Elk Falls Provincial Park and Protected Area

We were fortunate to stop by when BC Hydro was letting water out of the Dam so the falls were impressive. The trail down to the falls is easy without too many obstacles, but the stairs might be an issue for those with mobility issues.

The river and old growth are beautiful but you won’t find much solitude in this very busy park. And the heavy machinery working on the dams, pipelines, towers, and power lines are a good reminder that parks and heavy industry are incompatible.

Did the Millennium trail in the Elk Falls provincial park that goes all along the river and the Elk Falls. At Thai time of the year, we got to see thousands of salmon spawning in the river. Amazing experience.

There are so many trails all through the park, you also have cell phone service through most of it. Dog friendly with many easy walks.

Nice nature park to go for a quick walk. Spectacular waterfall with views from swing bridge.

Great little hike along the river and a walk on suspension bridge with views of the falls.

It was snowing on the doorstep, and Kit made a cake for himself. While frying, until the peak,
And the cake was dripping with water. The cat didn't know that the cake needs dough, not snow.

Large campsites, moderately priced. Good amount of privacy. Clean pit toilets. We saw salmon running in the river next to the campground. Trails were nice and the falls are gorgeous. Only thing I didn’t like is that there appears to be no camp host on site; there are great staff but we only saw them through during the day. At night, most sites had campfires going despite the burn ban.
Also wonderful: easy access to Campbell River’s bike trails, waterfront and brewpubs, and not far from Strathcona Provincial Park!

Lovely place to visit to check out the falls and suspension bridge - great for all ages. Facilities are well kept and ample parking for cars and RVs.

The highlight is the suspension bridge and the waterfall.

Such a beautiful little walk. Not far, can be lots of stairs though! The views are so worth it.

We hiked 10 kms, you can park your car for free at different places to join different paths. There is a suspension bridge where you can see a water falls. We saw a black bear and her babies. There are also many salmons, you do not need to fish to see them. Amazing moment. It really worth to hike there.

Serene, beautiful and peaceful. The trails are one of the most beautiful I have ever gone through.

Nice park!

Large parking lot and close to Campbell river. There are pit toilets in the parking lot (so don't look into them). There is also info center. On the advice of the information center, we also followed a route with very old trees that also survived the fire of 1936 in addition to the Suspension bridge

Very well maintained trails and beautiful view of the waterfall. Plenty of parking. Busy but not crowded. Well marked trails. Suspension bridge was cool and gave a great view of the falls. Highly recommend the hike. Relatively flat with a few up/downs. Beautiful and huge trees that are very cool to see!

Very nice. The park is like a fairy tale. The waterfall is magical and so big. A very wonderful bridge.

If you make it up to Campbell River then you must visit the falls. Lots of hiking trails around the falls

Went to see Elk Falls, and it was amazing well worth the trip even if it was a short trip for me.

Easy access, not a very long hike
It's just a short walk to the suspension bridge from the parking lot.

Great hike back to the falls! Campground was nice as well. There's one flush toilet by the RV dump station

Great place to go outside and get some fresh air. The scenery was beautiful and the trails are easy to walk if you are a casual hiker. There are more advanced trails but due to the rain we stay on the nice walking paths.

A beautiful protected area with a trekking path that is worth walking in its entirety (about an hour's walk) in the middle of nature and ferns. You reach the finish line, the waterfall to watch on the suspension bridge. Very nice!
