Awesome dim sum. Super tasty and traditional.
Chive and shrimp dumplings were so good. Beef omassum was like tripe and surprisingly VERY tasty. Great bbq pork buns too!

Veg shanghai buns were the one that was only ok.

Desert: green tea sesame buns, and mango pudding were both great.

Great service and decor. They have lots of Hong Kong posters and tables of various sizes with no wait. Good selection of food as well! Nice place to go if you’re in the neighbour and you want to support a local restaurant!

We had been here for dim sum a few months ago upon recommendations and it was OK. I stopped by tonight to pick up wonton soup and salt and pepper ribs. The bill was $62 and I was a bit shocked but it is what it is. The soup was not tasty — broth was completely bland and the wontons were simply ground pork, no seasoning, no ginger, no prawns. And if I’m going to be completely honest, overcooked to the point of not being edible. Ribs while not bad, were mostly gristle. 7: 30pm on a Saturday night and not a soul in the place is pretty telling.

We're from Washington-US and have a chance to visit Vancouver, especially have a great time enjoying the good food in this restaurant. My family really like dim sum and can't wait to have it but unfortunately, most of the restaurants in Canada just serve dim sum for lunch but we're not available to have it at lunch time. We tried to call 7-8 restaurants and asked them do they still serve dim sum or not and all of them say no except the Flamingo House restaurant, we're so glad because of that. The restaurant is not too big but looks warm, the food is delicious and worth the price. My parents really enjoyed the food here and said we will be back when we have the opportunity to visit Canada again. Thanks for the good food and good services!

Very good food, atmosphere is lovely, the staff is attentive and friendly. Arrived at opening hours.

Love this place! We’ve been there with big family groups twice. They have all the classics: sweet and sour pork, ginger beef. It’s all super fresh and clearly made to order. The staff were also very friendly. We look forward to checking out their dim sum.

Enjoyed a nice large family celebration with dim sum. Food was high quality and delicious as always. The owners are always trying to improve and we even got to try a sample of a new vegetarian dim sum dish for free. A great place to try authentic dim sum if you are not Chinese as their english is excellent, customer service is high, and the facility is very clean.

Ordered 4 dishes and all except one was rather bland tasting, I was disappointed it was my first time at the restaurant.

Like many restaurants during Covid, Flamingo Chinese Restaurant closed down due to the strict restrictions regarding social distancing. As this has always been one of our fav Chinese restaurants in the neighbourhood, we had been patiently awaiting their reopening and were finally rewarded this week (they reopened on Oct 13th).

What you'll find here now is a more limited menu (although they now serve dim sum all day) but they've taken the time off to do a bit of a refresh of their interior and added physical barriers between the tables to ensure the safety of the diners.

While we were a bit disappointed that some of our fav dishes aren't on the regular menu, they did say that we could still pre-order them in advance. Definitely going to take them up on that suggestion in the future.

Uhmm… I don’t usually leave reviews or care to look at a restaurants review but after having dim sum here today, I was so curious to see the rating of this restaurant. Very surprised it has 4 star rating. Maybe it’s from the dinner menu? My rating is only regarding the dimsum. The portions were so tiny! First time seeing 3 tiny shrimp ha gow in a basket… usually it’s 4 and sometimes even 5. And only 2 items on some of the other dishes we ordered. I even heard the table behind us making the same comment as us, that the portions are so small. Taste is also very mediocre. Sorry but definitely won’t be coming back for dimsum. They need to up their portion size. The center of our deep fried scallop taro was also cold. Not worth it for dim sum. So many better dimsum restaurants in lower mainland.

Ordered door dash the portion size we got for 2 people was enough for 1 we ordered dry garlic ribs in the container there was 10 piece never and dim sum 3 pieces will we order from here again

Not bad. Decent selection. Food quality was pretty good, not overly salty. Prices have risen, probably tracking inflation. Was $32 after taxes for just myself. Sad that it doesn't look like a classic dim sum place after the reno recently. Oh well.

This is my first time coming here after 5 years. They have changed so much. Due to the pandemic, they have minimized their menu and it seems to cater more to western people from the dishes.

We called about their lobster on sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf and they were very happy to accomodate us. However, prices have gone through the roof since the pandemic so we did not order it.

When we got there, we found out their menu have been minimized. We asked about the other dishes they used to have and the servers said they are happy to make the dish if they have the ingredients on hand. What wonderful service! There are many people like us who love certain dishes at flamingo and would be sad to not be able to have them anymore but flamingo is more than happy to cater to their old guests.

We ordered the taro duck and it was delicious. Since it wasnt on the menu, we expected a very high price for it but when we got the bill, it was so reasonable! The eggplant and tofu hot ceramic pot was so flavorful. The chicken salad was refreshing especially with the candied walnuts.

I hope to see things flourish again so they can serve the dishes we all love.

Good food as usual. The prices have gone way up, but the food cost are probably impacting the price
07 September 2021 13:19
For lunch, we couple ordered 3 items of Dim sum were OK, 2 dishes: one half crispy skin chicken was nice, but pork hog with ginger and egg was terrible, bad tasting like candy soup sauce and spoiled egg. Except the later one, nothing else to complain.
27 August 2021 15:52
Delicious Dim Sun at about $6 a dish. Although slightly smaller in dish size compared to some other restaurant, two dishes should still be enough for one person. Tastes great. Dining space is clean and spacious. Has parking space in shared mall parking lot.
31 January 2021 11:08
My family has enjoyed the Flamingo restaurant for over thirty years and loved every bite. They moved in the past couple of years and sadly the quality has not moved with them. I found the plates small and greasy and the prices have soared. I'll keep the memories of many happy family dinners and find a new restaurant to enjoy.
24 January 2021 6:54
Really sad, honestly this was my preferred dimsum place. They 'streamlined' the menu but if you had something there that you preferred and only they had it's now gone. They also increase the prices of the items by piece not order. If you were to order shumai before you would get three pieces at $6 now you only get two for $5, by the piece it went up by $0.50. Also the spring roll was really unappealing as it bursted and the fried wonton didn't have the crunch so it felt more squishy then should have. My family would usually pay $40 for enough food for lunch and snacking but this time buying $28 due to streamlining and 'reduced prices' we were left hungry. It's really sad because I remember coming here when it was on Cambie when I was four or five with my auntie. It was my first experience with Asian food so this place was something special. I understand covid put strain on the food industry but initiating a bunch of changes isn't going to help and more then not, push customers away.
12 January 2021 13:13
To start off, the food quality here was always pretty good. Portions pre-reno were average and the price was already on the higher side compared to some of the other neighborhood dim sum spots.

The decor after the reno is okay, nice touch with the partitions. The tables are farther apart and feels less cramped than before.

As for the menu.what usually comes with 4 pieces or more now only comes with 2. Meanwhile, prices have gone up $2-3 per dish. Might seem small but its a big difference when you're ordering many small dishes. Wait times for food are longer, they said its cause they're making everything fresh. Normally this would be great (tastes great) except you're now receiving one dish at a time and left waiting in between each bite. You're also charged for the pot of tea and they give you bare minimum amount of tea leaves so it tastes like hot water.

Prices understandably should be higher due to the pandemic but they might have over did it with the menu changes. So disappointed in what this place has become.

Consistently good food. Been going there for several years now. New location has been renovated with covid in mind.
01 November 2020 23:38
After it repopened, the prices and portions have changed. Unfortunately theres less portions and higher price. Only 2 pieces for eggplant shrimp for 8$
31 March 2020 9:30
This place is a bit out of the way, but its family owned and the staff are very nice and they always have recognized me and my family over the years.
26 March 2020 20:43
Well known place with a long history in Vancouver. Food has to good to stay in business for this long.

Close on Wednesdays.
15 March 2020 7:43
Good restaurant service, but not my first choice for this cuisine in the area. The house chow mein is great though and will do the job for a quick fix.
03 March 2020 1:54
Disclaimer: I’m white AF but I really enjoy the food here and the service is always good too. I go here semi-often because it is the closest Chinese restaurant to my home.
13 February 2020 11:09
Average dim sum, too bad a lot of it was cold or not hot. Congee wasn't flavourful, and was not piping hot, fried taro scallop puffs had good flavour, but not hot. The steamed dumplings were fresh and hot tho, so they get full marks on the steamed dumplings. Service was nice too, and the restaurant is clean. I'd give a 3.5 if I could, but can't.
12 February 2020 9:01
I did a take out of T3 for $7.25 before tax. For $7.25, I didn't get that much. It was good though. I also ordered rice. They gave me alot of that. Overall, it was good food, but it might be a little expensive for the amount you get.
04 February 2020 23:40
Though I'm usually not a fan of the type of Chinese food they serve I really enjoyed there food and thought it was a great experience going there
12 January 2020 17:26
INCREDIBLE FOOD. I went here the first time I had dim sum and no other resteraunt is the same. The pork buns are heaven. I drive easily twenty mintes out of my way just so I can get the BBQ pork ones on the weekends.
29 December 2019 10:10
Old style Chinese restaurant. Dim sum is freshly made, Chow Mein is the best in town. Old favorites like chicken rice, sesame rolls and baked tapioca pudding that are not available elsewhere.
24 December 2019 11:27
Deliciousness, good service. My grandma been going since they on Cambie st. Great dimsum selection
14 December 2019 2:23
Although it’s a small restaurant but they have Super authentic and delicious dim sum! I never had had such great dim sum like here in NYC.
27 November 2019 20:01
Food: Average. I loved the colorful menu with pictures for dim sum. Each item also has a symbol representing meat, seafood or vegetarian. There were only three savory vegetarian dishes though, excluding desserts. The food was pretty bland and dry. I was really there for the scallop taro puff, but that was dry, almost burnt and the scallop was dessicated. I wished they made the taro puff and then placed a fresh scallop on top instead of deep frying the whole thing.

Service: Deceitful. The cashier shorted us change. When we brought it up, she immediately went back and brought us out the correct amount without asking how much. This shows that she knew that he was shorting us change. When we give $50 for a $29.15 bill, it's obvious that there should be a $20 bill for change in there. We were given a ten, five and $3.85 in loose change. I guess she thought that most people just take the bills and leave without counting. The waiting staff were great and very attentive though. We were seated on a Sunday within five minutes.

Cleanliness: This place is three years old and replaced the Filipino restaurant before it so it's pretty new. The renovations are either hastily done or they've haven't taken good care of it. The carpets are dirty, the washroom floors are greasy and materials are falling apart. The dining room decor is great though as it's quite classy.

This is a family friendly restaurant in the North American tradition with several televisions strategically located. It serves traditional Cantonese cuisine in such a way that caters to Caucasian tastes without the Americanization that is found in other restaurants. Like many other Chinese restaurants in Vancouver, they serve Cantonese dim sum for lunch and an a la carte menu for dinner. They have a very good Peking duck.

Excellent Dim Sum and terrific service. Definitely deserving of a repeat. Very satisfying dining experience

Vancouver Dining Institution.
We came by this evening for a dinner featuring one of our favorite dishes, beef with Chinese croutons. This place is only one three in town that still offers this dish on their menu. We first discovered this dish in the mid- 80's from restaurants that no longer exist. We were thrilled to be able to still order it here. My family and I have had a hankering for this dish for ages. It did not disappoint. The salty donut was sliced thin and double fried so it was very crispy accompanied by tender slices of beef, water chestnuts, mushrooms in an oyster, green onion and ginger flavoured sauce. We also ordered their deep fried cod filet in a cream corn sauce and an order of deep fried spicy pork chops seasoned with five spices, garlic and jalapeno peppers. Our dinner was so satisfying on so many levels. The restaurant was 3/4 full, service was efficient. Ambiance is relaxed as diners are happy to enjoy a leisurely meal. The interior lighting is bright so you can see your food and the other diners. Dinner was completed with complimentary slices of oranges and fortune cookies. This restaurant is known for their dim sum which is still delivered by carts that they offer daily from 10: 30 to 4: 30 pm. Take out us available but no delivery.

Delicious as always with easy parking. The customer service here remains top notch and the food is always enjoyable
20 September 2019 13:58
Some dim sum places are hard to get service at. This is not one of those places. All the dishes are great, and the "football" item is great, though admittedly I feel hella gwailo for calling it a football.
18 September 2019 8:33
Its top tier Chinese food. Fantastic dim sum. And great for dinner! Spicy salty squid ftw. I would recommend for anyone and everyone.
08 September 2019 12:52
I have been bringing my family here since they were babies and it has become part of our favourite go-to’s. It is a family owned and operated restaurant serving up fantastic dim sum dishes to traditional Chinese food fare. They used to have a location at Fraser and East 16th Avenue before going back to the Cambie Street location. In late 2015, early 2016 they moved to the SE Marine location and while the restaurant size has become significantly smaller, the food is still awesome, the staff are still smiling and have a very loyal following. If you are looking for a quick lunch or a full course dinner, Flamingo is a great place to go.
02 September 2019 14:16
There are many dimsum restaurants but many are overcrowded, mediocre customer service, not the cleanest and overly priced for the quality. Flamingo is one of the longest standing restaurants in Vancouver and they deserve to be! Their customer service is superior to the others! Other restaurants treat you differently if you speak this language and not that or if you are not a 'regular' customer etc. Flamingo has always had the nicest staff (in particular, is a tall, slim Asian man with glasses who does an excellent job!) He's been working there for decades! Their dimsum is so fresh and good quality. We like and prefer the "traditional" "original" style dimsum like har gow, siu Mai, spring rolls. At other restaurants, we have had negative experiences of getting ripped off on price or missing dishes/items, Flamingo is 110% honest! Appreciate your good & honest business ethics! We would love to visit more but this location compared to previous Cambie Str.is farther for us.
Highly recommend!

Went here for dinner and was blown away by the taste of each dish. The lobster was cooked to perfection and their fish mah soup was delicious with a rich complex broth.

The Beijing duck was also pretty good.

One thing we appreciated was all the servers spoke very good English and were friendly.

We highly recommend this place.
12 March 2019 9:37
LOOOOOL how is this place 4 stars? How is this still open? Everything tastes like it was microwaved. Beware of the Shanghai bun.
17 February 2019 22:01
The group dinner menus have excellent value! We were really impressed with the quality of the food, and the level of service. Ming, the manager, is unparalleled in his dedication to his job. We received so much attention and could not have asked for better service at a restaurant. I highly recommend any one looking for a group dinner
spot to try the Flamingo!

We enjoy the set dinner.especially the Lobster noodle and the duck course.my grand kids like the fried sticky rice and egg rolls. Service is pretty fast and I would recommend a nice atmosphere for a family meal.

Good food for a good price. The egg tarts a super fresh. Staff is friendly/good service.

Perfect for a lunch/dinner with family and friends.

There is lots parking at the restaurant and easy accessible via Marine Drive.

The interior is traditional and we are always surrounded by friendly elderly people.:)

A very reliable neighbourhood Chinese restaurant. Great service and great family style and casual dishes on the menu. Reasonable prices also. Highly recommended.
29 January 2019 13:46
It's in a weird complex. Service was friendly and they accommodated my grandparents and two walkers really well. Food is good, and dim sum was fantastic. Good value.

Be careful where you park in the big lot. There are lots of options but some stores have their own specific stalls.
20 January 2019 12:51
A go to for any family occassions. They offer a variety of dimsum delicacies for you to choose from. However, it is a really busy place especially during lunch and dinner. It is best to phone them ahead for reservations so you could get seats right away when you arrive at the place. Aside from that, service might be slow if the restaurant gets so busy.
