Had a unique experience that I thought was very odd.

I asked if I could join the fitness classes in the main area (not Shes fit) and because I am a male, they told me males are excluded from fitness classes. I found this ridicolous and then they tried selling me personal training.

I asked another staff member the following day and they said that men could join but it seemed to be on the "approval" of one male personal trainer who runs the classes. The staff member seemed to try to discourage me from joining heavily because I'm a male. At this point I was only interested and then found out they would charge over 20.00 a class anyways (probably alot more than this). A community center has it much more affordable.

I found this a very odd form of exclusionary type of discrimination. Also I found it odd that they kept trying to sell me personal training instead constantly. Also it felt like another type of underlying exclusionary practice of an discrimination.

Please do better than this. I've come for 3 years+ now but didnt ever feel excluded before this in an odd form of sexism and/or underlying level of another issue.

Good gym.

Equipment is good, space between each station, clean.

The crowd that attends are also open and nice, unlike some gyms that favour bone heads, and gym rats.

Highly recommend.

I come to your gym 1,2 or maximum 3 times a month when my schedule aligns with my wife's, who is a member.

Before the drop in was 10$, which was expensive, but acceptable.

Last time I came, they asked me 5 times where my membership card was and i told them I didn't have one. They were so surprised,   same like the only option to get in the gym was as if one was a member. I wanted to exercise and to pay for a drop in. Then, visibly upset and looking at me annoyed, the employees at the front desk told me, drop in was 20$. 20$? Since when this doubled and why?  So I left.
I like your gym, but I will not pay 20$ for a single drop in practice. Sorry! I don't know what you think your gym is, but your management is confused.

There are other gyms in the neighborhood.

If you think you will force me to become a member this way, you are wrong. Exactly the opposite.   Now you lost two clients. I'll just go somewhere else and will take my wife with me.

I improved so much going to Club 16, but I really could not have done it without Miloslav Kapic! He's an incredible personal trainer, and genuinely fun to meet. There's a reason the whole gym loves and respects this guy; he's helped so many people including me exceed their goals! He's extraordinarily knowledgeable, and really built my confidence as a newcomer. I've been going here for a few months now, and I could not recommend it more, especially because of Milo!

Be very careful with your membership here and make sure you understand all the loopholes in their contracts. I have been a member here for years only because it's close to where I live and I like the She's fit option. But I've been ripped off multiple times and every time they have a very "legal" reason for it. The most recent rip off was when I cancelled my membership couple weeks ago but today I saw a charge of $41.99. When I called I was told when you request cancelation, you give them 30-days notice and during this period they can charge you for everything. This $41.99 was a yearly charge they get from all their members (god knows why they even do this on top of the membership cost!). They just make up their own rules and you won't know you're trapped until it's late.

The most worthless place you can try for fitness, mostly the washrooms and floor is dirty, plus they charge you yearly on May even if you don't want to renew your subscription for next year, furthermore, if you want to cancel your subscription, you have to provide medical documents otherwise they charge $78!
If you don't believe me, waste your time and try it.

Very unprofessional and poor service and rude. I and my friend went to the gym to try a month and see if we want to continue on or not. Not even couple month, we noticed that they charged us 3-4 times per month, so soon we found It out. We wanted to solve it, however the staffs are very unprofessional and unhelpful at all. Still waiting it to be solved. I asked for the head office contact informations, but I have told by the staff that we are not allowed to contact with the head office. There is something wrong and they are coving each others back to not letting us talk to the head office. We just went there 1-2 times since these couple month. We are fully done with the gym! We have been with others gyms for several years and nothing happened like this. Can’t believe how staffs got trained here. Very disappointed for their unprofessional rude service. We are still hoping to solve the issue as soon as possible and leave from this place. What the staff explained to us was totally different than the reality.

My husband is unable to use the gym for now due to health reasons. We've asked to put his membership on hold rather than cancel. We were told to get a letter from our doctor. You just have to look at my husband to know he can't use the gym right now. We will NOT tie up the medical system with unnecessary requests or pay for a letter.

I have been coming here for a while now and it is an okay gym. It’s what you would expect from a regular gym, however the barbells on the benches are constantly missing, machines are sometimes broken, and members don’t clean up after themselves. 5 stars to staff members like Emmanuel and Irfan because they’re friendly and always keeping this place from being jungle gym. 0 stars to some of the female staff. They’re not welcoming and never at the counter. Instead, they’re on the phone, not cleaning (the garbage was overflowing onto the ground) or hiding in the garage.

TLDR, get more equipment (barbells) and train the 0 star employees!

This review is primarily for a personal trainer, Miloslav Kapic, who I had the honour of working with in the last three months. Club 16, North Vancouver location is extremely privileged to have such a superb trainer. Miloslav is extremely knowledgeable, patient, possesses a unique training technique. I acquired tons of knowledge from him and have seen wonderful results already. I highly recommend Miloslav as personal trainer to those who want to build endurance, masculine physique, strength training, and for any other fitness goals that you may have. Miloslav deserves 5 stars all the way!

I've been coming for years and the people here really make this gym a great place to workout. However, Johnathan is causing constant problems for the members. He threatens to cancel your membership for deadlifting, because he thinks we're dropping the weights when we are clearly putting it down in a reasonable fashion. He has also gotten several members in trouble for simply spotting another member at the bench.talk about attention to safety. A multitude of members have nothing but negative remarks regarding him, and something needs to be done. I love this gym and would love to continue working out here.

This location is bitter sweet. Maintenance and equipment is quite poor and limited, however, staff such as Emmanuel and Erfon really do their best to keep the standards of the gym flowing properly with great customer service and hospitality. They excel in their positions and have been the friendliest and the best so far.

Would give zero stars if I could! Not only was I a member but I used to work there prior to that so everything written I have seen first hand. DO NOT SIGN UP! I put so much money into this club with a membership and years of PT as I am an athlete and was doing sport specific training a few times a week. I got injured and was unable to use my PT for several months during which my trainer left the club. The PT’s at Club 16 don’t have much of a background other than a 2 week course they take… aside from
The trainer I had- which is why when he left and I was not able to workout during my injury I requested a refund. The rule for a refund is you need to provide medical notes as to why you cannot workout. I did all this and then some! I provided X-rays, notes, physician references and still they refused to give me my money back. On top of that they suggested I spend $150 a session to stretch with my PT. Absolutely ridiculous! Again I’ve worked there and I have seen them deny people with far worse conditions for far more petty reasons. It’s ridiculous! They are happy to take your money but won’t even follow their own policies for a refund. After months of back and forth I caved and decided to just cancel the membership as I didn’t want to give them more money. Turns out they never processed it and have been charging me this whole time! Again DO NOT SIGN UP! With all the new gyms and studios now in north Vancouver, you are better off taking your money anywhere else!

Was super excited to start at this gym due to the pictures and she's fit section. Unfortunately was disappointed the second I walked in. The she's fit is in a dark basement with very limited equipment. Upstairs was super crowded and not worth it. I had more chance getting equipment at planet fitness and that's saying alot. There are way better gyms out there for less money!

I have nothing but respect and appreciation for Johnathan’s knowledge as a personal trainer as he helps me to recover and improve my flexibility and strength in order to move more actively through my 60’s. Combining yoga, stretching and weights, he makes sure I am protecting my back and neck with proper form. The difference after a couple of months is amazing. I highly recommend Johnathan to anyone looking for a solid personal trainer. I understand he is also the fitness manager and he seems to have an easy rapport with both staff and members.

The worse of the worse place! Service if terrible. They are taking payment from my cc three times in a day, because of error system without notifying me. No clear explanation. I am glad I've check my transactions, who knows ho often their system having a glitch! Terrible experience.never again.

Excellent! $4 a week for a great facility. Friendly staff, clean changing rooms, plenty of cardio machines and enough weight machines. The free weights are usually the busiest spot but as long as you don't go at peak times, you'll be able to use whatever you need.

I have been a member of the club for more than three years now,
I never wanted to leave a bad comment
But the status of the inspection is not suitable for the equipment inside the club and it is not adequately monitored and followed up.
The leg extension machine has been out of service for more than 5 months now.
My friends who are members of the club and I have told the manager about this issue many times.
I did not want to leave a negative comment, but I thought that maybe someone would solve this issue in this way.

To be honest, machines are bit old. However well maintained and enough varieties to workout. There is no downside honestly. The best thing is 5mins away from my place.

The club 16 north van is a really nice place to workout and the staff are super helpful and respectful especially Ella (Elahe) and Devin with the best customer service ever. I found them very friendly and professional to reach out to every time I have a question about my profile or I need help with something.

I’ve been going here for 6 or 7 years and love it. They have a ton of equipment and it’s all well-maintained - machines, cardio, free weights, cables, Olympic stations, etc.
The staff is friendly. The gym and locker rooms are clean.
It has its busy times, but with basic gym etiquette and a bit of flexibility, I can always get in the workout I want. As long as you know it’s not rude to ask someone how much longer they are using something, you can always get it after they’re done. If you’ve never been to a real gym and this is too intimidating, you may not always get what you want if you can’t avoid the peak times, but at this price, you can’t expect to have the place all to yourself. I paid almost twice as much for a gym 20 years ago!
Unless you need some super-specific equipment, you can’t go wrong here.
If they could improve one thing, it would be to have a bit less cardio equipment and two more Olympic lifting stations (there are 6). Two thumbs up!

Trainers clearly have no idea what they’re doing.

Often see them doing exercises that could injure the client as well as wasting their time and money.

Ever since she's fit at cap mall amalgamated w the club 16 on Lonsdale, the quality has been going down.there is close to no parking space, the equipment at the women's section and overall vibe feels like an apartment gym.way too much competition for them to be charging this much for this little.

The current general manager in this location (Kathryn B) is not responsive to account inquiries even after multiple email follow-ups.she either responds to emails very late (close to a month) or just doesn't respond.

It is unfortunate as I liked going to this gym. But now that I am no longer a member, I cannot get a response.

The facility looks alright - but I wouldn’t recommend them. I went there to sign up - and then we waited (20 minutes after being told two seconds) to find out the person who was supposed to assist went home. Admin at the front desk are not cross trained in tours or sales either which is quite weird. Waste of my time.

Called this location 32 times today with no answer. Seems like every time I try to reach out to cancel an appointment or ask about moving a time nobody is available to take the call. This isn't the first, second, third or even fifth incident of this happening.

I recently stopped working out here because previously, myself and other gym patrons were made to wait 10-15 minutes past our booked gym slot (s) to enter the gym. The organization at this location is extremely poor.

Do not become a member of this gym, especially the North Vancouver location. They ignore requests for cancellation and continue to charge your credit card after you cancel. Read all reviews! Their staff (JPierre) are well trained to offer no solution and ignore your concerns. Over $300 in NSF fees on a cancelled membership and an expired card. This does not include the biweekly fees for over a year.
Ill be taking this situation to their corporate offices and to the BBB.

Very disappointed after few years of membership. I noticed the place is getting dirtier with less maintenance and upkeep few months back. I notified the front desk but did not see any improvement. The hallways and stairs were dirty and dust was everywhere. Then I cancelled my membership. They told me it will take 30 days and I still had to pay membership fees during that month. Then they charged me with the full annual maintenance fee and told me it is the policy to charge for the full year although I just used the facility for four months. During the past year not only the membership fee was increase but also the annual fee.

No one answered the phone when I called. I had never been to this location before and I had questions about parking. Once I got into the gym upstairs, it was hard to find a staff member working to point me towards the mens change room and there wasn't adequate signage making that obvious. Other than those 2 issues, the gym experience was fine. What you would expect from Chain gym. I did like that the machines count and keep track of your reps as well as time your breaks. That was a nice feature.

Lately this gym has been suffering a bit. Between the large crowds during covid and the amount of broken machinery, definitely considering switching gyms. About 10 machines currently broken, over half have been that way for over 2 weeks. Please make fixing the machines a higher priority, the machines are literally the main thing we pay to use.
Also been charged 3 times for not showing up for booked time slots, even though I know I was present and checked in for these. Was told that the system has issues sometimes, but no one tried to offer reimbursement for the 3 10$ charges. Was told a manager would look at it, gave my name and number, nothing happened.

Decent gym but the general manager is VERY rude and unprofessional. Yelling at customers for “Covid violation” instead of politely approaching the issue. I’ve never seen a bigger ego trip for a “gm” position that pays slightly more than minimum wage. She really needs to learn her place.

After cancelling my membership. I have been waiting 3 months for a refund, because they kept charging my credit cards months after I cancelled my membership. They change manager every three or five months. Nobody wants to be held responsable For the lack of membership’s management. Retaining members money, is ilegal if you have been taking them out of their credit cards without consent Club 16!

Signed up for some personal training three months ago now and have been promised a workout plan but still havent recieved anything.the trainer i had was recently fired and i had to find out myself secondhand, the managers of the facility have done nothing to communicate with me. Thoroughly upset with the level of customer service from management, not to mention the lack of communication. They’re happy to take your money and then ignore you. I wouldnt recommend anyone to come here.

Horrible experience with manager Katherine she is very rude and doesn’t care about the clients. After finding about all these charges on my account and extra fees I didn’t authorize I asked her to remove the fees. She laughed and then I got a call later that day saying my membership has been revoked. I called head office and they said it’s up to the general manager. Please beware of the hidden fees I had to pay an extra $180!

Absurdly over crowded gym, even during covid. I cant believe they are allowed to have 90 people in their location at once. Its gotten worse since every other gym in north van has gone bankrupt or is on reduced hours.

In the beginning I was quite pleased with this facility and it’s staff, of course I was in the process of spending a good chunk of change and on personal training. I had to terminate my membership due to a change of work due to Covid and being unable to transfer to another location and I also asked for a refund on the training package I had purchased. They had no issue ending my membership but sadly, they have been absolutely terrible refunding me the money that I am entitled to. I have emailed numerous occasions with numerous employees of the North Vancouver location and this began months ago. It began by not receiving reply’s regarding my training then once I finally got through, I was lead to think something was being done, only to once again not have emails replied to and not to my surprise, no refund.

So I caution you, if you are not 100% certain you will have no reason to stop personal training, do not purchase it, I highly doubt you will receive a refund. It states that $75 is non-refundable and also what’s been used which is fair, however after submitting multiple documents proving my change of address and that I am no longer close to a facility, I have had no luck and have been left frustrated and unwilling to spend money at another fitness facility since I’ve spent enough money already at Club16.

Update:

After months of waiting and after leaving my review, I did receive a small reimbursement. It is quite minimal and substantially less than half of what I had paid (I only used half of my sessions, possible 1 more than half) so I was expecting a bit more, but regardless, I have at least received something. I still stand by my previous statement, be weary about spending that much money unless you are so certain you can commit, as I still don’t feel I can justify all that I’ve lost.

This place is full of people with little to no gym etiquette. The staff do not seem to care about people slamming and not putting away thier weights. Staff are short and very rude whenever you try to communicate with them. I used to enjoy working out there but it seems that there always seems to be non existent staff over seeing the weight room area and reminding clients of the rules. Super dissapointed but i guess that what you get for $16 bucks a month.

I have paid in advance for my training with my personal trainer Lukas, 12 sessions March 2020, then Covet happened, we stopped going to the Gym, I asked for a refund because the gym fired my trainer and I also have doctors note stating I can’t work out, they still reject to refund my payment and asking me to go to gym and just train with someone else. I am extremely upset and disappointed with their service.

Jonathan was my personal trainer at Club16 Waterfront, I can't thank him enough for my progress so far through out the year. He made the workouts & nutrition so easy for me, he helped me drop 60 lbs over the course of 9 months & reduced the body fat by 12% and also gain muscle mass at the same time.

His techniques is very friendly, he worked mainly on calisthenics in the beginning to make sure I develop good muscle memory then he helped me move to strength training.

Regardless of where you are in your fitness journey, I am sure Jonathan will be a great coach for you.

From 4 stars to 1. As many have cautioned there are hidden fees and once you try to cancel membership they continue charging you anyway. I had a confirmation that the membership was being cancelled then realised they continued charging me for months. Keep all emails and records of your cancellation request!

I had been seeing Johnathan for personal training for about 5 months and with his skill and training expertise he managed to help me achieve a weight loss of almost 30lbs. Never in my life did I imagine getting my fitness back in check. Never did i feel like I was at a boot camp as he was super friendly and understanding of where my current fitness level was. If you're looking for a trainer on the north shore that can bring you amazing results fast.start training with Johnathan!

I will make sure I will never walk back to this Gym. I just needed to cancel my membership due to COVID in Oct 2020 and was planning to go back after pandemic.
It takes them forever to confirm my cancelation and they still just keep charging me after 2 months. They don't get back to any of your follow ups, emails and phone calls.
They just need to come up with a better plan to continue operating their business rather than profiting from members during 2020 Pandemic. Just go to another fitness club if you need to. Absolutely terrible.

An excellent place to work out, I signed up for personal training for the first time in my life and I have made vast improvements in a relatively short time with PT Johnathan Thomas, I would highly recommend John to any athlete who is looking to increase strength and mobility.

Covid controls are seriously lacking.barely anybody wears a mask, cleaning is only done once a day. Very limited staff presence. Wipes/hand sanitizer bottles are sometimes empty. For $4 a week you get what you pay for i guess. This gym has been great up until covid, now I'm disappointed and switching.

I had been with the gym for almost four years, I used to love the gym and went there regularly, even had joined personal trainer program when I first started. However, the gym has been crowded of people, I couldn't even use some equipments or find a space to place the workout mat - even before covid. I decided to cancel my membership last month and they were trying to make me pay extra two weeks- there's a 30-day cancellation policy, however mine was more than 40 days - this is how they run the business. I had tried to contact them through emails but they never gave me an explanation or replied "your last day was stated as the previous email. ". I had no choice but contacted Better Business Bureau and got the issue resolved. The $10 late/no-slow fee is a total rip-off btw. You charge $10 for no-slow makes some sense but showing up later than 15 mins in the timeslot reserved makes no sense to me. Stay away from the gym and save yourself some trouble.

The Good: It's a 9-5 persons gym with good prices, and the sales staff are not very pushy
The Bad: It's kind of small, there are only two squat racks compared to steve nash's 3, it can get crowded at the busy hours
The UGLY: I was not informed that the gym was re-opened post-covid. I only realized when I was seeing charges begin again on my credit card. I called to cancel the membership and not only were they not apologetic about the charges, they also stood by the idea that I was required another month of membership fees on top of that in order to cancel.

It is more than 3 years I've joined Club 16 and enjoyed going there. Staff are very friendly, good equipment and best of all great personal trainers and group instructors like Sam, She is great, joyful and inspiring. The club should be proud having her as instructing staff,

It is about 2 months I've joined "Club 16", and really enjoy there, I have a perfect and experienced trainer that her name is "Zara". The club staffs are so friendly, the floor and equipment are clean, beside it, there are two issues that I am not satisfied with them: 1.there is only one washroom upstairs for women which men use is too and is is really disgusted and I personally prefer do not use is, 2.the other thing is Music that playing there, some tracks are really annoying and prevent to focus and concentrate on the exercise and physical practice. Totally I really like there and happy to join "Club 16 "
