The Boundary Bay Dyke Trail from Beach Grove to Mud Bay Park in Surrey is a scenic ride, but don’t expect to find a public washroom or running water anywhere along the 34km round trip ride. About 4km in from Beach Grove there is a single porta potty at the foot of 72nd Street. After that there’s one more near the pump station west of 112 Street, then nothing until you get to a pit toilet in Surrey at Mud Bay Park, a total distance of nearly 13km.

You read that right: two porta potties and no running water on the entire stretch of the Delta portion of the trail.

Over the several years I’ve ridden the trail, “maintenance crews” who cut back invasive blackberry bushes along the route tend to leave a lot of thorny debris on the trail surface, resulting in more flat tires than I’ve experienced in any other area, so, it’s a good idea to get puncture resistant tires.

I ride 2-3k a year on trails and bike routes throughout Delta, Richmond, Surrey, Langley and Vancouver. Delta is by far the worst in terms of trail maintenance and public facilities, and Richmond is amazing. One of my favourite rides in Richmond, has 8 public washrooms with running water along a 60km route.

Great place to go if you're paralyzed by sadness and you can't really talk to people but you can manage to say "Beautiful morning, eh? " to a couple people. I heard there was a short eared owl around somewhere too. Even saw a dog playing fetch and he was doing a great job. Lovely

One of the few good spots for astrophotography near Vancouver. Not ideal, but less light pollution than in the city for sure.

Its a cool place to bike near sea. There is a parking limit for 8-10 cars. Bring out your bicycle and enjoy the beautiful ride.

This is such a beautiful place - wide open space. Beautiful ocean, Huge Marsh/wildlife area and a dyke to bike or walk along for literally miles! You can access the ocean when tide is out and walk forever. Lots of birds and beautiful scenery! Greats place to walk or bike with the family. There are a few parking areas available.

Natural place. Good walking trail. It is not close to the water so don't expect to be able to swim.
