Luc and Ivan were awesome to deal with. I have used them many times over the years and the latest issue was a "malfunctioning" pull start on my lawn mower. They did their best to repair the existing pull start module to keep my costs down, but in the end determined that a new starter module was required and we are good to go again!

My boyfriend dropped his saw off here in November. He has called repeatedly and they were "waiting" for a part. The part came in 2 months ago now and it was the wrong part. Haven't heard a thing from them since. This was supposed to be a 3 week turn around and here we are in summer, still needing a saw to cut firewood. The latest to add is that my partner asked for his saw be put back together 3 weeks ago because they have been unable to fix it. They still have not done it and said today, "what's the point". Simply bad business.

Did not want to give them even one star. 1st experience with Grants Small Engines is when I phoned to see if they could fix my pull start on my line trimmer. They put me on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up & drove there with the whole pull start assembly removed from the machine.
They said they could fix it in a week so a week later I drove back to the store & when I walked in it was sitting on the counter exactly where it was left the previous week. No one had even looked at it.
A nice guy at the front desk took it apart right there & basically did his best to fix it. He charged me $37.00.
It lasted about 10 pulls before breaking again.
Not impressed with this shop.

Called to ask if they were accepting machines for repair and how long the queue was for service. The answer was “sure bring it in we can have a look”. Drove over gave them all my info and the man behind the counter says “okay we will get back to you in about two weeks”. What? No thank you. You couldn’t have told me that on the phone or before you decided to take in my information and waste my time? Bad service

We had a rental from here with no problems and we're pleased with the service. Reasonable rates and easy availability.

Pre-Covid I dropped off a Rototiller that had been sitting a couple of years stale gas and a gummed up Carburetor.
I asked to have the carburetor fixed an oil change and two tubes put in the tires.
I pre-paid $250 cash! Mistake one.
The machine ran for about 45 minutes sort of OK before it started belching black smoke. When I brought it back I was told it needed an $850 carburetor.
I never got any money back, I never got an invoice even after asking twice to charge me for what they had done that didn’t work and give me some money back. Nothing back and no response.
I got mad two weeks ago and ordered an ultrasonic cleaner bought some oil and two tubes for $250 and a couple hours of my time I fixed it myself and it purrs like a kitten.

Should have done it myself the first time and saved $250.

Grant's is the best around. Period. I recently started a landscape company and Luc and his team service all my equipment in a timely manner and have great customer service and pricing. Any bad reviews you see are not because of them, they literally do everything they can. It's the suppliers and the current supply chain crisis and labor shortage that could cause delays for parts. They are trust worthy and geniuses when it comes to anything with a motor!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. Absolute worst service ever! Brought my Briggs snowblower in for warranty work back in March 21. Called every 3-4 weeks asking progress on repairs was told they were still working on it. Fast forward 7 months, called them asking for status they once again said they were working on it. Finally picked it up un-repaired told me they lost their "Brigg's" warranty status. HMMM wonder why. With customer service like this. Do yourself a favor and take your machine for repairs elsewhere. I would give 0 starts but it wouldn't let me.

Great service by knowledgeable staff. One two occasions the staff was able to fix a minor problem with a chainsaw free of charge. Had I not taken the saw to grants I would have been down waiting for parts for weeks. Saved me $$ on parts and time.

Lost our shoulder strap for our Stihl gas trimmer and the boys just gave us a free one off the shelf. Classy!

I rolled into Grants at 11am on a Sunday with my Yamaha xs650 motorcycle as my needle was not seating in my carburetor properly and gasoline was pouring out of my air filter during a ride out on the peninsula.

I talked to the owner why happily leant me a tool to try and tap the carb. But when that didn’t work he mentioned one of the younger guys working at the shop is always wrenching on his dirt bikes.

I was greeted by young josh who was probably 18 years old who told me he had a similar problem with his trail bike. I gave him permission to drop the float bowls and he showed me what was happening to my carb needle. Took it apart like he had done it a million times while it was still in the bike. Tweaked the float bowl mounting tab slightly put it all back together and boom.no more pissing gas out of my filters first try. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes maximum with a little bit of talking in between. When I asked to pay the shop for their time and expertise they only wanted to charge me a case of beer now that’s what I’m talking about.

Thanks Luc. Yesterday you solved a problem with my Shindaiwa line trimmer. Swapped out the faulty head, that was impossible to remove by me at least. On the spot service, great attitude.

I desperately needed a small chainsaw part this morning to continue cutting and the mechanic at Grant’s popped it on my saw and sent me away with no charge. They just gained a faithful customer and I’ll spread the word to anyone who needs a small engine repair. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, highly recommend!

Called up on a Saturday and was greeted and asked to hold - they were clearly busy helping people in store. Eventually spoke to Luke who confirmed all I needed was a tiny washer for a sprocket assembly. Despite it being totally obvious there was no money to be made on a sale, he took the time to walk through the assembly with me over the phone to make sure we were talking about the exact same thing, which he then offered to me free of charge. This is the kind of service that speaks volumes to me.
This time, I only needed a 25 cent part that I was given for free. Next time, maybe I need a $250 part or a new saw or whatever. That's when I'll come back confident that these guys are knowledgeable, patient, honest, and kind. These are the qualities I think we should all support in a neighbourhood business.

I would not recommend Grant's Small Motors. I left a good Honda mower with them for repair. It took much longer for them to look at it than they told me it would when I dropped it off. When they finally looked at it, it was diagnosed with major problems, which came as a complete surprise to me as it went it for a simple repair. They wanted me to just "leave it with them" and abandon it. I said no and picked it up and paid for work that accomplished NOTHING! I had another place look at it and none of the so-called reasons to abandon it existed. I'd give them zero stars, but them minimum to post is one star!

Great service and very helpful. Prices are very reasonable. Its worth the drive from town, I will recommend them to all my friends.

The guys at Grants do an excellent job when it comes to my equipment. From getting me parts in fast to fixing and diagnosing the problem. As a commercial customer Grants understands that down time is wasted time. Service is top notch boys!

Great customer service! I went in to get help in replacing the chain on my electric chainsaw. I had purchased a replacement chain that was supposed to fit the model of saw I had but couldn't get it on. Luke took one look and realized that the new chain required one extra link. He added it while I waited. Grant's make chains so I'll never need to buy one again. Thanks again for helping me with my saw Luke. Nice to have a helpful, local business in Central Saanich.

PS: They also helped me with my generator last year by telling me to use and selling me synthetic gasoline that keeps the generator in tip top shape for next winter's use. Cheers

Went in today with my gas strimmer, had a hole in the plastic fuel line, asked them if they could do anything, and within a few minutes they repaired It on the spot, 1st class service from these guys, I would defiantly recommend them.

Worst service. Part was broken by the mechanic and replaced with a defective part. Supposedly fixed defective part but sent it back with the same problem. 5 months wait 2 repairs and no working mower.

This is an excellent small engine repair shop! With very knowledgeable staff. On many occasions I’ve been in there looking for a part, and if they didn’t have it they were able to get it for me. It’s very rare to still have shops that “actually” are able to diagnose and repair rather then just replacing parts.

Great service finding me an obsolete coil, he actually looked in his parts shelves and found be a tested good one, the other guys told me to buy a new mower, yes my mower is 10 yrs old but was mint

Went in due to a gas line leak in my mower. Grant said it was a wait for a repair. Sold me a replacement and I did it myself. Mower is back up and running. Super great client care!

Further to my lawnmower review. After 5 months without a mower and 3 times luc and his staff messed it up i took it to someone else who fixed it in 5 minutes. Clearly luc and his staff do a lousy job to send me home with a leaking mower (twice) that they should have easily fixed. Also I am a senior lady and these young guys stood around and talked to each other while I had to lift the lawnmower out of my car by myself twice. I had an entirely different experience with sunbelt who were kind courteous efficient and lifted equipment for me. There are no excuses for poor service.

Grant's has looked after our mower/tractor for 3 years. They are friendly, fast and efficient, and provide great service. I love dealing with a small local shop. Would highly recommend them.

I took in my electric Chainsaw for what I thought was a needed sharpening and reattaching of the chain. They took a quick look and said it didn't need sharpening and reattached the chain, showing me how to adjust the tension to keep the chain in place, then with a friendly smile sent me on my way. Friendly neighbourhood service. It was great.

Found the carb needle valve I needed. Gave it to me because $3 was too little to use my card for a used one! My carb is for sn old Honda water pump that I would pay $172 from Honda. NO ONE ELSE has one! Not Amazon, not Ebay, and NO local shop. AWESOMENESS twice!

Walked in off the street looking for a small piece for my chainsaw - service rep found a used one and gave it to me for free even when I offered to pay. Really appreciated this amazing service!

I have been taking my finicky, grumpy and miserable old rototiller to them for years and they seem to be able to convince her to last another year for me. I very much appreciate their skill and knowledge every year and would not hesitate to bring any other equipment to them for repairs.

Great service for our Ariens lawnmower. Needed to check the starter and had spring maintenance done.
Picked up on Saturday, back on Wednesday, just in time for start of lawn cutting season. Polite, efficient staff and followup was much appreciated including pick up and delivery. Thank you.

These guys are the best mechanics in town. They try their best to go above and beyond wherever they can. Everyone working in the place is knowledgeable and reasonable. They have realistic pricing and they try and help you out wherever they can. They also have a large stockpile of used parts allowing them to offer repairs on discontinued motors at great prices. In most cases I believe they also offer a warranty on their work, and to me that shows pride and faith in their service.

Get away from the large chain mech shops that have poor service, high prices, and clueless employees. If you're looking for a great, reliable mechanic option then this is the place. They are locals servicing locals.

Have had several pieces of small equipment in for repair - the staff are always helpful, friendly do great repairs, look for the most economic fix and I leave every time happy with a fully working machine.

Took my Sthil FS74 strimmer into this shop for a service. They were excellent. The strimmer runs better than new. Highly recommended.

By far the best repair shop on the southern island. Honest, friendly knowledgeable. Luke and the guys will get the job done and done right.

Grant's (no relation to me) have always been prompt and very helpful but they seem even better. My small tractor "died" at a time the grass is growing fast and they are "swamped" with urgent work. Luke just returned my tractor in great shape and "happy" again one week later. Excellent, friendly service by experts.

I have been dealing with Grant's for over 28 years as both a landscaper and as a home owner. Their knowledge and service is second to none. They stand behind their products and you don't feel gauged by the bill. Over the years, I have rented all kinds of equipment from Grant's and never had a problem with anything. If you need a piece of equipment repaired, they have always done their best to get it back to you in a very short period of time. Their prices on new equipment are as good or better than anywhere else. We should all support small businesses like Grant's.

The guys there are great. Kind, knowledgeable and capable. I brought a piece of vintage equipmetnt that needed some work and they did it on the spot. Will be using their service again for sure.

I don't recommend this place at all. We had our tractor tuned up etc.for the year. They picked up and delivered which is great but one of the belts shredded by the 3rd time we used it. This was on a Thursday and they said they would replace the belt for us but they couldn't pick it up or get to it until the following week. I called them on Wednesday because I didn't hear from them and had to leave a message. I called again on Friday and they said they couldn't get to it until the following week (again) so I told them to schedule it for Tuesday at 10. I called them again on Tuesday at 11 because I still hadn't heard from them and they said the driver was still out. I got a call from them at 2 saying they wouldn't be able to get it but would come the next day. I waited for them all morning again on Wednesday and still nothing. I called but no answer. No calls to let me know what was happening and I still haven't heard from them 4 days later. I called another place who is going to be fixing Grant's mistake right away and they won't even have to take the tractor away. Extremely poor service from Grant's Motors. 3 weeks without a mower at prime grass cutting time. Thanks Grant's. Now the grass is too long for the catcher to work so we'll be spending our time mowing and raking.

Would rank 6/5 if I could. I have an Ariens zero-turn. I took my mower in to another shop for a motor repair, and was told that the block was cracked and I needed a new motor for $1000. Luc took our mower in, repaired the hairline crack, repaired the governor, battery, wiring and muffler at a fraction of the price. I now have a great mower with a lot of life left. THANK YOU!
