I'm writing this letter to recommend Mike Lenz, an Intermediary, at Chinook Business Advisory Ltd. If you are considering the sale of your business, Mike will provide a rational evaluation of the existing business and the potential to scale the business in the right hands. If you don’t already understand Mike will apprise you that the potential belongs to whom ever scales the biz.

As an Intermediary, Mike conducts his work with determination and tenacity. These are probably the same traits that made your biz worth anything to sell in the first case. In my case the biz was somewhat unique, and it attracted considerable interest. Much of this interest was driven by curiosity, which Mike was polite enough to follow through on and eventually we had a few contract discussions. Discussions were sequentially not simultaneously, so no, you are unlikely to see a bidding war. We inked a contract within the range of rational expectations.

If you are thinking of selling your business, and it’s the third or more time you thought this, it may be an important clue. Valuating and conducting the negotiation and sale should not be undertaken by someone close to the biz. The buyer’s interests are also important because you will want two signatures on your contract. In the end, we sold our business for more than I thought we would get. I have absolutely no regrets for hiring Mike, and if in the future, we have another business to sell. Mike will be the first guy I talk to.

We first met Mike Lenz of Chinook when we sold our sister business in 2020. He represented the buyers to a successful purchase in the selling of that business. We then hired Chinook (Mike) to represent and position our main business for sale about a year later. We ended up selling to the same buyers that purchased our sister business.
