I went for their "potion putt" wizardry mini golf event, and I would definitely recommend it! It seemed to be a bit overbooked as we ended up waiting a while for some holes and unfortunately weren't able to get to all of them in our 30-minute allotted time frame. However, the staff were friendly and they had an Alice in Wonderland themed bar that you could grab a drink in before or after your appointment time - the drinks were excellent!

Old world charm! Great service! Good selection of beers on tap and authentic German food. Have the roast pork hock it's the best thing on the menu!

Been here for multiple events, Oktoberfest, Wonderland Cocktails, Potion Putt, etc.and it's always been great. Always a good night out with easy parking in the alley.

I am very pleasantly surprised by the food and staff! My recommendation to everyone who loves pork shank and apple strudel!
04 July 2022 19:05
Excellent pork hocks! I have them so many times and still like them very much. Excellent genuine German beer; I like the dark beer, dunkel bier.

Too bad the club will be closing on July 24,2022. Will have to await for its reopening in a brand new 6-storey residential building in 2025.

I went there on Sunday with my brother and we had the feast for two which was awesome! If you're looking for some authentic German cuisine this is the place to go. It was a very enjoyable meal in a great restaurant ️

My first time having classic German food and it was good. My family and I shared the platter for 4 and added 2 orders of borscht soup, an order of pretzel and fries for the kids. My favourite from the platter was the schnitzel and the pork hock. There was enough for all of us and enough room to try the desserts. We had to try the black forest cake and decided to give the apple strudel and German cheesecake a try. All were very good too.

Dies ist das beste deutsche Restaurant in Vancouver
The service is great and the food is delicious with good portions, I really miss Germany now: (

An amazing Central European Culture Club with a great restaurant serving classic Austro-German cuisine.
06 March 2022 5:39
Service was more than excellent from our server from Frankfurt. Gave us good recommendations on menu items, was super prompt and friendly with service. Answered our questions thoughtfully but also with humour. The saurkraut, meatloaf, pork hock, schnitzel, sausage, poutine were on point. Very flavourful mushroom gravy. Great beer selection as well. Definitely will come back.

We've been coming here since the 80s. Recently, it's always a different level of quality for food.
14 February 2022 0:04
It was a huge potion that both of us cannot finish our dish. But it was very yummy.
Service was good.
Good price and good service.
Thank you.
14 January 2022 21:14
Great place and great food! The service is really nice and you will have a full German experience!
The feast for 4 is definitely more than enough!
14 January 2022 12:33
We had the feast for 2 and wow - this could literally be a feast for 4, we took 1/2 of it home and ate leftovers the next day! The pork hock was - and I don’t want to sound crazy - but like literally pieces of crispy heaven in your mouse. I think I made a weird noise when eating it for the first time cause my tastebuds were confused at all the flavour. Wow. Will be back for sure, what a fun place! It was packed on a Friday night but we managed to snag a table, reservations are recommended. My only complaint is that the seats were very uncomfortable (in my opinion), and the spaeztle was under seasoned and a bit dry (but this might not always be true, they were very busy and it may have been overlooked.) It didn’t bother us though - service was quick and friendly and it really felt like you were on vacation in Germany!
13 January 2022 13:46
The chicken was obviously frozen and the taste was horrible. I don't recommend this place and it's not worth the price you are buying.

I am kind of surprised about the good reviews honestly.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share my thoughts about the food.

I always look forward to meals at this restaurant. Never disappoints.

Best German food in Vancouver.
Go hungry cause those dishes are massive.
Don't be afraid to get the pork hock. It is absolutely amazing.
13 December 2021 0:55
Omg the platter was so good.we barely made a dent in it lol. The soup was amazing! A real slice of Germany in Vancouver. You have to try it at least once. So much meat, so delicious.this was the platter for 4. The beer is also very well priced.do try!

Love this place. Good German food and great service. The real highlight here is the beer. This is one of the few places in Vancouver where you can get a draught beer truly German style: spotless glass with no dishwasher odour and a perfect "blümschen" (a foamy head that lasts past the first couple of sips). After repeat flat beer disappointments at Cactus Club, White Spot and others, I had actually stopped ordering draught beer in Vancouver. What a joy to know I can rely on Alpenclub.
28 November 2021 16:15
Five stars for following COVID-19 safety protocols (I felt very comfortable dining here with lots of space as well), five stars for service (our server was attentive, very friendly, and she had a great sense of humour), 3 stars for some good German beer choices, 2 stars for dated decor, and 3.5 stars for the food. This is my second time here simply because it’s fun to eat here. I’m sure I’ll be back again. The platters are great for carnivores (me) by the way…vegetarians and vegans need to look elsewhere. Portions are on the generous side.
26 November 2021 11:54
This is one of the few places in Vancouver where you can get German food. The staff are friendly and helpful if you're not yet familiar with German dishes. Mostly it's just a fun place to have a German dish and a beer.
09 September 2021 18:56
Who would have thought that a vegetarian could have enjoyed a German restaurant. I absolutely loved the food. I ordered the Vegetarian Strudel. It had a lot of flavor and it was very delicious.
Thank you for making room on your menu for the vegetarians.
02 September 2021 20:20
Been driving by here for more than 20 years and finally got to step inside. There's an old school German feel to the decor and settings.

My wife and I were no stranger to the foods as we toured German, Austria and Vienna not long ago.

The food here is very authentic. Some may claim that the schnitzel has no flavor but we found that to be generally the case with the food in Europe. Others may wonder what the heck saurkraut is but this is what they eat.

I found everything to be delicious and would come back. It can get pricey but the food is unique and there is only one other place in New Westminster that I am aware of that offers these meals.

The hostess and server where very nice and accomodating.
07 August 2021 22:14
Had high hopes. I don't know how this place has so many good reviews. The chicken schnitzel was inedible, the bratwurst only came with one sausage. All in all, a poor experience and poor value. Will not be returning.
05 August 2021 6:44
We ordered one of the feast platters for take out and it came with a lot of food! I would definitely recommend it if you are looking to try a variety of what Deutsches Haus has to offer. However, the food was too salty for me and I wasn't a fan of the sauerkraut.
16 July 2021 18:09
My wife and I had never been here before tonight. When we arrived we we greeted and shown to our table. After looking over the menu we decided on what we were going to have. My wife ordered the Bavarian Pork hock with a side of red cabbage, I decided on the Schnitzel Munich and a beer. Our food arrived in a timely fashion. The problem I ran into was a strand of steel wool in my schnitzel on my fourth bite. I called our server (Tanja) over and pointed this out. She looked at it and agreed it was a strand of steel wool. Tanja took my plate and offered to have a new one made for me. I declined, At this she offered me something else or a dessert. Again I declined. So I sat and watched my wife enjoy her meal witch she said was a 7 out of 10. My wife ordered the Black Forest cake for desert.when we finished our bill was brought over and to compensate they compted the cake and my beer, as well my meal was removed from the bill. So yes Tanja did the right thing. However I was disappointed that the manager did not come over to apologize. The reason I declined any other food choices was because steel wool is used for scrubbing dirty pots and pans, and I was quite disgusted to find it in my Schnitzel. So As for myself I highly doubt I will return for another meal.
14 June 2021 14:52
Great German food and meat platters! They had Hofbrauhaus beer but now have Stiegl Salzburger instead which is close!
01 June 2021 6:31
Awesome, just purely awesome. Tanya always has been very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. Food is excellent, however portions have gotten smaller over the years, but which place isn't? I've ordered many things from their menu and have always enjoyed the food here. Would recommend.
22 April 2021 9:12
The first time I tried the traditional cuisine “pork hock” was on Vancouver Christmas Market in few years ago. Don’t know if that is the traditional taste, but just love it.
18 February 2021 18:10
I simply enjoyed their dishes. I always get fantastic service here. The place is well kept and the employees are always very nice. Will come back again.
02 May 2020 1:43
Been driving here all my life and realized there is a cool German eatery.

Pros:
- food was average. Got the German platter, all meat plate!
- very spacious and long tables for group events

Cons:
- decor is a little dated

Recommendation:
- cool experience in an all Asian area of town!
24 April 2020 16:33
A little disappointing for an well established Vancouver restaurant. The restaurant was busy for a Sunday evening which is always a good sign. I ordered the two person feast to share. It came with hamhock, a variety of sausages and sauerkraut and red cabbage. It wasn't a feast. The portions were small. The schnitzel was crispy as expected. The servers were friendly, but each time they came, they did not refill our water glasses, we needed to ask. Would we come back? Maybe for a schnitzel meal.
05 April 2020 12:12
Authentic German food and experience. Minus two stars for charging for water? ! It's not like this restaurant lost revenue on our table. We ordered appetizers, two platters, desserts and alcoholic drinks.
03 April 2020 6:54
I ordered the pulled pork sliders for delivery on a food app and they arrived looking picture perfect. Taste was amazing, a slight heat to the sauce. Very impressed and would order again.
19 March 2020 5:17
Visited with some good friends. Loved the vibe and Bavarian essence, but was very disappointed with the food. Our schnitzel was pricey and lacked taste. The red cabbage was a sloppy mess. Our burger came with a very measly portion of fries. Not sure I would return based on the price.
15 March 2020 7:23
I'm a noob when it comes to German cuisine and my pal Lydia brought me here for dinner. I booked reso via Yelp for both of us, but it didn't seem necessary when there were plenty of tables around 6PM.

I ordered Schnitzel Munchen ($21.95) and my pal ordered Roulade ($22.95) with Black Forest ($7.95) the food here was great. Schnitzel Munchen was huge. It came with 2 pieces of Schnitzel along with salad, potatoes and dipping sauce. It was so big I ate one piece of Schnitzel and took the leftover to go.

Roulade was great as well. It came with Sauerkraut and Spatzle (white noodles) it was good. Roulade had smaller portion than Schnitzel, but it had more flavours. Both of them were fresh and tasty. Even though Schnitzel was yummy I would've liked it in a crispy batter. Black Forest cake was tasty as well.

Service was attentive and friendly. My German pal taught a short phrase to one of the staff. We had a great conversation about German language. Lastly, my pal and I found some cool workshops/community events by the bulletin, and I appreciated my friend for introducing me to German food.
20 February 2020 17:56
German food isn't the first thing that comes to mind in Vancouver, but when it does, this is my go-to place. Roasted pork knuckle and schnitzel and ice cold beer. Go with a friend and order the sharing platter.
11 February 2020 11:55
Friendly staff, reasonable price, also you can see a variety of German-style artworks hanging on the walls. We came in as a group of four adults and ordered some Wheat Beer and the combo for four people and found we can only finish half of the meat.
29 January 2020 4:44
I admire this place very much. It has a different feeling. The cuisine is superb.the service is dynamic and the waiters are courteous. The price is satisfactory.greatly recommend.
07 January 2020 23:21
German food. Some weeks the schnitzels are excellent, some weeks its a dried out shoe sole. Depends on who is in the kitchen. The pork shank is always a sure bet, and its excellent. Also recommend the meatloaf, and the sausage platter appetizer. Their rouladen is excellent and always dependably great.
04 January 2020 8:13
Authentic and fantastic German food that is not easy to find in Vancouver. Friendly servers. Spacious and yet intimate ambience makes me want to go back gain and again.
29 November 2019 8:42
If you like a good German dining experience, this is one of the few places you can go in the Vancouver area. As this area gets taken over by other Demographics, this place has still remained running. Nice beer selection, and food is very much like being in Germany. The ambiance inside makes you feel as though you are in a Gast House.
18 November 2019 4:00
This place is terrible for anyone who is vegan or vegetarian. I had to order side orders of vegetables that contained a mix of steamed broccoli cauliflower and carrots.they came mushy and gross like they were frozen or just way over-cooked. The cabbage and sauerkraut was also mushy and gross.

My other friends whowere there with me seemed to really enjoy their schnitzel, sausage and cheese noodles.

The waitress was great though. She check for me to see if there's anything I could eat at the restaurant.

I definitely would not eat here again. The menu looked pretty expensive considering the atmosphere and what food you got for your money.
19 September 2019 23:13
If you're looking for great german food, this it. Schnitzel, spaetzle, pretzels, goulash soup, and more. Also check out the club for traditional activities. Bring 4 people for the platter for 4, you won't be disappointed. Not many vegan options, though, to be honest. Prost!
10 June 2019 12:01
This is the best restaurant I have ever been in Vancouver. Especially, 'Feast for 2' was great and yummy. I am Korean, and this was my first german restaurant. So, I cannot compare with real german located restaurant, but the taste of the sausages and haxen with the three kinds of sauces was wonderful.
Furthermore, the old lady server (maybe owner?) was very kind and nice. She explained which one is what and how to eat.
I am so sad that I cannot give 6 stars for this. Maybe I should decrease my other 5 stars review to 4 stars. Because of this restaurant, I felt that I want to go to Germany to try many German food.
I definitely will come again with my friends, and highly recommand for everybody.
16 May 2019 4:35
Excellent schnitzel dinners. Cozy atmosphere. Good beer. Friendly staff. NOTE: : : It's probably a good idea to phone ahead to check if there is a special event in progress. Sometimes the event is a special, possibly private one and thus saves showing up and being turned away.
09 May 2019 10:17
As a german living in Vancouver this is an absolute highlight. The food tastes authentic, the service is friendly and the ambience is very german (except the ceiling).

So if you're german and you're living here or visiting, this will probably be a pleasent surprise in terms of german cuisine. When I feel homesick I will definitely go there.
01 May 2019 20:08
The night we were there the bartender was late to work, which meant the person serving tables had to spend time behind the bar. The server was new so didn’t know ordering / billing systems, which combined, took time away from taking orders and getting them to the tables. But the server handled all this with grace and manners. The food was also amazing! I can’t wait to go back
29 April 2019 4:12
I moved from (south) Germany to Vancouver three years ago, and always when I miss Germany I’m coming here. Food is the best German food you can get in Vancouver. And the German cheesecake is almost as good as my moms. Price are very good and even better on Schnitzel-Tuesday.
11 April 2019 23:47
The food was quite good. We ordered the feast for 2 and for $44, we received a decent amount of meat. However, for the price of the dishes, I thought the service was mediocre.
21 March 2019 10:19
Service and meals were tasty and portions generous. Served promptly by a professional server. Food hot and beer cold. Price point is very fair. Live music and dancing on certain days. Will return as soon as possible.
22 February 2019 20:33
The restaurant is situated in the basement of a German culture club. The environment is like a crudely decorated pub. Despite serving authentic German dishes, they quality was sub par. My pork hock was flavourless inside, and extremely chewy on the outside. Others in my group had various snitzel and pasta dishes and they were equally flavourless and disappointing.
19 January 2019 10:55
Came here for a large group dinner. The servers were attentive and always made sure we had everything we needed. Most of us ordered the feast for 2 to share between couples. It comes with 2 sausages and 2 piece of meatloaf which were so delicious and flavorful. Also on the platter was 2 schnitzels and half pork hock which was just OK. Schnitzel was kind of dry and the pork hock skin was very chewy. They have their own parking lot, so plenty of parking spaces.

Taste: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Value: 3/5
14 January 2019 9:57
Great European food. Me and my friends had Feast for 4 - schnitzel, sausages, baked pork, cabbage and noodles. What a great plate to share with friends over a good beer.

Nothing fancy, bit old-fashioned but good pub atmosphere.

Friendly and professional waitress.

Look forward to coming back soon.

One day I watched Kitchen Nightmares and this restaurant came to my mind. The staff is 3.5 out of 5. Beer is 4 out of 5. Food is 1 out of 100. We came on feast Wednesday. We didn't even finished half. The ham is salty and oily. The pork is dried and cooked at least 10 hours ago before serving or longer.
I believe it was a good restaurant because of reviews and crowds in restaurant. But I would say most of people come here for beer and not young.
