Had an excellent experience choosing plants for my shadey window boxes, was given plant options and care advice, a well rounded experience entirely. Will definitely be back!

Lots of fun today! Photos with the Grinch, snacks and voting on elementary school decorated Christmas trees.

Two months ago we spent over $500 for 4 trees from down to earth nursery. 3 of the 4 trees are doing fine. One of them is obviously dying. Since then, our experience with down to earth, in particular, Kelly Chashai, has been reminiscent of Monty Python’s Dead Parrot skit. At the time of purchase, we were told to remove the burlap sack before planting. When we removed the tree from the pot not only was there no burlap sack there was virtually no root ball. Just a lump of clay the size of a small soup bowl. Keep in mind this is a 4 foot tree. After numerous accusing and annoying responses to our email questions, Kelly’s last response was “it was healthy when it left here…call an arborist”. Like the dead parrot in the Monty Python skit, nailed to its perch, this tree was kept on life support until they could unload it on some unsuspecting customer.

Unlike the other reviews posted here, ours is for the construction of a deck. We called DTE to quote a retaining wall for our down-sloping backyard. We heeded their advice to avoid this, as the root system for a Garry Oak tree could have been damaged. Plan B was a deck. DTE was very helpful in quoting the project at different sizes and using different materials. We were hung up on the composition of the deck, as I wanted no maintenance, so wood was out. We considered composites, and then settled on Lanai Outdoor Decking. This is a PVC short length (48" x 4 1/2") plank material made in Edmonton that ticked all our boxes: won't fade, bend, lift, scratch, or get too hot in the sun, and it's recyclable.
Trevor is a skilled carpenter, and he produced a rock-solid and attractive deck with full skirting that we are very pleased with. DTE used Victoria Railings for that aspect of the job, and the finished product will give us years of pleasure.
We recommend Down to Earth for deck construction.

Absolutely love Down to Earth! We bought our Christmas tree and wreath there last year, and look forward to getting this years from there as well. My husband also loved chatting with Kelly and Eko about our landscape plans as well; very informative and helpful. Highly recommended!

I have loved this nursery for a while now and these Begonia baskets are the talk of our neighbourhood.
I don’t know what to replace them with for the winter.

Down to Earth Nursery has gone above and beyond to help us with our garden and to ensure we were satisfied. When I worked alongside the crew, they were knowledgeable, kind and caring. They took every measure to keep our property clean during the use of heavy machinery and they even added extra mulch to our front garden which we never asked them to do, free of charge. Our garden is flourishing. I have even contacted them regarding pruning inquiries and they have been more than willing to help answer my questions. I would not hesitate to recommend this nursery to anyone. Thank you again for helping us create the yard of our dreams.

From initial design (on a tight budget), to laying of underground sprinklers, adding lush flowerbeds, grass and fencing - we were impressed with the process from beginning to end. We have a newly built home that came with no landscaping - a moonscape, at best. Down to Earth worked with us on every detail, and were in good humour even when we requested some last minute alterations! Of course, we have shopped at Down to Earth for years, and the service and quality of work continue to deserve our loyalty.

They have a fantastic selection of plants and their staff are very helpful. I needed plants for my small garden and the lovely woman who works there helped me pick out the best arrangement for the space and what little area I have.

My husband and I purchased 4 white winter heathers for a new flower bed in our garden 3 weeks ago. We planted them in the same flower bed, and after a few days, it was obvious that one of the plants wasn't thriving like the others. After three weeks, it just looked dead. I took a couple of pictures for comparison, dug it up and went back to this nursery.

They state very clearly that they don't do returns/exchanges because of "soil pathogens, " i.e. The blame is on the customer if a plant dies, not the nursery for selling a diseased or unhealthy plant.

The manager was called (the same woman we purchased the plants from 3 weeks prior and she remembered us). I explained to her the situation and showed her my pictures. All 4 plants received the same amount of care, equal soil conditions, sun, etc, but this one was dead. In spite of their stated return policy, it would have done them a world of good to accept that they sold an inferior plant and replaced it.

She stated that no, there were no returns or exchanges because of "soil pathogens" and they didn't want to contaminate the rest of their plants. She then handled this plant gingerly. We told her we didn't want the plant back, as it was dead and its obvious the other three plants in the same bed were healthy.

As we walked back to our car (and she was walking the same way to dispose of the plant, I told her, "This plant was unhealthy. " She then snapped back at me, "Well, maybe your dog peed on it! " My husband told her she had no right to make assumptions about us and that we would never be returning.

Her comment about our dog (we had mentioned we had a small female dog 3 weeks before) was rude, uncalled for and ironic, given that she was being followed around by one large dog and a smaller dog herself. Even more ironic is that they have a sign at the entrance stating, "No Dogs Allowed. " So perhaps they're selling unhealthy plants that have been marked by their own dogs.

Any nursery that refuses to guarantee their products is one we won't be shopping at, or recommending. This is a local business competing with other local nurseries and big box stores. We'll take our money there from now on.
