Finest At Sea

Excellent sized fish and chips and super tasty oysters. Coleslaw could have had more flavour but its lacklustre taste, but good crunch, might have added in the Depp fired halibut out of this world. Would recommend eating here.

Very friendly staff. My fish was a little overdone- dry, but my friends was good.

Really good fish n chips! Really recommend. It's only not 5 stars because it's pricey.
Oh, and coleslaw is "meh" in comparison to the other food.

Only time i'm disappointed with this establishment is when they run out of their smoked oysters. Otherwise i always come out of there happy. Only way the seafood is fresher is if you catch it yourself.

Awesome place the best. They packaged all our caught fish then filleted it then vacuum sealed and packaged it. Never smelled even after 2 years frozen was like it was just caught. Will use them again for sure. Greg

Cheap prices for cooked fresh fish! Not a great sitting area with sticky tables. But the food quality is great! I like the sauces they use for fish: no mayonnaise or other sauce from the bottle, but sauce from scratch based on olive oil or butter with rosemary and looks like some other secret ingredient. Thank you! That was my to go place for lunch.

The food truck was such a disappointment. They took gorgeous pieces of halibut and big fries, then proceeded to overcook the batter and fries with too hot, old tasting oil. What a waste of money and good fish

Best battered fish in town with chips that are just OK. A bit overpriced for the size ($20 for 1 5oz piece halibut and chips or $30 for 2 pcs).

Great take out - locally caught fish and shellfish - and friendly staff in the take out place. Fantastic seafood shop behind it, and upstairs. I go pretty much every Friday.

Fish and chips here are great- but the tacos I had were kind of flavourless with a wet texture and the flour tortillas were like cardboard. Fries were great though.

We had fried halibut; delicious and large portion. They have great selection, salmon, fish tacos. You can order 1 or 2 pieces of fish. Great place to eat outdoors!

Like how they've added seating. Fish and chips are top shelf as is the fish market at the back.

Best seared tuna tacos I’ve ever had and there’s no hunting for it at the bottom - the fish is plentiful and well prepared. Also, the nice lady who ran the place stepped out to thank all the customers for their business. You can’t beat that personal touch!

FAS was a delightful fish and chips experience. There is no indoor seating and the day was warm enough to be outside.

The halibut was fresh and lightly breaded and very flavourful. The chips were kerebec cut and prepared fresh. Both were served hot. If there was a slight downfall its the coleslaw. It was fresh and crunchy but the dressing was not tart and overall lacked flavour. But don't let that stop you from enjoying FAS.

A quaint place to enjoy fresh fish and chips but watch to ensure your fish is cooked! I ordered the halibut and chips and half way into it, my fish was under cooked. They quickly replaced it with another but it was over battered and not hot and the chips were flimsy.

The best seafood chowder ever in town. Came for the spicy octopus taco and fell for the lingcod fish & chips, fried oysters and more!

In May of 2022, I stopped by to have some much craved fish and chips. I had eaten here many years ago and it was good. I went at around 2.30 pm. I ordered some cod. Took it home and it was awful, an understatement. It was smelly and was definitely not fresh. I don’t think it was fresh at all. I paid $21 for this and had to throw everything out. I could not take it back as it stank so much that I could not get the smell out of my car for months. I called the store and spoke to a lady who said, “ I’m sorry…. That’s it! Terrible terrible. Will never recommend it nor ever go there again. Thanks.

Very busy mid-day with a cruise ship in the harbour, but also quick service and delicious food. Smoked tuna tacos were awesome, as was the lingcod and chips. Solid condiment and hot sauce bar, nice little parklet seating (or a quick walk to harbour view seating)

We buy lots of fish here. Today was some hand peeled Tofino shrimp (have had before) and octopus salad (first try).

Great food and very friendly staff. The tacos were fantastic, the fish was really good but lacked some seasoning. They were unfortunately sold out of the chowder and the fried pickles which I really wanted to try.

Finest At Sea have their own fleet of fishing boats, so their seafood are fresh. We bought halibut, wild salmon, octopus salad and seafood chowder, all seems to be of good quality.

These people know how to cook fish so it's not dry and tasteless. Great fish tacos, soup, and seasonal salad. Highly recommended!

Halibut was outstanding. Grampa loved the BC Kettle fries and I loved the tarter sauce. Large portions. Would like a bit more flavour in yh coleslaw. We will be back!

Great seafood but don’t try to order anything from their “restaurant” by phone, Plan to stand in the rain/cold to order and pick it up. Location has very limited parking.

Excellent fresh fish and seafood and there is a park across the street to enjoy it in. Can get busy at times but well worth the wait.

For really fresh seafood I often go here. Fresh of the boat literally, it's a thriving operation in James Bay. With a food cart out front you can now get lunch or dinner of great seafood.

The portion sizes did differ from order to order though, wasn't a huge bother to me since I have a smaller appetite but I did notice my partner had a pile of coleslaw while I had like 2 fork fulls while my sister in law got jipped on the fries and I got a mountain of those

Loved the take out counter food. Hands down the best fish tacos, no repurposed fishsticks here, clearly fresh fish and cooked to order. Fish and chips was great too. Best I've had? Maybe, it's a close call with a place in Lunenburg, on the other ocean.

They have a great variety of salmon, tuna and other seafood products all locally caught and smoked. We tried the candied tuna and sablefish and they were delicious!

Only went into the store and frankly. It's nice but overrated. A fish store. Apparently the only one around. Which is strange. I guess that's what makes it popular. It's tiny. Does not offer a huge variety. Mostly salmon and cod. By the looks of it, the restaurant might well be worth it. It too, seems to be the only one around. Strange!

Three of us went to dinner tonight, I had the spicy octopus taco, my husband had the tuna taco and our friend had lincod tacos. They were all delicious and very filling. Their French fries are SO good! Would love to have shared photos.but we all ate too quickly!

We stumbled across this gem when walking our dog and what a fabulous find. They have a dog friendly patio but we opted to borrow one of their picnic blankets and popped across the road to the park. I had the chowder and hubby had lingcod and chips both were v yummy and just what we needed after ferrying from Vancouver. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

I tried their seared smoked salmon tacos today. Sooooo good! I will definitely get them again! Get your food to take away or sit in a lovely shady area out front with flowers and bushes. Service was quick and the food was EXCELLENT!

Best fresh seafood ever! Found everything we needed for last minute paella! They even has the special rice and seasoning.

The food truck is amazing! Sockeye tacos and the chowder are delicious and the outdoor seating is perfect. The store is nice too but very pricey. Over all great establishment!

Was very disappointed, ordered 2 piece fish and chips, was told fries weren't available.said ok, then order was ready it was pan fried fish, small portion paid $34, staff did not make it clear at all as to how the fish would be cooked, when clearly If a customer asks for fish and chips.its deep fried! I was clearly not happy about the 3 staff's attitudes.they actually made the my experience worse, will not go back, should have listened to my coworker and went to her go to.lesson learned

My new favourite place to pick up fish. The selection of fresh fish is amazing and we love to stock the freezer with an array of frozen.

Excellent little shop with some great seafood and local products. I was able to find some beautiful frozen spot prawns that really hit the spot. Got some wonderfully fresh halibut there as well. Made date night extra special.

Fish and chips good but the 15% additional charge if you use a card feels like a rip off as they are at a high price and you have to ask for a fork, napkin and salt/ vinegar not a good feeling

Best sustainable fish store in Victoria. It’s a James Bay local so we walk by regularly and start dreaming of fish burgers & fish & chips. We love both the store & the food truck.

I went to buy some fish the other day. The shop was empty and served by two people (man and woman). They were not friendly and when I changed my mind and switched the fish I buy, even they owed some money, they said it is even and didn't give me a change. No courtesy, very cold and no interest to serve.

This is a seafood authority when it comes to every stage of delivery of seafood to your plate. Starting with the hardest working crew on the west coast and the way those highly trained commercial fishermen handle product the second its on board, the way that they suspend the product in time if you will so that when the boat is being offloaded their catch is sounding more like change being doped into a basket (ting ting ring ting. NOT thud sloppy thud) a short haul in a newer rig with top of the line reefer to their yard in James bay where there team of knowledgeable staff are already waiting for their anticipated load of "the finest at sea" T. Great selection of seafood. We picked up 5 dozen oysters and when we started cleaning them noticed more than a dozen had already opened. Brought them back and they immediately replaced them. The second batch was perfect.

Great, locally sourced, fish store. They also have a take out window and out door tables. Their fish tacos are amazing!

I would recommend their cold-smoked fish versus their hot-smoked fish. It's a lot softer in texture, and melts in your mouth.
