ICBC Driver Licensing

Went to renew my DL and was asked if I had an appointment. Who the beans thought you would need an appointment. So I left as I was on my break. Went to book an appointment and could not get in until 2 days past my birthday. So went back the next day. Again asked if I had an appointment then was advised it would be up to an hour wait. Been here for an hour and a half.still waiting. VERY POORLY MANAGED BUSINESS. I would add a photo but was told not pictures are allowed yet they have a qr code to scan on the walls? Power tripping employee.

I went here today for my class 7 road test. Didn't pass unfortunately, but the examiner was very kind and patient. He clearly explained the test, asked if there were any maneuvers I was nervous about, and was altogether very nice. I had accidentally gone 60 in a 50 zone, since I didn't notice the sign, and he said he actually may not have failed me for that alone, but there were some other things I messed up on, which is fair. I've seen some bad reviews for this place, and just wanted to say that my experience was very positive, and everyone I spoke to here was very kind and welcoming.

Absolutely disgusting place, probably the most racist place in all Canada! The driving instructor is soooo racist once she saw my skin color her face immediately frowned up! To fail me she asked me to do illegal things like turn left when there is no left and then demarked me when I didn't obey! I have class 1 license from my country for 15 years and you are telling me I can't pass a class 5 because you trick me and asked me to do illegal stuff and I rejected that? If you are middle eastern or African STAY AWAY you will face recriminations very clearly!

The staff members are always very nice and friendly at this location!

Before my class 5 test, the examiner told me clearly what she expects from me for the test. It really helped me overcome my anxiety. The road test was very smooth. Not tricky at all. Examiner gave clear instructions during the test and gave good feedbacks after the test. Please be mindful that the examiners only want to see if you are a safe driver, so please be patient, and drive safe.

Today was yet again a Fail, I had Jerry. The grumpy man that gave me such anxiety that I felt sick even driving. I was already feeling that way but it got worse. I've got test anxiety and I did mention that to him. I felt targeted as I drive yes a different car than others right hand drive but that's my only vehicle, bringing another vehicle that I'm not used to is not an option. Unfortunately the way I'm feeling I will never book in Kamloops again.

Was greeted by a woman who obviously hates her life and wants to make others miserable. She asks questions and doesn't actually want you to answer. Had to talk to three other women and only one of them was pleasant. I can't imagine having to go here for a test where you are already nervous.
Also, what is the point of booking online to line up with everyone else and wait past your booked time?

I am very confused as to why other walk in appointments were getting helped before me, even though they came in after me. The wait was extremely long, and the overall service wasn't great. At least the individual who helped me in the end was kind and polite. That's the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. If there was anywhere else in kamloops I could go for licensing inquiries, I would

I have never had a decent experience here. Passed my road test, but the driving instructor was incredibly rude and very harsh. Made driving around very uncomfortable, especially when the test is already nerve wracking. If I had the choice, I would not return here.

Wow! Everyone is so nice and so friendly! When the doors opened at 830am a fellow was right there to greet us, he explained everything, I had a renewal to do, didn’t even have to wait 5 mins…The lady named Brenda was so nice, very personable and efficient! Everyone was so professional! Thanks for the nice atmosphere at 830am Friday morning.

The benefit of making an appointment - I was in and out within minutes and the lady who assisted me was an absolute sweetheart!

Came here to exchange licenses. I had everything that was documented on the ICBC website to bring but was turned away. They will only accept your drivers history if it is either mailed or faxed into them. Little outdated but hey what can you do

More of subjective judgement for the road test. Different standards for shoulder checks for different instructor thus making it frustrating.
The South Asian instructor was also rude and had bad attitude making it hard to comfortably drive.

Went for a driving test, the instructor made some very unjust comments went to complain and the blonde manager basically laughed at us a treated us as if we were 6years old too dumb to understand. Terrible management and customer service!

Had to go in for my 5 year drivers license renewal. I made my appointment on line, which by the way was super easy with lots of options. Got reminders via text or email for my appointment so I wouldn't miss it. I was in and out in less than ten minutes. Well done ICBC!

Since it was more or less paying a tax to renew my driver's license I was not really excited to fork over the money but the lady helping me was very nice and polite to me.

Had an amazing experience today whilst taking my Class 5 Road Test. Instructor was extremely friendly and pointed out what I did well, as well as what I didn't do as well. Will definitely recommend this branch for anyone seeking to get their Class 5.

I'd like to give a shout out to Ian! I recently traveled to Kamloops for a class 4 road test. I accidentally sped right at the beginning of the test which is an instant fail but he still took me out to ensure I knew what I had to do for the next test. When I heard I had failed I was heartbroken knowing I'd have to make another4 hour trip for another test but Ian went back inside to check the next date he would be in lillooet and manages ro fit me in on his lunch break. I am amazed at this kind gesture. It was a very long day for him and he still gave his break up to be a nice person. I greatly appreciate him and and I hope that your organization recognizes his genuine kind nature.

I passed my N and my examiner Christina (I think so) was really friendly and inspiring! But the reason I gave 4 stars is that my friend was judged to fail in the shoulder check standards of different scales in the hands of other examiners, so I suggest that ICBC can specify a uniform and fair standard and reduce the subjective judgment of the road test. I really find that every examiner seems to be assessing on a different scale, and I obviously don't want the road test to be a luck-based assessment. Driving in BC is expensive and many people are under pressure. The waiting period for failure is too long, and it affects the lives of many people. Some of you employees may find it really funny and authoritative, but new drivers are really being tortured.

Attending my N failed here, Riley is a cool and clam person. But I don't know when I'm blocking the driveway, and the expectations for shoulder inspections aren't clear. And he intervened early when I was about to stop backing at the end, and I could have stopped safely. Finally, a reminder to those who will be taking the road test: don't trust the examiner not to set traps for you! Also don't think that you can pass 100% with hard work, you need 50% or more luck (examiner, weather, road conditions). Fairly fair overall, but I'm really frustrated, spending a huge amount of time and cost practicing hard and failing with obscure mistakes. So what, they have a monopoly on everything, and yet I still don't know when I'll pass the road test.

This is a terrible location I was made to wait an hour for my license renewal (showing up at 230 and waited until 345) then told at the counter that I only was getting it today due to the fact I came early. On top of that I also overheard to examiners telling eachother they were going to "get" the person taking there driving test test (failing is a regular occurrence without proper reasoning) this branch really need to be assessed or shut down, shame on you icbc

Complaining to a manager here will do nothing as they will inform the person you complain about and they will punish you in a vindictive way

So my first time, going into do my road test. I was a good experience.the guy was very calm and collected.even tho I failed, he was nice, took his time to explain why I failed and what I need to improve on. Awesome I can respect that.
Second time, was a little different tho.i had this female instructor that honestly made me feel very rush, and uncomfortable driving with, at the end of the Test she pretty much tells me "Yea you fail" list only 2 things that I did wrong, which I'd love a second opinion on.hands me the paper ask if I have any question then leaves.
Well 3rd time for road test. There's alot so I'll keep it short.   It was a joke.
Same girl as my 2nd test, she comes out of ICBC.   Colleen is her name.
I forgot my L at home so when she came out, I said "hello before we start the test I accidentally forgot  my L at home by chance can I have one for the test". She looks in her binder, she doesnt have one so she gotta go back into the building.and so I'm with my grandpa which he is 80 years old, so I thought it would be appropriate to ask her.   like "hey can my Grandpa go and wait in the building or does he have to stay out  here". Well she looks at me rolls her eyes at me turns away start walking away from me a say to me  "No he had to say out here due to Covid"  and not in the most pleasant tone.well that made me mad. Who do you think you are to roll you're eyes at me for asking a simple question for the sake of my grandfather,   very unprofessional Colleen.out of this I didnt get to do my test

The old gf got failed on 5 over the rule is 10 over for instant failed, they don’t even know the rules of the road they have no business running these test. (I phoned their main office to confirm and unless 10 over not a fail)

I know nobody likes ICBC or DMVs. But people here were very friendly, courteous and tried to help me best to their ability. I know there are many negative reviews but things are not all that bad.

Daughter took her N test today, roads were not nice, she slid, causing her to fail, but once back and going over her test, the instructor told her had she lived in Salmon Arm, he would have passed her. Very unprofessional as well as discriminatory. Not pleased.

Very helpful and very organized they helped me change over my license very quickly and easily and gave me a proper introduction.

Great my daughter got lisc and now i dont have to do anymore driving back forth to work and everything.

I am not impressed that they will not assist after 10am any walk in requests.i simply wanted my drivets abstract.no i cannot get it on line because it's not recognizing my information. The site is not very user friendly.

First I was very upset with this place as my first person who I took the test was very unfriendly and it didn't feel like he was trying to help but only tried to find ways to fail me! My second experience is the only reason I give ICBC 5 stars thanks to Kal, not only he has calmed me down to 0 stress but it felt like he was passionate about what he is doing and felt like he was there for me and it showed me that there are still people in this world that care and want to help you not only watch you fail! Thank you Kal you saved ICBCs reputation and the 5 stars are for you!

The old guy there doesn't know how to take photo. He was acting weird when taking photo and loud too.

0 stars! Went here for my road test. Instructor was not just unfriendly but untrustworthy. ICBC is this the best you can do for hiring instructors? This needs to stop. I have read enough horrible reviews about these instructors. My question is why does ICBC continue to let these people work as road test instructors knowing they are abusing their power, lying and disrespecting people? Its repulsive. If you need a road test DO NOT go here. Horrible experience.

The new online appointment system is awesome! Our appointments went very smoothly and the staff were very friendly and helpful

Absolutely horrible service, my learners expires in October and still no road tests, I'm gonna go raise hell if I gotta take my learner's again and wait another year! Unbelievable!

The truck that I borrowed wasn't nice enough for the examiner. I waited since covid began for this test. Didn't get examiners name and glad i didnt because I dont like the taste of bile in my throat. It felt sincerely classist/discriminatory. Lights all checked out, hand signals were fine, but he would'nt get in because there was a towel on the seat. Meanwhile the examiner beside us had an icbc issued seat cover that she put on her seat before she got in. Next time ill have to borrow the audi or the jag.
All things considered the reception staff and clerks were very accommodating, polite, and helpfull, which was nice.

So rude. Poor customer service and I don't see a smile on their face. The person who handled me didn't wear mask and expect us to have mask on all time.

Was a good experience with friendly people and very informative in any subject I had questions about.

Quick and easy to deal with.
I'm happy with the service from them. They're doing their best in these covid time. Just make sure that you have an appointment with them. The atmosphere is very friendly and they're always ready to help and clear any doubts regarding the licensing.

Lines were a little crazy. My advice is to make scheduled appointment online and be 5 mins early.

I had an appointment before I arrived. You had to check in before your appointment which I did 10 minutes early, I still waited 40 minutes after my appointment time to get in? Unacceptable.

Rode up from kelowna to take my road Test. Woman who tested me wasnt even a motorcycle rider. Falsely accused me of running a red light, however she would have ran it too if that was the case. Never ran a red in my life, certainly not going to start on my road test. Could see in my mirrors both Woman were laughing and chatting the whole time. Directions were very unclear. On top of this, they had me back into a stall where my motorbike was now facing downwards.which is a big no, as if not in gear, the bike would have popped out of the kick stand and fallen over. Having taken a motorcycle training course, I was extremely disappointment in the lack of professionalism as well as overall care taken by my instructor, who seemed unsure in every word she said. Will be wearing a helmet cam next time.

I went on Monday and saw a line up that went around the corner. I thought there must be a better way. Realized you can book an appointment and I was able to book for the next morning. Got in right away and renewed my licence in less that 10 minutes!

Ok. I wanted an estimate. My insurance cost, with my discounts. I don't own the vehicle, but I would like to buy it. O need to know how much my insurance would be for a year. Now, I'll have to wait in line. Etc. This site did not help me. Wasted my time. Zena Lawrence

Worst place for road test, don't go to this place. Complete waste of time and money. I saw number of people who passed their road test in first try, visiting nearby towns but not in Kamloops because Kamloops instructors have no sense at all.

Get some more staff.there were 20 people waiting for service when I popped in.that's a disgrace and shows disrespect for other people's time

A decent office with good staff. Those who didn't pass their drivers test. Well learn to drive properly. I did an exam with these guys during winter conditions with not great tires and manual transmission and had no problem. As a driver who deals with poor drivers daily I'm glad that the test for a licence is difficult. If you didn't pass a test then think about your skills and why that test exists in the first place. A lot of entitled people thinking they deserve Royal treatment. Great job with seating everyone and getting to them in a timely matter. Coming from your perspective you're doing as well as can be expected. Everyone hates insurance rates and changing times but don't take it out on staff who are doing a decent job and just that a job.
