Dancing Bear Inn

Had stayed here while finding a house to rent in the kootenys. Cindy, and Kelly along with the other staff on the team where really helpful during this time.

The lay out is nice and has a log cabin feel in the lobby, where gatherings like cards and baore games can be found being played at night sometimes.

The kitchen is gas range stove and a shared fridge with glass sliding doors for a clear view of the fridge.

Kitchen is open 7am to 10pm

Very modern looking finishes and a small courtyard wich may be nice in the summer.

Great value if traveling and not needing all the extra things a hotel has the whole time.
It's a bit of a walk from grocery stores and is close to all the other hotels.

Staff are informative and happy to help any way they can.

The twin private room was clean and Zen cozy including a desk and sink. Washroom was shared with those on the floor and was clean. Excellent location to pick up the Silvercity Stagelines bus. Friendly, outstanding service: they printed out my flight boarding pass. Highly recommend.

Overall a good experience but mostly because the hostel was fairly empty/unbooked. The hallways are very loud and people seem oblivious to common courtesies. For the top floor, it's surprising there aren't more restrooms.

I always stay at the Dancing Bear when I'm in Nelson. I feel so comfortable there. It's great to have the kitchen to use and so nice to sit by the fire and knit in the evening. So close to all the shops on Baker. Staff is the best!

The hostel very clean and well kept up. The room was cozy and exactly as pictured. I very much enjoyed my stay. I would recommend it to others. I hope to stay again.

I was sceptical of staying in a dormitory and a mixed one, most especially, but I shouldn't have worried, I met some wonderful friends there, and the staff there are very helpful.

Loved it! Very friendly & knowledgable staff, clean rooms, great common spaces (kitchen, patio, lounges) with lots of character, and a great location for walking around Nelson. I’d definitely stay here again if I’m back in Nelson!

We had a lovely two night stay at the Dancing Bear Inn. The living areas are well equipped, bed rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and every room has its own sink to avoid lineups at toothbrushing time. Excellent location right on Baker Street, within walking distance to shops, restaurants, Lakeside park and more. There is construction close by which can be a bit noisy in the morning if you sleep with the windows open. Construction also removes their parking lot for the time being, but they will give you a parking pass to use close to the hostel. We would stay again

Three nights here, the staff have been great. The hostel is clean and well maintained. It’s located on the edge of downtown, with lots of decent restaurants and coffee shops about. There is a secure lockup for bicycles, skis, and snowboards. The town is very picturesque and has a colourful past.

Our family enjoyed our stay at Dancing Bear Inn. The hostel overall is very nice, and if your on the fence of if it deserves 5 stars, I think the dancing bear etches and paintings will push most people to say yes indeed this is a 5 star hostel. Wifi was good, nice common areas to sit and relax, kitchen open during most of the day for cooking or storing food, laundry area, place to safely store ski/snowboard gear and bikes. Also the location on baker st, is good its right by the best western. I would stay here again when we visit Nelson in the future. Note: We did stay again and it was a wonderful visit as well, very nice hostel.

Clean, friendly and so cozy! Beds are comfortable and it's right on Baker Street, so perfect to walk anywhere you want in town. Staff were also accommodating when we needed to check in late.

Pretty sick place. Stupidly inexpensive and the people working at the front desk are unbelievably chill

A wonderful hostel in the heart of downtown Nelson, within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Good value with plenty of room to play games, read and relax. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the hostel is very clean. I would highly recommend staying here.

Location is awesome! Right on Baker Street. Most of the downtown is within walkable distance. Clean and quiet rooms. Friendly staff. Will be back again.

I’ve stayed here both in the dorm and private rooms. Clean, usually quiet and everything you could expect about a well established hostel. Be sure to chat with the other travellers and pack your earplugs ;)

Have stayed here a couple times, always clean and tidy rooms. The staff are cheerful and helpful. Cindy is a superstar and made me feel so welcomed and at home in Nelson the last two times I visited, if I could give her 6 stars I would!

Fantastic spot - stayed in the "Bear Haus" suite w/ wife & kid for a ski race at Whitewater - fully contained unit w/ bedroom, living room, bath/shower, FULL kitchen (dishwasher, stove, oven, coffee maker w/ AMAZING local coffee beans and grinder! Etc.etc.) Super awesome old building, private patio and entrance, off street parking, fantastic central location but still quiet. Had some fun playing games in the common room. 100% would recommend this place (at least the Bear Haus suite that we had - but the hostel rooms looked pretty nice too), and can't beat the value.
If you're looking for a new modern "fancy" place - this isn't it - but if you want a truly unique place, great location, super value, well kept up and CLEAN - this is for you.

Great little hostel right in the center of town. Very walkable, comfy, and the customer service is wonderful.
