Casa di Amici Restaurant

Intending to enjoy Italian food early on a Thursday evening, I visited the website of Casa di Amici and tried to make a reservation. The webpage offered a way to make a reservation. However, that turned out to be useless. We visited the location and found it closed. No notice on the website; no notice on the front door. However, OpenTable reservation system shows Casa di Amici is PERMANENTLY CLOSED.

They have good food but are understaffed so it took a long time to get our food. Also the gorgonzola pasta was quite salty.

The new ownership need to decide if they want an Italian or an Indian restaurant. My Italian pasta tasted like Indian food. I love Indian food but I do not want my pasta to be that spicy. Also, the place needs a good cleaning. Wine was warm and not stored properly.

Surprisingly good. Weird vibe with the Italian Indian blend but the carbonara was great. Hidden gem.

I have to admit, I was skeptical. An Italian restaurant slash Indian bistro?
The atmosphere did not help the first impression, but I have to say that the chicken vindaloo and the butter naan were really great! (As an Italian, I tend not to eat Italian abroad, unless it's pizza with great reviews)

We didn't even manage to try the food! Right when we walked into the restaurant it did not smell very appealing. It had some sort of bad odor. And my first glance of the place, I noticed it was in horrible shape and needs a major deep clean! And renovation! We then sat down at out table, the chairs looked ancient as if when you sit down dust is going to fly up. The waitress brought us menus, which I did not even want to touch with my hands, I used my nails to flip the pages. I then left to use the washroom, and that was it for me, you could hardly see your self in the mirror, some sort of flies around the toilet, the washroom was filthyyy as ever! And not to mention when walking to the washroom beside the kitchen u pass a small room with a messy bed and blankets, which all through me off. Customers not only pay for the food (which I'm glad I didn't bother trying from everything I saw within the first 10 minutes) but they also pay for the experience, the service, and the ambience when having a dinning experience. Also it was my birthday! Therefore after using the washroom, I had just let the waitress know we had a change of plans and headed out!

Great food and a nice service. We were there with a group of four and enjoyed the Indian food. Everything was really good and it is lovely that you can choose the side dish instead of just getting rice. The price is also fine (4 people around 100$ including several drinks)

One of those time you rely on the good comments and just go for it.
First of all, I had to take my little one to the washroom, you couldn’t even see yourself in the mirror, that’s how filthy it was, with no toilet paper very unpleasant! After that the food experience, not only it arrived late, the pasta was undercooked with the Alfredo sauce feeling nothing like made from scratch. It had a strong weird smell to it like it was just poured out of a can. I could not eat it at all and when I made the comment to the server, she took my plate to the owner/supervisor to get instructions! The owner comes back with the plate touching it with a spoon trying to convince me that it’s cooked and that it’s perfect, and goes if you still feel it’s not cooked I can cook it and bring it back! The other order also was not that great but my husband barley had 1/4 of it to be nice. At the end of the scenario, they handed us a bill with half the price of the food we didn’t touch and told us that they are disappointed. What the heck! Who gets to be disappointed, we were your customers! Would not recommend this place to anybody!

Italian and Indian was not an obvious juxtaposition to me, but the restaurant was, in fact excellent! I ordered from the Italian side of the menu and the food was lovely, with rich flavour and excellently prepared.

I used to love this place, but now it appears to be under new management and the food is absolutely terrible. We ordered the Italian dishes. We paid $17 for a buffalo bocconcini salad that wasn't seasoned and was literally 1 tomato quartered and 5 mini bocconcinis with a sad little pile of spinach leaves in the middle of the plate. The calamari was least terrible thing we had, but it was underseasoned, overbattered, overcooked and bland. The spaghetti carbonara was made with regular bacon and not pancetta and tasted off, and the sauce had separated. It was underseasoned and horribly bland. The worst was the veal scallopini which was dried out, tough and slathered "marsala sauce" in name only. Everything was bland and lacked flavor. I didn't want to complain to the poor server because she was all by herself and dealing with her cranky toddler who was running around the restaurant. I felt really bad for her and didn't want to add to her problems. I definitely won't be back though. This was a very expensive mistake on my part and I regret making the trip all the way to West Van only to be disappointed.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the Indian / Italian fusion. My husband had tandoori chicken and I had the Marco Polo pasta. Both were excellent. I think if they would update their decor this place would do so much better! I will definitely return or order out.

We were looking forward to a nice dinner and had high expectations because of the high rating. We noticed there was a large gathering happening, but nevertheless we were seated. We ended up waiting 10 minutes at the table just to get our vaccine cards checked and didn't even receive menus or water. After finally ordering, we waited 30-45 minutes and at that point only half the people at our table had even received the drinks they ordered. For some reason the servers were not aware that wine should be served in a glass, so we had no glasses. When we brought attention to our missing drinks, the server came back with one other drink (one person was still missing their drink). If the service was the only issue, we would have stayed. The bigger problem was that the restaurant staff seemed to be having a personal gathering which the staff were more invested in. My advice to the restaurant: close your business on days that you are using your location for a personal party.

We ended up leaving hungry and upset. But not without being confronted by members of the personal gathering who albeit were very apologetic, were also holding wine glasses and extremely unprofessional. Luckily a nearby restaurant made our night better. I would not recommend this place.

Horrible food and service!
This place used to be my favorite restaurant, Been going to this restaurant for 14 years. I'm not sure if the owner / management has been changed but nothing's the same. The food quality has changed and is terrible. It's a shame. The server had no idea what she was doing and wasn't attentive at all. I usually don't care about the service as much as i care about the food, but both food and service wasn't good at all. Never again!

If I could give a no-star, I would. The service was disappointing and the food was even worse. It took over 40mins for our food to arrive even though there were little too no guests in the restaurant. We ordered Chicken Tikka and Dal Tarka to replace our pastas which was salty/undercooked. Instead we got Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone ever.

Amazing food and service. Our server Arsh was so lovely and attentive, we really enjoyed her service from beginning to end. She gave us great recommendations and was amazing overall.
We’ll definitely come back soon.

Excellent food, great service, and a friendly atmosphere. We had the channa masala, the butter chicken, and the jalfrazi - all delicious. Reasonably priced too! Couldn't ask for a better dinner.

HIGHLY recommend! All the food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Service was excellent - not one complaint from our table. It is a family run business and they clearly take pride in their business and have extremely high standards when it comes to their menu, service and the whole place was impeccably clean. We will most definitely be back!

We ordered takeout meals for four people- salmon, rack of lamb and filet mignon. While the first three meals were “okay” the filet mignon was not the steak expected but rather chunks of the toughest meat around- much like stewing beef which just hasn’t been stewed long enough to lose the toughness. A very expensive mistake. If we ever do this again we will stick to something safe like pasta.

Amazing experience. Definitely recommend this amazing food. Elegant dining and amazing lamb vindaloo. I will be back!

This is an unpretentious Italian restaurant with slightly above average prices but very good food. Don't expect a somelier or fancy table service. This is a family run business with very good food made with fresh tasty ingredients. We were lucky to go on a Sunday night and have their prime rib which is a deal at $27 for a 3 course meal. It is slow cooked then grilled, so it's juicy and very tender. My daughter who isn't normally a steak eater liked it so much she cut 3 servings. The mushroom ravioli was great with a wonderful sauce and fully stuffed ravioli. The pear and gorgonzola salad was very fresh with the mildly sweet pear contrasting the strong gorgonzola flavor. The cioppino was very good full of crab claws, two kinds of mussels and two kinds of fish. Seafood was very fresh without a strong fishy smell. Their Caesar salad is also great. Leave room for zabaglione which takes a long time to cook to evaporate the alcohol in the wine. Their Gelato is quite good and pretty.update: I'm saddened to learn there's a new owner and new chef who I understand doesn't know how to cook Italian food. I think it's going to become an Indian restaurant. I love Indian food, but I go to an Indian restaurant and not an Italian restaurant for it.

Had such a great dinner here - highly recommend the fettuccini marco polo! Arsha (sp?) was our server and she was wonderful! Will be back!

Very friendly n accommodating staff. Good food.

I thought it was quite tasty, their sunday special was decent for the price, but a bit strange. The yorkshire pudding was a bit chewy (I think trying to make yorkshire puddings for so many guests is asking for trouble). It seems dated inside, but staff were very friendly and my pasta dish was delicious.

Amici is one our North shore favorites. The food and service always exceeds expectations. Fresh and delicious home made Italian food at it's best. Recommend the Caesar salad with shrimp.

Nice restaurant. Good service. Very good food. I was expecting the restaurant to be a bit upscale, but the decor was just average. It is still worth to go and have a nice dinner.
