Beautiful spot. Staff are wonderful. Lovely bar too. The only complaint is the mattresses - seriously need to be upgraded. No one in our party had a good sleep. Old and stiff. Would highly recommend visiting though.

Great food and service here on the Island. Unique atmosphere and busy, even in the off season.
17 August 2023 22:29
This is an honest review for an older, remote Inn. One can only expect to receive a limited experience for a modest price and must appreciate that a seasonal business is a challenge on top of that! But the people are kind, rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. I was satisfied with value for money.
17 July 2023 23:02
Beautiful and welcoming. Loved everything about it and hoping to visit again in the future.
04 June 2023 15:44
We cycled here and enjoyed outdoor lunch. The oyster burger was the best I have ever had. 3 breaded cooked oysters on a brioche bun. They were a bit soft in the middle. Tasty and cooked perfectly. Good service.
01 June 2023 4:54
Made a ferry trip especially to eat at the pub. Will never make that mistake again. Ordered a burger, meat was raw inside, fries were cold, gravy was lumpy and lukewarm, paid for cheese I never received (didn’t notice until I checked bill after we left). Probably one of the worst meals I’ve had.

Apparently this place is haunted, it's got a cool vibe to it and it's location is wonderful
24 April 2023 5:15
An older hotel that is worth visiting. If there's a band in the pub it can be noisy in the rooms. Great location, friendly staff. Very friendly staff actually!
08 December 2022 16:12
We stopped into Heron's Restaurant for dinner with a group of 12 including a few rowdy kids. Alli and Lois were warm and friendly and made sure we had a great night. We felt very looked after. The food was great (the truffle fries were incredible!) and we loved sneaking out to the gift shop to browse and buy some presents. If I'm ever back in the area I will definitely head back to the Heriot Bay Inn!

Great food, great staff. Love the U of Q and how much the HBI contributes to Quadra community life.

Love HBI. I have bring going for 45 yrs. I know lots of people who have and work there… love it! My old Hood!

So, like, DuDe; it's like a pub, right, and it is by the, umm, ferry, like the NeXt ferry, dude, and like the food it is sumptuous, and like you know what else?

It is so, I dunno, beautiful there. See, I like, took these CLiX.like LOOK!

I wish I could remember, like the NaME, you know, of the other island we journeyed to that day. DuDe.where'd you go?

So no, this is NoT the pub time forgot; that's in Ireland, if memory serves.

Nor does anyone speak like the above there. I am just silly.

If you like good pub food of high quality, this is THE spot! Pricey but excellent value.

If you like good service, this is your spot.

If you like good beer, this is you spot.

If you like live entertainment, this is your spot.

If you are looking to attend an affordable educational institution, THiS is YoUR sPoT!

If you are looking for an off-season corporate retreat, this is your spot! $1200/day gets you exclusive use of several rooms, etc.

But please, I LoVE the laid back, quiet-Ness. ️'n'

Rooms are small but was not an issue for myself as I was only in the room to sleep at night. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable staff was very friendly. Great place to stay on a very beautiful island
14 September 2022 15:50
Stop here for lunch. Was raining out but they have lots of covered outdoor areas. Staff is very friendly and food was phenomenal. Can't wait to come back to this very cool Cove and enjoy another lunch maybe this time out in the sunshine.
14 September 2022 2:54
Such a fun, beautiful night at the HBI! Stunning location with gorgeous scenery. Great staff who are super helpful and delicious food!
07 September 2022 18:33
Such an amazing spot to have a beer on a sunny day. Didn't try any food but the menu looked great.
12 August 2022 21:43
Went to the pub and it was filled with nostalgia! Absolutely loved the atmosphere by the sea and the charm of the place. I will definitely be back! The room I am in is small and very much in the style of 100 years ago. Taps do not shut off properly and there is no t.v if that bothers you. Clean and well kept.
10 August 2022 2:44
Lindsay, our server in the restaurant, was amazing. The hotel was clean and quaint. We had a great weekend. We will be back!
07 August 2022 14:03
The small rooms, advertised as cozy, are tiny. If you are just looking for a place to lay your head then this is it. There is so much to do in the area, you don't want to spend time in a bedroom anyway.
The 125 yr old historical building is interesting. The location is fabulous, right near the BC Ferry terminal and a campsite. Right on the ocean, has its own Marina. The attached pub was great fun and the food was very good basic food. A local favorite place, enjoyed by both local working fishermen and tourists. Nice gift shop. Staff were very friendly but very busy. We actually didn't stay the two reserved nights because the rooms were so small, we had a small dog with us. The second story rooms are very basic. The staff was kind enough to find us other nearby accommodation.
This is a happening place.
01 August 2022 3:30
We stayed at the Inn twice this year and enjoyed it both times. On the second visit, apparently our room was haunted but the ghost was very accommodating and didn't cause a fuss.:)

Huge Kudos to Lois for figuring out that we managed to leave behind our spare key fob for our car which she promptly mailed to us. She saved us a bunch of hassles trying to replace it. Thank you Lois!
02 July 2022 15:22
Can’t recommend this place for camping. Was consistently noisy past 1am every night of our stay. The campsite is full of drunk partiers. If this is your vibe go for it. Otherwise may be best to avoid. Bar did have good food. Pretty pricey, and service was slow, but might be us just getting used to island time.
22 October 2021 1:00
I love this place dearly, but it is a bit tired, and food (takeout) unimaginative and rather lukewarm when we came at appointed time to pick it up. Given this, I will say I will always make a trip to this spot every summer, as their sunsets are amazing, the trees mature and the harbour activity always fun to watch. I do hope you can pull through the Covid downturn as you are a treasure.

Stayed at a cabin a few weeks ago. While it has rustic charm the floors are filthy. Judging from the the grout i doubt these floors have been scrubbed let alone moped in decades. My socks even said so.

The beds are HORRIBLE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. They need to be REPLACED ASAP. We are paying a premium for a restful sleep. Not a worn out rock hard 20 year old mattress. There were spiderwebs all over the ceilings, the bathroom was the worst. After having a shower you don’t want to even step on the floor.

There was no coffee whitener, used coffee filter still the coffee maker, and a disgusting dirty scrub sponge left. Why leave an almost empty bottle of dish detergent fill it up.

It’s all the little things that’s done so horribly wrong. I won’t be coming back and will stay at another resort next time.

I doubt any issues will be addressed. If anything the mattresses need to be replaced. If you stay here bring your own air bed or sleep in your vehicle. Your back and sanity will thank you.

It’s a harsh review but the same issues never get fixed why? Buy some new flat screen TVs, box springs and mattresses, and actually scrub and mop the floors, and DUST. This is 100% and cleaning and owner issue.

Costco is in courtenay get some mattresses and box springs for the cabins.
05 October 2021 21:20
Slow service and pricey even for the island. Chowder was delicious but everything else was only ok.
05 October 2021 2:24
Fabulous location, good food, great service, stopped in after a super day on Cortes Island & went back a few days later lol
01 October 2021 9:21
Terrible service. Do not order the fish tacos. They are not tacos. They are tiny bits of battered fish with sweet coleslaw and tomatoes and onions thrown on top (which for the record is not "salsa" as we were told). So when the server implies that serving food that is not as advertised is about unreasonable "expectations", a disappointing food experience becomes poor service. Not sure that happened to this place. We've come here for years and loved it. But it's very much gone downhill.
19 September 2021 10:41
Decent location for exploring the island, could use a bit of updating but the staff and shareholders are awesome.
14 September 2021 3:04
Always a good time at Harriot, had our boat tied up for the night amazing people awesome community
24 August 2021 0:41
This place is beautiful.didnt get to eat in the lounge, but the yellow rose was so delicious.and funny people.
19 August 2021 7:51
Times of Covid have created staffing issues and food service is limited to dinner with reduced seating? Rooms are spartan yet clean. Staff was wonderful.
02 August 2021 4:42
It's over a hundred years old plumbing sucks. Food and people there are great. Views are amazing. It has a great vibe. When the music starts wow
01 August 2021 0:18
Well let's start off and say that the chicken and brie burger was good and so were the fries. A good portion too. The location is lovely too as it's by the marina, a campsite, the ferry and is in a lovely setting. This place is always going to be busy.

However, this place is just as poorly managed as it was this time last year. It's almost comical. First, there was a lineup of customers outside waiting to go in. Like them we soon realised why. There was no host managing the tables and even though three waitresses asked whether we were being helped, only the third eventually did. While we waited 10 minutes outside we could admire all the signs saying they were short staffed, the garden was too hot to work in (although the heatwave was over at this point) and all the restrictions of covid (which likewise are also over at this point too).

Eventually we were asked whether we had a reservation. We said no, and wasn't worried because there were still three vacant tables outside on the patio and even more inside (even though it was still set up for covid). However, we were told by the owner/manager that there was no room to eat but we could get takeout instead and eat on the garden. It would take around 25 minutes.

We chose to do that as it was a nice evening and figured the food should be the same. We sat outside and waited and after 30 minutes we noticed the people behind us in the lineup got their food. So after 5 minutes and no call I went inside and asked about our food. It was there and she grabbed it with no apology or explanation as to why it was not delivered to us or anything. By the temperature I am guessing it was ready 10 minutes ago.

I then noticed there was a hostess station inside, but she was surrounded by around 4 wait staff. One was texting while the other three were doing nothing but hanging around the non functional hostess station.

We are our meal which apart from not being that hot, was good. During this time, none of the patio tables were taken by other people. In fact another one was vacant. So I can only assume that unless you make a reservation you can't eat there, even if there is space.

I am also wondering why they also have a pub too. The restaurant we were in was no fancier than most pubs either in decor or food. It would be simpler to have the one, with one hostess managing the tables and lineups. Then allocate one person to do takeout and the other wait staff managing their own areas. There's a reason most restaurants do it this way.

I don't intend to be mean here. I just think with a bit better management this would be better experience for staff and customers.
26 July 2021 1:51
Have been there about 5 times last time I was there my burger was gross and the hostess was kind of rude. All the other times it was really good.
08 July 2021 8:44
Heriot Bay Inn is a perfect place to stay on Quadra Island. The location is ideal with superb views of the waterfront and very close to the Cortes Island ferry.

The outdoor deck of it's pub offers great menu choices, drinks and beautiful views of the surrounding waterways and mountains.

Hiking trails are close by, the hike to Surge Narrows is relatively easy with stunning views as a reward.

Even though the rooms are small, they are perfectly adequate as the charm of this historic inn is so worth it. You can also enjoy your own happy hour on the private upper deck overlooking the water.
08 July 2021 0:10
Campground wasn't very private, lots of traffic from the dock and restaurant/hotel. We had an ocean front spot which was nice but spots are close together and no privacy between. Had lots of people just walking through our campsite.
26 December 2019 19:32
We attended the Halloween party last weekend. It was a lot of fun. The next day however we made the mistake of going there for breakfast. There weren’t many people in the dining room and my husband was talking to a friend at the table beside us. The waitress was very rude and told him to keep it down. They weren’t even being loud. Then we sat and waited over one hour and 40 minutes for our breakfast. Finally we told them to forget it and left. Eggs and ham takes almost two hours? Absolutely ridiculous. We will never go back. Ever. Not impressed
30 October 2019 10:17
I'm sorry to write this but I am quite disappointed in the value for the money eating at the pub. I had four chicken strips and a dry gluten free bun and my total was $22.50. Although the chicken strips were tasty, they had a LOT of breading and very little chicken. In fact one of my chicken strips was entirely breading. To pay $22.50 these and a dry gluten free bun seems crazy! I am in the restaurant business and I can say the price and product do not match up at all.
17 October 2019 14:36
We only had food at the HBI, we did this on four evenings and can only say that we were really delighted. The building is really quirky and interesting, we believe that most of the people in there were locals and they were great, the team working there were fantastic and really helpful too. Can wait to come back again, hopefully next year.
10 October 2019 1:29
I didn’t stay in the hotel but used the facilities and the pub and restaurant. The marina is very nice and clean. Very friendly people everywhere. The pub had great food, good beer and the old building gives it a nice atmosphere. I can’t wait to come back again.
18 September 2019 11:44
The Inn has a history that is both interesting and quirky. Being over 100 years old lends to the uneven floors and quaintness. The rooms in the hotel are small but adequate and clean. No phone or TV in the rooms but radio is available. There is WiFi. Washrooms are nice. Water pressure and temperature of water is a bit difficult to regulate at times but kind of adds to the quirkiness. No air conditioning but its not needed since the in is located right on the water and the breeze helps keep the rooms cool. A fan in the room also helps move air around. Coffee is available at the upstairs buffet table in the morning. No elevator available and rooms are upstairs. There is a small gift shop which also has a hint of quirkiness. You can buy unique drawer knobs to local post cards to Heriot Inn shirts. Grounds are well maintained and flowers are plentiful. A large outdoor chess board entices the gamers. A wrap around veranda encourages one to sit and enjoy afternoon tea, a glass of wine or a light meal. There is a patio for out door dining. Menu is available in both the dining room and the pub. Food is local and very good. There is a marina and showers and laundry available. Also there are camp sites and cabins available for rent. They have WiFi but cell service is not available. Cell service is limited on the island. The overall stay was pleasant. If you stay, try and get rooms not above the pub. If you want 5 star accommodations, you won't enjoy this place but if you enjoy quirkiness and an interesting history, this is for you. A pleasant get away.
16 September 2019 20:59
Food was delicious well presented. Service was great didn’t wait long at all for our meal and over all a very cool place to stop at so much history behind this place.
14 September 2019 8:41
I have only gone to the pub so far, several times, not stay there. We were there before the tourist season started, and now once it has both times there's a genuineness to the place. It's mostly locals that frequent the pub, but they are very welcoming of non-locals every time. It just felt real. The food is little pricey for pub food, bit it's generally quite good, and the atmosphere is just lovely. Yeah, it has quirky local feel to it (cover bands or 60s music bingo, anyone?). But it feels friendly and homey. Certainly not for everyone, but when you're just trying to get away from too-formal stuff, it feels good there.
11 September 2019 11:50
We ate at the dining room on the patio after a kayak day trip. We had read the reviews so we were unsure about what to expect. The service was amazing, the food was great! We were staying at a lodge where the restaurant was mediocre at best so we were very pleased with our decision! We shared some clams and I had the salmon, which was done medium well, the veggies were al dente but I'll take that over too done. The desert was a chocolate raspberry torte.
08 September 2019 1:12
Inconsistent service/food. Came here two days running. First day 16 July 2019 was amazing food, a bit slow service, especially when it came time to pay, very very poor service. Seafood pasta was great, including spot prawn. The vegetarian ratatuille was amazing. Was recommended the tofu starter by someone who might be the owner, tried it the following day, it was like desert it was so so sweet, they had run out of dressing so substituted balsamic sickly sweet. The other diners had to wait a long time to get served (we finished a bottle of wine while waiting), being offered soup as a consolation. The seafood pasta the following day was not of the same standard. Regular prawns instead of spot. A bit of a disappointment.
05 September 2019 9:09
The food is absolutely amazing, we have been here now maybe 5 times and 4 of them were excellent and one of them was extremely disappointing considering we took the ferry exclusively for the restaurant and got subpar service. We think its because we had our baby, the server was less than impressed. Usually though, it's a great experience
04 September 2019 6:00
Showed up around 5 pm on a Sunday without a reservation and was able to be seated.

The building is cute but could use some renovations. It held that old musty smell. The bathrooms smelled like urine and needed major Reno’s too.

The service was quick and the wait staff was friendly.

The food came quick and was good portioned and tasty. I feel it was overpriced. Paying 2 bucks for sour cream on a quesadilla was 2 bucks too much.
01 September 2019 11:03
Tented here for two nights. They were great in accommodating us on short notice late at night. Sites are set up for RVs, so wasn't ideal for tents (2 small 2 person tents were tight with a vehicle). Due to everyone hooking up on sewage, we got hit with some smells throughout our stay. Had breakfast at the restaurant and it was great. Bar is open very late in the summer so not the quietest place if you're in a tent.
27 August 2019 3:05
Great food, large patio, eclectic interior - a perfect place to come for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It has a view of the water, lots of parking a great food.
23 August 2019 19:18
The only reason I'm giving it a rating at all is because of the friendly staff. Both at the desk and the pub. Great service.
I usually never talk bad about an experience because people love to complain in their reviews but for 145 a night this was an exception. The bed is concrete. The room is a closet and don't pay extra for the room that states it's away from the pub noise. You can hear everything. So you're basically paying for what the cheaper room offers.
18 August 2019 1:18
We camped beside the Inn and stopped in for lunch. Both the service and food was great. The campsite is quiet and the view amazing.
30 July 2019 0:21
This 100 year old treasure sits on an inlet with an adorable Marina. Quadra Island should not be missed, but I hope you do. It is such a fragile beautiful place, that if you find it you might never leave it.
13 July 2019 17:07
We went to the pub for supper, and they were playing music bingo. The on tap beer selection was basic, but the taste was amazing. We started with calamari and it was hot and tasty. I had the cod and chips. While it wasn't the best fish n' chips I've had, it was quite good. My partner had the burger which was also delicious. The servers are friendly and quick. The cost is quite reasonable considering the size of the starter and meals.
28 June 2019 7:06
Stopped at the pub for lunch. We were a bit leary after reading a review saying it was for serial killers but thought we’d try it anyway. Had a delicious salmon burger and hamburger, cold local craft beers on tap, great friendly service. Take that mr serial killer!
22 June 2019 15:00
A long time love. This magical place will steel your heart it stole mine. This over 100 year old hotel with newer cabins has a pub and restaurant, hosts events big and small. A great place with great food.
03 June 2019 18:58
We had an absolutely fantastic weekend at the Heriot Bay Inn. Two close friends booked out the entire hotel for the weekend for their wedding. It was the perfect location, the staff were incredibly accomodating all weekend - they even set us up with high-speed internet and drink service on the last evening so we could have a massive group screening of GoT. For our friends that sailed to the venue it worked great because they were able to tie up at the dock right at the Inn. Perfect venue, fantastic staff, can't wait to go back.
