Fujiya Foods - Victoria

They recently raised their prices on sushi substantially. For instance the Spicy Tuna Roll was raised from $7.45 to approx $9.50. It seems like most of their sashimi and sushi has gone up 20-30% overnight.

For what it's worth, some items seemed to keep the same prices.

Dine in sushi places around town now represent a better value with these recent price changes.

Probably the best take out sushi in the city. Lots of options for food, and cheaper than you pay anywhere else.

I love this place but I really miss the pork curry bowl they used to sell: (it was my favorite item in the store.

It's the place to go for Japanese imports. Great service every time. They have a delicious selection of take away food as well. It runs out quick, so get there early.

Great selection of grab and go sushi and other items to choose from. It's hard to just buy enough for one meal! Good but small selection of Japanese products as well. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Coming here is always a treat, especially since the sushi and take away food offered here is such a delight for the price point. Great to pick up meats and noodles for hot pot as well.

I love the place and I’ve always come in for various Japanese items since I can’t get them anywhere else on the island, reminds me of home. Today I went in and did my usual circle around, picked up some Japanese groceries for dinner as well as some premade food items (they were really great - karaage, onigiri, takoyaki). When it came time to pay though, I noticed the price for Shabu beef was 20 when entered into the system, I saw it was ~7 dollars on the freezer space but maybe it was by pound, ofcorse I didn’t mind the price, probably mistook the price anyway. However, when I asked to make sure it wasn’t ~7 dollars the cashier at the time was a bit confused and asked another older lady cashier. She said it was 20 and gave me a look. I spent 90 dollars there that day. That look made me feel uncomfortable as if I was trying to scam them and that I was a cheap person? I always spend 70+ dollars there, it made me feel a bit unwelcome.

My GoTo sushi place. I’m here once a week. Here is a request. Please make some of your salmon sushi with Wild BC Salmon and mark the package accordingly. If it costs more…so be it. Let the people decide. I don’t eat farmed salmon.

Love the convenience of picking up a quick bite of great sushi.and other yummy food. Sunamono salad is one of my favorite. Always happy with my choices. One of my go to places!

Best sushi in the city that is still affordable. Just wish they kept making enough for dinners:)

Decent sushi for a decent price. The selection is very good, we really liked the Tempura Yams, Spring Rolls, and Shrimp California Rolls. The Spinach Wrapper Gyoza were absolutely awful, hard miss on those!

Hmm typically pretty good. But the sushi was blah. The oldish tasting fish meh. Eh blah. Nice easy to go. Prices slightly high?

Takeout only, plus Japanese groceries. The sushi is EXCELLENT, will only buy from Fujita when I am in Victoria.

I have loved Fujiya for a long time. I use to live in Vancouver so I used to go to the location on Clark Dr all the time. The location in Victoria is really small so the selection is limited but they do have a few non-food items. The sushi they have is really good and the people that work there are very nice. I'll be going back for sure!

Takeout from Fujiya can't be beat. Fresh, delicious and such good value for money. It's always a treat to grab something there when I'm in town. This location is small so doesn't quite have the variety of Vancouver but the space is used well, and the staff are helpful and nice. I sometimes get a chunk of frozen tuna or salmon or yellowtail for sashimi at home. Or frozen fish cakes to add to ramen. And I pick up other cooking staples as well. Lucky to have it. Thank you Fujiya.

The gold standard by which all other take-away eateries should be judged. If I only had $10 to eat - I would go here every time. Great sushi, incredible variety and choice, awesome value for the buck and the staff are always very nice. I hope they never change. Yes, it's that good.

Nevermind the wait, give yourself $20 and you will get the best food on the island at the best price. My go to

A market which may be small but it is packed with goodies. There's often a large lineup outside of the store but it goes very fast. 5 to 10 minutes is what I waited.

They have everything Asian you can think about there, dashi, kombu, ramen noodles, shoyu, mirin, instant ramen, mochi, umaboshi plume. Really the works.

The sushi there is EXCELLENT. Made fresh daily and it really is lovely.

Not a huge fan of the soy sauce I bought but I'm not worried about it. I would highly recommend the place if you care at all about Asian cooking or sushi!

Amazing atmosphere, staff and food! I adore this place line get get a little long but it's definitely worth it!

Fujiya is great for getting a quick fix of good quality food at great prices. They have a good selection of sushi and sashimi, as well as some rice dishes and bento boxes. The store is small and crowded but the staff does a great job managing the number of people inside.

For a quick in and out sushi place.this place is awesome. You are better of getting what you want earlier as to get it as fresh as it gets. The service is always friendly and quick.

Could I give more than 5 stars for customer service?

While running into car trouble and not being able to drive out of the parking lot for the afternoon, evening, and into the next morning, the owner personally came out to see if I needed help or a jump. Unfortunately it was a mechanical issue and needed a mobile repair person to fix it.

That didn't stop the owner from offering me some sympatric free sushi and beverage and indicating they wouldn't call the tow company. His manner and friendliness as well as kind gesture of offering free sushi made a frustrating car break down a bit more bearable.

Already great food, but a great example of going above and beyond. He absolutely won over another loyal customer for life.

Had my favourite Chicken Karage today & was inedible (chicken dry & lots of skin only) & this 3rd time I have found this item not up to standard!

No other place you should be going for take out sushi in the area. Maybe just for sushi in general. Very fresh and good value.

Great selection of Japanese food! Little small so you have a bit of a line to wait in but it's worth it. Parking lot is pretty small.

Really yummy, ready to eat and reasonably priced sushi. There are vegan and vegetarian options available regularly. The groceries are well curated and everything I have tried has been tasty and good quality. The staff are among the nicest and most polite in the city for sure:)

Small store, but cheap and delicious authentic Japanese food and products! Lots of food items made in-house (sushi, rice bowls, etc).

Review: After my second visit I had to lower my rating because some of the workers keep walking around to watch you obviously to see if you're stealing, makes you feel uncomfortable and judged. Maybe it's a area where their happens but to keep walking on each side of the aisle you're in and looking away when you look at them makes for an unpleasant experience.

Many options, fresh and delicious sushi. I didn't try many sushi restaurants but this one is the best so far!

You would be challenged to find a better place to get top quality sushi at their amazingly low price! Seriously you could walk in with $20 and leave with a sushi mound of food! Only downside of their Victoria location is the minimal amount of parking. Bus service stops conveniently right outside however!

I’ve always had a pleasant experience at this store but unfortunately I am becoming more hesitant to support the store as I find there is an
unnecessary amount of plastic packaging and other waste that comes along with their fresh food. Each roll comes in its own containers, with extra plastic bags (for leak prone items), and individually wrapped chopsticks, soy sauce, wasabi etc. This creates EXTREME waste that can be easily minimized if perhaps they encouraged people to bring their own containers, or swapped their plastics for biodegradable containers! With the amount of packaging that comes with a few rolls I can only imagine that immense mound of plastic that must pile up each day as this joint is so popular. I and many others hope that fujiya takes this to heart and works to become more sustainable so we can continue supporting this wonderful little store!

Had my first visit to Fujiya Foods today and I was very pleased with the selection. For a person my size the place was a little thought to navigate but it did seem to be quite busy so may be part of it, I also had difficulty finding prices on certain items like the natto for example. Otherwise it was a great experience and I will definitely be back I am currently enjoying some Eby Fry and Inari sushi from Fujiya and it is fantastic!

Tons of products you can't find elsewhere and at good prices. I was able to also find some vegan options.

People! The food here is INCREDIBLE! AMAZING! SUPER INEXPENSIVE!

I loooove Fujiya. They have a great selection of Japanese food. If you're looking to find somewhere to stock up your kitchen with Japanese things, you've found it. They're also have a great selection of takeout sushi at a good price. You might have to pay 2-3x more at other places. I also haven't mentioned how nice everybody is at the store. Everyone is always smiling and so happy. Always add Fujiya on your shopping list.

Great selection of japanese foods and decent prices. Recently (2 years or so) quality has gone down and price has gone up.

My daughters were really keen to make their own sushi and a staff member was really helpful, walking us around the store and helping pick out the right type of rice, nori, rolling mats, fish, etc. The sushi turned out pretty great, and my girls were thrilled.

Amazingly tasty and fairly priced sushi. They also carry a bunch of great imported sweets and goods, so if enjoy Japanese candies, you should certainly come here.

Great food but it's so small that it's awkward to shop when there are more than a few people in the store

Small japanese grocery store. Their kikoman shoyu is the US version found everywhere else! That was a bummer but over all nice to have access to some authentic japanese products if you want then.

This is a only place bigger food item food store.i go here every months or every two months. Especially frash made sushi was so delicious and good price. Cheaper than go to the restaurant. 持ち帰りの新鮮な寿司や弁当わとても美味しくそして安いのでです。レストランに行くよりわずーと安く。美味しさは レストランと同じですよ。

It's take out sushi, any reviewer who says this is their go to has limited experience with sushi. (Bland spicy tuna roll) Everything else is fine, staff are courteous ect. You can't fault the business model. No doubt this place is profitable because of volume and service speed.

Best place to get frozen mackerel. Best price and quality. They also have really high quality incredible brown sushi rice in big bags here!
