The park is a perfect spot for picnicking, with several tables placed in scenic locations. While there are no extensive facilities, the natural beauty and tranquility more than compensate. The park's serenity makes it an ideal place for those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. However, visitors should be prepared for limited cell service and remember to bring water and snacks.
Love this place. I've been several times and it's always a beautiful hike. I don't have to worry about it because it's always very cold but sometime I will go with better weather.
You can see arbutus trees here! Take a left once you're over the high bridge over the waterfall. We took our time, and did the whole loop around the waterfall in about 40 minutes
This is upstream from the falls. Wonderful place and the falls are certainly worth seeing. The views from the bridges are photogenic as you'll recognise from the tourists asking you to snap a few for them.
Had a great time camping here. Large shaded lots. We fit a 21ft trailer and large tent, and parked 2 vehicles. Pit toilets close by. Great playground and pump track in the campground. Biking trails everywhere The Falls are beautiful and swimming in the river was great.
A short hike (1.5km) on groomed trails. A swimming hole at the south end of the trail, and water and washroom facilities in the day use area. Camping is available at the provincial campground door.
Great hiking location. Easy path for waliing. Trails are well marked and there are maps along the way. Upper falls is amazing. At the bottom end of the trail there is some nice areas to swim and cool off. This is also a great starting point for some longer hikes along the river. There is a picnic area here as well as clean bathrooms. We packed a lunch and ate at the picnic tables.
Really nice waterfall and scenery. Great place to camp or just go for a walk. Must cross pretty high bridge over water. Not recommended for anyone that is scared of heights.
Great relatively easy hike around. Really easy to get to the falls. Has bathrooms near the parking lot. Great place to visit. Take the kids along, just make sure they're out of strollers and can manage a walk around. My 5 year old did fine.
My parents and grandparents used to take me here when I was very young. I had vague memories of it. Once I started down the trail to the lower falls I was blasted with very vivid memories of time spent here over 50 years ago! Such a beautiful amazing place ️
I have been to this park many times over many years, both to camp and sometimes just to wander. It is a beautiful place any time of the year.
The campsites are large and well spaced. Ours had been cleaned and raked and was close to water and washrooms (which were very clean). The playground was also near by.
The River itself was still quite and very cold. The water was crystal clear and so beautiful- the colour was amazing.
Beautiful spot, have visited the falls before as a day trip a few times. But, this was our first time camping. Very clean and well taken care of campground.
Beautiful and short stroll. Lower falls has a wonderful swimming hole. The campground is quite nice and quiet after 9 pm due to sensible generator hours and constant and polite security rounds.
We were here after the sunset and there was no one around. You can hear the falls as you start your way to falls from the parking which is just 5 minutes away. A great stope over!
I am so glad we made a stop here. It was a short walk to the beautiful falls and a lovely saunter in the forest, the terrain was easy to navigate with some stairs along the way and the scenery was magical. There are also bathrooms available and they offer plenty of parking in the lot. Would definitely recommend.
A nice, safe pathway to enjoy the majestic falls if you follow the signs from parking lot. The more adventurous can find trails to their capabilities as well. Beautiful area to explore
Beautiful spot. Campsite is family oriented, sites decently well spaced out to allow a bit of privacy/separation, but nearby sites are still visible. The falls are a short walk from the campsite.
I hadn't been to the falls since I was a child and was shocked at how low the water level was. Climate change has impacted the area to the point that a swimming hole no longer exists and a look out point has collapsed.
Nice place. The falls were mesmerizing, the stream down was a good walk with a nice cold ending for people to splash into. I would recommend for anyone who likes cold water and tiny hikes.
Great short little walk/loop. Starts off steep with lower falls and loops up and over to upper falls and back to the car. Bring a long and wide lenses ;-)
It's a play on words. I read falls, and thought that I would see water falls, but no, the river water falls, into an area where you can't get to. However, awesome place for swimming, and taking the kids!
Sooooo beautiful. Out of the way and worth the drive everytime. Well maintained trails that take you along the banks of the river. Clean facilities spread throughout the area. Breathtaking photo ops!
Falls view is within few minutes walk from the parking lot so you don't have to do the whole trail if you don't want to. Washrooms were clean. Trail is maintained well.
Heard about this park many times, first time there. Beautiful. Nice walk, well maintained trails. The falls are amazing and with the bridge spanning them you get some picturesque views. Definitely plan to take my visiting family members there. Saw people walking their dogs there so plan to try that also.
I just love this place for its beauty and there's a suspension bridge and a waterfall that should not be missed and there's great walking trails and another bridge to go across at the other end so it's just an amazing place
Spectacular views of a massive waterfall surrounded by lush plant life and massive towering trees all along the Englishman River. The waterfall is easily accessible, you can head straight from the parking area to the foot bridge in less than 5 minutes or you can head down the hiking path which leads to the bottom of the falls, crosses at the bottom of the river and leads back up to the foot bridge at the top of the falls in less than an hour. The water flow varies depending on rainfall and can change dramatically within days. It’s especially dramatic when the river is high after rainfall.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and it's a beautiful area to visit at any time of year. You can also swim at water hole near the lower falls if you like nerve-numbing cold water to swim.
Englishman River falls is a gorgeous little loop - only about 1.5 km in total, and little-to-no elevation gain. This is perfect for all members of the family!
There are two sets of falls (although the lower falls aren't massive) with some beautiful viewpoints. It's both dog friendly and close to town, which means there are plenty of dog walkers out enjoying the scenery. Great if you love dogs, not so great if you don't (or if you have a dog-reactive dog like mine).
We went in the pouting rain and loved it, but it was quite busy. I'd guess that the summer months must see a lot of traffic (there was a sign highlighting the damage from too many off-trail explorers), but I also bet there would be some pretty spectacular swimming holes to cool off in too.
The showcase of British Columbia. Englishman River Falls Provincial Park encompasses all of BC’s famous beauty in one walkable loop.
Just 20 or so minutes outside of Nanaimo, located in the rustic and quaint town of Errington, Englishman River Falls is a perfectly maintained trail system perfect for most looking to see some of the most incredible falls and forest that B. C.has to offer.
You can park in the day use lot (directions are well signed), and walk 5 minutes to the bridge over the main falls (pictured). Dogs on a leash are welcome all throughout the park.
The full loop can take a couple hours, with many benches and picnic tables along the way to rest, if needed.
The lower falls during the summer months is a popular swimming hole, with pebble beaches along the shores of the lower pools. These pictures are in the month of January, so please be careful along the shores and slippery rocks.
Directly from the day use parking lot you can choose lower falls or upper falls. Both trails will eventually lead into each other, with signage available at entrance locations.
If you choose the lower loop, just be aware that the trail down is steeper, so if you have mobility issues this could be more of a challenge.
During the summer months the washrooms are open (and well maintained). During the winter months there are outhouses available near the upper falls entrance.
Highly recommend that you make the trip to visit this picturesque location. While not a challenging hike, the scenery will make up for it in spades.
Another great place to enjoy a short hike. A bit of a hike back up if you go to the lower falls but it's a beautiful trip so take your time. Best in winter months when water flow is high. If you're near Parksville or Coombs, go.
This is a fabulous park - the waterfalls are stunning, and the river is amazing! We particularly liked walking in the shallows further downstream from the falls, and setting up our own mini inukshuks.
Really an amazing nature walk. The pathway is kinda steep in places but the scenery is worth it. I am amazed at the work it took to construct the path. We enjoy it everytime we come here.
Hard to access if you have mobility problems. And, though no one's fault, the river is exceedingly cold this year and I would recommend this only for those who like to 'rough it'
One of the better campgrounds on the island. Great access to swimming in the river, private, and usually has room. It's dark at night so know the layout before then. We have stayed here in tents and a tent trailer and there almost isn't a bad site. Highly recommended.
Awesome little trail. Easy hike about 20 mins to do the loop or you could walk to the upper falls in about 5 mins it’s very close to the parking lot. Upper falls is beautiful. Lower wasn’t super active so not as exciting but beautiful area to swim in the summer.
Good sized camp ground, great little playground, one of only three "pump/skills" bike tracks for the kids on the island. Very quiet site and great trail access to the lower falls. Also very close access to some great mountain bike trails for all ages.
Very pretty. Nice easy hike. 1-2 hours, depending on the stops. Possible to get in the water- but it’s very cold! There is probably a longer trail too.
A short walk to the upper falls which are the most impressive. The loop to the lower falls is nice, but later in the summer, when the water flow is less, you can't really see the lower falls. There is a little swimming hole there though (in freezing cold water). Excellent picnic area, too.
What a wonderful park! For starters, the campground is wonderful with spacious lots and lots of privacy created naturally by the enormous trees that close you in. You can’t get closer to nature than this! The hike are is also beautiful with a multitude of hikes to choose from within the network and the possibility of viewing two beautiful waterfalls. Opportunity to swim as well! The paths in the park are wide and easily navigable, although not suited for strollers or other mechanisms on wheels.
This is a beautiful park. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to explore it more. We were on our way to Port Hardy and needed a place to pitch and tent and sleep. Outhouses are clean. The park is also kept very clean. Watch out for unsupervised kids running in and out of campsites and in front of your car. Drive very very slow.
