Fish on Fifth

Five stars is something I rarely give places, but this place was fantastic! Quickly seated, we were served the most delicious poutine Ive ever had, great deep fried fish with the lightest/crunchiest breading Ive ever eaten, the coleslaw was inspired, and the dill aoli was perfect. The best part, it was all gluten free! I am always super nervous to go out to eat, and Fish on Fifths wait staff was very knowledgeable and put me at ease. If I lived here, I would come back again.

The vegan big Mac was amazing! The staff was so helpful with my food sensitivity (soy) and made sure to check ingredients for me. Can’t wait to visit again next time I’m on the island. Highly recommend!

Terrible service, took forever for our table to be acknowledged. When we left table still had all plates. Serving size for price tiny, and there was no actual fish in my fish tacos, just deep fried nothingness and a few specs of fish. EXPENSIVE and bad

Friendly staff and fast service. I got take-out seafood chowder. One of the best chowders I ever eat! Good portion with plenty of fish and clams.

I know fish on fifth specializes in seafood, but their deep fried pickles and dole whip is something I always come back for! Their cod fish and chips is really good and a pretty good price for the size! I’ve had their deep fried artichokes and fish tacos too and it was good too!

So lame! Nothing to complain about (I love complaining) the staff is awesome absolutely amazing. The food is sooo yummy and very filling! Good prices too. Will be back.

First time in Sidney, great place. This restaurant is a must for clam chowder fish n chips. Friendly staff, great food. Highly recommend.

So slow and never got what we asked for. They had 4 servers on but we still had to get up and ask for our drinks and food was different then last time we had it. Not happy with it after this visit

Quaint little restaurant with a nautical theme. Incredible gluten free options, made my heart so happy to have onion rings again after years of not having them!

Menu was labelled clearly, which is fantastic. Makes for a smooth dining experience for a socially anxious celiac.

Portions were good, definitely worth the price. Super crispy and greasy, just what I want in my fish and chips.

Fun little knot tying chart and a rope on the table, my boyfriend and I had fun attempting to make some knots while we waited.

Staff was friendly, made sure to check on us.

Overall, wonderful experience and would come back any time i’m in Sidney

They made so many mistakes on my take-out orders in the summer that I just avoided the place for awhile. They would put allergens (nightshade vegetables) in my order that I specified I couldn’t have. They gave my nut-allergy friend cashew cheese. I gave it a few months and thought I would try back after the summer rush of hiring new staff. Was once again disappointed.

Disappointed after not coming here for several years. The fish tacos were very bland - lettuce, and deep fried fish and mayo and the tortillas were served cold. This was $18.

Not only the fish is very tasty, regional and seasonal, but the fries are to be mentioned positively and were - although they were actually only a side dish - almost the real highlight of the meal.

If you are ever in Sidney, Fish on Fifth is a great place for fish & chips. The batter was not heavy and you can taste the fish - I had the 2-pc haddock and although I thought I was hungry, I could barely eat the second piece. Also try the adult shakes - I had a vanilla Malibu shake - very delicious and dairy free! Service is over the moon - definitely a repeat!

Visited after 1pm.
Looked busy hour but no staffs looked mad and the chef behaved very friendly to my kids.

Could know why this place has many positive reviews.

We stopped in Sydney after getting off the ferry on our way to Victoria…what a wonderful food experience we had at this Fish on Fifth restaurant…such a warm welcome and a cozy atmosphere…our fish and chips was exactly what we wanted and this quality food experience met all our expectations …we will definitely return to choose further menu items on our next visit…

Our meal and the service were ‘fine’. We’ll come back again and hopefully we’ll upgrade this review to 5 stars.

Super fresh, decided to have cod and chips two pieces, one grilled one deep fried to see the difference. Even though they were bothgood the deep fried won!

We were visiting from the Okanagan, with my aunty and uncle who were here from the UK. Fab food!

Fish batter was light and crisp. Curry mayo with sweet potato fries was delicious.
Did not like deep fried artichokes.flavours didn't work and was bland; would not order again.

Parsley and pumpkin seeds in the coleslaw was a great tweak! Dill in the tartar was delightful. REAL potatoes (excellent fries) and the Haddock was perfect in an excellent batter!

If you visit Sidney, this place is an absolute must. Being gluten free they had SO many options available and still able to enjoy the full seafood experience. The service is awesome. We were greeted with a smile and had ice cold drinks on the table within a couple minutes. The haddock was unreal, the colelaw was perfectly classic and dont get me started on the fries. 10/10.
I couldn't love this place more.

I don't think this place has ever got my take-out order right. I stopped using them for a while but gave them the benefit of the doubt this week. I wish I didn't, the fish was awful and went in the bin, and they missed two items out even though they were on the receipt and paid for. I didn't realize until I got home; by then, they were closed.

I've eaten here a few times now and recommended it to my boss as well.
The first time was amazing! Couple years ago, he didn't have a good meal and the next two times I ate here I wasn't impressed either!
I'll likely try it one more time before looking around but it seems to be slipping? What has everyone else found?
My last meal was take out because I had to rush to the ferry but still it was eaten within minutes after ordering.

Absolutely disgusted by what I saw while dining in tonight. The manager pushed an elderly customer, and then was screaming and swearing at the staff and customers. We will never be back. They are lucky that the elderly man did not press charges. He seemed unaware as to what had happened. Do NOT recommend.

Food was good but a bit overpriced, the grilled salmon I ordered was very small for the price paid. They also got my order wrong. And it took 20 min for a takeout grill order

UPDATE: I just finished this tiny entree and am still very hungry. How can a fish a chip place give such few fries when such little fish is given? Atleast be generous on the carbs. I was also charged $2 for a burger bun.

The halibut was perfectly cooked, the batter was light and not greasy. The fries were great and I loved the slaw.

I eat it. But is wasn't great. Haddock and fries. Pretty basic. Fries were not fresh. Fish looked frozen. Anyway. Beer was good.

WHAT A WONDERFUL PLACE! Fresh halibut, and cooked to excellence. I was trepidatious (is that a word?) about over-battered fish, but dear Felicity convinced me with good reason to try her vegan light-battered coating… EXCELLENT, and what a treat not to have it served with an over-sweet tartar sauce; lots of dill! You cant come to Sidney without stopping here. (The beer suggestion was perfect as well) cheers… Log Bob!

They were super busy. (Which is awesome). I've had better meals before. The cod was a little rubbery and the fries were not hot. The flavour was good. The staff was great! Will go back again, as I know this was a one off.

Read so many good reviews of this place I decided to stop by for a snack before catching the ferry. I rarely leave reviews but I felt that the restaurant needs to have a better system for take out orders. I wanted to order the onion rings but was told they didn't have any today. I was disappointed the only cutlery that was given was a fork for the soup. There was no tartar sauce for the fish and no sauce for the yam fries except ketchup. I wanted to add coleslaw as a side (i don't mind paying extra) but was told that it comes with the yam fries. Not sure if the waitress was confused that coleslaw only comes with fries only or the kitchen forgot the coleslaw.anyways i never got the coleslaw. Probably not coming back next time, this experience was quite underwhelming regardless of how good the food taste. Overall paid $30 for this takeout.

Decent for Vancouver standards. Visiting Victoria and on our way we went to try the fish and chips here.
The claim chowder was Luke warm and almost felt like it was microwaved. The cod was actually really juicy and good, the fries were seasoned well. Staff are accommodating and friendly. Would recommend the fish and chips if you are in the area.

Super friendly staff. Had a fun conversation with them while they were serving us. Good people for sure. Had calamari for appy - it was good. I've had better by far. Fish and chips were good. Not the biggest portion. Enjoyable but not wow'd. Finally, deep fried Mars bar. Very interesting. Very sweet. Happy to have finally tried it as I heard about it years ago. Would i get it again? Not sure. Probably depends on how much beer I've had. 3 stars for food but the great staff brought this review up to 4.

Generous portions, great fish & chips, and even has the elusive Dole Whip! Well worth stopping by.

Fine food and ok service from youngsters but patio clearing was poor and swarms of wasps attracted to leftover food on nearby tables made it very uncomfortable.

This place reminds me of a beach cafe in Southern California, but it's a bit further north! It's casual but great table service, and I like how their menu is organized - pick your fish, shrimp, or protein, then pick your side. They have milkshakes if that interests you.

Fish is always great, wish their fries were a little chunkier and more traditional ‘chips’. Always busy so it’s best to call ahead and place your’e order if your picking up

Meh, ok, not great. Fish was good, fries were overcooked, the coleslaw had a hair in it but I couldn’t tell the server because they don’t come back to check on you after they serve you your food. Won’t be coming back.

Fish and chips were great. Coleslaw wasn't great. And due to covid and staff shortages which I understand, the night we went the wait staff wasn't on par

Cute little place with with lots of tasty (and peculiar) choices. Fish & chips and deep fried mars bar were all delicious.

My friend and I split a 2 piece of Halbit &French fries with a side of Cearar salad. It was a very generous order.the fish was so delicious. The whole split meal was great for two people. The server was such a lovely young lady and she was very open and friendly. The service was great.would highly recommend Fish on Fifth.going back again

Would be five but almost impossible to order ahead, had to go in person. Phone not working, website and app could not figure out.
