Harambe Ethiopian Restaurant

I went on a Sunday, lunchtime. It was quiet, literally, there was no music in the background, still the conversations between tables were not loud.
There was just one food server for around 7 tables, the girl managed to fulfill all the tables by herself, and the service was not so slow.
We tried the honey wine which was delicious and the proportions of the food were well served.
Overall I liked it.

The food was great! Well spiced, great portions for price and super tasty. We got the chefs special for 2. We had a snack before so we had to take some to-go.

The server we had was also lovely, chatted with us politely about the wine and decor but gave us space while we ate. I also saw her help another table learn how to eat and fed one of the women with permission, I can imagine that was a great experience!

Speaking of honey wine we ordered a glass to share since we had plans after but couldn’t resist more, it was delicious! Made in house by local honey, we had no choice but to buy a bottle for home.

Comfort food! The food is filling, perfectly spiced, and incredibly flavorful! They even have gluten free injera! Our server was kind and quick, she recommended some great dishes and we were very happy, and very full by the end of the evening. Thank you Harambe, as always, you knocked it out of the park!

This was the second time I've been to Harambe and I will definitely be back. Great food, super flavorful and spicy. Service is a tad slow but honestly it is worth the wait every time!

Excellent authentic Ethiopian food, gluten free options as well, vegetarian and meat eater options. The food was super tasty and filling, beautiful art throughout the restaurant and the staff friendly, def give it a try

The ambience is really good. This is my first time trying out Ethiopian food so don’t have much to compare but it was really good. Don’t think it’s for everyone but definitely worth trying!

Our arrival felt like visiting old friends againwith a warm and hospitable reception; which is how I would describe Ethiopian culture.
There are a few restaurants that serve Ethiopian food, and as I understand it, many are good. But since I do not have the leverage of comparison, what can I say that praises Harambe?
Their waiting staff was very good, because they were reseptive to our needs, and preseptive to our comforts.
The quality of food was also top marks. As is with Ethiopian dishes, there is a lot of prep work and much of that centers on spices and marinaids. There really is no short-cuts, and this was a highlight.
Bringing friends here who have never eaten this cuisine, was a joy to see their enlightened faces and hear their savouring “oooohs” It made us feel good, knowing they enjoyed this treat.
We ordered the sample platter which had a nice taste of each of the daily foods and the staple of Injera (flat bread/pancake) used to pickup, wrap lentils and stews to soaking up sauces and cleaning the pallet.
We are confident that we will return and be pleased because these kind of friends never let you down!

The worst of the Ethiopian restaurants in Vancouver. Place was pretty empty but the server still forgot about us, forgot our order and when we finally said something 1 whole hour later they brought us the wrong food, with spicy dishes that I can’t eat, and a serving of the most burnt beef of history. We had to get up and ask for everything like water etc, I’m fine with self service as long as it’s mentioned.
In the end we complained and the server discounted us THE COKE. The only thing that wasn’t at fault in this whole garbage of an experience. Literally never again, don’t waste your time. Go to Axum or Gojo Cafe on the drive.

My first time having Ethiopian food. The restaurant had good ambiance and bonus points for good lighting at the table! Service was friendly, but not attentive - took multiple asks to get water and it was slow. Food was good, I just don’t think it’s my palette. Dumaskli Soup was my favourite - a sweet soup with a little kick to it. Chef’s Choice Combination Platter for Two People was a great way to sample different dishes, I liked this. The Ye Assa Tibs (fish) reminded me of Chinese fish dishes. The Injera is like a less mild sourdough made into a steamed tortilla with bread consistency - not my favourite but I believe it’s personal taste as my friends liked it. Our meal came to $93 after tips for 3 people.

Tasty comfort food in a relaxed setting. The service is slow because it’s a one-person production. Kind, calm and friendly service. Sit down, relax and go with the flow kind of place.

Really enjoyed this place! Loved the dishes we got, some kind of corn soup, some fish dish.and the 2 person combo platter Sorry I don't remember the names haha. But the restaurant had a nice atmosphere though the service wasn't great. But overall I would come here again to try some of the other dishes!

Best Ethiopian in greater van. Definitely go there for the extremely delicious food, not for the slow service. Try the iconic platter

One of my favourite places to eat in Vancouver. Wish I had known about it when I lived a few blocks away.cause now it is not at all convenient and I can't get there often.

The food was good, but the service was extremely lousy, it took 2.5 hours just to get dinner done. Also for some reason the 3 person sharing platter has 3 of each veggie, but just 2 chicken drumsticks? I asked the waitress, she said yeah you should have gotten 3, and then never returned.

For food quality, taste and service, of this resturant is five star. The entire staff is very friendly. Come check it out!

Food is good, at the door it says that they are open at 12pm on Thursdays / online it's 4!

This is my favourite Ethiopian restaurant in the city, and one of my favourite rooms in East Van, period. Do yourself a favour and go have dinner here with a bunch of friends!

Also, they make amazing tej!

We've gone there many times over the years, and the food and service are always stellar. One of our favorite places on the Drive.

The food and service were good. We got the vegetarian platter and chefs platter and both were good.

Terrible service.honestly. Had to wait for 20 minutes to even get the menu. Waiters aren't very helpful and food isn't even that good. Definitely the last time I'm coming here. Not a good place to come with family.

Dont you dare ask for a fork, or the manager may scream at you that you are insulting his culture and make you leave. Not even kidding. And I asked very politely. There was also sharp chunks of bone in the meat (i did eat a bit before asking)
