I recently started attending fitness classes at the Edmonds CC. The CC offers a good variety of classes to fit most age groups and personal needs/likes. The classes are good, fun, they start on time and the instructors are very good, nice and friendly. I was hoping to use their exercise room. That however has not been possible. The exercise room is small and jam packed with equipment which makes it more difficult to get around. Secondly, the facility is co-ed. Nothing wrong with that. Except that its users tend to be high school young males that sometimes work out in groups which translates into having to wait long periods of time to be able to use a particular piece of equipment. Some of us do not have a lot of time to go to exercise and the last thing we want to do is wait for a group of friends taking too long using a piece of equipment. The exercise room is definitely not mature people friendly. I also have to say it does not smell clean, not even when it is not busy, filled with people. It is disappointing not being able to use this facility which I am supposed to be able to do, because of the above reasons. It will be nice if management look into ways of improving this service since we pay for it. Last but not least and this is perhaps what bothers me the most and the reason for the rating. That reason is the POOR Customer service offered on a regular basis in this CC. With few exceptions, lots of their reception desk representatives are either rude or show very poor customer service skills while dealing with customers. Some look absolutely bored, uncaring. Others are plain rude. Few nights ago I went to renew my monthly pass and was greeted by "What do you want? ". I was shocked. I had some questions to ask regarding the pass and a yearly membership. Again, I was asked in a exasperating tone: "What is it that you want? ". I finally managed to ask 2 simple questions which were answered with absolute disdain and a sense of unnecessary urgency because they were not busy. The person was more interested in yelling to a kid that was leaving, not to bounce his basketball inside, than being courteous and helpful. I had honestly contemplated getting the annual membership since, despise the issues with the exercise room and the crazy busy at times parking lot, I have enjoyed the fitness classes and the fact that is conveniently close, I thought I would still go for the annual membership which, it is not cheap, let me tell you that. After that poor, rude customer service, I changed my mind. I know they probably won't mind/care about losing a customer, they have lots of them nonetheless. I also know chances are they won't read any of this which is too bad because that will only allowed or make more room for poor services towards the locals, visitors and the general public. And that is not right nor acceptable. I had used their services in the past. Some years have passed since. A new facility but same old issues. Too bad.

As a woman doing strength training, I regularly use just about every part of this gym on different days.
I have been coming here on and off for the past 4 years
It is getting way to packed at a time in such a small space and everyone even the workers can feel and see that. Not enough equipment to keep everyone happy, and super annoying when there's a group of teenagers hanging on 1 machine for half a session.
Consider goingback to covid days where you had to pre book your slot for up to 2 hours at a time otherwise upgrade your facility. It's getting ridiculous

All the stuff are good except one. Very Disappointed.

Today, The black beard guy wearing supervisor T-shirt in the swimming pool approached me from the pool in an offensive way which is very disrespectful. His tone was offensive and Uncultured. After these behaviour, I just changed my dress and cancelled my yearly package membership right away.

But the other supervisor is professional and gentle. He explained me about my kid safety issue politely.

Requesting to the management to follow up with him, how to approach Or He can learn from other supervisor about approaching.

Music is too loud, chaotic, lifeguards aren't doing their jobs, swim lanes are a mess and they aren't doing a very good job keeping the decks or changerooms clean. Vancouver pools are far superior.

Favourite staff is Shayma, she helps resolve any issues and is super friendly. She always has a smile which is always nice to see.

I am appalled by the abysmal level of customer service I encountered during my visit to the Edmonds Community Center. The reception staff's behavior was shockingly rude and unprofessional, leaving me deeply disappointed.

Upon entering the facility, I interacted with three women at the reception who seemed to have no regard for basic courtesy. They spoke to me as if I was invisible, displaying a complete lack of respect. Even my father, who accompanied me, was taken aback by their dismissive attitude.

To make matters worse, when I sought assistance and asked questions, one staff member responded with unnecessary rudeness. Instead of providing helpful answers, she condescended to me, leaving me feeling flustered and disheartened. But that was not the end of it.

During the process of having my picture taken for the center's pass, the person behind the camera had the audacity to make an uncalled-for comment. They remarked, "You look a lot serious in the picture. " When I politely requested a retake, their response was dismissive, saying, "It's okay; we like to capture the true personality of people. "

This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable. The primary responsibility of the reception staff should be to assist visitors and create a welcoming environment, not to pass judgment on people's appearances or make derogatory comments. I expected better treatment from a community center.

I sincerely hope that the management of the Edmonds Community Center takes this review seriously and initiates necessary actions to rectify the situation. The reception staff urgently needs training on basic customer service skills and proper communication. If they are unable to fulfill their roles or dislike interacting with people, they should reconsider their suitability for positions that require constant public interaction.

As a paying visitor, I believe it is crucial to raise awareness about the appalling customer service I experienced. Future visitors should not have to endure such a negative encounter. It is my hope that improvements are made promptly, ensuring a respectful and welcoming environment for all.

Its a great family fun place with all kinds of courses, gym, swimming pool, cafe, kids rooms and much more! Too many things to do plus great huge park with gorgeous garden, cycling area, walking pathway, soccer field, tennis courts and outdoor hoops.

Pool is well designed and the staff are very friendly and helpful, but the change rooms are dirty.

It’s also disrespectful to charge a fee (however small) to use the lockers that are part of the change room infrastructure, and for which an entrance fee was already paid. Some community centres now waive the locker fee.

Great community center for local. Lots of facilities and activities inside. The indoor swimming pool is huge, nice atmosphere of the building.
28 March 2023 9:48
I love the steam room and the people but the staff can't give me 4 quarters for 4 people to use the lockers. I was told by one staff its the other staff who don't want or know how to count. Come on now why charge for quarters if u expect me to do 2 transactions to pay for my visit. Not only that when I plead with some staff they look down on me n talk rude. Why is this such a barrier to enjoy a workout n a dip

Bout a membership to engage swimming lessons. When the weather is getting nicer and want to use a swimming pool, the center closes swimming pool. Never finish repairing and very disappointed. They took money from public but ignored to reopen a swimming pool when the weather is getting warm. Some staff at the counter are very rude when they were asked pool opening timeline. Please do repair quickly.

Pool staff are not friendly. I’ve been to other community centres but so disappointed at our local community centre in Burnaby. Some coaching might help future customer issues.
01 June 2022 14:22
Horrible Customer service. Staff are not friendly at all. This facility is built with tax payers money. Please have a mature person to supervisor and manager this place better. Andrew at the pool area claims to be the supervisor needs to improve his communication skills and learn how to deal with members and customers.

My kids had a wonderful time here, they especially love the water slides and the friend pool staff. The only complaint was the shower, it was only warm for a few minutes before it got cold and stalls are somewhat dirty.
16 May 2022 19:25
Tried to call to register a program that doesn't let me register online. The phone system will not connect you to a human it just hangs up on you. I've already been in person and they told me to register online but it won't let me. Very frustrating

Fun pool for families! Great for weekends because they are open to the public for longer hours than other pools in burnaby
06 April 2022 12:34
We come here for the pool and it is by far the best on this side of Vancouver. The water is warm. The design is beautiful and fun. Plenty of showers and the water is the perfect temperature. Staff is incredibly friendly. Even when crowded there is a lot to do. The best pool in Burnaby by far.
21 February 2022 7:33
Great pool!

Best in Burnaby for sure! I know its the newest so hopefully the other pools can be renovated to the same level as Edmonds.

My only piece of feedback is that the family changeroom is a bit small for the amount of patrons. I enjoy the family changeroom at ED Pool better. More spacious, and benches in the common area make it easier for changing.

Got the worst person on the phone. She was completely rude. Talking like a complete Karen. Don’t even bother.
30 November 2021 7:30
Horrible gym, do not care about gym goers and cannot problem solve at all. Overpriced, save your money and go to Club16 or Goodlife Fitness, the staff and gym goers here prevent you from lifting weight to your best - like a Planet Fitness
18 July 2021 12:12
It is an exceptional Recreational Community Centre so very busy. There are all kinds of programs, gymnasiums, pools, activity rooms, meeting rooms, and the Workout room is the largest I've ever seen, and I've worked out in about twelve different cities.
29 April 2021 6:13
I really like the pool there. Pretty much everything is COVID-friendly. But at the entrance of the pool, I think that the employees should tell people to social distance in the water. Sometimes people just bump into your back.
27 November 2020 5:14
When I call to reserve spot, depending on who picks up the phone some of the staff are rude or sound very unpleasant and unfriendly.
11 November 2020 5:16
Awesome pool and clean atmosphere, such friendly staff. I highly recommend the pool is you have a little free time time.
15 October 2020 11:15
I was in the pool today{1;15-2: 15] when a young person got in trouble. Two guards were in the pool in second and a third got a life belt in water. Good job. The interesting thing was watching the other guards move around the pool to make sure everyone else was still protected. Good to see how well they all worked together. Al Pettigrew

Just giving the opinion of a swimmer. This is not a swimming pool, water temperature so high that it becomes dangerous to exercise. And chlorine levels are very high. I’ve been swimming for most of my life competitively and never had any trouble with chlorine rashes. Before COVID pandemic though, after a few months swimming here, I started developing severe chlorine rashes on my eyes. During the shutdown they finally healed. Then in the summer I went to Kitsilano Pool and no trouble with chlorine rashes. When that closed I came a couple of times again here at Edmonds, and again chlorine rashes. And there is no COLD water in the building to rinse and wash that out.there are positive things to say, staff is friendly, building is new and clean and accessible, but cannot go there anymore for above reasons.

Vandana at the front desk could not muster up the bare minimum of customer courtesy today. For a city worker I expect just a bit more professionalism than what i received. Shockingly bad service. She was about as useless as a concrete parachute. The debit terminal read that there was a system error during my refund. She blamed it on my bank (Canada Trust) and the proceeded to blame it on my debit card. She gave me zero options other than to call my bank, which i thought was ridiculous since there has no issues with my debit card in the 25 years I've been with TD. The words 'System Error' usually means its not my bank or my cards issue. 15 minutes later after being on hold with my bank which i knew was a waste of time a young girl told me that I can try another City of Burnaby facility. I said 'thank you very much for the options and trying to solve this issue'. I left and went to Bonsor Recreation and recieved my refund. The polite and helpful people at Bonsor told me there was never a system issue because it would have been at all the City of Burnaby facilities. Thanks for wasting 2 hours of my Saturday Vandana. Thank you to the other girl who gave me at least another option to get my refund.

Nice little community center. There are lots of activities can be done. Less people in the morning weekdays. Pool with chlorine, as usual. Quartet needed to use a locker. Same as everywhere.

Coming from Richmond, the pool was pleasantly warm compared to Watermania. This was great as my daughter comes close to hypothermia at Watermania. I would say the Wave Pool there keeps the kids entertained for longer than the lazy river they have here, though. My main issue with the pool here are the change rooms. This is a big deal for any family. There isn't enough space. They have dedicated too much space to the Universal change rooms only to have individuals occupy a lot of the space here. I wondered why.until my wife and I split up with the kids and the Mens and Women's room are disgustingly small so only 5ish people can get changed at a time. There were 7 when I was there so I will let you use your imagination how that was.
13 April 2020 4:49
The universal change room was empty but the women's change room was full of young boys who identify as male, extremely uncomfortable.women's change room should be for women/those who identify as such only.

Quite interesting to say the least, One of the only indoor pools in the lower mainland hat actually has good watersides. But don't get too carried away this isn't Cultus Lake Water Park now, but it does have it's strong points. Although the change rooms and locker space are very disgusting, the pool is pretty good. The best part of the pool is the lazy river which I consider to be more of a family space, it's kind of annoying if it gets crowded though and all the younger children jump in front of your GoPro. The hot tub is very large, but appears too cold for the adults so sometimes there is children in there but it is a very calm space. There is lap swimming, of which I don't go into and I never see any other children in there accept when they open the bigger space for the inflatable obstacle course or let everyone go in the space opened to two lanes. I would suggest coming here on a week day even though that's when all the old white people rage in. 3/5 for an "okay" pool experience, as for the rest of the community center, I'm not sure its very new and nice though but I have no interest to go through the rest of the community center.

The only pool in Burnaby that has public swimming every day! Pool is clean and organized. Loonie and family swim night can be super busy. There’re women, men and family shower/change room. Only complaint for me is too much chlorine and parking can be crazy in the morning. I took adult swimming class here and found it to be very good! Our whole group really like our instructor, Ziad! He’s patience, helpful in building our confident, while letting us work at our own comfort level and pace. Most of us were comfortable in the deep end after 1 class (7 sessions). I also did aqua fit here a few times. Semar (? Spelling?), the on call instructor, is really good. Overall, great pool for kids and adults.

We have been here quite a few times and have had a wonderful time. Very family friendly. The kids and us love the slides.
27 December 2019 15:22
They have a Tea & Tour, the staff is very helpful & friendly. So much available it's hard to decide what to choose. I was told though, that there are desparate people that steal belongings. So either leave things at home or in the locker.

There is no instructions of late policy of the fitness class. Neither the website nor the front desk. I was late for the fitness class when I made the payment of my pass, but no one told me that I was unable to attend class. After I joined the class, one of the staff just interrupt the class and told me that I was late so I was unable to attend class due to the policy. I was so embarrassed that everyone was looking at me and I have no idea about the policy. I just walked out of the class. I understand that the community center staffs may be volunteers and they haven't paid to give us instructions but it's better to make the policy to be visible on the website or front desk.

The sitting area is so far away and the pool is tiny, fun to play but not for lesson. I was expecting to watch my daughter’s swimming progress but we couldn’t even see her from the waiting area. Thanks for nothing

In the portal, Student (19-25) can discount the fee but person in the desk told ma there is no discount for +18. WTH.i paid more.
20 January 2019 11:04
Nice swimming pool, could be a bit bigger. There is a steem room, sauna and jacuzzi is right beside the swimming pool. If you are there for a good swim this is not a place for you, but for the kids is awesome place. Also there is a big Gym, basketball, volleyball courts, you cam play table tennis etc. Receptionist are very impolite and on a few occasions they didn't know how to do the job.
19 January 2019 18:12
The weight room is very spacious, and the equipment is all good. Sometimes it gets busy so all the benches are taken, but usually after a while you can grab one. Same goes for machines. Taking 1 star off because the showers by the pool are really inconsistent. Sometimes they'll spray a good amount hot water, sometimes a little, and sometimes they'll be freezing for 2-3 minutes which makes for a very unpleasant time. The design of the shower cubicles is weird too, there's always a ton of water on the floor.
