My gf has gone here for a while but is canceling her membership because her last experience was so bad she completely had enough. Super strict and annoyingly obsessed with rules. Expect to hear the same lectures over and over, expect to be told to stop and wait even though you know what you're doing. Expect to have your products thrown away even if you are unable to pick up and provided ample notification. Do not expect "community" from this place. Stay away

I was a complete beginner when I started taking classes here and have learned so much. The instructors go over everything (techniques, technical aspects, etc.) and are very patient so everyone can go at their own pace. They want to make sure that you become well acquainted with the basics, which reduces the frustration when learning more advanced techniques.

I was a bit anxious at first going to drop in because I didn't know anyone and there's a lot of rules for clean up, but all of the instructors and members were so friendly and welcoming that I quickly fell into the routine. The studio is clean and it feels safe since the doors lock once the classes/drop-in starts. If you're even a little interested trying pottery, I highly recommend checking this studio out!

I love this studio. It's beautiful, bright with natural light, fun and inclusive. I have taken three workshops - all the teachers were wonderful. They demonstrated patience, care and were helpful which supported my growth at the right speed. They have done an excellent job at creating a community within the studio and as such is a fun, inclusive and supportive environment. I have also met other really amazing members here. The owner, Gabrielle, is a super star - she is friendly, welcoming and talented! I tried many studios before finding Community. Can't recommend this studio enough!

I took a hand building class this summer and it was a great weekend activity! The class was small, around six people, which meant we got a lot of support, tips and tricks from our instructor as well as a lot of space to work across the tables. The studio is also in a great location in Vancouver and easy to access. I'm now doing drop in sessions to build on my wheel throwing and everyone is always super friendly and open to offering help. Not to mention, there's so much great work on display by other artists and students to inspire me at the studio!

I completed the beginner plus course with Myriam and had a really great experience. She is an excellent teacher and I noticed a huge improvement in my throwing techniques within a few weeks. By the end of the course I had made some pieces that I am really proud of and even felt confident enough to become a member! The studio itself is beautiful and spacious, I would highly recommend to anyone!

Expect lots of rules and attitude from the owner. You're also expected to know their complicated booking system in and out, if you get charged by mistake it's on you and don't you dare ask for a refund.

Items were lost, items were threatened to be thrown away when my family was sick with covid, they only offered me strict pick up times during rush hour only, and it was expensive. Lovely studio but very dusty, I’m at a studio that’s much cleaner now with more flexible hours and happy with it. Also very limited parking options in the area!

Booked a class and the instructor was very discouraging. Every time we asked for help she would just repeat herself without explaining more in depth. She wasn’t very friendly either, I wasn’t going to say anything but paying over $200 for that was not okay. We also spent 30 minutes after and we’re only given 5 options for colour and allowed to keep two pieces. Everything was super rushed. When we went to pick it up weeks later. A different girl told us we needed an appointment to pick up our stuff. She then closed the door and walked away. We went back and asked for our stuff, then she gave it to us.

Deciding to take courses at community clay was one of the best decisions I ever made. I’ve taken 2 wheel courses so far; both with Myriam; and I absolutely intend to take more. Myriam is an extremely talented potter and teacher, I found that she gave very thorough demonstrations and easy to understand instruction. The class sizes aren’t very big either so it’s very easy to get help when you find yourself confused or stuck. As a bonus, Myriam is also funny and an absolute delight to be around. I found myself looking forward to my pottery class each week and I’m continuing to look forward to taking another when I get the chance.

My friend and I did a beginner's workshop here last Saturday and we had such a fun experience. Gabrielle and Nicole taught us well, were patient, and were both easy to talk to. If you're curious about pottery and taking some classes, I'd definitely recommend trying their workshops first, it was definitely worth it.

A very fun and welcoming studio! I came with zero pottery experience, and was lucky to have Gabrielle as my instructor for a beginner wheel throwing course. She is a very dedicated teacher, and really cares about helping her students to develop not only their skills for throwing, but also their love and appreciation for clay. Would absolutely recommend!

Really cute studio & great instructors!:) I recommend this place to anyone interested in learning more about clay & wheel throwing. I started out knowing nothing, and now I am progressing and making cute items! Great for de-stressing & letting your creative side shine.

Personally, didn’t really feel the ‘community ‘ vibe. Beautiful studio though and great location. My experience wasn’t a positive one and sadly will not be returning.

I can’t say enough good things about Community Clay! I was always interested in taking pottery lessons but felt nervous about taking on something I had never tried before. The space itself is so beautiful and feels like a comfortable, safe space to practise solo or to get more involved in classes. So far, I have taken 2 sets of classes and the improvement over those few months was crazy and so much more than I expected. My instructor, Myriam, was amazing and so good at meeting the students at their own level and pace. She was so great at instructing that I never felt overwhelmed. I now have a membership and am so excited to spend time at the studio every time I’m there! If you’re considering trying out classes but are unsure then I 100% recommend taking the leap and going for it!

I’ve taken two wheel courses and had great experiences learning from Jackie and Mitra. I am now a member and love coming into the bright, airy studio. I’ve come to really appreciate the focus on cleanliness — the equipment is always in great condition. Gabrielle is attentive and works hard to maintain the studio. I had no prior knowledge of ceramics but coming here is now one of the things I look forward to the most. Highly recommend signing up for a course!

The studio is super cozy, the team helped me to reschedule a class and it was super thoughful with all my needs. I loved my teacher Raissa, her class was really fun, she answered all my questions and was very attended to our projects to make sure we were in the right path. I really recommend to book at least a class to have an amazing experience. Already planning my next one!

The studio is a good place but i didn't find the intermediate classes very helpfull. The classes are two and a half hours and the demonstrations take up around one hour.they are frankly boring and unnecessary.you are basically watching someone repeatedly throw a bowl.watching a youtube video is faster and more helpfull? And the last half hour is clean up which is understandable but leaves you with one hour of throwing time which is nothing. And they make any excuse they can to charge more money. Overall I didn't enjoy my time in this class but the studio itself is clean and airy.

I have been working with the team at Community Clay for 8 months and I love walking into the space. The plants, the lighting and always laughter welcome me every time. The team is lovely, helpful and there's an inclusiveness I always feel in their presence. I highly recommend taking a workshop and seeing the fun in action!

Going to this studio is always the highlight of my week! I’ve taken classes and use the membership and have nothing but positives to say about it. The membership is the most affordable in Vancouver, the teachers are all so helpful, and the space itself is beautiful. There’s no other place I’d rather go, and if I could give it 10 stars, I would!

I have multiple pieces from Community Clay Inc.and they have quickly become my favourites! The bowls and plates are super well made and look beautiful.
15 September 2022 3:59
Thank you Myriam for being so amazing! The studio is a delightful experience all around. So excited to graduate to beginner plus!
10 September 2022 17:59
Great studio. Myriam the instructor is so creative really knows what she's doing! She makes the whole experience that much better.

This is a fantastic pottery studio. I took a class with Jackie who is a wonderful teacher and provides detailed, clear instructions and guidance as you progress through the classes. The space is big and airy and beautifully laid out. Other students are respectful and friendly. A great place to learn and build on your skills over time. Highly recommended!
27 August 2022 14:58
Loved the glazing technology workshop run by Jackie! Super informative but taught in such an accessible way. Thanks:)
23 August 2022 0:18
I took my first throwing class with Jackie! She's an excellent instructor who gives tailored tips to each person based on the challenges they're facing. I love coming to this studio:)
21 August 2022 12:09
Great studio, great community feel! I started in a hand building class for beginners 5 months ago. Nicole, the instructor, was very knowledgeable, encouraging, and a great teacher. After then, I’ve tried the beginner’s wheel throwing. Anthony, the instructor, was equally knowledgeable, encouraging, and took the time with us one-on-one to answer questions and help build specific skills. Their drop ins are a great way to practice on your own and meet other potters. I would highly recommend this studio! They’ve done a great job building a community!

Amazing studio. Very thoughtful and thorough teachers. Wonderful vibe. Great experience. Thank you Gabrielle and Myriam for making this such a positive experience.

This studio is simply amazing. They offer great opportunities to learn and practice pottery at different levels. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I started from beginner course with Mitra who is extremely talented and a wonderful teacher. Overall, Great environment and supportive people. I wish they offered more glazing workshops though:)
31 July 2022 14:17
I came to pick up my things 30 minutes earlier then they open. Gabriela, the owner of the studio, saw me, but only opened 10 minutes later. I apologized and asked to come in to quickly pick up my pottery. She notified me that they open in 20 minutes. I explained that I have a child and a husband waiting for me in the car, then she left to ask someone if she could let me in, another few minutes and she has let me in. Then she started asking me questions about which class I took, who told me about the pick up rules, whether I read the rules, which day I came in to pick up last time. When she noticed I was getting stressed, she explained to me that I am disturbing and she wants to get to the bottom of why I was under impression that I can come to pick up at 5: 30.
After I grabbed a paper towel to wrap my plates, she asked me not to take any towels because it’s wasteful. She was standing next to me the whole time I was picking up my things from the shelf and kept asking me details of my logic.
She let me in earlier but the amount of scolding I took for this is unprofessional to say the least. Yes, I got the time of pick up wrong, but is it really reasonable to treat your customer this way. I felt attacked, she was very unkind.

I highly recommend this studio. The space is fantastic - light, airy, clean. But it's the people that work there that make it - the instructors, leadership team, techs. I've taken a number of sets of both their wheel and hand building classes and can't recommend them enough if you're interested in either starting a ceramic practice, getting back into it after a number of years, or deepening your practice. TIP: If you want to supercharge your pottery experience, consider taking a private lesson with Gabrielle! They're excellent.

I have been to 4 studios to wheel throw and all of them in Van have been great but CC is special. On a base membership currently just finishing up my first month and I am exceptionally happy with everything. Gabrielle the owner is genuinely one of the most caring pleasant to deal with people I have ever met. Like it looks like she has also responded to every review on here. This studio is amazing. I love the business model and everything in practice is just amazing. They really commit to the closed loop process of ceramic making and the foundation of the practice. The studio is super cute and spacious and unique. Love it at Community Clay soooooo much.:) I can't wait to be able to take a class and further my skills with their workshops:)
13 May 2022 21:16
I'd definitely recommend this studio for anyone wanting to get involved with ceramics, whether it be complete beginner or someone wanting to continue previous skills. The team at community clay always make you feel welcome and the smaller class sizes allow more one on one insight into new skills. Added bonus is they always have new glaze colours to try out!

Community Clay (formerly G Ceramic and Co) is an amazing ceramics studio in a bright and spacious location. They are a short walk from the Canada line and several bus routes. For those that drive, plenty of street parking can be found on side streets near by. The studio is very clean and everyone in the studio has been very friendly. All workshops and courses offered are in small classes to allow for focused time with your instructor. My first class was with the amazing Mitra M who could answer any question and demo anything anyone requested in an expert fashion. Gabrielle who I took a workshop and a subsequent course with was also very knowledgeable and helped to push not only my skills but I saw rapid improvements in the skills of every student each week. I now have a new addiction, pottery, and I have the wonderful staff at Community Clay to thank for it!

I was so happy and looking forward to pottery! I went to this studio for an intro course in the summer, while the teachers and the studio atmosphere was lovely, one of the owners had a rude attitude towards me (same as the review before this), whenever I'd ask a question or say hi she would just look at me rudely or ignore me and start talking to the other owner. Multiple times. However Melissa the other owner was great at communications and was kind! Thank you Melissa.

I joined Community Clay June 2021 and found my second home. I have taken 6 series of classes with Mitra - amazing, fun, talented teacher - highly recommend. The studio is always evolving, with a constant ear to clients, always looking for ways to provide more for the community. I’ve made some wonderful friends here and it truly is a community. ALSO, they have so many classes - it took me two years to find a studio in this city and am grateful it was CC that I got in with!

I have had such an amazing few months learning from the incredible teachers at Community Clay!:)

The studio is wonderful - spacious and full of natural light - and all the instructors are incredibly talented. I definitely recommend trying various classes/workshops, as each teacher has shared their unique skills & tips that have collectively helped me learn so much in a relatively short period of time.

Importantly, as the name implies, there is also a strong sense of 'community' here. You'll come in to make beautiful mugs, pots, etc.and come out with new friends too! <3

Got introduced to wheelthrowing almost 2 years ago at Community Clay! Been hooked since! Lovely place
03 February 2022 1:53
Fantastic pottery classes! Was so cool to work with a wheel for the first time and Miriam was a great instructor. Class size was reasonably small and felt very safe covid-wise.

Absolutely loved and enjoyed the classes at G ceramics. My instructor in particular was so dedicated to help us learn and become passionate about pottery. I am hooked! Also grateful that it was such a beautiful space - it was perfect to unwind and enjoy something you love doing.

I haven't seen it mentioned so it might be an aspect of the studio that is work in progress. The glazing class - disappointingly it's a very restrictive time slot without getting deep into the techniques. At the time there were four attendees, most of us glazed less than 4 items.a few of us definitely forego cleaning drips and mess ups. One even threw out a piece as a lost cause. I think it's due to the fact that for the glazing drop-in, they let the students in right on the dot or a moment after. Considering that we need to line up to wash our hands, wash the stations, wash the boards and bring out the buckets, it was closer to 20 mins of quick dipping, then the next group of students are let in while we hurriedly try to clean up. Perhaps leaving more time in between classes will allow the students to find their bisque items and clean the stations to begin. We took it in strides, but we definitely laughed at our own mess ups while we were warned the next group is coming in.

Also hope in the future there will be more signs and direction for whenever the shelving shifts or where items are relocated, understanding there are unspoken rules and annoyances to staff.

If you read this far! The classes are worth it, hope you get a great experience and don't get in trouble lol

I took a one night intro to wheel ceramics class and really enjoyed it! The class size was small (8) so the instructor was able to give everyone personal attention where they got stuck. At the end of it everyone in the class had a couple pieces that would be fired and glazed by the staff after the workshop. A really fun experience!

I really love the large open studio space especially during covid. Teachers and community members are very friendly and bonus stars for being a pet friendly environment.

I started going to g ceramics at the beginning of 2021 and have been hooked ever since. The teachers are so kind and helpful and I was able to improve on the craft so quickly here. Going into the studio once a week to work on pottery with them has been the highlight of my year:)

Gabrielle is incredibly gifted and creative. She is also an amazing teacher, I learnt so much from her:)

Great, functional, classic, tasteful pottery by an experienced craftsperson. I've bought a number of pieces from Gabrielle over the years and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her pottery which always looks great and works well.

Gabrielle is a skilled professional and an excellent teacher. Her work is truly inspiring and the beautiful pottery pieces she makes are coveted by all! I have taken several pottery classes with Gabrielle and I have learned so much about pottery and I continue to develop my skill set at every class in a supportive, fun and creative environment. I would highly recommend taking pottery classes with Gabrielle!
