ICBC Driver Licensing

I wouldn't have thought of giving this place five stars, but online booking of an appointment has really improved things. My wait after checking into my appointment was only about 2 minutes. They were completely on schedule for me. The entire process took about 8 minutes, including checking in, the photo for my renewed driver's license, and paying and everything. There was plenty of parking in the parking lot.

Terrible service. I had to wait over 30 mins for my scheduled appointment and when I was one question away from passing my knowledge test my partner was calling me and messaging as he was waiting in the parking lot for over an hour. I pulled my phone out to check his messages. Then my screen goes blank and they immediately failed me.

Here's a hot tip: instead of saying before the test that if you can't use your phone to look up any answers, let people know that if you pull your phone out for ANY reason in the testing room you will be IMMEDIATELY disqualified.

Waste of time and money! It’s funny how a customer service job can cause you to have such a power trip.

I was driving great and then suddenly a wasp or hornet entered the vehicle and was threatening to sting me, I tried to sway at it which resulted in the vehicle swerving into the next lane, which is a dangerous action and therefore an unsuccess. At one point it even landed on my forehead and hands while I was steering. TBH I rather fail then get stung as I'm actually allergic to stings. That was my second attempt. Wasps should be outlawed and made illegal, I would've been a safe driver if wasps didn't exist. No offers of appeals either.

Just passed my class 4 commercial vehicle test in 3rd try under supervision of @ Brad He is super awesome man with outstanding driving testing experience and straightforward instructions while test. I was stressed about 2 previous failures and thinking what am i doing wrong as i have been already driving on class 5 for 5 years. I found out he did not tricked and interrupted me after my every move and i felt confident and fearless while driving. Hope most of new test givers get him as instructor. 10 out of 10 to Brad.

Went there for a road test early in the mornjng. Everything went smoothly and quickly right from the moment I got there. I wanna commend the driving examiner assigned to me, Paul. Awesome guy! He did a really great job! Very professional and nice. I was at ease with him during the actual test and made me feel that he’s not there to trick me but to observe and give me proper directions. So lucky I got assigned to him!

I got Paul as my examiner today for class 5 road test. Must say he’s an amazing person, very polite, calm and extremely professional. Thankfully I passed, his explanation after the test were very clear and he also provided some great tips on what things to keep in mind while driving in cloudy/rainy weather. From our conversation, I can definitely say that he’s very knowledgeable and has some really good experience. A big thanks to Paul!

One of the worst experiences I've had with a driving instructor. If you get the guy named PAUL. Don't even bother. Biggest power trip I've ever met and disrespected me and my situation by mocking the jeopardy theme song while I was figuring out my insurance. Then on the road test put his arm infront of my field of vision to point at a sign and distracted my driving to say I was going 5 over. Completely unprofessional. He then proceeded to say its ok to talk to customers that way after I said I want to speak to a manager. These people are unionized and could care less about why your there or who you are. Your best off to go to Duncan to get your road test your your own mental health. DO NOT GO HERE!

I took the class 5 test today with Paul. Horrible attitude, and unprofessional instructions. He made me feel more nervous than I already was. Giving instructions to me to turn 1 second before the corner with no prior notice multiple times. The last-second instructions had me confused and ultimately cost me this test. Please give me an option to not retake my test with certain examiners

5 star review strictly for Greg R the driving instructor. Actually chatted with me and made me feel comfortable during the test instead of being a quiet stern hardo like all other instructors I’ve dealt with in the past. Thanks Greg!

I met Terry 3 times and I was fell by him. He was very unfriendly and reluctant, just fail for the sake of fail. I don’t know if it’s Asian. And my other two friends were also failed by him. I hope he can always pull into his desired parking spot within 30 seconds. Because he said it was too long for me to reverse the car for a minute. And all traffic lights are red. Don’t thank me.

I passed my class 5 road test today with Colin. He was very kind and genuinely enjoys his job, He was also very professional and fair. All the qualities that you want in a road test examiner. Thanks again for the great road test Colin!

Shoutout to Dean for being a wonderful examiner. Passed my class 5 road test on my very first attempt. Dean’s instructions were very clear and easy to follow, and I did not feel nervous at all even though I was taking the test in a vehicle that was not my daily driver. This icbc is a pretty busy branch but the wait times are quite well managed.

Reception was incredibly rude and sassy, so unnecessary. Also super unhelpful. This is some people’s first impression of BC/Canada. Honestly just overall terrible service

I showed up late to my class 5 road test and was still accommodated. I passed on my first attempt with Brett. He was very friendly and professional, helping with my nerves.

Its sad anytime I have to visit this place. Dropped in on Saturday and just needed to update my ID the whole place was empty and I still had to go back because I did not have an appointment. I now have to make another trip next week just so they can do their 5 minute job. So annoying.

I had my second road test with Brett. Unlike my first examiner, he was very polite and professional and didn’t distract me with talking about non-relevant stuff. It was a very nice experience!

Tv would tell you that the DMV is what nightmare is made of. But this was well organized, everyone was nice and the service was quick. Amazing!

I recently have been studying and taking driver training to further a new career. I was pretty anxious all week, and put a lot of time in to make sure I would be successful. When your success, and the success of your family is on the line you can be a bit rattled and nervous. Enter my road test examiner Andrew. I think he could sense my nerves and put me at ease right away with some personal banter and calm energy. The pre trip inspection and the road test went well and he was very professional. When I’m nervous I like to break the tension with small talk about family and personal experiences. Andrew answered all my questions and shared life experiences. He allowed for a calm atmosphere, and an extremely enjoyable experience.
I have had issues with examiners in the past which fuelled my anger and anxiety when taking tests. Andrew is the kind of guy you want performing these examinations. There was no arrogance, or bravado, just a guy doing his job to the best of his ability, and succeeding from what I could tell. Thank you.

I had a very negative experience with this location. I had a class 7 road test with Dean on August 30,2022 at 9: 30am and I am deeply disappointed in my result. This was the second time taking this test and I failed. He was very unwelcoming and did not even bother trying to make me feel welcome from the beginning. His advice and reason for failing was that I was driving too slow at times at a pace of 45km which is not true as I would go more than that when needed but since there was traffic in the residential areas, I had to slow down. I also allegedly put my turn signals on to early when I wanted to make a turn but this is not fully true as I would usually am to do it within about a metre before making the turn. I do not recommend this location at all, it is clear they will fail you several times just to make a quick buck.

Convenient location to get to from any part of Victoria. Organized and efficient process to get the Service ID done.

The receptionist was so mean to several people in front of me. Her cold tone made them (obviously newcomers to BC) stammering and upset. Once it was my turn I was interrogated and blamed for mishandling of documents that were sent by my motor vehicle agencies on my behalf, that I had called to confirm were sent, and were not. I was not at fault and this woman reamed me out and humiliated me. Not sure her name but I would stay away. My next agent was very helpful but the “first impression” at the door ruined this experience for me. I thought receptionists were supposed to be friendly…

The lady at the reception was confusing to talk to and quite unfriendly when I couldn’t understand what’s she’s asking for. Plus the line up, thus the 1 star

The employees at this centre were friendly, warm, and either had all the information about the services that the centre provides or were promptly willing to get the answer from another colleague.

On a separate note, the people in the queue were really nice too; it was a straightforward experience in getting my job done, even though I had chosen to "walk-in" instead of having an appointment.

I had my motorcycle road test with Greg and his assistant. They both were very professional and friendly. Over all all the staff there very professional and helpful.

This was the first time I had a genuine positive interaction with an examiner. The examiners name is Ashley, I had my Class 4 road test. Having taken the road test previously for other classes I was exposed to other examiners, their demeanor and customer service skills. I can't say enough good things about Ashley and hope that management reads this and acknowledges her for her work.

Genuinely friendly, caring and positive individual, which is great for anyone who has test anxiety. Helps put you at easy and preform the tasks you are required to show that your a good driver. She is very fair, gave clear and concise commands, kept a conversation during the exam and didn't completely just shut off, some examiners at this location are the complete opposite. This helps again with individuals that are nervous and brings their stress levels down, allowing for less mistakes to be made on the road. Any questions that I had she answered them in a professional manner. Very happy that I had her as an examiner.

I love how they're set up now. Book an appointment. Arrive for your appointment. Follow clearly laid out signage. Quickly get your business taken care of by kind people doing a hard job. Complete your visit. Done! Super easy and very efficient.

Just made an appointment yesterday for this morning. Very positive experience all round. Easy parking, explicit instructions on posters to indicate route when inside the building with direction arrows on floor.
24 open counters with digital display to show when your number was available.
Staff were efficient and friendly. Whole experience took about ten minutes.

Unprofessional and rude people. I have been to this place 3-4 times and sorry to say every time I had the same experience. I have met 5 employees in total out of them I found only one made me feel welcomed and not discriminated. I moved from another province and I feel the registry offices over there were a professional place. I miss backhome every time I visit this ICBC.

I took my class 5 road test on 28 January at this location and I have to say that my examiner Hannah was extremely helpful and calm lady. I passed my test with flying colours. Nevertheless, the front desk staff was bit rude. Overall, my experience was great.

Make an appointment online before you go, makes all the difference. Good, clean, efficient place. Friendly staff.

Take a book! Even with an appointment time you may have to wait a while. Staff doing their best though, kudos to them.

Today's road conditions were perfectly clear, but ICBC still decided to cancel my road test. As a BC resident, I cannot even get a road test in my own province. I will have go to another province just to get a driver's license. Shame on ICBC.

80% of the staff here look unprofessional and have disgusting behaviour, especially towards young adults who are already nervous for driving tests. Do better.

I accept that I may have failed my first attempt. But I feel as though, Cindy, was rude and overly critical, and did not offer any advice on how to improve on what she didn't like.
I made 5 attempts to express concern about wearing a covid mask and corrective lenses, as the lenses were fogging and my vision was obstructed. She offered no helpful solution.
She claims that I ran a red light, but in a busy construction zone and behind a 5tonne truck, was unable to see the light until i was well passed the stop line and continued through.
My car is old and the speedometer is a dial, she claims that I was speeding in a park zone but the dial was sitting on 30km/hr from my position. Her vision and assessment of my driving speeds were from the passenger seat and incorrect. She also made claim that I drove 70km which I know I didn't not. I was driving 60km/hr in an area that I did not see the speed limit posted. She claims I need to work on my hazard perception but did not elaborate on what I missed or what to look

Given that we're in the middle of a pandemic a license renewal was a rather easy job, all because of the staff

A few months ago I went to take my driving test and luckily I got a lady named Cindy I will never forget! She is an intimidating, rude person, and I felt discriminated against… she doesn't give you a bit of confidence or you're going to do well… I'm not new to driving. In my report she alleged certain things that I do not agree with. I feel like she just wanted to fail me.

To the examiner name kerri please advice her to be professional in doing her job. First thing first getting in the car dont be rude the car is clean dont act that its dirty or so. 2nd dont yell when the driver is trying to merge safely. I dont know how you become a examiner if you act like "KAREN".

I passed my road test here on 20 Oct 2021. My examiner was the best I ever had. The road test was like going for a ride with a friend and that made me feel less anxious and relaxed.

Really good if you book an appointment ahead of time. If you don't have an appointment you can expect a loooong wait.

I had my class 5 drivers test today and I'm so glad Hannah was my instructor. She was so calm and it just felt like I was driving around with a friend. She was very clear at giving directions making it even more easier and comfortable driving. I passed my test on the 1st attempt. ICBC should have supervisors like her.

Aren't seniors supposed to have priority? There was a 94-year-old man in front of me, who had to wait more than an hour on his feet. Where is de ICBC manager?

I booked a test at this location to obtain my Class 5 license. My test was on last day and I reached ICBC 15 mins earlier, submitted my appointment and the front desk lady officer finished things very quickly and asked me to waited outside in the car. Despite going into it nervous, my examiner Navjot (NS) was really great and professional. Very clear instructions. As I was driving we had some conversation and his overall calmness helped me get in a good headspace and to get full confidence on my road test. At the end of the test, he has given a very good feedback on my driving. ICBC needs examiners like NS who is knowledgeable, professional and kind. I am so happy to have a full license and to be taking the next steps in life. Big thank you to Navjot!

My licensing experience was great even though I failed the first time. My instructors were clear and gave excellent feedback

First of all, i passed. Huge relief. The branch wasn't busy at all. All the things got wrapped up in no time. The test was nearly 30 minutes. She told me a couple of mistakes that i made and still passed me and thats really appreciated. The route is such that when you go through the first signal, there is a school sign just behind the signal which most people don't see. So take care about it and good luck.

Would not honor mask exemption and failed me twice for made up reasons. Very suspicious behavior, I've never heard of an examiner having to go into the back room to "do the math" with the same supervisor who screamed at me across the room for having medical disability that prevents me from wearing a mask. DISGUSTING unprofessional behavior and a personal bias.

I booked a test at this location to obtain my Class 5 license. My test was today and I arrived 25 minutes early due to COVID causing lineups but they had a system for filtering knowledge test vs road test which was effective and moved things along quickly. Despite going into it nervous, my instructor Andrew was really great. As I was driving we had some conversation and his overall calmness helped me get in a good headspace. I had my Class 5 road test today and I passed. Thanks to the lady at the front desk she was so nice and encouraging. I recently relocated to Victoria to work as a Nurse and it has been crazy for me so far. I really want to appreciate My examiner Nathan who was so professional and kind. He made my experience today the only good thing that has happened to me ever since I arrived to Victoria. I really do appreciate your professionalism. There is nothing better than having an examiner who makes you feel comfortable and less anxious during the road test.

The staff do not wear masks. The shields of plexiglass are narrow and have a huge gap before the next one. As a nurse, I can tell you that their breath is traveling well past those narrow shields, and they're exposing all public to their pathogens.

They also speak rudely, and do not take any effort in giving clear directions to those navigating their office. Very sad group think going on in this environment. *Stood in line for quite a while, and it was the same treatment to every customer.

I just had a terrible experience at this location. The person who served me was rude and unplesant. She visibly disliked her job. When I think about it, in retrospect, I can't blame her. Perferming menial tasks over and over and over again. She was relunctantly wearing scars of despair. Her lack of enthousiam was so embedded in her physical movements and behaviors, that for a moment, I feared that she would turn to dust to then be swept away by the light breeze making its way in through the open door. Her eyes deep and dazed with disatisfaction and resentment for me and I think herself as well. I hope that this lady finds light in her life and rediscovers what it means be happy. Their updated system allowed me to get in and out in 15 minutes. Including waiting in line and get my license photo.

Sure there is a line like at any provincial or federal services kiosk, but once you get to the clerk, they are attentive, friendly, and thorough! This location did an amazing job especially with COVID restrictions in place.

When renewing your license, make sure to go online and make an appointment first. This makes things go much more smoothly when you arrive. A good system with reminders built in!

Other than a medium to long wait sometimes, I've never had a bad experience in the many times I've been here. They do exactly what they are supposed to. There's some good comedy in reading the reviews of kids who can't pass a road test though!

Unfair examiner! I had a road test with at this location, the examiner i had was very unfair, i had been warned about him from 3 people already that he purposely puts people at fault.he made 3 false statements about my driving and when i talked to the supervisor about the fact that i witnessed him making up faults that i didn't commit, and purposely putting me at fault by yelling at me to stop on a left turn waiting area at the moment at was stopping, the supervisor wouldn't listen to me and insisted on the fact that "he trusts him because he is professional examiner". The main reason i stepped up to speak to the manager was that i heard 3 similar stories about the same examiner and the common factor between me and these people is that we are not Canadian; so this could be racial discrimination

Rude staff, lack of supervision, extremely unhelpful services.
I could not believe how they treat people that are not familiar with the routine just because they are new to BC or to the country. They forgot that they are there to help people not to look down on them and keep rolling their eyes.
There has not been a single time that I go down there and they don’t misinform, mistreat or do their job in the worst possible way.

Made an appointment at 10: 10, waited for more than 30mins and people without the appointment were attended much faster. Very disappointed.

Don’t do your road test here if you haven’t been driving in Victoria a while you will fail terribly.

I've seen this same review allready, but.dont come to this icbc for your road test if you're not familiar with this area of victoria. The icbc is sandwiched between a few schools, I was speeding on my way for my road test and failed my test because the instructor "saw me speeding while testing someone else" before I even got there.

Making an online appointment is DEFINITELY the way to go. There was still a moderate wait - maybe 10 minutes but far better than standing in the "other" lineup.
Booking the appointment was easy as well.

Had excellent covid procedures and very friendly staff. Little bit of a wait but it was busy so acceptable.

5/5 Made an appointment for a license renewal just before noon. I was in and out in about 10 min. Was no line and that staff were very friendly. Good Covid procedures.

Strongly recommend having an appointment before going if possible. I did not have long to wait outside. Others where still in line by the time I was finished renewing my license.

Excellent service. I used the Sidney office to avoid wait times and the staff there were super friendly and my renewal took literally, around 5 minutes - stand in front of the camera, click click, print, pay and take your receipts. Keep up the good work folks!

This location has been great. Passed my class 5 test last week.
Booking online was simple with many dates to choose from. If you have a tight schedule then check daily cause people cancel.
On time as scheduled, no backlog. My ICBC Examiner was professional, kind and calm which provided a non-stress environment for my test. Thank you Kim!

Girlfriend was hit by someone who did not shoulder check and had her car totalled. ICBC somehow ruled it as a 50/50 and has left us without a car or any options, short of offering us a quarter of the car's actual price. For future reference, I like to be wine and dined before I get f&%*ed, ICBC.

Lost my wallet, still had expired, that day, DL. Lady wouldnt accept their OWN piece of ID! Plus I had passport.

Very very poor service zero help and rude.
This is a poor set up the only ppl this helps and dose not hinder are the ones working there. This is to bad as other provinces have a much more fluent process for everything.
Bc healthcare needs to up grade to a better system come on guys.
