I was incredibly disappointed with the nail program at Blanche. Highly over priced for the kit and products received. Definitely didn't learn current techniques and we didn't cover a quarter of the notes received for the artificial module. I've heard all other programs at Blanche are amazing but they definitely missed the mark for nails. I didn't feel heard by staff with regards to my concerns until things went to the highest level. Don't forget that WE are your customers, Blanche.

I met Caroline Crochet, the owner of La Cachette Spa and a former instructor of Blanche Macdonald. It was then I got to experience my first facial with her and it was absolutely life-changing. With her extensive knowledge, Caroline has single-handedly inspired my new passion in life, SKIN! Knowing that Caroline went to Blanche Macdonald I knew I needed to go there and like that, I was enrolled at Blanche. Starting my first day of class, I met Angie Barnetson, an instructor at Blanche Macdonald. Angie made me fall in love with learning about the skin and doing nails. I now work for Caroline as her senior esthetician. Amazing school that will steer you in the right direction if you want to be in this industry!

I came to have a haircut in downtown campus last week. I have received one of the best treatments in the cut. Although the student, Kylar, was very new and very slow in the cut, he was very careful. The thing that I like him the most was his gentle and friendly attitude toward clients. I think that this is a very important quality when a barber performs on a personal service. I was willing and patience to give him all the time that I have that afternoon. When my time run out, he has to pass the cut to the instructor, Jenny, to complete the work. She was one of the very friendly teachers at Blanche MacDonald. Needless to say, that she did a beautiful cut while she showed the work to the student. I always confidence to the teachers and to most of the students at this school. I know the teachers will back up the cut before the students make irreversible mistakes. I don’t make a big deal of it if it turns out not to my satisfaction because I just wear a baseball cap for a week or so. I have never needed to. Hair will grow back. Thank you, Jenny and Kylar.

I loved attending Blanche Macdonald Centre! The teachers and staff were always so understanding and friendly. On my days off I would look forward to going back to school. The Global Program helped me understand where I wanted to further my career in makeup and introduced me to other areas of the feild in the makeup industry. I am truly blessed and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Blanche Macdonald Black Canadian Scholarship. I attended the Global Esthetics Program from September 2021 to September 2022 at the City Square campus. The hands-on training, theoretical knowledge as well as genuine kindness I received from my instructors was exceptional! As someone who values the holistic approach to healing the body, I particularly enjoyed learning Ayurvedic and Hot Stone massage methods, grounding techniques before starting a facial and learning more about holistic beauty products through the Cosmetic Kitchen Project. I will definitely incorporate them into treatments I offer clients. This program taught me to view the beauty and wellness industry from the lens of a service provider and that has made a major difference. I feel equipped and confident to launch my holistic esthetics business and bring my education plus experience to not only Canada but also my home country of Tanzania. 10 years ago I had a vision and set out for a new adventure at Blanche Macdonald, to study the Esthetics and Spa Therapy program. From the moment I walked into the school for my first day, the support and recognition from and for the school was outstanding. Not only did I make some life long friends, but I have made many connections in my professional career because of the staff and reputation of Blanche Macdonald.

Fast forward to today and I am a successful Spa Owner and Operator. Without the foundation, curriculum and support I have had from this school, I doubt I would be where I am, today. I cannot speak highly enough about this program and the staff behind the center. If you are considering mastering a craft in the industry, this is where you must start.

I attended the Aesthetics program and I am so happy I did. I got phenomenal training. The teachers have so much experience and knowledge. I can look back and say I have learnt so much and I am still in contact with Simona and the teachers and they try to help you in every way possible. Wanted to say thank you to the lovely teachers, it wasn’t easy to navigate through 2020-2021. I gained a new family.

When I go get services by therapists that didn’t go to school, I can spot right away all the mistakes and makes me appreciate what I have learnt. I would highly recommend the Aesthetics program!

If you go to this school be prepared to hear “this is not the right career for you” from Leah E over and over and over again. They should tell you that before they charged you 15k+ not after. Not cool Leah.and Students do not listen horrible comments for a non-happy person.

I took the Aesthetics program here at Blanche Macdonald and had a pleasant/good learning experience. There was however one instructor in particular who made it even more worth the while, ANGIE! Angie is not only highly educated and has the hands of an angel, but her teaching style was my favourite. I felt like I learned so much from her, from technique to theory we learned a lot in our class. I also felt very safe in her class. I remember one time I had a personal emergency and she noticed me very upset and she discretely and professionally let me leave the classroom. All in all I had a great experience with all of my instructors, just felt the need to shout out Angie. I am now a full fledged Aesthetician and am actually now working for one of the Blanche instructors, Caroline (who owns a spa) who is also equally amazing! Thank you Blanche for shaping me into the aesthetician I am today!

I moved to Vancouver to study at BMC in order to pursuit my passion and dream career, being a makeup artist!
At Blanche I not only learned and developed the skills to become a certified MUA, I also had the continuous push and inspiration of my instructors to keep me going when things got though.
I was taught to be innovative, creative, resilient and most of all resourceful when it came to making my visions come alive for my projects. After all, things don't always go the way we imagine they will.
Leah made me realize I had a stronger passion for fashion than I thought I did when I started my course. I was told to keep my mind open to anything. This not only ended up being great advice but it also helped me to continue having an open mind to new opportunities outside my comfort zone.
I was provided with great tips on how to survive a backstage environment and what are must-haves in your kit in order to be an organized, professional, and efficient MUA.

I attended the freelance makeup course. It was such a waste of money, and I wish I had attended JCI instead of Blanche. The kit was horrible- the foundations that we received, even our instructors, did not use them for the demos. The only thing after finishing at Blanche Sept 2021 I have kept are the brushes, and even those aren't amazing. The instructors I had used outdated looks that no one was even requesting anymore, which we were taught. I wanted to attend Blanche to learn the basics and proper hygiene with cleaning brushes and makeup etc. In the first module, our instructor was horrible as she was doing the demo on one of the students in my class; she could not get eyelashes on her properly. She laughed and said she was "having a bad lash day. " To be "teaching" us, she would need to know herself. I thought we would learn how to clean brushes and care for our brushes, but none of that was taught. I even had another classmate who showed up with dirty brushes ready to use those on us, and our instructor did not check those.or tell us about cleaning eyelash curlers. Another module that they seemed to throw in was a social media one where I thought it would teach us proper ways to photograph clients, but it was all about retail and then doing a presentation on a makeup brand. This was an absolute waste of money and time and seemed like a space filler. Despite some students complaining to Darcy and Tracey, we were not learning anything at all in our hair module. We were told, oh, it's only an introduction to hair. I understand that it is simply an introduction, but getting students to waste hours on just "twists" is a waste of time and money. This instructor had to be called over numerous times for help because she was too busy on her phone, but the school's mannequins were balding or had very short hair. Almost impossible to practice anything on. When she did her demos, she stood in front of the mannequin, so it was hard for the class to see what was being done. This was also brought to her attention, and it was simply shrugged off. A super friendly instructor was our bridal instructor but still a waste because her techniques were outdated, and no one requested those looks in the bridal industry. The fashion module was worse as this instructor never seemed pleased with anyone's work and did not explain how to correct something. At the end of every module, we had to pay for photoshoots, which was a waste of money. Despite paying the school so much money for the kit, it is garbage, and I'm not sure what they are charging for. There is also an airbrushing module which is another waste of time and money as it's merely an introduction. You waste time mixing colors and figuring out the machine, and then the module is over.

Overall it was an absolute waste of time and money to drive out to Vancouver to attend Blanche. I learned nothing at all; save your money and invest in maybe doing 1-1's with makeup artists in the industry.

I attended the Global Makeup Program last year and I cannot rave about my experience enough! I moved from out of province to attend the program and the transition was extremely smooth. I ended up finding an apartment on my own but the resources provided to me helped a lot in finding places in areas that were accessible and easy to commute to. I really enjoyed having different teachers for each module because you pick up great tips from everyone and find what works for you. I feel like I got really helpful personal feedback since the class sizes are small. I also love how the job resources are available to students forever after they graduate. I was connected to a few other graduates in my area to help find work after moving back when the program was done. The only thing I would recommend to someone who is also coming to Blanche from outside of BC is to over-budget for EVERYTHING. If I knew how much I'd be spending on extra items for school (exams, photoshoots, kit essentials, etc.), groceries, and other things like rent/internet, I would've saved much more. Special shoutout to Jill for making my transition to Blanche so easy!

I found my dream job through this school, thanks to the help of Jen, Simona and Heather! I took the professional Aesthetics program. It is a really good school to help you learn the basics of Aesthetics. Although I started when it was covid times so I wish that we got a little more experience but I now work in a medical spa gaining more experience each day and doing exactly what I've always dreamed of! So yes I recommend choosing this school!

I was debating if i should write the review or not for months now. I don't like to write bad reviews, but i don't want for people to pay money for the course they get very little out of. Anyway, If u want more detailed information, message me on Facebook but for now: not worth it. You don't get enough knowledge when you finish. There's no way you would be able to get a job after you are done with the course. I actually didn't do too bad at the course, but that is just not good enough. I liked the natural nail part of the program; the instructor was great. For the artificial part, it was COVID times, but there was just not enough attention and supervision for all of us. Research nail artist in your area before you commit to invest money in certain course. There are some amazing nail artists that offer courses that are cheaper and you will gain so much more with one on one experience or with being in a smaller class:)

Blanche MacDonald taught me the skills I needed to be confidant and successful in the job market. The thorough education has benefited me many times in my career. I can’t recommend this institution enough.

I attended Blanche Macdonald from 2020-2021, in their Esthetics program. I’m at a loss of words trying to describe how awful this school is. All they care about is taking your money and leaving you with a lack of education. Their Esthetics program is severely mismanaged and nobody knows what’s going on most of the time. The entire time I attended I did not once receive a schedule. Most days we wouldn’t find out what we were doing until the morning of and many times we had to change due to scheduling problems. The director is always out of the office and when making an attempt to contact her through her email you rarely get a response. Their training is outdated as well as a handful of their instructors. These instructors are not up to date in the industry and are still teaching as if it’s was the 80’s. Kits provided were lacking in quality and materials forcing students to go out and spend even more of their own money even though we paid for a full kit. They also mark up the kits 100% on top of what they paid for the materials and sell it back to students at double the price. Half of the services promised to learn were apparently removed from the program due to Covid (which I might add is one of their favourite excuses to use when it comes to complaints) We were threatened by our instructors on various occasions, and many students were forced to continue performing services while crying and quite visibly upset. When we would reach out to make a complaint we would be quickly silenced with threats such as “just remember who will be writing your references at the end of the day”. Students who had constant allergic reactions to products were also forced to continue despite being covered in hives, welts and even bruised and bleeding. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money here. Their website says #1 school is Canada which is the biggest load of BS I’ve ever seen. Their website is also very misleading in many aspects. Take your money elsewhere and actually get a proper education. For half the cost of this place

Great school for anyone wanting to go in Makeup. Esthetics. Hair or Fashion industries. Highly qualified educators.great experience and lifelong skills taught!

I wanted to write a review due to my very disappointing experience at Blanche Macdonald they do not measure up to their reputation. Throughout the course of my year there I received little support, they have little to no organization when it comes to their students and if you send an email or have any problems don’t expect a reply. Myself and my classmates were constantly frustrated with the system in place at the school, they do a great job at talking the talk but when it comes to walking the walk they fail.

There is no consistency in the way they handle their business and no proper protocols in place. On top of the little organization on the office side, I attended the aesthetician program and have numerous occasions of feeling unsafe and uneducated. For example when learning laser the teacher in class pulsed the laser light in front of the entire class (not everyone has goggles on) because she neglected to have the safety on the machine. She then pretended it never happened. When I raise my concern to the teacher and director I was told that “she has a sore knee”. Which of course has no relevance.

Overall I am very disappointed with my experience and if I could get a refund and take another course I 100% would take that option and I’m not alone.
Save your money!

Zero stars! Don't waist your time and money. I graduated in 2009 from the makeup diploma program.i was told it was $10,000 but it turned out to be closer to $16,000 with all the extra cost of shopping lists and photoshoots you have to have after every module. What's even worse, I have yet to receive a copy of my diploma. I called numerous times and was told the director of the school would call me back and never did. Then I left her a voicemail on her direct line and never once got a call back. I was ignored because i already graduated and am no longer a paying student. On top of that, The school director would only offer makeup jobs/gigs to the male students and favor them and never give the rest of the students attention or an opportunity to shine.

If you are interested in the esthetics program, I suggest you go anywhere else! I wish I had as the entire program is very unorganized and they do not give you any sort of schedule while constantly saying you need to be flexible due to “covid”. They change things and class times with less than 48 hours notice, never give you a heads up when you will be preforming waxing and also don’t plan the day throughly at all. So many things are inconsistent and if you bring up any issues you will be bullied into staying quiet.

I enrolled into Profesional Esthetics/ Spa Therapist Program in March 2020, just before the pandemic. I was a little bit concerned at the beginning as I wasn't sure what to expect during this difficult times, however the way BMC handled the situation, far exceed my expectations. We were quickly switched into online courses for about a month during the lockdown, and then slowly went back to campus for practice. There are very strict Covid protocols and procedures in place and I always felt very safe. The teachers, instructors and staff are absolutely amazing. They are very passionate, and will go beyond and above to help you succeed. Each teacher/ instructor has a special place in my heart (Cristina, Simona, Azita, Gurloz, Jen, Benny). Thank you ALL for great year.

Although I have yet to attend a class here, I can say they're very helpful. With pre enrollment, and answers to any questions. I was surprised to see how quick they communicated regardless of me 2 province's away. Seriously worth it and considering moving so I can attend the best in all of Canada!

I am a current student at Blanche Macdonald in the esthetics program. I started in October and I already love it! We did the makeup course with Jen and it was amazing, She’s an amazing teacher! She made our class fun, but made sure we learned everything correctly. We learn so much here and its such a great opportunity for anyone. We just started the skincare course and I’m so excited! Theres going to be so much to come and I cannot wait. I do remember being hesitant at first to attend school because of covid, but its so safe here at Blanche. All protocols are followed and makes me feel safe to be at here. If I was able to give 10stars i would:)

I am beyond grateful for the knowledge, experience and connections I have gained from attending Blanche.
It has been 5 years since I have graduated from the program, I still keep in close connection with the school, and they are so enthusiastic about helping me in my career.
The knowledge alone is worth it, but the connections you make and maintain during and after the program have been life changing. This industry can be a bit intimidating, and sometimes you feel like a little fish in a big pond.
Knowing that I have the connections with the school, and can reach out anytime I want (and vice versa) is empowering. Every time there is an opportunity around makeup that I specialize in or want to grow in, Heather and the team at the school send me the job info and give me the opportunity to grow.

The best decision I ever made was to attend Blanche Macdonald, I was a bit hesitant at first going to school as an adult. I took Esthetics course. My teachers were amazing. Simona was always so friendly and very helpful. I now work with an amazing skincare clinic, I been with this clinic for 8 years and am Senior Esthetican. I would recommend Blanche Macdonald. Absolutely loved taking the global makeup program at Blanche in 2018. All of my teachers were amazing and really gave hands on training and advice relevant to the current industry because most of the teachers here still work in the industry!

Learned so much in my year there but really have to thank Jordy for all my knowledge in the cosmetic retail and resume class where we got taught proper industry etiquette which still helps me today, LucyAnne for the amazing fashion classes she teaches that really helped me perfect my skills, learn new and effective techniques and learn to look really closely at my work to make sure it’s at its best. Leanne who was my special f/x teacher was so knowledgeable and incredibly talented, really learned so much from her as I had no knowledge in special f/x and now feel very confident in my skills.

Along with amazing classes Blanche offers the best support with a housing department that helped me find a roommate and a place to live when I first moved to Vancouver. Also Heather and Jen from the amazing career department that constantly provide me with volunteer and career opportunities both when I was in school and continuously to this day, even helping me land a job at MAC Pro right after graduation.

Many makeup schools in the city but Blanche is the best choice, you won’t regret making the choice to take your classes here!

I’m a current Blanche Macdonald student taking the International Makeup Studio program. Since 5 years ago it was a dream for me to come to this School. Now a days that I’m here all I can say is that every second of waiting was worth it. Blanche Macdonald has become a second home for me. All teachers and advisors are amazing, talented and always open to help me. I’m learning so much since the first day. All Blanche Macdonald family keeps me motivated and brings it out the best of me. Don’t prepaid your parking tickets. If they over charge you, the company Precise Parkin is very awful with handing refunds. You have to MAIL them to get a MAYBE refund.

I graduated from the Global Makeup program at Blanche MacDonald in 2017 and had an amazing experience! The teachers are so helpful and go above and beyond to help you. It’s very special to be educated by people who are in the industry themselves. The school is constantly keeping their education up to date with industry standards. I felt very prepared when I left to go out and work! I would say the most valuable part of my Blanche experience was the networking opportunities. I graduated from the Global Makeup Artistry Program in 2018. It was a wonderful experience and one of the best years of my life. The teachers were thorough, supportive, and well experienced at their craft. I had informed the school when I was accepted that I had not yet done my English 12 final exam but I had a set date to do it so they allowed me to start the class. After paying for the school and for the rather expensive makeup kit I was asked to change into a class starting later in the year because they ‘didn’t know I didn’t have my English 12, ’ even though I have email proof of me making sure it was okay more than once. I wasn’t able to attend the later in the year class due to how expensive Vancouver is and the school refused to fully refund me. I ended up wasting a whole lot of money that I could’ve used for something that actually benefited me.

Edit: I was just called by a lady (I’m not going to name names) at Blanche Macdonald and she told me that if I don’t remove this post then Blanche Macdonald will have to publically call me a liar. I have never felt so belittled, the ill treated I received was unacceptable for any professional place. I am 18 years old and should not be getting threatening phone calls from a school just because I shared my personal experience and opinion.

Awesome makeup school. I took the Global Makeup program and absoluty loved it. It was a great experience. They have the best instructors and the most friendly staff. If you are interested in anything about the beauty industry just go and contact them. Highly recommended!

If I had to choose only one positive thing (out of many) about this school it would 100% be the career department. I have gotten so many amazing jobs where I am able to use all my new skills that I have learnt in class! Everyone that joins the program can use the career department to help them gain experience! They are so welcoming.

Great base of knowledge, dedicated and instructive educators, great management and disciplined planning. All combined with an open door policy of directors and instructors who are always there to help students find right networks and advice for their future jobs. People of Blanche Macdonald Center are of the most helpful, honest and trustworthy ones I have seen.

I graduated from the Freelance Makeup program at the City Square Campus! Loved every minute of it! Such knowledgeable teachers and staff, and a very positive atmosphere all around. Would definitely recommend.
