There are gyms within a couple of blocks for half the price or less on Marine Drive (Fit4Less & Planet Fitness) that are less busy, have more parking nearby and have newer equipment.

This gym is mainly used by local gangsters and drug dealers. If you don't have two sleeves worth of tattoos, you will feel very out place here.

Boxing gym is great. I've only had a great experience getting coaching here. The best part is it's open all day and there's no specific class times like in other gyms. This makes it easy to attend specially if you have unpredictable schedules at work/school. You pretty much get one on one style training with coaches which gives you the most value out of your sessions.

Not pleased at all with the management and how I was treated as a long time member.

Without any notification I was charged extra fees (multiple times), and when I inquired about the extra charges I was told that it is not their problem as they deal with a third party company to manage their billings.

I tried to reach out to the third party company (ABC Fitness), but of course there is no way to contact them, it is an automated service which no option to speak to an actual representative. I looked into ABC and turns out they have a lot of complaints about extra charges and continuously charging clients.

Long story short, they were rude and uncooperative so I ended up cancelling my membership after being forced to pay a bunch of extra fees. They blocked my email address after I requested to cancel my membership so I had to follow up by calling them several times to make sure they would stop charging my card. Very unprofessional.

So much for supporting a local business.

I joined Genesis Boxing club as a newbie and am glad i did! The coaches are passionate about helping their trainees progress, and will customize training to suite each individual's needs. These workouts are not only a great form of cardio, but will teach you a valuable life skill, should it ever come down to it. But remember, with great power comes great responsibility.

Facility is awesome and I love it.
However, I had an unfortunate encounter with the “owner” who displayed unprofessional and aggressive behavior towards me when he yelled at me at the front desk. It is my sincere hope that he receives the help he needs to address any issues that may be impacting his behavior. The incident occurred because his staff overlooked my parking pass sticker, which was a minor inconvenience.

Super busy, noisy and weights are not the best; also unorganized.
Having said that, good variety of equipment and machines so you dont need to wait in line to train.

Superb gym: joined a year ago after
Moving to the North Shore; now open at 5 am weekdays, huge space with great lighting, friendly staff, clean, tons of equipment, well-organized, good ventilation - one of the best gyms in BC, I’d say!

This is a good gym with a variety of machines, although the equipment is pretty old. They have recently changed the lighting system. If they improve the ventilation/HVAC system, I can say the best gym in North Vancouver.

I really like improvements they have made to the gym recently. The lighting is so much better now and its nice to be able to workout till 11pm at night. They also upgraded the bench pads. Really excited and looking forward to more equipment upgrades and replacements. Hopefully some new machines members have been requesting!

I personally love this gym and have been going on and off for the better part of 15 years. I'd love to give it a 5/5 but realistically it's lacking in a few key areas.

Pros:
- If you are into bodybuilding/powerlifting this is by far the best gym on the north shore (if you're even comparing this place to Fit4Less like some other reviews, I can guarantee this isn't the place for you)
- It has the best equipment, variety of equipment, and high numbers of duplicate equipment for when it's busy
- women's only section
- new lights make it a lot less of a dungeon than it was previously
- the people who train here are generally friendly and there's a pretty cool sense of community that's unique to this gym

Cons
- higher price and extra fees that are not really justified based on amenities/location/age of equipment
- annual maintenance fee doesn't seem to be spent on maintenance of the equipment
- incredibly busy from 4-7pm
- gets pretty damn hot in the summer
- classic "gym" smell (s)

This gym is one of the most expensive membership in the Northshore, but despite that the Gym is also the darkest Gym in the World.and thats just the truth. I guess they are trying to save electricity but the Lighting is just terrible especially in the night time. The gym is massive with few lights turned on? ! Its a joke.

I believe a good gym should have at least decent lighting. But its the opposite. DARRRRRKKNESS:)

Best powerlifting and bodybuilding gym in north shore. Has nearly every equipment imaginable.
Could be a bit better on the machine maintanence tho.

BEST GYM on the North Shore! Amazing layout for working out! Especially love how there is a BOXING GYM upstairs. The friendly STAFF go above and beyond. Did a boxing session and Shawne, the coach, was extremely knowledgeable, inspiring and helpful-the reason why I'm a regular. He totally helped me get to my goals. Gotta check it out!

I’ve been to several gyms on the North Shore and Genesis is undoubtedly the best I’ve gone to both in terms of the extensive facilities they provide and the quality of the staff. The boxing in particular is one of the top reasons I have stuck with this gym and the coach is really experienced, versatile, and creates a fun learning environment.

The best gym in North Vancouver hands down. I really enjoy their boxing gym and they have the best trainers for boxing and fitness. Great gym.

My experience with this club is it’s for filthy people and should be shut down for lack of cleanliness. The men’s bathroom is disgusting, the urinals haven’t been cleaned in ages and the stench is horrible. As far as for the public health, this business should be closed.

I have been going to this gym and training clients here for over 2 years. I switched from Club 16 and have never looked back since. Their staff is very friendly and professional. Their machines are 2nd to none with literally thousands of machines including many you can’t find anywhere else. The members are also friendly and chill so it’s a good vibe there. This is my iron church for sure! High recommend, you won’t regret it. Thank me later

Most equipment I’ve ever seen in a gym, no lineups to squat or bench- it’s a bit like heaven. Making a good effort with covid precautions and there’s a boxing club inside- what more could you possibly want?

Their sanitization efforts and upkeep during covid has been the best I've seen. Love the more private women's section also.

Great gym! Friendly staff, all the machines and weights you need, large square footage and nice atmosphere. I love doing my workouts here!

Overall really impressed! The staff are great to deal with, the people using the gym are all friendly and considerate. The gym has every possible piece of equipment you could want! Lots of racks and benches!

Their cleanliness is second to none! They have dividers between the equipment, give everyone their own spray bottle with cloth, and you constantly see staff disinfecting all the equipment every 15 minutes or so! You can tell they don’t want a COVID-19 shut down.

The owners and staff seem to really care about the place! Definitely recommend this gym!

Great gym! Massive amount of space. Huge variety of equipment and barbells, KettleBells, Wallballs.you name it they got it. New management is doing a great job with adapting to the new rules etc. Keep up the great work guys!

This gym is so awesome. Great mix of old school equipment and new school stuff. Awesome staff and great job during COVID recovery.

Terrible customer service. Management never responds. I cancelled my contract and am now having to go through my bank or lawyers to have them stop payments.

Had a membership here for over a year. In terms of equipment it was actually pretty good. They continued to upgrade the equipment during the entire time I had a membership.

Some of the staff I found friendly and some of the staff was incredibly rude. Jordan at the front desk was one of the best. Always said hi and was always very friendly. They then hired a new girl who literally sits on her phone texting the entire time and doesn't even look up when anyone would walk in. She almost would get annoyed if you would ask a question.
This gym is more meant for power lifters so if that's for you, you would most likely enjoy it. The owners are always in the gym working out and seem to be friendly.

As per a few comments below the bathrooms are pretty bad, they definitely need a facelift. What really rubbed me the wrong way was for one the price point. $40 a month was a bit rediculous along with a few hidden fees they try to charge you for. The little plastic scanning card that attaches to your keys, ya don't lose it or they will charge you a whopping $10. I lost it twice because over a year it simply just falls off and they charged me for it twice and were extremely rude about the situation. A few of the staff and a few of the members in the gym as well were a bit let's say out there, screaming in the gym and pounding their chest after power lifting is a bit distracting.

In the end I ended up signing up with the rec center as it's $33 per month and you also get access to the pool, hot tub, steam room, racquet ball courts, open gym area for basketball, ping pong and multiple free classes that you can sign up for at anytime. The gym itself has all the equipment I need as well and if you lose the little plastic thing on your keys it's free to replace it. Go figure.

Giving this place 3 stars as it's mediocre at best.

I’m a current member and wouldn’t recommend this gym! The equipment is old and tired and much of it needs replacing. The gym is grungy and the men’s changing room is filthy, especially the shower which hasn’t been cleaned in eons. The whole place needs an extreme makeover and a really good clean!: o (

Ever since Genesis was sold to new owners, they've really made some major improvements to the gym such as new equipment, decor, and whatnot as well as changes to the music. Overall a great gym and the new owners are super friendly.

Awesome staff. Lots of equipment with everything you would want. Wish there was more room for laying down mats and doing abs, but they have greatly reduced that, making it awkward to put a mat down anywhere and do abs

Only went to the gym because it was nearby, didn’t know what to expect.it ended up being one of the best gyms in Vancouver! Has all the equipment you’d ever need. Great for power lifters and bodybuilders alike. Awesome gym, will come back.

The gym is not bad for an older gym but it’s pretty filthy and needs to be sanitized and cleaned.

Went here on a Friday drop-in with some friends in downtown. They come here on fridays for workouts. It's a nice change from my small gym and it has everything that you'll need in a gym. Thanks to Jordan in the front desk for getting us in.

Best selection of equipment in North Vancouver. Super friendly vibe and never too busy that you can't make the most of your workout!

Most unhygienic gym facility I have even been in. The bathroom is absolutely disgusting. Would not even touch a thing. The new management obviously hasn’t hired a cleaner and hasn’t been taking care of it. Would not recommend anyone to go here if you value your gym being clean. Very unprofessional and upsetting as this has been a hub for fitness on the north shore for a very long time. Loved this facility before it’s a shame the new management doesn’t know how to keep the place even remotely clean. Will be taking my clients to another facility on the north shore after taking at look inside here.
