Easy little loop walk. If you take your time it's about 30-40 minutes. You can possibly see some wildlife and it is a good spot for birdwatching. Paths are easy to follow and level so it is very accessible for all. There are a few benches and look out points along the path. Parking off the Bowen side can get full so you may have to park up the street when entering from that side. There is a port -a-potty on the Third Street side.

My favourite place to go birding in the area for sure!
So far I have seen 78 species of birds, 18 species of insects, 7 species of mammals, 4 species of reptiles and 2 species of amphibians.

Beautiful park for observing wildlife, particularly for birdwatching. We have also seen deer, raccoons, squirrels, and beaver.
The trail around the marsh is flat so really good for those with mobility issues. It is very family friendly, but do stay on the trail.
Bring your camera or binoculars, or relax with a book on one of the many benches. It's a real gem in the middle of the city.

A beautiful sanctuary inside city limits. If you're lucky, the local beaver family will be out and about.

The Marsh is a great place to go for a walk or run. Birds, turtles, raccoons, cats from the local neighbourhood, and a wonderful mix of trees makes it an interesting and beautiful place to be.

Natural marsh. Birds, beavers, turtles and herons get on with their lives ignoring the local bipedal mammals.

So beautiful to walk around. Great for strollers, easy walk for kids. 4 lookout platforms to see wildlife from. The sound of all the birds was so relaxing. Two huge turtle nests.

Such a lovely walk. You never know what you might see! Don't forget your bird seed! Remember bread expands in birds stomach. Try to avoid feeding it to them or limit how much you give:)

We love to walk here all year round. It's an easy walk immersed in nature and a lovely alternative to forest.

Buttertubs is a great place to go for a quick walk & I say a quick walk because it's really not that long of trail around the marsh. It is very nice though the City takes very good care of the path. I definitely recommend going to check it out.

Good walking. Well used. Many shady stretches for a hot day. As visitors to Vancouver Island we saw some new birds. Anna's Hummingbirds, chestnut backed chickadee, spotted towhee among them.

This is a beautiful spot right in the centre of Nanaimo. The marshland ecosystem is really one of a kind. There is always so much unique flora and fauna to see. It's right off the parkway (turn off at the first Jingle Pot Rd.exit if you are headed north) and makes a perfect stop if you're headed up island. The short 2km gravel trail is very flat, and can be enjoyed by young children and those with mobility challenges. Be sure to visit the viewing platforms for a superb view of the park!

Nice fully accessible leisurely walk. Lots of wildlife and a neat viewing platform half way around the trail. Expect lots of mosquitoes and some traffic noise on the side closest to the highway.
14 July 2019 11:08
Viewing and hearing the many varieties of birds, turtles basking on their log in the sun, brightly colored flowers scattered everywhere, even watching the birdwatchers with their multi lenses and cameras that look like you would need a donkey to help carry it! Such versity

Hila Klein and Mark Zuckerburger are cooking pasta when the Zuckercorn accidentally dropped the pasta on his cheese wife, Nicholas Cage who secretly was the God of Islands (and castles). Nick was a proud boy of the of -27 he lived in a toy named Donkey Kong. Mark Zuckerborger runs out of the room.

So many critters, lots of birds and snakes and squirrels! Small blue herons like to visit every now and then to grab a fish!
10 January 2019 14:33
Very nice park, good hour-long stroll at a leisurely pace, plenty of wildlife to see, and lots of moss despite it being mid-December. 9/10, would go again.

An excellent place to walk around in nature and an ideal area to practice local bird identification:) Gets pretty soggy in the wet seasons!

Great walk if your pressed for time, just over 2 km. We always see something interesting. This trip we saw a squirrel eating mushrooms.
