Hungry Bear

In one word. AMAZING!

I've eaten sushi at a ton of different establishments, including many along the coastline with fresh fish - and can't remember rolls EVER tasting as good as the FSJ rolls!

The beef plate I had was equally amazing with a TON of aged beef, amazing sauce, fresh cooked but still crispy veggies, and fresh rice served separately in a small bowl to keep it hot (brilliant).

Cozy little dine-in with super friendly and attentive staff. I ordered my meal, ate it, paid and was out the door in under an hour at a very busy time.

Cash vs food value is five stars!

My only complaint is I found this gem on my last day here

This is my go to spot in FSJ for delicious and comforting food. I love the tofu stew, the red hot chicken, short rib, and any of the bulgogi, bibimbap, and gimbap options. Excellent place for quality Korean food and staff that make sure your experience is a good one. Hungry Bear is a true gem.

I had the Spicy Pork DolSot Bibimbap. It was incredibly delicious, the service was lovely and I can't wait to go back. A colleague had the sweet and spicy Korean chicken (which was a large and yummy bowl of chicken but came with no veggies or rice). It would have been better family style with other dishes or as a shared appie.

Delicious food and friendly service. I have tried their Japanese dishes and Korean dishes and have always enjoyed what I've ordered. They also serve western dishes, but I have not tried them. They have my favourite 'toasted brown rice' green tea. Service is always quick, and prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend.

My hubby and I love eating here or ordering out. The food is always hot and stays hot the whole time you're dining in. I am always filled and tend to have leftovers for the next day. Our last visit the restaurant was quite busy, and with only 1 waitress, it was hard to get my drinks refilled, and tables weren't being cleaned off for other people to come in and sit down. A few people sat down and then left 10 mins later cause they hadn't even been acknowledged or given menus. I know she was ran off her feet and super busy, but maybe another staff member could have came out of the back to at least do a quick table clean up or handed some menus out. Other than that experience, we are always happy to order at Hungry Bear.

First time last night preordered. It was fresh, hot and very good. Will definitely go back and try more dishes. Service was excellent!

Iv have sadly not been in fsj for a few years.i moved to Victoria and now pg but.iv never found chicken yakysoba any where that compares to hungry bear.i frickin miss this place so much. YUMMMM

LOVE the authentic Korean dishes here! The spicy pork bulgogi is my absolute favourite! Go on! Give it a try! I know you'll love it!

Unique bear decor adds such a charm to this whole in the wall eatery. Lovely staff and delicious food.

Stopped here while passing through FT StJohn, small restaurant and great Korean food. I would eat here again.

I have mixed feelings here, not because the food quality is poor or something along those lines.

Heck, I've eaten in, taken out and had it delivered and never once have I thought "well, that was a bad idea. "

It boils down to this; they have an expansive menu that has Korean, Thai, Chinese, Western and Japanese and because they do it all, it's not the best versions of those dishes.

That said, order what ever tickles your fancy and you will undoubtedly enjoy it. They have it figured out and while it's not perfect, it is worth it.

TL;DR - You can't go wrong with Hungry Bear, they have so much on offer and they do it well.

Bibimbap served in a hot bowl sounds awesome, right? However, rice actually hardened big time, almost as if eating raw rice. Without the sauce that came with the dish, it would have been super bland, sadly. Was really looking forward to it.

Service was friendly but very slow - place wasn't packed, but they were busy with skip the dishes orders.

Fried rice was good but curry was just okay.

The restaurant itself was fairly spacious and an ok atmosphere, The sitting area was very small, The Teriyaki chicken was half warm half cold it was a very confusing temperature and swimming in oil, the half a bowl of miso soup had a greasy after taste, the rice was not to bad same with the coffee

Very surprised! I travel across Canada to Fairbanks! Came to this city and found such a delicious restaurant! Lots of variety of food! And they all look delicious! We ordered a lot of dishes and they were all my favorites! Highly recommend this Japanese restaurant

My go to place to eat when I am passing through FSJ! The food and staff are wonderful. It is awesome to have a ramen place here in the North that is this good

Consistent amazing service, wonderful staff, and great portion sizes. The owners are friendly and clearly love what they do. The menu truly has something for every pallette!
