Accidentally stumbled upon Chau Veggie Express, and so happy I did. With my husband being gluten free and vegan, it can sometimes be a challenge when travelling to find the right food to suit us both. We ordered different meals but both were delicious and flavourful. Service was quick, and the bustling atmosphere of the market place made it a fun place to eat lunch! Lots of meal options inside the market place and lovely artisanal shops dotted around the area.

Pretty subtle flavours most of the time the food might work for you if you like super clean, almost muted flavours.

Great public market to start, it’s the perfect hustle and bustle paired w an amazing view and great food. Chau has lots of great options and they’re hearty and refreshing especially in the summer heat. I would highly recommend. Bonus: basically everything they use for their orders is compostable

Got a midnight bowl for lunch today. Absolutely disgusting and stale food. And so pricey at 16$ before tax. The bowl consisted of a pile of massive raw chunks of broccoli, hard little pellets of rice drenched in a sickeningly sweet peanut sauce, and rubbery bean curd sheets that smelled stale and smelled like they were just taken out of the fridge (you know that smell food takes on when it’s been sitting in a freezer or fridge for ages). Absolutely waste of money and genuinely disgusting tasting food. Don’t be fooled by reviews, stay away from this place. Service was so poor too. The young Korean looking lady serving made zero attempt to be pleasant or nice. Zero manners or any real social skills by Chau’s staff.

The food was delicious, and there was not a long wait despite the market being incredibly busy.

Amazingly delicious, flavourful and healthy. I had the golden temple soup and the organic peanut butter chocolate. The lattes are excellent as well. You order at the counter and take a seat. I really like this set-up and it is a very relaxing atmosphere. It is one of my favourite vegan restaurants in Vancouver. I would highly recommend this place

This was so good! I had the #8 Rice Fields Bowl and a Coconut Shake. Pictures and menu description do not do justice to how flavourful the bowl was. Besides the delicious sauce and noodles, I really liked what a wide variety of fresh vegetables the bowl contained. I'm not sure if the included cup of broth was meant to be added to the bowl or drank on its own, but I thought it was nice to sip on as a warm side. It was very fragrant. The coconut shake was also very tasty even though my personal preference would have been for it to be a little less sweet. It's still not as sweet as a lot of commercially available drinks, I just like things with minimal sugar. The shake is made with natural, minimally processed ingredients and it shows in the fresh coconut taste. It was cool that it contained big chunks of coconut meat even though some of them were hard to drink directly from the bottle - I had to use my chopsticks on some of them, but I was able to get everything out.
The price is quite good for the value. The portions for the bowls are big (I finished the whole thing without feeling like I was stuffing myself, but was totally satisfied after), and the food is really fresh and high quality. I paid less for the bowl than I've paid for many smaller and less impressive meals at sit-down restaurants.
The staff here were very pleasant as well. I notice a lot of vendors in the market will try to get me to order when I'm just browsing, even from a distance, but these people gave me space until I actually walked up to the register and made eye contact which I really appreciated.

Honestly the best vegan Vietnamese you can get. The drinks and ice cream are amazing too! If I could have it everyday I would!

I love Vietnamese coffee but never tried it before with coconut milk, cane sugar, and sea salt. If you are looking for a treat, I highly recommend it!

Excellent food with a wonderful vibe. Bonus points to the server wearing an animal rights tshirt!?

As a vegan and vegetarian finding an entire vegan place is such a joy. We ordered golden temple bowl, another soup, and namaste rice paper wraps. The food was so

My wife and I have been going to Chau Veggie for many years. We order everything from there, the golden temple bowl, the salad rolls, the chips, the dips, the at home sauces like the lemongrass sauce. We even buy our ice cream from there. This review is not about the food, we love it. But the service was just downright rude. After my wife ordered the rickety rickshaw bowl and gave a extremely generous tip, she asked for an extra lemongrass sauce (the one that comes in the tiny container of 1 or 2 tablespoons) and he flat out said "no, and you have to pay for an extra $2" and was rude about it like she was stealing something. Furthermore, the extra sauce comes for free when you order online. As a former customer that spent close to $100 each week at Chau Veggie to supplement our groceries, we will not be going back. The whole experience left a really unpleasant taste in our mouth. And as much as we like the food, being nice to people still matters.

We ordered 2 different bowls and one starter for lunch between 2 of us.

We were pleasantly surprised by the overall quantity. The meals were fresh and healthy. Being vegetarians, we had many options to choose from which is rare.

We loved the food and definitely be ordering from Chau more often.

I have been going to Chau and getting Candlelit Lantern Pho soup with extra steamed vegetables for years. Today I was so disappointed for the first time at Granville Island Chau to get no extra veggies (but charged for them) and also watery broth. I was told they don't have lemons at the Granville Island location, but I had ordered food delivery once from this location and it did. I brought the food back and asked where extra veggies were and she asked the cook to confirm they were added, who did, so I just walked away. As a loyal customer, this was very dissapintong. Maybe they ran out of kale and lemons.at least say that instead of giving me substandard food.

I ordered the red sand dunes for takeout, and the broth was inedible. It was overly spicy, and under salted. Not sure if this is some riff on bun bo hue chay, but I’d encourage the owners to taste the stock at the Granville island location as I threw the stock out.

I've only had the pleasure of trying the Namaste & Namahata rolls. They are a reasonably-priced delicious quick take away meal if you're anywhere near Granville Island.

I love the Golden Temple Soup and their veggie spring rolls. The golden temple soup has layers of flavours and their spring rolls are has a nice crunch. Everything there is good!

A must stop every time we are in Van! The rickety rickshaw bowl and Nolan spring rolls are dream worthy. Thank you for being such an amazing vegan restaurant. Also they sell large jars of their sauces and bags of Spring rolls. Just saying!

I used to work at granville island for a year and one thing I would always get from chau was the namaste roll. For a vegan salad roll, it was flavorful and unique and delicious. I recently returned and decided to try the signature coconut shake. I can't believe I never bought it before because it was mind blowing. I am a huge fan of young coconut and coconut water and this shake tasted like the best and freshest elements of a young coconut. It was to die for. I'm going to get the coconut shake every single time I return to granville island from now on. I'm not sure if they offer the option to blend the coconut shake since it just comes over ice but if they do then that would be optimal. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the coconut shake if you love coconut!

There's a reason why I consider Chau to be in top 3 spots for food in Vancouver and its name is Golden Temple Soup. All hail the Golden Temple Soup! Seriously, once you try it once, there's no going back.

Chau Veggie Express has been one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver.

The staff is super friendly, food quality is great.

The taro chips is definitely a must try!

Overall highly recommended!

Keep it up Chau Veggie!

No clunkers on this menu of vegan Vietnamese classics. The Rickety Rickshaw (Bun Chay) is a particularly satisfying veg lunch, and the Red Sand Dunes a great substitute for Bun Bo Hue. Sleeper hit: the vegan viet coffee and thai ice tea ice creams

Grabbed food to go while checking out the public market and was pleasantly surprised. Summer rolls were so tasty. Would like to go back to try the vegan pho-style soup. Service was quick and friendly, all the prices seemed reasonable for the quality!

Fairly pricey for fresh spring rolls, although this is in Granville market so kinda justified compared to prices elsewhere. Although giving one portion of peanut sauce for 2 x fresh spring rolls for two people is pretty stingy in my opinion.
Overall pretty tasty and flavorsome for a snack on the go, I didn't try anything else during this visit. It would be great if they could offers some kind of seating if possible (sparse elsewhere).
I would recommend the Namahada over the Namastay fresh rolls, the crispy inner filling is super tasty in comparison.

Had the "pho" soup. What an insult for the art of pho! Boring soup, broth tastes nothing and when you tell them, they can't do anything. They don't have anything to season it, except shriracha, no salt, no fish sauce, no soy sauce, no extra Vietnamese corriander, no lime, no nothing! Plain sponge tofu, not seasoned. This is exactly what people think veggy food is suppose to taste: water.

If you haven't tried the Golden Temple Soup - you haven't lived. And while you're at it - try the salad rolls.yum.bring me one:)

I was there on a Friday. The market was packed. I just couldn't believe there are so many people there on a workday. Anyway, back to the main topic. The foods are delicious and fresh. Very fast service. So, don't be discouraged if there are people in front of you. My order came to around $35 includes two main dishes and one appetizer. What stands out to me about this eatery is that they offer "no garlic and onion option" on few of their dishes. Next time you are in the public market, give them a try.

Way over priced and rude service. Charging extra for a splash of fish sauce. Won't eat here again
