Don at Kitsilano

This place is excellent.

It's not big but they make the most out of it with a nice setup and a beautiful atmosphere and decor.

The food is great. The salmon tartare sublime! They have a fix price menu for brunch that can be shared for 60 dollars that consists on a small appy, a bigger appy, a main one and dessert. Great pricing for the quality.

Totally recommended. Have been there twice and it's already in my fav top5 in Vancouver.

For 2 people we got 1 Prix Fixe and 1 main, it was quite filling because the food heavier than expected. My favourite was the Aburi Salmon Belly Don although I found the mushroom rice 20% too salty for my taste buds but otherwise perfect dish with the dashi. Similarly the Chili Crunch Fried Chicken was also a bit too salty and too sweet — I’d need like double the amount of coconut rice to balance it out — I should’ve picked a different dish. I enjoyed the cured salmon tartare with the white crispy shrimp crackers — even though I found the salmon also on the salty side, but it’s understandable since it’s cured.
I was kind of disappointed with the Hojicha Pecan Pastry as I didn’t taste any Hojicha flavour in it like the name suggests — the texture was good but now I wish I had ordered the White Rabbit Creme Brûlée instead.

Overall I’d still recommend this restaurant since their menu is unique and interesting and the staff is friendly. Maybe include more acidic elements in the “heavier” dishes so that it’s easier to eat more of it

The place is very cute. The food is very pretty. But the service is not pleasant.

When you order coffee, it takes forever to wait for the refill even you ask twice. When you finish your water, waitress will not refill it without you asking. You have to ask for milk/crème/sugar if you want, because server won’t ask you. Two plain coffee will be served if you do not ask. After you ask, they only give one tiny order of milk for even more than one customer. It was very awkward because we feel embarrassed to ask for more and we had to keep waiting for everything while people came afterwards get things quicker. I feel I was not welcomed to be there.
Also the server missed some of our orders. Did not give a receipt with all items listed for us to check. We just packed the food and left early.

My suggestion for the store is to hire staff with more related work experience. Or simply just visit a popular restaurant and observe for better customer experience.

In conclusion, food is very pretty, the store is very cute, taste is acceptable, but service is a disappointment.

Surprisingly, the restaurant is named Don but there isn’t any Don (Japanese rice bowl) in the entire menu.

Nice and quiet place. The word is nice and well manner.
The food is so tasty, every flavor exploits in your mouth in a unique way.
Unfortunately they didn't serve the chocolate cake any more

Good brunch service, bread was delicious!
The salmon tartare was my favourite.

Decor was very well designed.
