I went with my husband to drink and dine on something on a Friday afternoon, we sat outside and they served us very well, the truth is that everything we ordered was very tasty but without a doubt the tap with mushrooms was the star; we will return soon

Nice place on Denman Street in downtown Vancouver. We sat at the bar as the wait for a table was long, especially if you don't have reservations.

We got the chicarrones (pork belly), roasted spiced eggplant, galacian style grilled squid and pork skewers.

The pork belly and squid were great. The pork skewers were a little dry but that seems normal as I rarely find any place where skewers aren't dry.

The service was good as they are attentive and the place has an intimate atmosphere.

Really good tapas and service in a cozy space. We got the anchovies on toast, chicharrones, grilled squid, and churros. Everything looked simple but all executed perfectly. Balanced flavours and spot-on seasoning. Their sangria has a few secret ingredients that make it really unique and outstanding. Attentive and warm service throughout. Wish we had spots like this in Toronto!

The paella too much water, taste like risotto and burn. No idea why people say it is good. The grill squid is grill squid.should not expect. This restaurant doesnt have any spanish flavour. Dont waste your time and money.

A bit on the pricey side but well worth a meal if you're looking for a fine dining meal!

A really nice bar/restaurant in the West End of Vancouver. Really nice tapas inspired cuisine from Spain. I loved all of my options, service was excellent and I loved the atmosphere. Perfect date spot. Highly recommended!

Very attentive staff! Very good food and a wonderful atmosphere! Had the daily paella, and the patatas bravas, both were exceptional! Slightly expensive but definitely worthwhile if youre uncertain:)

Nice place to share some tapas. Can be a bit expensive for what it is, but every restaurant in Vancouver is that way these days. We loved the patatas bravad and daily paella.

Fabulous meal and fabulous staff. Took very good care of us. Went with my 83 year old dad. He had steak which was amazing. I had tapas and wine. Tremendous wine list. Busy for sure but lovely to feel the buzz of a great restaurant in early January!

España is our go-to restaurant in Vancouver. Terrific and authentic Spanish cuisine with great service. Don’t miss it! And the Galician style squid was the best.

I would say they need to remove the Paella from the menu.

It's the night before my girlfriends birthday and we've been before and enjoyed the food a lot. This time we decided to splurge on the Paella and it really felt like leftovers on rice. The other things I've had here were seriously good though. I want to go back to have more of the share plates because I have fond memories of those and I'll update this review once I do.

We get there a bit early for our dinner reservations and were given the dinner menu as well as a happy hour menu. This made for a very confusing and unpleasant experience for our party. The extra star is for the food. We were not allowed to order from the menus we were given. “It’s still happy hour. You can only order from this menu for the next 10 minutes. ” Please do not give your customers any menus from which we are not allowed to order. Or don’t seat us for dinner; tell us to come back if we are too early. Or take our orders and tell us the food can’t be started for another few minutes. Thank you.

Authentic Spanish churros.somehow service was a bit slow even if the restaurant wasn't too busy but it might have been an off day, they were very attentive and descriptive with their menu items

It has an impressive menu that attracted my intention to try Spanish cuisine outside Spain. Very good location with beautiful beach nearby for everyone to enjoy before and after visitng the restaurant. I appreciated the great service of a guy there.

Good wine selection and friendly and attentive staff. The tapas were subpar though. The portion sizes are ridiculous given the prices. We could have shared 10 different tapas for two people and still not be full.

Hands down one of the best dining experiences my partner, Skylar, and I have had since we moved to Vancouver. The amazing and personable service from Juan and Jessica made it so memorable, and the food was PHENOMENAL! Highly recommend the chicharrones, daily tortilla (almost like a fritata), and the frito mixto calabaza! We'll be back again and again and again.

Really good carefully prepared food and drinks. Owner is incredibly thoughtful and friendly. Is actually Spanish. Was a relaxed unhurried dinner reminiscent of Europe. Highly recommend!

España is a great restaurant in the west end of Vancouver. They were able to fit us in on the patio during the busy Celebration of Light. Our server was fantastic and highly attentive, and the food was very timely. Four of us shared several different tapas, and each was delicious and excellently plated. The drinks were great too!

We had a really disappointing experience here last night. We started with olives and a cocktail each, which were all delicious and a great start. Then everything that was actually cooked was very disappointing.
Patatas bravas came next and the sauce tasted like plain tomato sauce straight from a can, and the dish was described to us as ‘saucy’ but halfway through there was no sauce left. The aioli was okay.
Mushrooms on toast followed, the mushroom part was delicious but the “toast” was a slice of white bread that
wasn’t toasted at all, so it turned into a soggy mess.
We had already ordered the daily special, the sablefish escabeche, and it was… inedible. The poor fish had been cooked so long it was a gritty mush, and the sauce was so sweet that it overpowered any flavour that may have come from the veg or seasonings. Escabeche is defined by vinegar, but there was none to be tasted.
The only saving grace of the experience was that Jessica was an awesome server who took the escabeche off the bill when she noticed we had only taken one bite each, and she poured us a beautiful sherry on the house. For a bill of well over $100 the only stellar parts were olives and a cocktail, and of course Jessica’s kind and attentive service.

After being at Como taperia and La Boqueria at E pender I was truly looking forward to the great described experience from people who have eaten at España especially because i live a few blocks away.
The food was ok, flavors were ok but definitely they need to try it before sending it to the table because what i ordered lacked of salt (was pretty under season). Since we arrived our server mention all the items that were sold out on the menu which unfortunately were all the things we were craving for from the tapas/reg menu, the charcuterie section and the drink menu, totally understandable for a busy restaurant however, we got annoyed on how the server was overly pushy asking every 5 min if we wanted something else It looks that they are more in a hurry for you to eat fast and leave than actually enjoy the moment, she basically said, that because the weekeds are busy and close mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesday are kinda low on things probably that's why ran out of salt.we usually eat a lot but after trying the first 2 tapas, the sobrasada which goes on a slice of white bread, nothing wrong with it but at least a bit toasted woulda be good because it was soft, i was expecting either a baguette or pan de cristal as it should and 2 of the feature which were good but needed salt same as the hanger steak and the potatoes. To be honest i would probably come back but just for a few drinks and some nibbles if i don't have anywhere else to go since for the price i rather go to la boqueria or Como taperia and spend more money for good food, drinks and service.

Fantastic restaurant and customer service. Highly recommended! The beet salad, chicharon and churos are the best in the city!

Wonderful restaurant with fantastic choices and great ambience. Jessica, at the bar is the best, She is charming, patient and very knowledgeable. We all had a great time.

First time back since pandemic. Service was absolutely fantastic, and the food was even better than I remeber. Thank for the amazing nite!

We arrived there at 4: 30, at the door, the waitress asked whether we want to order Paella and we said yes can we order now she said Yeees but once we seated she said you have to wait until 5pm to order Paella! And she pushed us to order from happy hour menu although we didn’t want to. But we couldn’t just seat and do nothing
I asked why there’s no price for the Paella and she said it’s $50 but enough for three. I asked about the Paella seafood and she named three seafoods in the dish

The Paella tasted ok but totally a different version of what we have tried in different restaurants in Spain.
Only had 5 shrimps (not prawns) and mussels. So only 2 seafoods and not 3, the portion size was enough for two average person and not 3, opposed to what she claimed before we ordered.
Poor try to justify the price by claiming it’s enough for three person and has 3 seafoods in it.

Small restarurat but with hood attention, good food, only they need a good musical atmosphere.the tapas is really good

The eggplant dish was superb! Probably the best eggplant I’ve tried in my life. It is a tapas place but the portion is quite generous. We only ordered three dishes and we were full. Definitely should’ve come with more people but the restaurant is so small, hard to cram too many people in.

Unfortunately the Paella was burnt on the bottom (completely black) and tasted bad. Tapas were great tho

I keep restaurants accountable while I respect and understand them trying to make a living in expensive Vancouver:

1- tapas were nice but pricy (14$ for a bowl of potatoes and some sour cream?)
2- no music
3- again high pressure to order and high pressure to clean the table hinting that you must leave.

And something that has just come to my attention with not just this place but all places: they charge the tips on the entire amount of the bill and not the food and drink amount itself: so practically you pay 15% or 18% tips on the liquor tax and GST as well which can add up.
So your 15% tip is essentially 18% and your 18% is about 21%.

I understand the crew’s partial wages comes from tips and there has been inflation but the foods and drink have already priced inflation in so as the tips are % of the entire bill, the inflation has been adjusted already.

I think paying the tips on the entire bill including gst and liquor tax is misleading and unethical. At this rate we will be at automatic 25% tips next year in Vancouver.

Excellent service, meal, ambiance. Quaint restaurant that makes you feel like you have traveled far away.

The food is pretty good here considering that Vancouver is not an easy place to get ingredients for a cuisine like this. However, we got annoyed on how the server was overly pushy. It looks that they are more in a hurry for you to eat fast and leave than actually enjoy the moment. The patrons next to us also noticed this.

Food wise, we recommend the Galician style squid and the chicharrones. The anchovy tostada is generous and rich, I would personally add a bit of fresh tomato to balance the flavors.

One of our favourite restaurants in the West End, tried to dine there regularly before the pandemic and enjoyed take-out throughout the beginning of the pandemic. We finally had a babysitter so we made a reservation (very easy) and went to enjoy our second meal out in the last year. Our whole experience was excellent, the restaurant felt safe and they were taking the current PHO seriously, checked our vaccination status, tables felt distanced and safe even in such a small space. Still had the atmosphere we enjoyed from before the pandemic.

The menu as always was incredible, we ordered a couple negronis to start and selection of our favourite dishes. The patatas bravas are as good if not better than what we've had in Spain, anchovies on toast and mushrooms on toast, all delicious, the daily tortilla was amazing (almost ordered a second). Our server selected 2 different glasses of red wine to suit our tastes and picked perfectly. All in all it was as good an experience as we've come to enjoy from Espana. We look forward to going back!

I have been looking for a good paella in town after visited Barcelona.to be honest none of the place i tried is even close to the one i had in Spain ; however, this paella is very testy。 the only one i will go back again

Quaint little restaurant with flavorful food! We stopped in for happy hour and shared three small plates. It was exactly what we were looking for, and reminded us of our time in Spain. We had sardine toast, fried olives, and crispy pork belly. Delicious!

The food is sooo good! Definitely worth the money and trip to go downtown for it. All of the servers were very sweet and welcoming. The paella we had was enough to make the 4 of us really full. Highlight of the night was the Churros, Madrid style.

So many cheap people in the comments. First of all, it’s tapas, second of all, most dishes are about $15. How big do you think it’s gonna be? It’s pretty comparable to other Vancouver restaurants.

Anyway, the food here is always delicious and the menu changes often. The wine and cocktail selection is also concise but has a bit of everything. Service is friendly and the place is cute.

Great place for tapas, their crispy anchovy stuffed olives and chicharrones are delicious. Good selection of drinks as well.

If you want to waste your precious time and money you can try. We did not have a chance to waste our money here because the owner/waiter was pure rude. I think he is the owner because I've never seen an old male waiter that ugly and rude. Plus he is the only one not wearing a mask among the staff. First time seeing a waiter/waitress not wearing a mask since the pandemic.

Not to be missed! We had a party of 6, Amelia was our server. Great smile (she unmasked for that), attentive and lots of fun. The food is excellent; we tried nearly all the tapas and the piella (spelling?). A very memorable evening in a lovely part of Vancouver.

It was our 4 or maybe 5th time back over the past 3 years and they did it again! This restaurant delivers the best food, service and good times, every time. WE JUST LOVE IT HERE. Thank you Espana, for another great evening and fond memory.

It's worth your time and money! Catherine offered very friendly and professional service, the food was wonderful, with good presentation and bright fresh flavours. Ordered the mushroom toast, the rib eye steak and the pork collar with churros for dessert. Very delicious and we recommend it. We don't live in Vancouver but will return next time we are here.

I was in Vancouver visiting friends and family, and happened to be staying close to this restaurant. On a whim, I took my cousin here. WOW! For a cozy little tapas bar, the dishes (of which we probably had ten between us) were delicious and bursting with flavour. The staff was kind and courteous, and were able to make excellent suggestions for pairings from their extensive wine list. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys tapas-style eating.

Delicious! Each dish was better than the last. Highly recommend the chicharons, octopus and patatas bravas. Our server Emelia was an absolute joy! Friendly, charming, and had an incredible amount of wine knowledge. Until next time, Espana!

Best restaurant in Vancouver’s West End! Love their tapas, the paella is super! Chiccarones. The staff is great, my fav west end go to place.

The food is unreal, I would go so far as to say it's done of the best Spanish food I've had and I've worked in some of the best in Canada. Give it a try, the staff are lovely people, you cannot go wrong. Ps check out the features, Chef knows his stuff!

Terrible food and service nowadays! Used to be a good place for tapas. Unfortunately, another failure in Vancouver food business.

Spiritual successor to Bin 941, this is the ultimate experience in sophisticated and unique Vancouver dining. Every detail of the space is well thought out from the rustic wooden beams to the atmospheric wall mural. The vibe is sexy, chill party, lit with candles and well- curated music.

Staff was warm and inviting, offering a special touch of hand sanitizer that smelt like delicious aromatherapy. The food all sounded incredible and Ed Perrow, the owner, gave me expert guidance on what to try, along with wine pairings. I had the beets, endive spears with veggie medley and braised beef with mashed potatoes. Absolutely exceptional. The night ended with a brown butter mouse and some sherry. Just wow.

España is a gem in the West End and is now officially on my "regular haunts" list.

Called to make a reservation, was told to hold shortly, waited 20 minutes and absolutely nothing, just left me dangling on the phone. = (I wonder how much longer I would be on hold if I didn't hang up. Hopefully the owner will read this review and prevent this from happening again.

I have terrible experience with the Paella. It is not only because of the taste is extremely salty, but also prawn was not deveined and sand in the clams. I drank 4 cups of water with it and I couldn’t even finish it!
Furthermore, customer service is bad. While the customer in the warmer table were leaving, the server did not even ask us to move to there and then server asked the later customer to do so. It’s disrespectful!
However, the pork chop is great. That’s the star coming from.

Top notch food. Very reasonable prices. Very nice staff. We were treated so well. It was fabulous to have service like that. A real treat. Cheeses are great, meats are great, surprise hit.the brussel sprouts. Beers are nice.the only disappointment was the sangria but we quickly moved on. Go.
