I have always enjoyed my experiences at this restaurant, the food and the service is top notch, I love the atmosphere and the location. Compliments to the Chefs
Best place for mussels! Plump and juicy in an exceptionally fresh and tasty broth of your choice. Decent portions. Good service in a cozy but spacious setting.
We had not planned on coming to this restaurant but since the one we wanted to eat breakfast at was busy, we thought we would try Chambar. How serendipitous! The food was aaamazing and the service so easy going yet attentive. Can’t wait to return when we are next in Vancouver. Highly recommended.
It took me three tries to get a menu each for my wife and myself. They first handed me a little card with a QR code. No way. I’m not squinting at my little screen and then trading off with my wife (who didn’t have her phone on her). It was my fault because I didn’t notice at first, but still seems like they should offer a real menu. Those QR menus are beneath me, and I’m going to routinely ask for a real one from now on.
So I got up and asked for a menu. I got a friendly reply but no menu. Got up again and walked all the way across the restaurant to ask someone else. They brought us a menu, but it was ONE menu for the two of us. So I finally got up a third time and was able to secure a second menu for the two of us.
The food was extremely toothsome. No question about that; the chef knows his business, and the flavors are unexpected and original. No complaints there. But there was so little of it! After a beer, an appetizer, and a “large entree” (which I estimate was about 320 calories tops), i was still desperately hungry. I had spent $50 on my end of the meal and decided to cut my losses. Paid the check and went and bought a slice of pizza down the street. My tiny wife also had to get more food.
An unforgettable dining experience! Chambar Restaurant impressed me with its delectable cuisine and charming ambiance. The menu offers a delightful mix of traditional and innovative dishes, and their attention to using locally-sourced ingredients is commendable. The staff's passion for food and top-notch service made the evening even more enjoyable. If you're a food enthusiast looking for a standout gem, Chambar is the place to be!
Exceeded all of our expectations. I don't know where to start.the staff are suberb, incredibly friendly, professional and knowledgeable not just about the food but the cocktails and wine and beer (huge Belgian selection) pairings.the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming.sitting on the patio made us forget that the city was just a few steps away.felt like a mini vacation.and to top it all off the food is unsurpassed both in presentation and taste.you must have the mussels with frites paired with a Belgian beer.we brought our Toronto friends and they described it as one of the best meals they have ever had in Vancouver.wonderful job Karri and Nico
Amazing restaurant, fantastic service! We sat at the bar and the bartenders were super friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. They were very accommodating for my dairy allergy, I was even able to have a dessert, which is rare for me! It was a great experience and I hope to go back!
Absolutely fantastic! Brunch was good but the coffee was some of the best we had while in Vancouver! Perfect micro-foam for lavender lattes and cappacinos. Coffee was so tasty! I love when baristas know what they’re doing. Perfect texture, temp, and balanced espresso. Nice to find a place offering good coffee like what we have in Australia.
We enjoyed a stunning dinner here last night. My celiac hubby was delighted to find so many gluten-free options on the menu. We started with the mussels with cream sauce and bacon. While not an inexpensive appie, the portions were generous and the gf French fries went with it beautifully. For our main, we both went for the short ribs served on a celeriac purée with pickled beets and other goodies. A gorgeous presentation and the pickling really balanced the richness of the fall-apart beef. Excellent service and a good wine list. Best of all, zero tummy issues the next day which is always our “canary in a coal mine for hidden gluten”. We will be back!
A gorgeous place for dinner and a date. Our server (forgot her name) was a lovely Korean Canadian lady. She was new but pretty good and friendly. I loved the charcuterie and Autumn salad for starters. Mussels are to die for especially the soup. I recommend trying lamb shank for mains if you like spices and curries. It's 6 hours braised shank that won't let you down. It was a perfect night with lovely people from the chamber restaurant.
I’ve been here twice previously for brunch and lunch but it was many years ago. Having tried dinner, I was immediately blown away from the service, beer selection, and delicacy of the dishes. Not to mention my table mates were all astounded by the portion size of each of our meals! The service was excellent, I wasn’t able to math how much I appreciated our lovely server, Devon, but she was such a gem and always prompt to check in if we needed anything. We are already thinking of our next time back for the other dishes!
Appetizers are good. The Moules Frites Mussels, white wine with a lot of fennel, was the best and so was the sour dough, for our dinner. Services were very good, except a bit too long waiting for the entrees. Clean, and nice ambience with high ceilings for good ventilation for CoVid safety, is reassuring. We ordered artic char, lamb shank andbeef short ribs, and a charcuterie board, mussles crab bisque. .
Not sure how Belgium it is.
Also, the the menu selection is limited for its size.
This is very taster food and really must visit at least once in your life. I never expect innovation in boiled eggs along with small bites of variety of tasty dipping and bread bites. My wife -for first time ever- had the egg and beef breakfast, it was not heavy at all and the taste is right for morning. Kids had smoked meal which lots taste in it
Now, I am coffee taster and I had ONE OF THE BEST latte, lavender syrup house made. I saw lots of people ordering it and so I did. It was a bit sugary, but never tasted something like it. Went again just for the latter ;)
Delicious brunch! Had a seasonal omelette which was the perfect texture and how these deliciously cooked mushrooms. Also tried a waffle with chocolate lavender sauce. I wish I'd ordered a couple waffles to go as well.
Seating is a little tight for COVID and no barriers between tables. May not be everyone's comfort level. Checked everyone's vaccine status. Thank you!
We have had many memorable experiences at Chambar through the years. Tonight was another one (partly because I broke and spilled my glass of red wine on the olive accompagnement, table, chair and floor, but mostly due to the excellent service and outstanding food and drinks). The staff were amazing to come to our rescue, promptly cleaning up everything and bringing us replacement wine and olives. We ordered a variety of items from their Fall menu, and everything was perfect. The restaurant also insisted on not charging me for the wine that I spilled! Highly recommended!
Came to Chambar for brunch. Ordered the Talisman Pale Ale, which is an Amber beer. They have a pretty good selection of drinks available. I like how the menu is digital and separated into categories. Makes it easier for those dining in only for food, or only for drinks.
We got the Paella and the La Saucisse. For the Paella, it was a different style of paella that I'm normally used to. The rice they use was a bit different from other Paella I've had. But overall it was good. The cornbread in the other dish was fantastic. I truly enjoyed it. The waffles was pretty standard from other places.
For the ambience of the restaurant, it's fairly upscale and has a fancy bar. Would be a good location for a drink and have a nice meal.
Shoutout to their staff Kaya. She was very friendly and accommodating since we needed to rush out to catch a flight.
Overall I will recommend for you to visit this restaurant for your brunch, dinner or drink destination.
Where do I start? ! The drinks were delicious! The food was mouth watering! The service was impeccable! The atmosphere was BIG VIBES! As we were having our dinner we were already looking at their brunch menu to plan our next visit here. You have to try the Crêpe Marocaine the flavours were mind blowing.
We came here for breakfast the day after our wedding and the staff/manager were amazing! They brought us complimentary sparkling wine and dessert. Plus the food is awesome!
Food and service were excellent. Nice atmosphere. Some brunch dishes have smaller portions than others, so beware! Otherwise, it was a lovely experience.
Awesome food and great service. We were originally going to a different place but, there was a 45min line to get in. Luckily Chambar was just walking distance.
Great brunch was had along with the coquotte mussels. The salted caramel and dark chocolate waffles we had for dessert was really great too. Just the right amount of sweetness!
I had a birthday dinner for a friend on a busy Saturday night. There were a few hiccups throughout the evening but TJ and the staff at Chambar went above and beyond to ensure that our entire table left happy. I've always had great experiences at Chambar and this visit did not disappoint. We'll definitely be back!
Exceptional service. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Chambar. They really made the night special for us. Also, great variety in Belgian beer!
Chambar was on my list for so long, and I am glad I was finally able to dine there! Flatbread was extremely delicious: an explosion of flavors! Drinks were very nice too—right level of strength and taste! Service was great too. I’m glad that they strictly check vaccine cards and IDs at the door. My only displeasure was that for reservations they require a credit card guarantee. I understand it but it’s very different from the industry practice.
While not bad, neither of our dishes really lived up to their promise. The "paella", however, was so unlike what a paella is that it bordered on offensive. Not just because of the almost total lack of similar ingredients but because it didn't capture any of the dishes beauty. Serving it with cheese on top was a final insult (also pretty sure it wasn't on the menu as such). Orzo (not saucy) with a chorizo sausage and some eggs and cheese (? !) is about as much paella as I am a fig.
Excellent place for a modestly priced high end dinner. The food is extremely affordable and tastes just as good as a $$$$ restaurant. The service is outstanding. Will be coming again for sure. The wife enjoyed the selection of wine as well.
I come here every few months with my partner for date night or lunch and I've never been disappointed. We always try a new beer or wine when we're here and so far, we haven't eaten the same thing twice yet. I can honestly say that I can't recall a negative experience here. The staff, ambiance, and food are always on point and it's become one of my favourite restaurants
Had the bisque and it was pretty tasty. Also had the Tuna as my main and I was disappointed. The dish had no focus, a strange mishmash of conflicting flavours. Don't recommend it.
Food and atmosphere on point. The service was outstanding. Very friendly and professional staff who provided an incredible experience. Thank you for a lovely evening!
Great choice of drinks and food, it's upmarket and delivers on that promise (and at a matching but worth it price) Their phyllo pastry sorbet dessert is the best thing I have ever tasted, period.
The service was good, ambience was pleasant and the food was excellent. Now I could rate this restaurant lower as some of the foods were not exactly to my palette but this is a different cuisine than I'm used to, but it appeared to be technically correct and excellently served. But that's not their fault. 5/5
Still one of my favourite restaurants in the city. The food is excellent. My go to dishes are the mussels and the lamb. Excellent and creative flavours all around, making it worth the price point for a unique experience. Extensive beer and drink list. The ambiance is Versatile and great for a date night, for business, or for a meal with friends/family. Most of the time the service is great, however I have had less attentive service on a couple occasions, which does discount the overall experience. Definitely worth a visit!
Chambar is one of the restaurant in Vancouver that I personally feel that has been able to exceed expectations years after years and keep patrons coming back for more.
Today's visit is amazingly good, we don't have to line up for long to try this long standing (maybe a staple) restaurant in downtown Vancouver. Good food, friendly service, comfortable environment
Love this place. It's been around for many years and has consistent quality of food and services. Cosy ambience and spacious space suitable for one, two or a large group. I had host my birthday there with the entire lower floor and it was great. Personally I enjoy going there with myself and enjoy a nice meal too when I don't feel like cooking. Chambar has become my second kitchen, with professional chef. I like going there for Coquette: Mussels, white wine, cream, smoked bacon lardons, spring onion; Kabocha squash, swiss chard, Salt Spring Island smoked tofu, pickled beets, walnuts, fresh pomegranate, tahini dressing when I like to have vegetables/vegetarian; and last night I had Pot au Feu Braised wild boar belly, chorizo, cassava, plantain, aji salsa, avocado, smoked bone broth for $29 main. Pictures don't do justice as the lighting is on the dark side at night but I took one for the record.
Basically, I find an excuse to hit this place everytime I'm in Vancouver. Excellent atmosphere, superb food, and to-die-for cocktails. Bonus: it's within walking distance of several hotels and my friend's condo. What more could you ask for? !
Very nice food and great service, the wine suggestion was not the best but over all nice place to go out for dinner! Desert was fantastic #chocolate mousse
I think this is my favourite place on Vancouver. I went for brunch, which was excellent on top of great service. Noticed they had an excellent beer list so decided to come back later in the day to sample it.absolutely sublime! Staff are great, venue is incredible and the person doing the interior design deserves an award. I'll be back!
My boyfriend and I ate here for dinner on our last night in Vancouver. Chambar is open for breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner, but we decided to go here at night since many of the reviewers wrote that the restaurant's dinner menu was stronger.
I made reservations through the link found on their site. Later on, I needed to reschedule our reservations and that was done quickly and easily from the confirmation email I received from Chambar.
We arrived to the restaurant earlier than expected and we were still shown to our table right away. Our server, Clare, was friendly and knowledgeable. With so many things on the menu that sounded good, we weren't sure what to order. We asked for, and followed her recommendations: veal stuffed calamari (delicious), congolaise mussels (delicious), and the tajine (yup, I'm going to say it again, delicious). Food and service overall was great.
We had gone to Joe Fortes the previous night, and I don't mean to knock Joe Fortes, because it was nice there too, but because I was so much happier with our dining experience at Chambar, I expected the bill to be higher to reflect that, but I was wrong. Yummy food, good service, nice atmosphere, decent prices, can't go wrong here. We'll be back here on our next trip to Vancouver.
Great food. I recommend this restaurant. Visiting Chambar restaurant at least a couple times a year. Always great food. I really enjoy being here with my family.
Great brunch spot for something a bit more elevated than bacon and eggs. Love the option to order 1 waffle as dessert. Good coffee and great service. Cant go wrong.
Relatively disappointed. Chambar used to be great, I feel like the quality has gone down recently. I had the lamb, which I found to be pretty bland. The amount of couscous served with it is pretty pathetic, i mean when paying that much for a dish you'd expect a decent portion? The mussels were good as usual, as was the salad. Dessert was great too. Overall a decent experience, however really don't think I'll return as there are so many other great up and coming restaurants in the city with better value and flavours.
Food was very good, although some of the brunch items are a little light, and weren't quite filling enough for some in our party. L'Omelette aux Champignons had good flavor, but was a little small. I had Le Burger du Chasseur, but it had beets on it this time. It was phenomenal. Two of us also had a waffle on the side, and particularly enjoyed the Fig Orange Marmalade.
Service was great above and beyond. I was disappointed with the limited meal options on the menu. I had the albacore tuna and the puree was what made the dish. Great environment would return for the drinks. Friend raved about the oysters
This was very easy to find.the initial decor from outside to inside was beautiful, sleek design retro seating, a few booths and counters. The greeting we received was nice but almost a little cold.we were seated at the rear of the restaurant, comfortable leather seating. The waitress came over gave us menus and filled our water glasses.after choosing to have the waffles on recommendations from previous reviews. I had the waffles with berry compote and another with bacon caramel, my partner also had waffles with bacon caramel and another with chocolate lavender.
The waffles were light and fluffy and the toppings were flavourful and light. (could put a little more lavender flavour in but very tasty)
Overall a good experience came across a little pretentious in places.the blonde lady who served us wearing a mustard color jumper was very nice and accommodating.
3.5 actually. I've had brunch in the past. Recently I've had mussels, which I have everywhere I go in Vancouver. Unfortunately, they do not compare on any level, except in decor, with Le Faux Bourgeois. In fact, I've had equally good mussels at The Hyatt Hotel. The service was polite but frigid. The spicing of both mussels and Foi Gras were not to my liking. Mussels not served with bacon, but pork belly. A distinct fennel flavour in all 3 mussel dishes, I believe. Foi Gras had a strong cinnamon taste. Drinks were lovely, as was atmosphere. Misses the mark in my opinion. Sorry!
Sweet Christmas what a delicious place. Me and my girl went on our last day in Vancouver and I'm sooooo happy we did. The atmosphere here is amazing dark with nice candle lighting and cool bulb lighting from the ceiling. The food was incredible, so different from the norm and so chalk full of flavour it's something I won't soon forget. To top all that off they have an amazing selection of craft beers. Thanks for everything Chambar, I will be back to Vancouver next year and when I am your on my list of places to eat.
Our party of four was seated quickly and we were treated very well. It was very hard to read the menus because of the dim lighting but the food was really good. We had the following courses which I would highly recommend: - Veal-stuffed calamari with taro chips - Striploin strips with onion rings and parmesan - Roasted halibut with chick peas - Mussels and bacon in a white wine sauce - Duck breast and gnocchi with a side of asparagus - Braised lamb shank with almond cous cous
We finished the meal with the carrot cake and biscuit au lait for dessert.
We spent 2.5 hours and were served the dishes in a series of courses to share. This made it easier to manage on the small table. Water was consistently topped up and we were each politely asked if we wanted another beer after finishing our first.
All in all, a great dining experience. The lighting could be a little brighter to help read the menu and to help enjoy the appearance of the food though.
A very nicely decorated restaurant, great atmosphere, good service. I felt that the menu was better set up for dinner although we were there for lunch. It is good as it is the only place in the area where you can book a table which avoids queueing. However I found it quite pricey for what you get.
The brunch here was lovely. The fresh waffles were amazing - they were warm and soft and a must try! The portions here are also quite good - the fruitand yoghurt was way larger than I expected. There is a good selection of breakfast/brunch food here. This place is quite popular so I would recommend booking in advance if you don't want to wait.
Another great brunch experience. Im constantly amazed at how many fantastic restaurants we have in Vancouver. Waffles, amazing. Such a gourmet experience. Also the pork belly black rice was something to die for. Great vibe, friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back here. Check them out.
