Fairway Market

Worst in selling food products that expired month and month ago. It’s upsetting to have to go back and return food that is old and stale or expired for a long time already. This has been happening way to many times in a short period of time. My advice, put the products on sale before they expire not month after.

Good grocery store but they keep closing their mall entrance so early and it forces people to have to walk outside and around to their entrance. It's very frustrating and this same door closes at different times each day.

My son came home from a football game with his dad after they had picked up Chinese food for the drive. My son said he didn't feel well and was convinced the food was at least a day old. When I went to throw it out the shrimp felt more like rubber than seafood and smelled off. (I was a cook for 15 years, I know food, this wasn't it). Will not go back

Really good selection of meats, and varieties of cuts. Good store for produce and specialty foods. Good source for Asian foods.

Well it would appear that Fairway is taking a page out of Save On Foods business practices. I went there the day after the sale on Top Sirloin Steak started and was informed that they "were all sold out" but, I could buy some 1/4" Australian strip loin steaks for an inflated price. LOL

Nice try but this meat dept is either completely incompetent or could it be the old bait and switch tactic? I suspect it's got more to do with incompetence than anything nefarious. I believe that they're letting people buy up their sale meat in extreme quantities with no restrictions to ensure that they have enough stock for their customers.

Or they're haven't figured out that Nanaimo has grown by 22% in a little over 10 years and are still placing meat orders for a city population that no longer exists. You'd also think that'd realise that in a recession people (or other businesses) will hunt out bargains and buy as much as they can afford and as much as the store will let them purchase.

But either way I'd expect better from a Grocery Store that prides itself on being local.

My local market! Great staff and all kinds of delicious food. They have an awesome hot counter and sandwich selection as well as a large selection of ramen noodles if you are looking for a meal to go.

I think the older lady's at work most at all tellers and foods be better at funeral homes with their attitudes and unfriendliness towards customer service

The Fairway at NNTC is our neighbourhood's go-to grocery, open daily 7am to 9pm. Fairway has its own bakery and deli, a large produce section, and a wide selection of groceries for Asian food. As staffing permits, the store serves breakfast daily until 11am, and after 11am, Chinese food meals from a buffet until 6 to 7pm.

Today the cashier at the lottery and smoke checkout was pretty run. First she was rude to the man in front of me because he didn't know where to line up and if you haven't been there a few times I understand the register is on the one side and they want you to put you stuff there a little whole in the plexiglass. She was getting shot with me after I told her I was buying the chip dip she left at the other side and asked if I needed a bad not reaching for it then says I've only got 2 hands.thanks me 2 so I just asked if she was having a bad day well she needed another cashier to come in and replace her and I ask her if that woman was having a bad day she kinda laughed and said yes with a smile. Unfortunately if you work as a cashier you can't bring your attitude and bads days to work. I hope she has a better day tomorrow

Fairly expensive store geared towards specialty items, with a decent deli serving hot food (mostly Chinese), which is now closed on Sundays - astoundingly, they are apparently unable to train people to staff the counters on that day.
While the store isn't dirty, it has an unkempt, disorganized appearance - a bit like a market.
Cashiers are efficient but rarely friendly.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced buying a BOAR TAINT pork @ Fairway. Wasted quite a few packs into garbage since they smells and tasted horrible. I think it would be helpful if your meat/butcher dept would check and make sure to not put out any pork that has taint cause they're disgusting.

Best thing is the Chinese food. Unfortunately it is often closed. Not available on Sunday sadly. If understaffed why not close a different day? Sundays are popular for eating out.

I didn't realize I had to bag my own groceries here! Young cashier didn't bag my groceries so I asked her " Do I have to bag my own groceries" she said yeah and shrugged.never going her again!

So much awesome packed into one store. Cooking Asian recipes and you're not on the south end of the city? Fairway Market is the answer! Plus they have bacon on sale for just $3.99/lb

Don't recommend their bakery at all. Bought a pack of blueberry muffins that were actually chocolate chip muffins with a few blueberries on top. Definitely not intentional - no chocolate on the ingredients list. Also bought some apple fritters that were completely raw in the middle. The meats also consistently look old. Otherwise it's a fine store, expensive but a pretty wide selection. Just stay away from the fresh stuff.

I have had their sushi twice in a week. After having a bad experience a few years ago I’ve been reluctant to eat sushi but sometimes I crave it! So being a new employee in the mall i decided to try their sushi because it looked so good! And it is absolutely delicious! Thankfully I work only 3 days a week cause otherwise I’d be buying it everyday! Which probably wouldn’t be a bad thing anyway lol Thanks fairway and the staff are always wonderful!

Think store is really go down hill. Seem like no body care anymore. Long line up to pay not because it was busy but only 1 cashier, products are sold over due, I usually come here for Chinese food very often but haven’t come back for months. Try again yesterday and it was terrible, tasteless and over cooked. No sign of passion in their cooking. Very disappointed

Just like other recent reviews, I also find that the service has gone way done hill. Very few workers so you have about 30 people walking in line of 3 cashiers. The staff at the bakery are extremely slow. Takes about 5 mins from asking for 1 baked good to the time it get given to you. Should take less then 1 minute you put a croissant in a bag and in my hands. Chinese food has gone downhill and is tasteless and overcooked at times. I used to prefer their chinese food over QF but I stick with qf for their consistency and quality. Prices are very expensive here also and alot of their products are old enough where it should have been tossed out because it's no longer sellable. Redeeming factor is that they have a good variety of Asian and foreign foods.

Lots of very different vegetables then the other grocery stores, good prices, has most everything you'd need.

Personally, I think fairway market is a "good" store. The main reason why I rated it 5 stars is that they very rarely change their stock. For example; I was there about 7 days ago and they still had a gingerbread kit from Christmas. Whenever I go there it is very hard to find things that are newer. I found a lot of the food items to be very close to their expiry date (4-5 days). I hope this place steps up their game.

Very friendly staff. Helpful. Love the variety of foods. I moved from Vancouver, and have had a tough time finding foods from the east.
