We used to be extremely happy with your baguettes but the last few weeks have been very disappointing. Baguettes should not be soft on the outside which is the case now. We know a lot about baguettes as we lived in France. It seems the ones we have bought recently are baked the day before or earlier and not crispy anymore. Baguettes should be sold the day they are baked

Really good German rye bread (I just moved here from Germany ten months ago, so my taste buds were in for a treat) and baguettes! The opening times make it hard for me to come here but it's always worth it!

They need to fix the line up issue, it simply takes too long to service each client. I waited in line for 10 minutes and the line barely moved before giving up and going to another bakery last week.maybe a second till? Or someone with an iPad taking orders from outside?

Hands down the best bakery in Victoria! The vegetarian hand pies are incredibly well seasoned. This week I had a potato chickpea curried one-stellar, and last week were French lentils with celeriac. They are all different and all delicious. I eat the onion focaccia in the car before I get home. Yum

Awesome rye bread and a pretty delicious cardamom knot though I’m always down for more cardamom! Great experience

Every time we go to the Island we stop here. The red fife is delicious. And a delicious soft pretzel is a must.
I did get the pizza once and it was amazing!

We have been here a few times and are never disappointed by the quality. Get in line and wait for something delicious at the other end.

Oh my, this place is the best! Friendly staff, delicious treats and hands down the best pizza on Sundays. The lineup can be long but soooo worth it!

So good! Always a big line at this place, but worth the wait. I want to try the pizza next, only gave this a 4 because there isn’t a lot of seating available.

I'll keep this simple: the bread is amazingly delicious; love the Olive bread and plain sourdough in particular. And the chocolate croissant is the best I've tasted.

Amazing bakery with great pretzel and breads. There was a line to enter the place. Highly recommended.

Best bakery I have ever ever ever eaten from. I love the danishes so much. The pan du chocolat is out of this world as are all of the croissants. Delish! Go there!

A delicious bakery where you have to wait in line to buy. The friendly reception of the clerk and the delicious bread make you feel better.

Very healthy ingredients and delicious! No one minds the line ups for breads and pastries.

Just a ok bakery. We tried Cinnamon roll, breakfast croissant, filled donut, sourdough bread

Cinnamon roll: just ok cause very dry, doesn’t taste from the morning and quite expensive

Breakfast croissant: best item, good croissant dough and tasty. Ok price

Filled donut: very dry but taste ok, pricey

Sourdough bread: ok but same as previous items, very dry like old bread.

As a bakery fan I felt pretty disappointed by this place cause I heard good things about them, I guess the marketing of one customer at a time in the store and creating line up outside is working but Victoria has better bakery.

Not usually one to write reviews. I've grown up with my parents owning a French bakery and man, this bread/croissants and pastries are out of this world!

Our favourite little bakery in the city. The chocolate croissants and huge sourdough loaves are a weekly purchase for us!

Great wood-fired, French baking. My favourite by far is the rustic bread. It is a hearty, chewy bread that is so good, I can eat it plain. The pretzels are really tasty. The cinnamon brioche is lovely. I've tried the sandwiches and they are a great quick-up for lunch if I'm walking back from downtown. It's an awesome little bakery.

We have tried their baked goods and they were super tasty! They offer a large variety of sweet and salty baked options. The downside is that they do not have space to sit down and enjoy their food with a coffee, so you need to order to go, and get a coffee at the coffee shop next door.

Great selection of breads and pastries. The aroma was awesome. Small place but well laid out with outdoor seating.prices were ok and service was quick & friendly.parking is a tough go, more convenient for the neighbourhood walk ins.

Bread products here are second to none but shame about the customer service, which was awful. Spoken to with such disdain this morning ended up walking out without buying anything. The young lad who didn't attempt to help me in any fashion looked at me as as if I'd just insulted his mother - I just asked if he could advise what was in the meat pie!?
Won't be going back yet know won't make any difference to them. If you enjoy being treated like sh*t then save money on going to S/M clubs and just go and ask a simple question at Fry's.

We like seeking out great bakeries when we travel, and Fry's was on our list in Victoria. We bought the focaccia bread, crossant, pretzel, and breakfast in bed. Everything was awesome. I particularly loved the breakfast in bed, and the focaccia. We came back again on a Saturday around 2: 30 pm, and the shop was pretty much empty. So if you want to have choices, come early. Cash or debit only.

Can be really great but consistency is not their strong point! From under baked to blackened, you never know what you'll find. Service at Moss Street Market is generally very good but sometimes, there or on Craigflower, it can border on rude. Fantastic pretzels when they aren't burnt. Breads are marvelous when not blackened and the Snail is delicious when baked! The croissants are the best in the city.

I'm still reeling from my experience here - we are visiting from Seattle to celebrate my child's birthday, which happened to be today. We planned a surprise day for her at the Raptor center over an hour away in Duncan BC and had to be there by 10am - because it's in a pretty isolated area you need to bring your lunch with you, so I did some research to find a bakery that was open at 8am that also had premade sandwiches that we could throw in the cooler for our lunch. I was excited to find Fry's Red Wheat Bakery via my internet searching; I called the week before we left and explained our situation and whoever answered the phone there assured me that I could get sandwiches that early and if they weren't in the case already it was no trouble to quickly make us two sandwiches. We arrived at 8: 15am and there weren't sandwiches in the case yet so I asked about them. A man working there said they wouldn't be ready until after 9am. I explained that I had called the week before to check on this and what I'd been told. He said that he wasn't the one who had talked to me last week and no they would not make us two sandwiches. I mentioned that we could wait as late as 8: 45 - could they just throw two together in the next 30 minutes? Again they refused. There were five people working and the whole time we were there only two other customers came in. At least two of the five people were standing there with not much or nothing to do. I explained again that this was basically our only chance at having a lunch as we were on a tight schedule and being unfamiliar with the area I didn't know what else was open with sandwiches at 8am. I asked, could they charge me for sandwiches and just hand me a baguette and some loose fillings so we could make the sandwiches ourselves and again they refused. I spent the next 20 minutes in a panic walking up and down the block and then trying to search for an alternative nearby on my mobile phone using maps. Finally I found a Fol Epi bakery near us. We were thankfully able to make it out to them and to the Raptor center exactly on time so we didn't miss any of it. At Fol Epi they wished my daughter a happy birthday - what a difference! I can't believe that Fry's Red Wheat Bakery was fine with making a 10 year old go without lunch on her birthday for literally no reason. I mean, what kind of people do that?

Cash to debit only, HST not included in listed price. Otherwise cool spot with authentic looking French baked goods!
Also sells reusable muslin cloth bread bags and bento (wrapped tote). On the pricier side

Excellent quality breads, friendly staff. Busy place, bring debit/cash, no credit. Will even reserve your favorite bread for you if you call. Awesome!

Great bread but getting too big for their britches.went for some sour dough sandwich and was told all for wholesale.its spoken for.used to be a great neighborhood place but now?

All wheat, but great selection. Big, fluffy croissants and pain au chocolate, tasty pretzel buns (a hit with my kiddo), amazing other sweet and savoury baked goods.nice hidden gem in a neighbourhood location in Vic West.

Get there early, the best sourdough bread I have ever had.could eat it all day every day, my only complaint is.its too good.

Great bread. European style. Decent price for the quality you get. I love their pain rustique and their rolled pay bread (only on Thursdays).

The product is fantastic as reviewed here but trying to be a regular customer is a frustrating experience. They usually have one person making sales with everyone else working back of house and no one ever stops to help when there is a line. This causes long waits with one person collecting orders and slowly tapping at the machine while customers dig around for exact change, etc. I don't understand the business model as the product is made and sitting there, the bottleneck is getting it out the door! Expect to wait in line, and you will see lots of people take one look at the line and walk away. The other issue is inconsistent hours. There are lots of random closures and holidays which discourages driving out of your way to drop by randomly. If you can catch it open and have the time to stand around for a while you will enjoy the bread.

It's marvelous.
If you are visiting here from abroad, be sure to bring cash. Often, the credit card machine had difficulty with cards from the US. That said, Fry's is wondrous and well worth it: their creations are both traditional and tasty; the texture of all their pastries and loaves of bread are superb.
Fry's makes real bread which is strange to have to say, but trust me: you do not know what you have been missing in the world of baking until you come here. Fry's will make you regret that it is not in your current hometown.

I can't get enough of this place! Their loaves are hearty and delicious. I'm a big fan of the savoury baked goods. Try the mutton roll for a quick snack. Their homemade sandwiches on a baguette are good. Keep an eye on their schedule for pizza and order ahead.

I went for the pretzels and they were amazing. Some great bread available but I haven’t tried it yet. It was well worth the trip and I imagine the other products will be great if they are only half as good as the pretzels.
