Just popped by on our way through town as our truck had a check engine light pop up, we showed up unannounced and needed a code reading before continuing our trip. We were helped immediately and reassured we were safe to continue on our way! Really lucky to have found this shop today!

This garage is fantastic. Open 7 days a week, the mechanics and front desk are courteous, helpful and very knowledgeable in their work. They got us back on the road as quickly as possible for a 91 westfalia vanagon.

Unbeatable service. We are on a weekend road trip from Nelson to Penticton and found our tire became flat due to a nail. We made it into In Gear on a Sunday with no guarantee that they could take us in as they said they were already booked for the day. But they agreed to take a look at it. In the end they patched up our tire in one hour and we were back on the road again. Incredibly thankful to Todd and the team who didn’t have to squeeze us in so last minute. Thank you for saving our tire, weekend and vacation!

We had a minor crash in Nelson on our way to Vancouver and we were in need of new winter tires. It was Sunday and all shops in Nelson were closed. I called In Gear and asked for suggestions. This was our first time being in a crash and we needed our car to be towed to Castlegar but the weather was so bad that no one was able to tow us. Todd was very calm and genuine with his intention to help us. He advised us to buy tires from Canadian tire and he would put them on our car. We finally got towed to his place the next day and his approach to us was just assuring. He gave us a car which we took to CT, bought the tires he suggested, and in around 20 minutes we were set to go! The best thing about Todd was that he knew we were in trouble and we were in a desperate situation but he ONLY HELPED US. I have dealt with other mechanics before who would grab any opportunity to make business out of customer's inconvenience. But Todd was genuinely helpful, clear, and reasonable. He even got the car checked to make sure it's driveable, advised what to expect on the way. And all the help for less than $70.

Next time I go towards Nelson or further, I will definitely stop by In Gear for a quick coffee and thank you to Todd and his team. It really feels like we have a point of contact in Castlegar at In-gear.

We were driving through Castlegar on our way to Van Island when we had car troubles. The belt snapped and we thought for sure we were going to be staying the night. Well, Mike was willing to help us right away and we were in and out in less than an hour. Shocked and grateful to say the least. They were super kind and pet friendly as well (we had 2 cats and a dog travelling with us) so it meant a lot that they were so willing to help us out in such short notice. Amazing business and even better service!:)

Excellent customer service! I called on Monday with an issue changing over summer tires to winters, In Gear was able to get me in on Wed, the issue was resolved in less than an hour and was very reasonably priced! I will definitely be back for other vehicle needs! Thanks again ️

We were on our way home from Vancouver Island to Alberta and when leaving Princeton we noticed a noise coming from the tire area of the truck. By the time got to Castlegar the noise was very loud. We located In Gear on line and determined it was open all weekend. It was around closing time on a Saturday and we spoke to a gentlemen who said they were very booked for Sunday but to call in the morning and speak to the manager. We called and were told to bring our vehicle in and they would try to squeeze it in throughout the day to do a diagnostic, telling us that even if they could diagnosis and fix, parts might not be available. We brought the vehicle in, it was diagnosed as a faulty wheel bearing, parts were available and the vehicle was ready to go by 4 pm. We were ecstatic to have this work done as it was now two nights in Castlegar and we were anxious to get home. Both the manager and other gentleman we spoke to were so helpful, we cannot say enough good things about the amazing service!

Wow! In Gear provided excellent, prompt, honest and well-priced service! We had break concerns on our road trip that took us through the area. They were open on Sunday! They got us in right away and checked our vehicle thoroughly. When they realized there was no longer a problem (just over heating), they explained everything and didn’t even charge us for their time.

Just wanted to say a big thank you again to Todd and the guy who fixed my car up after I blew out a tire near Creston. I was on day 2 of a 10 day road trip across BC with my kids. In Gear was the ONLY shop open on a Sunday. Todd called CT himself to make sure they had my tire size in stock and then advised me how to safely get my car to them. They had me rolling again in no time. I own my entire trip to these guys! Huge thank you from Alberta!

They were really busy when I was there so I left and found a different place to get a tire changed on a Saturday. This is the only place other than Canada Tire you can get Tire work done

My boyfriend and I unfortunately had to use their parking lot as a camp site this Summer as my camper van broke down out front.
Felt very welcome and they gave us great service. They were able to squeeze us in and fix my brake lines and replace my battery.
The owner and staff are knowledgeable and very friendly.
Pricing was on point as well.

Put in our truck to get the doors fixed and wheel bearings replaced. They didnt finish the doors and didn't even bother with the bearings.

These guys we’re great. Really helped us in an hour of need. We had broken down in Nelson after some break work done at another garage. In gear squeezed us in and diagnose the issue on a busy Saturday. Thankfully turned out to be a quick fix which they didn’t even charge us for. Super friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!

Completed an OOP inspection on my truck. They were very helpful the whole time, honest and gave great advice on how to correctly fix what failed. I've gone through this process in other provinces, and my experience with those shops contrasted this one greatly.

I was driving my car out to Kelowna from Eastern Ontario, I had no issues with my car until a complication came forth with my front tire outside of Castlegar. I had just made it out of Castlegar by about 5km when I made the decision to turn around and head back into town. I gave them a call before arriving and they were quick to help me out! The told me they would take a look at it and inform me the best course of action. I was there within minutes and they gave me some of the best service I have ever received from a mechanic!

We had an issue with the mud flap on our car and they took us in right away to help us out. They fixed it on the spot and were very helpful, friendly and professional. Great service!

I was distressed as I crossed over the Kootenay Pass headed west, the controls on my car were failing. I learned now that it was due to faulty ignition switch and control panel. I lost my all wheel drive, sluggish car, it started to rain and I had no wipers or controls on my steering wheel. I made it to Salmo, they could not help so I pressed on to Castlegar where Eric had told me that they could get my car in to read the diagnostics at least. Eric and Stacey were amazing at communicating to each other as well as myself. I had Brian look after my issue and he kept me informed with a confident manner and fixed the problem! They knocked off a half hour of labour, realized that I was in a jam and sent me on my way! Thanks so much to the whole crew I am very impressed and highly recommend In Gear! Natascha

In Gear always gives great service. We needed our grandmothers car looked at, they got us in same day, explained all of our options and made clear pragmatic recommendations. I always appreciate the kindness and honesty that we experience when we do business with them.

So thankful for this shop! I broke down on the summit and all shops were booked up! I was worried I wasn’t going to get any help. I called around and was finally talking to a wonderful gentlemen Chris. They talked me through the trouble shooting process and helped me learn more about what was going on. I have only ever received service like this at my hometown repair shop that has taken me a couple years to build that relationship. I am so thankful to find such a forward auto shop and honesty.

So grateful we stumbled upon In Gear Mechanical. We had a breakdown on the weekend and needed to get our older GMC van back in shape quickly to complete our music tour. Eric at In Gear totally exceeded our expectations. Not only did he fix our fuel pump, he did it it quickly, creatively, and affordably. I am so used to being told that it's challenging and impossible to find parts for our '82 that I was preparing to be stuck in Castlegar for a week. Eric got us up and running so fast I almost wished we could stay longer to enjoy the company of this charming mechanic! I don't know what we would have done without Eric and In Gear. Castlegar is so lucky to have a shop like this.

We couldn't be happier with our experience at In Gear! Our vehicle went from almost un-driveable to great running condition after one visit. Dave, Angela and Kevin were great communicators and we always felt confident in their suggestions and well taken care of.

As a woman I've at times felt taken advantage of or talked down to at other mechanics, but not here.

In-Gear will be our regular spot for maintenance for as long as we reside in BC. Thank you to everyone for your help in getting our vehicle back on the road!
