Mediocre food, terrible service with a steep price tag. Just like other comments, middle age Korean lady server with an attitude. Acted like a hawk over our table when we were the only table of guests. Constantly clearing dishes off our table and took unfinished dishes away. She passed the machine for us to pay when we were still eating. Would not recommend this place, there are better choices around the corner.

Rude customer service do not come here. Sushi is good but the lady will get your order wrong and then blame you for getting it wrong. Happened to me twice and wasted a lot my time. It feels like she trying to take advantage of you almost. If you go you should record yourself saying your order so you have proof of what you said

The best tuna tataki in town, the ebi sunomono was perfect, service and atmosphere amazing!

The food is good, but the server is so rude & impolite. And also, the server rushed us out even there is no customer waiting.

Similar to a lot of previous reviews. The food isn’t the worst but not the best. What makes this experience poor is the female worker. She looks like she hates the world and presents this attitude to the customers. It leads to an uncomfortable dining experience. She clears plates extremely fast, like a vulture watching you to be done the last piece. It felt extremely rushed. Finally, when we paid, we were paying with cash and pulling out bills and coins. She has the audacity to say “the bill does not include the tip! ” In a loud voice within seconds of putting the bill down on the table. We said “we know…” as we were still not done gathering the money out. She was just standing there like a hawk. When we were done, she gave a scowl, did not say anything, not even a thank you, and walks away. Her attitude needs a check - good luck to the future if this restaurant.

I didn't take the negative feedback on the service seriously but boy this was one of the worst sit down experiences I've ever had. Moments after we paid we were asked to leave to "make room for other customers" even though there were three other tables open and NO ONE was waiting for a table. I could understand if we'd been there for a couple hours or if it was full and people were in line but we were asked to leave within an hour of arrival. The food was fine but if you want to enjoy a sit down meal, don't come here.

The food was quite good and well presented the cook is very good, only if the server was a bit nice i would’ve tipped definitely but she even rudely asked no tip? And was constantly judging us as it was first time for my friends eating sushi.

The dishes have a good portion and are tasty. The place is small, but very clean and organized. I loved eating at this place. In my opinion it is the best sushi restaurant in the area. I will come back more often.

I’ve tried a lot of sushi places (basically almost everything in takeout/delivery range of my apartment) and I keep coming back to this place.

Pretty much the best sushi place in the Lougheed area. It's a small space but every dish is high quality. Their seared aburi pieces are probably the highlight, a bit pricy but the morsels melt in the mouth with complex flavors that are praiseworthy. I highly recommend the wild salmon aburi and tuna tataki

For food its a 5 star but service forced me to take 2 stars off. Both times we went the grumpy wife would constantly rush us through out the meal making a very uncomfortable dining experience. Always clearing dishes like we're cutting into her time. She would take the sashimi plate (not cheap) away with still food on the plate, forcing us to stop her to quickly scoop the remaining pieces off. The husband always friendly and nice to talk to.

Tricky to find! It’s on the main floor of the condo building beside the executive inn. Parking is in front of the hotel.

Has a very authentic feel of a little restaurant you might stumble across in Japan. Didn’t have a chance to try much but the quality of what we did eat was good.

Will definitely return.

Unfriendly host! She denied entry bcs my mother in law (visiting from abroad) did not have BC Vaccine passport. Like wth… she is not a BC resident!

I was quite excited when I first found this place. The menu and everything looked great. But once we got our food, I realized there was quite a bit missing, especially in flavor. The rice was not seasoned at all, and many of the dishes seemed just underwhelming. One dish in particular, felt like a complete rip off. It was basically a California roll with a small dab of scallop and topped off with mayo for $15. Just quite insane to me.

Pretty solid sushi joint. Not the biggest, only has 4 tables. Sushi was pretty decent. Would not recommend the spicy agedashi tofu. Taste like they just put ketchup on the tofu. Everything else was pretty good. Salmon oshi

If ur a cheap human being who likes tnt sushi then this plave is not for you.

Probably the most authentic japanese restaurant in Vancouver. Family owned and is ran by a Japanese couple.

Don’t expect them to treat you like ur in cactus club cuz the culture is different.

Food is 5/5

Terrible sushi and service. Got food poisoning here. Eat at your own risk. Much better service and sushi across the road at north road sushi.

The most delicious, fresh and smoky sushi I have ever had. It is too cheap for the value in my opinion. My favorite Vancouver spot!

Do not go here!
Generally speaking this restaurant is your average sushi place. Friendly chef to greet you at the front and crammed dining area. However, where this restaurant goes to toilet water is the pricing and the terrible service from the waitress who I presume is the new owner based on other reviews. I literally payed $7 for two tiny salmon nigiri (if you can even call them that). I thought it was a mistake and they charged me for their similarly priced sashimi ($8) as normally a salmon nigiri is 1.75-2.00 for one at other restaurants. I then went to ask the waitress about why I was charged so much, all she told me was that 3.50 was the price of one, walked away and gave me THE dirtiest look as if I offended her. Was kind of a funny interaction which could've totally been avoided, but definitely NOT going back to waste my money.
And listen I'm not normally one to write reviews, but this restaurant deserves it

They are excellent! Been going here for four years. Never a bad meal there. Best Dynamite Rolls around
23 August 2021 9:26
Pricey for the amount of food you get compared to downtown Vancouver, other than that the quality was great.
11 July 2021 18:42
This is a quaint, family ran operating local business by a lovely couple. A very authentic sushi joint with indoor dine in and easy takeout options.
We got the Party Tray A & C which was more than enough sushi for eleven people for lunch. The tray was delivered beautifully, excellent presentation and tasted absolutely delicious. Very fresh, unsalted super yummy sushi and you can tell the chef is very talented with a lot of pride put into his efforts.
The trays were more on the expensive side in comparison to other places, but you absolutely get value for money with this sushi joint and I would definetely choose to eat here again.
Support local! Please order where you can directly via the restaurant to stop third parties from taking all the commission.

Wow, we just tried this place for the first time. Really impressed. The sashimi and nigiri pieces are really high quality. The combo and party tray were well priced and it was ready quite quickly. We will definitely be back!

The food quality was not bad but too small amount. It's overpriced. I will not ever want to try again.

There are many Japanese restaurants around the Lower Mainland, and we are blessed that most of them are actually good. But now and then, you bump into a simply perfect joint. In this case, it was Hanamori Sushi. Besides a very cozy environment of a small restaurant and exceptional service, the food was spot on. It was well presented, everything tasted fresh, and the flavors were excellent. I'm glad we decided to visit this place, and I'm looking forward to our next visit.

This is one of the best sushi places in Vancouver. Their fish is fresh, and their Chef's special actually makes sense. They don't put several flavors stacked together for no reason, like many more popular sushi places like to do. The restaurant may look modest, but the food is far from it.
08 December 2020 17:51
I show up to the Hanamori Sushi in Coquitlam at 7: 15pm on a Saturday night, they are open until 8pm. I was being seated and then the owner told me sorry it’s last call only take out, I cannot sit down and eat! There was 45 minutes left in the business day and I was by myself I would eat in 30 minutes or less but still I was told take out only! I can’t comment on the sushi because they never let me try it! I will never eat here because of this poor experience! I eat sushi 2-3 times a week! Terrible business decision!

Warm and friendly place to go. Great dishes with many choices. A little disappointing is that there were not lunch boxes / dinner boxes that are provided by most of other sushi places.
03 January 2019 22:21
Cozy little place, was here few times. Should say sushi are delicious and service is immaculate. Chef always greets you We always stop by after shopping in Van
03 January 2019 18:32
Phenomenal food and service! One of the best restaurants I've enjoyed! Why can't I give it more stars?
08 December 2018 23:41
Quick and friendly service. The fish is fresh and tasty. The gyozas were the best surprise. The miso soup was not very tasty, as if it was watered down. The udon noodles were more translucent and elastic compared to what I'm used to, but that may just be a local variant. The food is served piping hot. And as the place can accommodate only 10 customers or so, maybe not the best place for a group!

I rarely tread out to the suburbs but I’ve been having difficulty finding new (to me) restaurants around my usual haunts. That’s how I wound up at Hanamori Sushi in Coquitlam.

I decided to try some of their aburi (flame torched) sushi for my first visit including Aburi Wild Salmon, Aburi Salmon Belly, Aburi Toro, Aburi Scallop, Aburi Saba, and Aburi Ebi. To round things out, I also ordered a BC Roll for good measure.

The first thing that I noticed when I picked up my first piece of aburi sushi is that they didn’t do a very good job with the rice as the ebi separated completely from the rice below with barely a touch… this also happened with the saba as well. The ebi itself was a bit sweet but the mackerel was a bit meh. The rest of the aburi, however, was pretty spot on.

I liked that the scallop had a fresh and plump bite and that the toro was nice and buttery. The aburi salmon belly was another strong item with a nice portion size of fatty salmon belly that melts in your mouth. According to their menu behind the sushi bar, the aburi wild salmon is “a must try” and I’d have to agree. In many respects, it reminds me of the sushi bomb at Hyack Sushi and the off-menu “spoon” at Victoria Sushi… buttery, creamy, tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

The BC Roll was a bit meh for me but that’s probably because I prefer my BC Roll to be cut thin with mainly crispy salmon skin. Instead, the BC Roll at Hanamori has thick slices with large pieces of battered salmon (almost like tempura) in the middle along with imitation crab.

I decided to come back for a revisit the following week and try some of the items that were listed on their blackboard. In addition to ordering their Torch Salmon and Torch Salmon Belly, I picked up a Torch Beef, Torch Hamachi, Torch Scallop, and Torch Tuna. I originally wanted their torch toro but they were out so I settled for the torch tuna instead.

Both the torch salmon and torch salmon belly were just as good as I previously remembered… that’s why I ordered two of each. Superbly tender and buttery! Meanwhile, the thinly sliced beef had a nice texture from the torching process and I found that the hamachi (yellowtail) was pleasantly tender without being fishy. The scallop was deliciously plump but I did notice the smallest amount of grit when I bite into it. While the tuna wasn’t bad, I’m sure the toro would have been better.

On my third visit here, I decided that I wanted to try some of their cooked food so I ordered the Chicken Karaage ($7). The small pieces of boneless chicken weren’t like regular Japanese chicken karaage as they seemed to have a panko-like crust resulting in something similar to popcorn chicken. Served with a sweet chili sauce, this was probably closer to a Korean version – not necessarily a bad thing.

I also ordered some nigiri sushi because that’s where this place really shines. I picked up two pieces of the Torch Wild Salmon, two pieces of the Torch Salmon Belly, and two pieces of Torch Scallop.

Okay, I know this is beginning to sound like a broken record, but on my fourth visit here, I again ordered two Torch Salmon Belly and two Torch Wild Salmon. I simply love how tender and buttery their aburi salmon is here and the salmon belly is such a generous portion size that melts in your mouth. I also added Unagi, Ikura, and Torch Scallop, and Torch Toro.

For some reason, I didn’t make a return visit here until November and I had sashimi on my mind. The Assorted A Sashimi ($23) is a bit on the expensive side for 9 pieces of sashimi (3 each of hamachi, tuna, and salmon) but you’re really paying for the hamachi which is also known as yellowtail. The pieces of sashimi are on the thick side and super fresh so you’re paying for the quality here.

Of course, I couldn’t come here without ordering at least one piece of their Torch Salmon Belly ($3.50) nigiri – think their prices might have gone up recently. Love the long tail here and the buttery goodness.

The seating here can be a bit tight if it’s busy and the parking in this mini mall always seems full.

A very good food, but service need some improvement; a lack of common sense in serving and too small place for sitting.

Really tasty special rolls and the classic rolls are done really well. The staff are super nice and will customise your order as best they can. Definitely need to try the torch rolls. It's a small location so seats are a bit limited. Great to take out or eat in.

We discovered this place last summer. Totally reminds us of the show Tokyo Diner - small, quaint with quick, friendly service and top notch sushi. Favourite is the Ramen and Dynamite Roll. Two

Found this place randomly while walking around. Awesome small atmosphere and a fantastic friendly staff. We were not sure what to order so we went with the tasting menu and a large bottle of cold sake. Great decision. Tried a little bit of everything. Great portions and the chicken teriyaki was out of his world! Everything tasted fresh.
