Horang Korean inspired restaurant & bar

It was busy but my waitress was friendly. Waited longer than expected for the food but the atmosphere was beautiful.

Pretty expensive but food is not great. Chicken tasted like it was microwaved, there are lots of better Korean places in Nanaimo.

I was excited to try because of Nori's sister restaurant and Nori is owned by Korean. If you like Korean fried chicken, you'll probably like this place because it looks modern and more like lounge type of place. But if you are a true Korean food lover, I am skeptical you will.

With no exception, Korean food also comes with at least 3 kinds of side dishes especially kimchi - it's just a thing. But you have to pay for it here. I got bibimbap which was okay but certainly not authentic compared to Momiji or other Korean restaurants on the island.

When I heard the owner of Nori opened Horang I just had to go and try it out. I have now been back several times and order my favorite dish frequently for delivery. The food is the kind of food that makes you stop what you’re doing to just savour the amazing flavours. Be prepared to have your mind blown. I recommend the Rose Tteokbokki or the Bulgogi set, but I’ve tasted a lot of their menu and have enjoyed it all. I do recommend getting a reservation as it can be very busy due to its popularity. Probably the classiest atmosphere of any restaurant in town.

Phenomenal Food and Service, Food came surprisingly fast and was delicious, will be returning here.

Came here cause I found out about it through its sister location (nori) had lunch here got the chicken x croffle, steak tartare roll and sweet honey fries, besides the fries being cold everything else was good, even got the Korean fried chicken lunch combo (not pictured) will be coming back

If you go to one restaurant in Nanaimo then go here.try the makgeolli with honey comb. Try everything on the menu. Lovely atmosphere, food, drink and service.

Horang in Nanaimo is a culinary gem that transcends the typical Korean dining experience. The fusion with western flavors elevates the taste to new heights. What an amazing place. Tried 5 dishes and wish I had room for more. Everything came very fast and was delicious. The waitress was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect. Will definitely be going back to try more items.

Had 6 o clock reservations for mine and my girlfriends anniversary. We arrived at 555 and had to wait until 6: 10 because our table was being "cleaned". We were then set down by a very rude hostess who also ended up taking our drink and starter order. As we were seated, the restaurant started emptying, but we still waited 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive and in the meantime, our actual server, who was quite pleasant in comparison to the individual who sat us, took our main course order. A couple sitting across from us sat down after us, and received both their drinks and their starters before we even got our drinks. When our drinks finally arrived, I had a very small glass of beer, and one or their signature cocktails tasted very similar to a terrible mixture of vodka and Kahlua. When our food finally arrived, it was greasy and barely edible. Did not find any truly authentic flavors, and was quite disappointing. The service was poor. There were no check-ins to see if we needed anything else, more drinks, etc. There are other more traditional Korean restaurants in Nanaimo with way better service.

Best chicken & Kimchi I have ever eaten I highly recommend! The atmosphere would be sm better if they played classical music or something in the background But anyway, 100% recommend this place

Favorite restaurant in Nanaimo! Our group tried many different items on the menu. Very generous portions and wonderful service! Loved the intimate setting and lighting. Crispy soondae sausage, Nashville fried chicken and Galbi Jjim were highlights.

This was a unique cuisine choice that North Nanaimo was sorely missing. The flavour profiles are bold and offer what I believed to be a very authentic Korean experience. They have some great cocktails, and the atmosphere has a nice modern flair to it. The staff were very friendly, and generally the overall energy felt great in the restaurant.

This place is at the wrong end of the city for me but I will definitely make the trek again. The food was excellent. I had the Wang Dankatsu which was a pork schnitzel. Huge portions too, I was wishing that I had 3 stomachs just so I could try more food. Next time I might do the Biria Tacos or Ribs. 10 out of 10, would highly recommend, probably one of the best restaurants in Nanaimo.

If you are near Woodgrove and shopping, stop in! A real gem on the north end Nanaimo. Very good food, atmosphere and service is top notch. The manager was greeting and visiting with people. Nice touch. They have a bit of Korean market where you can buy some goodies. I will return to try some authentic food. I am just a real nut for Crispy Fried Chicken though.

I brought my mother here for a birthday lunch and was disappointed. They changed their menu recently and IMO it was a mistake. Their old menu was superior with more authentic takes on Korean dishes. They also removed many of the best dishes on their menu. 9/10's of their menu is rather inauthentic and most of the food is too sweet/over-sauced. We were particularly disappointed at the pot (bowl?) they used to serve their stews, as it did not retain heat and rendered the stew cold too quickly (15-20 mins).

Service was a bit slow, more like a fast-casual restaurant.

Hopefully they go back to their old menu or move away from what they are doing now, and invest properly in service equipment that befits a Korean restaurant (ie get rid of the candle warmers masquerading as a heat source under dishes, quite literally useless aside from the aesthetic).

Short ribs had no flavor. Chicken was okay. Kitchen staff had no hair nets on and one bearded worker had no beard net on. It was our 1st time here and we won't be back.

Love it here! Always pleased with the food. One experience we had the service was just ok, but last time our server was great.
