Darby's Public House

Came on a busy night last week. We sat at the bar. Bartender nice and friendly, however the short one who saw and sat us first wasn't all friendly. Food also took an exceptionally long time.

We are returning customers and the drinks and food are always good! However, this time around, we were surprised by the rude service we received. We came for trivia and each ordered a drink, with some of us ordering food as well, and stayed approximately 2-2.5 hours (the time trivia took). Midway through, our server came over and let us know (rudely) that we were expected to order more to stay for trivia. We asked her how much we were expected to order and suggested that they list this somewhere on the website / menu as we weren’t aware of this and she again responded very rudely, telling us off and saying this should be « common sense » and that we were cheap for only ordering one drink. Her tone shocked me, as it was very condescending and sounded angry. As she delivered our receipts, she also told one of us that « she didn’t think he would tip anyway ». I understand that places can expect customers to spend a bit more, but this should be communicated clearly somewhere before rather than being told off rudely halfway through trivia. I hope this is a one-off as we usually love Darbys, but will likely not be coming back.

Glad is is still there and going. One of the Most Favorite Hangouts back when I was living around there just after getting out of Kits High School.

Nice ambiance, great service, and nice music with twinkling lights. We went there on the weekend and the vibe was what made our night special. We have been wanting to try the place out for a long time and was totally worth the wait.

Absolutely dreadful. Went to an event there. Although the event itself was great and the wait staff was lovely, it was still single handedly one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a pub or restaurant. Definitely do not recommend.

Nice bar for a quiet drink, large selection on tap, staff are friendly and helpful to describe the available drinks.

Darby's went above and beyond accommodating a big group in their downstairs for an afterparty that I attended. Not only were they able to book us with only 1 night notice, when I and a few others who had been running behind showed up a few minutes after they'd been supposed to close their kitchen, they let us order food. They did show a sense of urgency for us to order right away, but they weren't rude about it and weren't grumpy with us for the rest of the night; quite the opposite - the staff was very warm and left a really good impression.
Most impressive and kind of unexpected given how small they are is the huge tap list. There’s multiple options for just about every variety of beer. I got a Parkside “Nitro Button” Irish stout and really liked it! It didn’t have the coffee flavour but it had the smoothness that you often get from coffee stouts which was really nice.
I had the Chickpea Curry to eat. I might’ve described this a stew rather than a real curry just because it was less spicy than I was expecting, but it was still tasty. The picture makes the sauce look a little watery but that wasn’t actually the case, I thought the consistency was good.
Prices for food and drink are typical. Most food items are between $16-$20. Most of the beers are $7.5 for a small glass (10 or 16 oz depending on the beer), $8.5 for the larger glass (14 or 20 oz). $7.5 for 16 oz of beer in 2022 seems pretty good to me.
Hoping to return to this cozy neighbourhood bar soon!

Went on a Wednesday night and learned every weds is karaoke night! We sat up on the rooftop to relax bit more. Nice ambiance with fairy lights and heaters. We ordered wings and the butter chicken poutine. All good food and no complaints:)

I was in recently with some friends and we had a great experience with Hugo! He was knowledgeable while helping us out and we ended up trying some beers we hadn’t before. Thanks for the great experience!

My wife and I sat in the patio and had a very pleasant evening. Even though the place was very busy the waitresses never forgot about us. Food was also amazing!

Unfortunately the menu has changed. They used to have some of the best vegan burger options, but now it's only the standard impossible burger you get everywhere else. Such a shame because the pulled jackfruit burger they used to do was amazing.

We called to make a reservation in the afternoon, when we arrived the host abruptly told us we did not have a reservation and put us at a table without cutlery or water. We then watched her take a table that got there moments before us to the patio. When we asked to go next to the patio she condescendingly explained to me that people got here before us, which I replied to by saying that we understand that, but when we called this afternoon they said we had a table reserved on the patio. She then sat us in the middle of a walkway and we were not served for 20 minutes and then we left.

Great service. One of the better caeser salads I've had in Vancouver. Great selection of beer.

We sat in rooftop, waiting for half an hour for someone to take our order. Waitress was busy attending other tables and ignored us. Ended up leaving. Rare to experience this in Vancouver.

Absolutely love this place, their bartender RYAN is the reason I keep coming back. Great food, great atmosphere, and even better staff!

We've been there a few times for a quick lunch of the Darby Burger and sides. I think its typical bar food - tasty, average price.

Nice, chill atmosphere. Very good beer selection, with a nice selection of local offerings. I had the Darby's burger, it was very good and fresh, but could've used a little more seasoning on the meat. But maybe I like salt too much.
Our server was very friendly and attentive, without being overbearing at all. Will definitely return

The service was pretty good, as the waitress was genuinely nice. I'm just not particularly a big fan of the food and drinks there. They are also a bit pricey so I was hoping for the food to be much better:/
I got the waitress to recommend both the food and drink, but yeah.they were both really disappointing. The CAULIFLOWER BITES was super sour, I could barely finish half of it. The MERRIDALE MO'MORO BLOOD ORANGE was also sour, which means the drink-food combination was the worst.

Just had a great experience in Darby’s. There was a strapping young man from Ireland with a beard and glasses who was so helpful. He was an absolute gentleman and he exceeded my expectations of a Barman. Are they all like in Ireland? If so I may book a trip.

Great little pub with a nice rooftop patio. Tons of different beer on tap. This place has kareoke on Wednesdays and it is honestly one of the most fun kareoke nights in the whole city.

I like it here, but the music they play is infuriating. I know music taste is subjective but blaring the same radio tracks every day (particularly at lunchtime) is enough to make me come back here less often.
Something a little more chill would be more appropriate during the day for a more comfortable eating experience. Feels like a teenage rave right now.

I wish I lived in the neighborhood so this could be my local. Well curated beer list, with some unique finds. Food was everything you could expect. Wings were great, favourite flavour was the 'hotique'; will be curious to see how people pronounce that, as it's probably not what you think.

Shopped here for years! SINCE 2004.seem like they have jaccked their prices extremely ast few months. OK. Not worth it, plan ahead.

The absolute best pub for weekend drinks around kitsilano. Ryan & Sauana are the best server/bartender combo in a long while. Great view of the mainland sky land from the roof top, what a pub. Thank you Ryan and Sauana!

Emilda is THE BEST! She went above and beyond and ran the floor by herself LIKE A BOSS! That woman deserves a raise, tip her well because she deserves it. Great selection of beer, the pizzas are great. You have to go here.

EDIT RESPONSE 1: what a pathetic attempt at responding to my comment from the owner. You completely disregarded my comment and chose to create your own narrative. This had NOTHING to do with me being impatient for a table FULL STOP. This had to do with your immature, poorly trained, and unable to handle stress staff and their inability to deal with customers. I simply requested to know where we were in the queue and all your hostess did is stare at me and say rude comments, which, I let her know if she just stared at her paper and then let me know where I was in line, the situation could have been solved 10 times over, but your RUDE staff thought it was more important to “put me in my place” and how dare I approach the hostess stand without being called upon. HORRIBLE business, HORRIBLE staff. Not to mention the draft beer tastes like the lines haven’t been cleaned in ages. GROSS. Didn’t think it was possible to dislike this place more than I already did but after that response you can make sure I’ll be letting everyone know just what a poor establishment this is.

As a person that is intolerant to gluten, this place is absolutely amazing for gluten free pub eats! Most, if not all, of their breaded food is gluten free. I absolutely love their mushroom calamari, and their wings. The only place I can get decent pub food without having to compromise what I'm actually craving! Highly, highly recommend to my gluten intolerant friends out there. They have a very good gluten free beer as well! The best thing of all is that they don't charge a premium for subbing a gluten free bun! I really, truly appreciate this, having paid many extra dollars for tiny dry buns and slices of bread at restaurants and cafes. The service is always super friendly, food comes at a good pace, and the prices are reasonable! The atmosphere both inside and on the patio is really nice as well. Clean, simple, and stylish without being pretentious or cold-feeling. Great pub, highly recommend.

Great atmosphere and excellent staff. The server Sauana is super attentive and made us fell like home. 5-stars place to relax and have great time.

I really like Darby's. It's a true neighborhood pub: it has nice views from its spacious rooftop patio, a relaxed atmosphere, a down-to-earth and friendly staff, a nice variety of delicious craft beers and ciders, and tasty food, much of which is made from locally-sourced ingredients. I live in Burnaby, but I'm happy to go across town to enjoy a pint and a nosh at Darby's.

I was recently trapped in quarantine for two weeks and dialed up Darby's liquor delivery service for help. It was the first time I'd ever had to have booze brought right to me, and man did this establishment deliver! Easy, fast (dude was here in 10 minutes) with stellar staff including the most charming and lovely fellow who showed up. It was the first human contact I'd had in about a week - faith in humanity restored!

My bad this should have been a solid 4. Honestly, food specials would be nice. But since nobody is dining in. I get it. Its very hard to operate a restaurant in this climate and every penny counts. It's hard enough to keep the lights on. Good look and great patio. Everything was great.

Just went with some friends for some beers. Great patio (even with a bit of rain). With 31 beers on tap, there's something for everyone. Walked past a couple eating hot wings and it smelled delicious, if you feel like risking your appetizer on the nose of a stranger.

Went here on a Saturday morning recently as the patio was opening on a nice day. Greeted well and sat down. There were 3 tables there before us. As we sat, the other 4-5 tables were quickly sat after us.

We ordered breakfast dish of eggs, potato's, toast and a burger plate. We didn't get our food for 1 hour and 10 mins. It was the same for most people there. We were informed there was only 1 cook in the kitchen. Just absolutely bad management. How a restaurant could have 1 cook on line on a weekend morning for brunch.

The food is pretty average pub food. The patio takes it up to 4 stars. The 1 hour 10 min food wait takes it back to 3, and the poor management takes it to 2.

Editing my review to add the date we visited in a good faith response to the owners. It was Saturday, 01 AUG 2020. We sat down around 12: 05. We had our order taken probably within the next 5 minutes. Our food arrived at our table at 13: 15. If your numbers truly say 25 mins was the longest it took that day, then I think maybe someone has incentive to make your times look faster than they are.

This place has been here for a long time and they need the local support just like every other business. Great spot in Kits, with a liquor store attached that has a great selection. Go!

Ive been here before and havent had any problems until this time.

There was going to be a decent wait for the patio so we opted to stay inside after he (bartender on the lower floor) told us when a seat came available, he would take us up, then waved at the room and said to pick a spot, as he walked away from us, so I didnt even know he said pick a table (wearing a mask, people need to realize that walking away makes it impossible for others to hear you when your back is to them). We waited 15 min for the same bartender to finally come and take a drink order. He delivered the drinks without a word and walked away, and didnt return for another 15 min, this is after passing us several times to take food to other tables and ask others if they needed anything. We finally called out to him as he passed us for the 7th or 8th time, and said we wanted to order food. He took our order. He never came back to ask if we wanted another drink, or how we were doing in the almost hour it took for the food to come. Not. Once. Finally ate and it was delicious, gotta say, kuddos to the cooks cause the food was very good. We finally flagged buddy down to get a bill and while we were waiting for that, another person came to us and said "would you like to move upstairs now? " We had already eaten and were waiting for our bill and had been there 90 min already, whats the point?

I should have gone with my first instinct and not even bothered ordering food after the 15 min of waiting for him to even come to the table, but we were hungry. I expect a wait, with covid, I expect not everything to be running smooth, I get what its like when its busy.that wasnt the case here. I hope next time will be better experience.

Just moved into the area. Was hoping to find a nice local pub. Went with a friend. Cocktail I had was terrible for the $10.00 pricetag and my friends salad she said was not great. She admitted ordering a salad at a pub probably not the best idea. We ordered nachos which had to be sent back. So overdone! New ones came and were terrible. How can you screw up nachos! We were a little annoyed they even served us the first batch they were that bad. Patio nice but can't see over the railing so no view really. Waitress very nice and accomodating about the food. But at the end of the day the food / drinks (cocktails) will not get me back.

Big spacious pub. I especially liked the dark beer. Imperial Coffee Lager.if you like stout beer, you'll love this stuff.

Staff was attentive serving on the patio. However, worst poutine I've ever had; I couldn't even eat it. Poutine gets 1/5 stars.

I got the Canadian burger and poutine, tasted great and used good ingredients. The pretzel bun was a nice touch!

This liquor store is the most expensive in Kitsilano. And the staff is just unprofessional and unfriendly.

Great place, been coming here on and off for the past few years and never disappoints. Brought the gf and she loved the beer selection (stouts/porters). Food is always amazing and the service was awesome. She was very prompt and attentive.

Good food and Nice selection of beers! In this beautiful neighbourhood Kisitano you must not miss this Nice place with comfortable chairs and Nice burgers and fish and chips for example!

Really good food, as bar food goes! I recommend their burgers and their Mac n cheese. Service was not great: (but we eventually got what we needed. The heated rooftop patio is the main draw - it's the best in the area!

Excellent service every time I've been here, whether downstairs or on the patio. I also appreciate that they show CFL games on game day.

The rooftop has a decent view of the mountains and the servers are great. However, the food was a little dissapointing. The chicken sandwich was battered like cod and the whole thing was dry. Also no cider stocked in summer. What's that about!

After 20 minutes of waiting at the bar I was served a drink in a broken glass. It wasn’t a busy night but I was ignored at the bar sitting down with zero acknowledgement from the staff. It they were swamped I would understand, considering there are 6 people at the bar I hoped Ryan would at least make some acknowledgement of my existent.

Great beer selection and a lot of gluten-free options for friends of mine who come with me. Also the patio is by far one of the best.

Great little neighborhood pub in Kitsilano and we enjoyed lunch on the rooftop deck. Food was tasty, IPA was quality, and very friendly and accommodating service from our server.
