I usually don't write reviews, but never have I been so impressed with a company. This was our first time building a custom home and I was a little nervous going into it, to say the least! But Horizon was amazing! They took us through every step and made sure that we were happy with everything. I would highly recommend working with Dave. He had great communication and went above and beyond, not only that, he is just a genuinely friendly and kind person. Knowing that he had everything under control made this process much less stressful. We're so excited to move into our dream home! It's hard to believe that it's already time to move in! If you are looking for a place to build your dream home, Horizon is the best choice. My husband and I are both so happy to have found them!

Poorly managed commitment to time sensitive matters. Over priced and they have every excuse why they can’t finish something on time.

We have worked closely with Horizon Pacific Contracting to renovate our 110-year-old Oak Bay heritage home. We wanted to make the home more livable while retaining its classic features and intricate mill work. In addition to updating the kitchen and basement, we added space to the sitting room, laundry room, and powder room and with Horizon's help, we included major upgrades to both electrical and plumbing and the driveway, decks, and landscape around the property.

Horizon was recommended to us by friends but we still interviewed a number of contractors. It was clear from the first meeting with project manager, Tim Agar, as to why he is highly thought of. He gave us some valuable advice and contacts even before we engaged his services. Once we engaged Horizon, we found that each time Tim stepped foot onto our property he brought immense value by providing many well-thought-out suggestions and cost-saving tips. The other members of the Horizon team and the trades engaged to service the renovation, were always polite and professional and worked efficiently as a team.

Tim's integrity and professionalism came to the fore when there was a mishap with the positioning of the kitchen island. Without issue this was quickly resolved by Horizon without cost to us. We know that mistakes can happen and when they do, you want to be assured your contractor will make things right. We know that not all contractors step up like Horizon. We wholeheartedly recommend Horizon.

Horizon renovated the exterior of our 1983 split-level Langford house and garage this past summer. The original cedar siding boards were rotting and needed replacement along with the footings and a wall on the garage. We decided on Hardiplank. I had Horizon estimate the job along with two other contractors. After a recommendation from a friend and checking their reviews, I decided on Horizon.

I was impressed by how professional and efficient the crew was. Each one of the red seal carpenters were clearly experts at their job who take pride in their work. Everyone at the office was pleasant to deal with. From start to finish, it was a first class experience. I will hire Horizon again in a heartbeat.

I have done several successful projects with Horizon Pacific Contracting, one full Uplands house, featured on the Horizon web site, one full overhaul of an Uplands home, also on the website, a full reno of my son's Broadmead home and, just completed, a full reno of the condo that I now live in. With this record it is clear that I would not use anyone but Horizon Contracting. When someone calls me for a recommendation I start by saying 'I'll make it easy for you. Just sign the contract. '
Tim Agar knows the business, every aspect, the technologies, the materials, the people, the suppliers, the designers, the sub-contractors. The Horizon Contracting office staff and trades people that I have seen at work are not only competent, they are confident, accommodating, and fun to be with.
On each of the projects I had a detailed vision in mind of what I wanted. Horizon not only delivered, but refined and defined the vision at every step of the way.
At the first meeting with Tim and the designer that he recommended, I said I wanted to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse, that I wanted a little jewel. I am now living in a little jewel. Tim successfully fought the building permits battles and the condo association clearances to achieve what I wanted in every detail.

Horizon Pacific Contracting built us a wonderful custom home a couple of years ago. Tim and his staff were very professional throughout the process which was echoed by our neighbours. We were impressed that Horizon was able to build us our dream home in a timely fashion especially considering that we were building during one the busiest times for trades. We found, Tim, to be extremely knowledgeable and he was great with explaining the details involved. We have also been happy with the company's post-construction service after we have been living in the home as Horizon has been prompt in assisting us with any issues. We recommend considering Horizon for your renovation or custom build.

My husband and I chose Horizon Pacific Contracting to build a 6000 sq ft custom home in North Saanich in 2019 after they successfully completed another project for us in Brentwood Bay. We've done lots of renovations in the past, and had many up and down experiences with contractors, so when Tim Agar became available, we were confident we were hiring the best. We were not disappointed. Our home is everything we hoped it would be and more.

Horizon has a reputation for working with good people, and this was proven out in the quality of the trades and professionals they brought on board. Architect Pamela Ubeda and interior designers Kimberly Williams and Elaine Martel were key people in bringing our vision to life, but Tim was the one to keep us moving forward through the various challenges we encountered, including municipal variances, structural issues, and the sale of our old home, to name but a few.

In fact, this is one of Tim's greatest qualities. He never got flustered in the face of conflict. He is diplomatic, practical, and an excellent moderator. Building IS stressful, don't let anyone tell you different. You need a good plan, and an organized person to help you over the humps.

Tim is also a great collaborator. He offered many excellent ideas that helped us save money and made our home more energy efficient. For example, sine we are both former competitive swimmers, we wanted an indoor pool. Tim came up with the idea for a dehumidification system that recovers 98 per cent of heat loss from the air and pumps it back to heat the pool. Not only does this save us money, but it prevents moisture and that awful chlorine smell from leaking into our house.

Horizon's crews, including Vince our site supervisor, came through for us. Everyone that touched our project was top notch. That's why we highly recommend Horizon to anyone looking to build a custom home.

We are a large condo building in Victoria and have contracted to have all the balconies resurfaced. So far two appointments made with us have not been kept. Both appointments were cancelled on the morning the work was to be done, and notice that they were not coming was not given until after the appointment time agreed to. The latest cancellation came with the comment "maybe tomorrow". I moved all flower containers, patio furniture, barbecue etc into my living room where they have now been for some time at considerable inconvenience. I rise early to keep the early appointment made with me and prepare for their arrival. Surely a business can do better than this.

Horizon did a very successful renovation on our dated, 90’s-style home. From our first meeting with Tim to our final follow-up, our renovation was as easy as it could possibly have been. We are quite experienced with building and renovations, but we have never had this smooth and enjoyable of a reno. We have a fantastic new kitchen (for which a wall came out), a new living room fireplace wall, new powder room, new office, new front hall, handrails, and all new flooring. We feel like we’re living in a new house! All of this was completed within the time frame we were told, and we were really close to being on budget, as well, so we are very happy. Our site supervisor Dave was very friendly and excellent to work with and responded immediately to every query. Our first couple of meetings with Tim were really useful, in that he was able to look at our house with fresh-but-experienced eyes, so he got us thinking about things differently than our designer was talking about. It is really because of Tim we ended up with such successful design work here. I should add, Horizon seems to be careful to use tradespeople for each portion of the job who are skilled in that particular area. We didn’t have anyone onsite who was trying to work above their skill level, so of course this gave us a good result with each task. And our trades all had good things to say about working for Horizon, whether they were in-house or sub-contracted. I think in these days of skilled labour shortages and such a busy local renovation market, Horizon is managing to delight their clients and have everybody moving in happy. We couldn’t be more pleased to recommend Horizon for a renovation or new build - they are real pros at this stuff, in a way we have never before experienced. It’s all in the details, and these people are very good at the details!

Recently I had an emergency at my home which required some quick action and good work. My sister had just had work done in her home by Horizon Contracting so she recommended to call Sam. He was at my door immediately and not only gave me great advice, but also advised me to take greater care than I thought I needed. He warned me to the danger of the situation I had no idea how bad it was. My deck which was attached to a sunroom, was completely waterlogged and ready to come down. The main beams were like soggy sponges and you could grab gobs of wet pulp in your hands. Sam showed me how serious this was and how the deck had not been built properly. If not taken care of right away, the deck could come down and pull away the sunroom with it.

Sam brought a Horizon crew the very next day. The work was done so quickly and efficiently, every detail was taken care of, and the quality was beautiful. James led the team, and Christian and Brian were there working so well together, all really nice guys. Lots of other specialist guys came to totally replace the deck, with new columns underneath, and concrete bases, they even had to jack up the sunroom to put new columns there, and the sliding glass door. The deck was made with a nice rainproof flooring, a better metal top rail, new drywall holding the new small sized window, with it’s own easy to use blind inside so it would never get dirty, and double sided screen door. The sunroom is so much nicer now, and safer.

James built a new fence which had to come down underneath the deck. The craftsmanship and quickness with which he did this was astounding. He also built a gate by himself in a style which is exactly my taste and looks so wonderful with my house. I was amazed how beautifully he made this gate, and was so nice to have around. He had wonderful and clever ideas, obviously a very experienced carpenter.

It's such a change to work with construction guys who were all really nice family guys. We felt safe, respected, and so happy with them being around. I was happy leaving my daughter with them working around, going inside and outside the house. If I gave them tea or cookies, the plates were always brought back nicely at the end of the day, not left outside for me to find dirty that evening. They cleaned up, never left things in a horrid mess. I felt they respected our lives and had to do the work, but as cleanly and quietly as possible. There was no glaring music, no swearing, more like nice conversations going on out there. Every person who came to the house in connection with Horizon was so nice and such a good worker, I cannot express enough how grateful I feel.

We've had the privilege of working with Horizon Pacific Contracting on numerous projects and can say, with the utmost confidence, that Tim Agar and his team are committed from the beginning of each project to ensure their clients are completely satisfied with their home and are continuously apprising them of the construction costs at every phase throughout the process. Creating a new home can be a stressful endeavor but Horizon Pacific is always there to assist the client: from helping purchase the land and selecting consultants, to providing the highest level of craftsmanship in the construction. As the Architect on several of their custom homes, we can't say enough about the integrity and proficiency of this builder. "

In 2016 we contracted Horizon to build a custom home for us in Sidney. This involved the demolition a previous home and then the construction of a home where my mother, who has some health issues, could have her own space but be also able to interact with my wife and I. We were very happy with them from start to finish. We moved in November 2018.

One of the best things we liked about Horizon was the reliable people they worked with. This started with a recommendation for an architect that really got to know us and designed a house that fit all our requirements and which had a number of unique features - elevator, roof top hot tub, solar panels and a back-up generator.

This also extended to the subcontractors who all did quality work which we are very happy with. They showed up when they said they would and completed their work in a timely manner.

Dave Fallows was our project manager and did an outstanding job. We truly felt that he "got us" and made sure we were always satisfied. His experience in the carpentry was a huge asset since he knows our house from the foundation up.

We are very happy with Horizon's workmanship and would gladly recommend them to anyone doing a custom house build.

Horizon over saw a replacement of our decking system. The workers had to access the decks through the units. They were respectful and quiet. They also organized a membrane review with the engineering team, and a roofer to make minor membrane repairs. The tiling was also subcontracted.

Everything was well coordinated, timely and done to our satisfaction. We've worked with a number of contractors over the years, and Horizon was among the best. We would gladly work with them again.

Horizon does incredible work and we are very proud to supply doors and windows for many of their projects!

Horizon employs some good sub-contractors but their finishing trades and coordination staff struggle.
