The trout was delightful and I would recommend the truffle oil frites which were also delicious! The restaurant had a lovely ambience and the staff were friendly and prompt.

Amazing burger! Wish their menu had a bit more selection. Service was friendly but fairly standoffish and not very personal. We were also disappointed as we checked the website for the menu only to find out the menu posted was for the previous evening and the item we wanted was not available.

We had a sumptuous meal here. Very personal service, very rich food… everything you might hope for in a little bistro like this. We loved it. PS skip lunch and arrive hungry.

A hidden gem with a rotating menu. Some of the best steak I've had in town, hands down. Also, some may view it as an after-thought, but even their French fries were terrific!

We ate here the other day, having heard about it for years. The setting is lovely, very pleasing to the eye and lively without being too noisy. Very safe from Covid point of view. The waitress was very helpful and accommodating. The food is classical french cuisine but beautifully done. I had the steak, remarkably good, and the fries outstanding. My friend had the cod, also superb. The vol-au-vent was very tasty. Desserts were excellent, creme brule and a chocolate mousse. The wine and beer list was extensive and reasonably priced. Overall excellent value though not cheap. I would happily go again. One note is the booking, there are no reservations - so get there for 530 or around 730. Unvaccinated guests are not permitted.

They do take reservations, but you have to go, get in line to reserve. I am calling them out for calling it first come first serve, when it's not! One star is only for wrong information about reservations, I have not tried their food yet.

Some staffing changes, but all the same things you know and love about this amazing Brasserie - small but hand selected and great value wine list (tell Marc what you like and he'll make great recommendations), high quality French cuisine prepared and presented very nicely and friendly, professional staff who understand timing and cadence.

Sirloin was a very tough piece of meat cooked rare, not medium well as requested. Waiter never asked if I was satisfied with the meal, until after our group was finished. Server showed up with my drink after the meal. (Oh, I forgot to add that I left half of the steak uneaten.). That should be a signal to the staff that all is not well.

All in all, I thought the staff was pleasant and I'm sure most of the folks had a great experience. To quote a famous american saying: "other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play".

I went here on a Wednesday night in August. Arrived just before 5 and waited until open. I shared the fries and had the pork belly. Everything was wonderful. The food was delicious, the servers were lovely, the space didn't feel crowded. I think it's worth it, highly recommend.

This very special French Restaurant operates on a first arrive, first basis so we arrived 30 minutes early and there were several enthusiastic customers already lined up…the discussion among those waiting was enthusiastic about what each individual was interested in ordering.the staff made regular visits along those waiting to answer any questions and to determine how many in each group.when seated, the service was excellent and all questions were answered.the cuisine was exceptional and we appreciated each portion of our order.the dessert was very delicious…we will be back soon for another adventure in this French Atmosphere.

A $27.00 dollar hamburger? What is the mark up? 150%, 200%? You should be ashamed of yourself. Time to start calling places out. This has to stop.what is going on? Oh wait, its French, super special.

I was very impressed with this place across the board. The food is classical French done to perfection - generous portions, I suggest sharing a salad, appetizer then having your own main. Wine was superb and the service exceeded any possible expectations- she even called us a cab and helped get cash for our babysitter.

I went with my Family to this restaurant, we were glad that it was a good day because the wait outside in a line to get a table could be quite painful if the weather was terrible.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was very calming and quite. As well the waiting staff was fantastic.

Our dishes were quite tasty, quite enjoyed the Duck Croquette. The steak was also good but would have liked some vegetables with it.

Very nice place. Will have to return to try more food. Staff are awesome. The only drawback is that it's so popular there's always a wait. However, the service they offer to take your name on the door (there are no reservations) and contacting you when a table is free helps to offset that.

One of the busiest restaurants in Victoria, expect a 30+ mins wait. The steak tastes quite good, so are the appetizers. Warm service as well.

This restaurant's policy of not taking reservations is absurd. We arrived 30 minutes early last Friday and stood in line only to be told it was full and we could try coming back in 2 1/4 hours.
I guess it works well for them stuffing people into the restaurant, but certainly isn't great for customers. I've been coming here for years, but may not return.

AMAZING food, service, and atmosphere, one of our favourite restaurants in town. Get there before they open as they are very popular and it fills very quickly.

As for the entitled complaints from people who couldn't get in, did you expect them to kick out the people who got there before you? Maybe knock out a wall or two and expand the restaurant while you wait?

I never understood the hype of waiting outside to get into Brasserie L’Ecole, but finally tried it and can say that it’s pretty good. Prices are fair, food is tasty, staff is knowledgeable. Still not entirely into the no reservation thing, but I guess it’s their thing. Highlight was the chocolate bourbon mousse - I’m more of a savoury person but the mousse was tres bien. I should have gotten a steak as it seems it’s what they are known for (tried one of my party’s and it was quite good).

This is the place for fine dining in Victoria. Classic french bistro food and service, superior wine list, well trained waiters. Other than they don't take reservations I find no fault here.

Wow! The best Hamburger in town, The taste is delicious and comes so quickly. I enjoyed eating here with a good atmosphere and with good service.

Sooo happy they finally re-opened. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it really was a memorable meal.

We came here after we got married, we came here after we bought our house, and we come here when we just want a burger and a Duchesse de Bourgogne. Some restaurants just feel like home.

The service is good, so is the atmosphere but I didn't enjoy my steak, it was terrible. They charge for sides even though their mains are expensive, I found this ridiculous. I would have given them a lower rating but their dessert was quite good.

The place is quite busy and you may have to wait.

I have been visiting this restaurant for 13 years and it never disappoints. It is so rare to have a restaurant where you can put complete faith in them to produce a consistent, outstanding, delicious meal every.single.time! The smell of the truffle frites, the cozy dim lighting, the charming bistro music (it’s cliche and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t changed in years but I don’t care. I love it). Please never change!

A truly authentic French restaurant- the atmosphere, the music, the staff were all great. The food was so delicious and the drinks selection was great. We got there right at opening time and we’re glad we did. Cannot recommend this place enough. Highly recommended.

What a disappointment. You guys have ruined my anniversary. No reservations, no empty tables within the nearest hour. I understand you have some traditions or principles, but now it seems arrogant when you make people waiting under the door for hours. I have principles too - and will never come again.

I dont get why this place has good reviews. The food is very mediocre and over priced. I got the sirloin steak and my wife got the trout. My steak was cooked medium rare the way I asked but it was like leather to cut it and really chewy. The trout had a very fishy taste which usually happens when the fish isn't fresh. The fish side was very bland and tastless. A few positives, the staff were friendly and attentive and the cocktails were very good. Unfortunately, we wont be back because of the food which was a shame as i was really looking forward to eating here for a long time.

As always, but especially last night, the food was truly spectacular. Thanks to the meticulous high-bar from the kitchen!

My first time visit today and will definitely be back. Just heard this establishment from a co-worker whom rated it 9/10 and I can personally agree 100%. Its a 4 star experience since I got some suggestion with maybe I think can help their establishment to be more creative. However, people love their menu. Foods are healthy and nice as the price is reasonable.

Absolutely delicious food! The atmosphere is so lovely. Just what I imagine a bistro in Paris to be like. We will be coming back for sure!

The restaurant is like a pub pretending to be a classy restaurant; noisy, crowded, rushed service, we could see the kitchen from our table. Tables do not have table cloths (the minimum you would expect when paying $53.00 for a rib eye). I had a glass of French white wine and wanted to try a different one, the server was about to pour the wine into my used glass, I had to ask her for a clean glass, she seemed to be surprised. The bar seats do not have a proper foot rest. We had a sausage dish with red cabbage, good, for a pub. Bread was served cold. That is the problem with some restaurants that claim to have a European flair, owners may not even had the chance to visit Europe. A 6.5 out of 10.

Delicious! We got their burger, their cod dish, French onion soup, and cream brûlée. The cod dish was fresh, crisp, and bright. The burger was perfectly cooked and so flavorful! The French onion soup was very cheesy and good. The cream brûlée had a perfect sugar crust. Our waitress was very nice and the restaurant was well decorated.

I hesitate to say how great it is in fear of not getting a table next time we want to eat there, but I have to be honest: it's great.

Gorgeous local ingredients prepared perfectly. Hearty, comforting dishes served with straightforward style and creativity. Paleron of beef was fork tender, potato puree silky, delicata squash tender. Vauclavan sausage and apples were perfect pairing. Crispy pork belly was luscious. Citrusy, floral local Sheringham gin cocktails and bold red wines all exquisite recommendations from our server to complement our dishes. Service was knowledgeable, informative, welcoming, cheerful and accommodating to all our needs including food allergies. Many gluten free options available. Would be 5 stars, but the escargot was bland and overcooked - everything else was perfect. I will visit every time I find myself in Victoria.

Still my favourite restaurant in Victoria! We've been several times and the food is always outstanding.

Felt the need to leave an honest review about the experience we had here two weekends ago. We were seated around 930pm after a brief wait, the host was polite and courteous to us. We had just come for the burgers so we did not order any appys or drinks. The food came out quickly and was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. However, my water was left empty for a while, and I had to ask the server if she could please top it up, which was not a big deal. We finished our meals and unfortunately the empty plates were left on our table for what seemed like quite a while, with no check in or service, while other tables around us received multiple visits. It was hard to get her attention or see where she was, so I eventually asked a different server if we could please get the cheque as we wanted to leave. The situation and interaction was quite awkward after doing so, and it made myself and my girlfriend feel a bit uncomfortable. I have been here a few times before and never had any bad experiences in the past. Other than the final service the meal was delicious and it would be worth giving another try in the future.

Had lam neck appetizer, it was so interesting with strong lamb flavour which is awesome for a lamb lover! The pork belly was surprisingly good too! So crispy outside, so soft and tender inside. With a special curry flavour sauce! The taste was so complex, exploded in my mouth!
We had the lettuce salad, the bacon in it was really good too. For the main course, we had the duck and the burger. They were a little bit salty but taste is good over all! For dessert we had the chocolate torte, it was amazing! Dark chocolate flavour, perfect sweetness for me.

We went here for date night last night and we were totally blown away! Delicious food, great drinks and superb service by Micki and the front end staff. We will definitely be returning!

Excellent place to go for great food, a lively atmosphere, and a reasonably priced meal. They don't take reservations and we had a show to go to afterwards, so we decided to sit at the counter (we were offered a table during our meal but were comfortable so we stayed there). We had a couple of appetizers: cheese filled dates & a crispy croquette, french onion soup, and tuna with greens. Everything was delicious and original

Best restaurant in town, they don’t take reservations so plan ahead. They will take your number though and you can go grab a drink elsewhere while you want.
Not recommended for big groups, just due to their size and getting in isn’t easy. But fantastic for a quiet date nights, casual evening with friends or even business meeting.
