Beautiful place! We went in January, it went to sunny to a snowstorm in 15 minutes so be careful and prepared! This place is probably amazing during summer time!
Wow! Beautiful place for a variety of hikes best suited to personal interests & abilities. Off-season doesn't require day permits. Road to Gold Creek, beyond the campground, is rough!
This is a very huge park with several camp grounds, lots of hiking and beaches.lots of parking available, water is very clean, There are lots of boats and kayaks on the lake and a few jet skis, Its only an hour drive from vancouver which is worth to see the beautiful nature. I prefer to go in the morning so you can get a nice spot.lots of camping area.
Did the East Canyon Trail up from the parking lot and cam down the Connector to Gold Creek Falls. Great trip, the connector is fun, but this is not something to go down if you a) have poor balance and might get nervous or b) are not willing to slide down on you bum a bit if a) applies.
An excellent destination for hiking, camping, picnic, outing etc for all ages. Awesome views of mountains, trees, lakes and waterfall. Some areas are great for outdoor swimming. Easy access by cars or bikes. Free entrance.
This is one of my family's favorite place for camping. Allouette lake is very nice lake for swimming, canoeing, fishing and relaxing. Lowe falls trails is a must see place. Only 45 min walk in easy trail to the fall. Old, green forests and crystal clear river.
Great place to be any time of year. Going for a picnic with the family, try near the boat launch, great area with lots of tables and grassy area. Wish they would reopen the washroom but for now port a pottys are there. (Stupid pandemic).
Going with a group of adults then head up to the far beach past the camp grounds. A short 10-15 min walk will land you at the beach where its more adult style. Want a place on the river you best come early.
Amazing park. Great for hiking, for families to hang out, and dog owners to take their pups for a hike/walk. You get views of the mountains, water, trees, and waterfalls.
This hike was absolutely unreal! You get a nice mix of flat and elevation, some tricky paths that get a bit narrow and muddy but overall it is a very pleasant hike. There are some pretty beautiful view points that even with the rain and fog made the entire trip enjoyable. The waterfalls are a must see as is the viewpoint with the view of the mountain peaks (I didn’t see them due to the bad weather but it still made for a stunning experience). There is lots of drinking water on the first part of the trail. The trees are unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Highly recommend!
Nice family friendly park with playgrounds and lake area to swim in. Washrooms are maintained often so pretty clean. Friendly service. Close to the city. All makes for a nice quick getaway.
Whatever booking system they are using, it's not working. Waaaay too many empty sites not being used all during the week. FAR more families could be enjoying!
So many options every time I go to Golden Ears. This time we camped at Hemlock campgrounds, which provides access to another beautiful portion of Alouette Lake
Easily of the best lakes around BC to visit with family. Can be very relaxing but obviously can get crowded soon. Go early and take day pass for parking.
I get why this place is hard to book, wow it’s amazing, free hot showers, drinking water and a nice beach, spacious sites that don’t feel crowded and feel private, everything is well cared for and right in the city.
Beautiful gem tucked locally into the lower mainland. Many activities from boating to hiking to floating down the alouette River. Something for everyone!
Can't believe how big this park is! We stayed at Alouette lake campground for two nights and it rained the whole time: (We made it to the lower falls trail but a lot of the other ones were too muddy at this time!
The park is great! Lots of amazing forest to view and play in. The campgrounds are well spaced out and seem to be extremely well cared for. The walk to the lake from the alouette campground is a quaint trail that takes the average family 7-12mins
Very beautiful scenery one hour away from Vancouver. On the weekends you better get there EARLY, as the Alouette beach can get very busy. Still, it is a great place to enjoy a summer day! This park also has an amazing structure for front country camping! I camped one night at Gold Creek campground in late May. A lot of options for day activities with lots of trails, creeks and beaches.
Will be nice if BC parks installs a cellphone antenna at least for emergency purposes instead of thousands of useless covid related signs. In case of a medical emergency or fire it is not possible to contact 911
Great place with lots of kids, no power and a small hike to lake which was beautiful. We picked hottest weekend on record and survived so pretty nice place.
This is a beautiful place with lots of trails through beautiful nature, there is access to Alouette lake and it's very peaceful. There are three separate campgrounds with showers available and running water. There is also a large day picnic area with a excellent view of the lake and the mountains surrounding it, I highly recommend going there in the off season to enjoy this place without all the crowds that are here in the summer.
On last weekend of summer we watched the campground fill up with families. On the first Friday night we saw numerous large fires with sparks and useing wood. These were not propane fires they were live fires while there was a fire ban. When we saw this and because it rained we saw in our opinion that it was OK to start a small Presto Log. Because we were persons on disability we were singled out over all others and evucted from the camp while our bigeted nighbors who wanted us gone sat by and gloted while watching struggled to pack. Some of us had not camped ever in years and we had a very first ever opportunitiy. But like everywhere in our society we are judged. Ive worked for 26 years and paid my taxes. Lived in Maple Ridge my whole life. Ithink it was disgraceful the way we were treated. Just because we were not a perfect little family with Kids.
South Beach Campground Great campsites, quiet, private and large but campsites and washrooms needed attention. The high standard of provincial campsites sadly was not met this time.
Alouette lake is a really nice lake. We got there at about 915am and most picnic tables were still available. At 10 it started to get busy and at about 1030 all the picnic tables were taken. There's plenty of space however to lay on on the grass and of course plenty at the beach.
Golden Ears is.a difficult 24 km hike with a 1500 m elevation gain on a mixed terrain ranging from easy walk in the park (the first 4 km) to rugged steep forest and scrambles along the ridge to the summit in the Alpine. Most people do it as an overnight hike. However, it can be done in one day by fit hikers. It took us about 11 hours to hike it in one day. There is a marked scrambly trail from the emergency shelter to the summit along the ridge avoiding snow from the left-hand side. Shortcuts on the snow may lead to more technical and exposed scrambles.
Took my motorcycle up here and the road is intense. I was going about 120 around a turn then it turned instantly to gravel, scared the daylights out of me. The actual park is good too, right on the lake
We really like Golden Ears Provincial Park. The park is not that far from the city, yet it feels somehow secluded. The day area offers plenty of picnic tables by the beach, bathrooms, but no concession stand. They sell water, pop and prepackaged ice-creams at the canoe and kayak rental place. Great place to rent a kayak with usually calm waters. The beach has a swim only area which is great for kids. At the other end of the lake, there is a short hike (1 km) that will take you to the North beach, a calmer area with beautiful scenery.
Extremely busy during weekends, avoid going in weekends, twice in a row gate was closed and rangers didn’t let anybody go in due to huge crowds in the park!
We always love camping here and the dogs love it as well. Sites are well kept and you can get some nice semi private ones since there are lots of trees in between. We always enjoy spending time down at the beaches and the water or creeks.
Another treasure of Canadian and British Columbia's natural beauty. Visit and camp for a few days or just a picnic day trip to Alouette Lake. Know that you won't be disappointed and will be physically and psychologically healthier when you exit the park, as opposed to when to entered. There are many great trails for hikers. Sadly the cost of a simple campsite and the expensive firewood sold at the park, makes a true camping trip too expensive for the increasing majority of lower income families. Nonetheless, we must visit and be vigilant to keep these treasures of nature. Please leave the park or your campsite in pristine condition. Too many improper disposal habits or pure litter by inconsiderate visitors can ruin the park over time. Have fun and leave your cell phone at home.
We go camping here once per year. Having such a great camping park so close to the lower mainland is such a jewel. The facilities are always well maintain. Thank you for all you hard work.
As a park full of features and natural wonders it cannot be beat. There is simply too many fantastic things to list.
Most campsites are fully forested with little sun. I love that personally. Super dark at night. Absolutely zero road or city noise. MID week it is the most awesome place to be. We spend a lot of weekday time there.
The not so good;
Because it is a BC lower Mainland park and close to highly urbanized areas there simply no way to get away from the party idiots and the noisy boom box heros. Don't expect the park operator to do anything about the noise on weekends, they seem to run and hide on Friday and Saturday nights.
Speaking of rule enforcement this park is rampant with dogs off leash, smokers everywhere, generators running any time of day and general unruly behavior by a few (It's a large park so a few idiots have a massive impact).
The park OP has a hard time even keeping the washrooms clean especially on weekends.
This is not a rant about the operator this being the largest urban park in BC and so close the the local idiot breeding grounds no one could possibly keep it sane. Consequently, weekends are the worst time to be there.
Cell coverage is almost non-existent in the campsites and security patrols are spotty at night. It's a long drive to the nearest hospital or police station so emergency help is a risk.
I had a great time camping here. Campsites are spacious and lots of room between sites. My family rented three sites and that allowed 5 grandkids to run around between our sites where we could keep an eye on them. During the day we would head down to the lake for some fun in the water. At night it was smores over a propane fire pit (fire ban in effect so no wood burning allowed). At night hardly any mosquitos at all. The best part is no cell service which truly allows you to get away from it all. We had a fantastic time.
This park is a treasure for outdoor recreation and natural attractions. Well organized camping with access to the huge lake. Warm water for swimming and Gold Creek is a great place to cool off and enjoy the sun.
