HASHIGO - SAKE DINING

This has been my go to place for sushi but I’m a bit sad to see the restaurant changed menu to skewers will you consider bring sushi menu back?

The ambiance of the restaurant is delightful, offering a cozy setting with around 20 seats. On a not-so-crowded Saturday night, we were promptly seated at approximately 7: 30 PM. While the skewers impressed with their taste, the portion size left us unsatisfied. The appetizers from a separate menu were priced at $15+, yet the portions were quite small, equivalent to just 2-3 bites for an average person.

Surprisingly, the preparation time for 10 skewers exceeded 40 minutes, even though the restaurant was not at full capacity. Each skewer, comprising about four small meat pieces, could be consumed in a minute, leaving us feeling very hungry due to the slow pace of food service.

On a positive note, our group enjoyed the delightful sake, which complemented the dishes well.

They have great huge selection of sake! If you are sake lover you should definitely come and try! All the foods are amazing and not heavy with seasoning so doesnt ruin the taste for sake. Servers were very delighful as well! Must place to visit:)

Part of the Zakushi group. Went there expecting their loud greeting and enthusiasm as in the other branches but vibe was very different. More suitable for date night or solo dining. Ambience was low key, chill and clean. Staffs were accommodating but not consistent as some were more just “doing their job” than wanting to serve you and others were very friendly. Fish selection was subpar as I expected better quality for the price accounting for the inflation these days. Variety of sake selection looks conscientiously picked and staff has good knowledge to recommend-price range not so overpriced compared to other places with sake choices. Menu selection can be expanded to accommodate non sashimi/fish favouring crowd (unless their motto is to push raw seafood only). Noticed their cheese in some of the menu were of some quality but can be complimented better with different stronger tasting ingredients instead because it just felt like eating cheese and the other parts went unnoticed to the palate. Duck could have been more tender- drier than expected. Overall, would come here for a change in atmosphere from the usual Japanese chains but it would take more to be a frequent patron.

Highly recommend this place!
Went here for the birthday dinner, ordered +5 dishes and variety of sake and nothing let me down but only gave fantastic experience!
Food was incredible, every sake was amazing, and all servers were genuinely super kind and simply, WOW. They explained every sake (where it came from, taste, ingredients, etc) and kept checking is everything alright.
Only wish I can share how happy and grateful my experience was however my words cannot contain it!
If you never or haven't tried good Japanese or sake bar, please try here. You will not regret!

Great sake dinning place in central location, a gem in most vibrant areas of Vancouver. Delicious food with variety of sake choices remind me the experience back in Tokyo.

Love the food and service here, exceed my expectations. We ordered most of the stuff from the happy hour menu and the weekly special menu. Everything was tasty. We walked in around 530 without any reservation. The place was not busy at that time but an hour later was almost full. Whole book of sake selections, we are not sake drinkers, but we ordered the 4 once sake flight for $35 as the waitress Miki explained those are expensive sake and even hard to find in Japan. There were only 2 servers on the floor, but they were very efficient. The drinks might take a bit longer, but we didn't need to wait for long. Miki is amazing

The food was simply delicious - I especially loved the chicken ramen. But what made this experience truly stand out was the incredible service. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. The entire staff seemed genuinely happy to be there and eager to make our meal memorable.

I can't recommend this restaurant enough - the food and service were both exceptional. If you're looking for a great Japanese dining experience, this is the place to go!

Got the mini ramen. The bowls are super cute and the ramen itself was great for this place!
