Lol. This is not a bookstore. This is Bed Bath and Beyond combined with Staples, combined with some other random bric-a-brac. It used to be a mediocre bookstore for people who read casually. Now it's a place to buy overpriced knick knacks for people who want to look like they read. There are so few books in here it's appalling. There used to be a fiction section tucked away in the back where you could find such mainstream authors as Haruki Murakami. Now that section is mostly blocked off with these weird dividers and empty shelves. This is a mockery of a bookstore. Despite the tragic pointlessness of its existence in the present day, it's busier than ever, poppin' off with people looking to buy water bottles and pillows. Go to any independent local bookstore. Go here if you want the most mediocre local bookstore to look like Shangri-la the next time you visit it.
Great place to go for new books eg. Self help, cookbooks, games, and art supplies.staff are really good they are well informed and give a overall good experience to the customers the atmoshere is calming and the have a starbucks attached as well
Purchased a book I could not find anywhere else (locally). I was adamant to get it that day. Indigo had it in stock and put it on hold for me when I called to check if they had it in stock. Great customer service.
Huge bookstore with lots of nice gifts too. Some Hanukkah gifts which makes a nice change. Oh yeah and a lot of books too. They usually have a good section of books on special.
Always seem to have stock of anything I'm looking for. Surprisingly good home department as well. Starbucks in store is also great. If your a reader, what a great place to be. Buy a book. Buy a coffee. Pretend your in Central Perk.
They put a large and expensive book I bought as a gift in a paper bag along with a bunch of other books I bought at the same time. I would have assumed their bags would be strong enough to carry books, but it ripped open in the middle of an intersection, ruining the books I’d just bought. Too bad, they said.
Amazing customer service. I was interested in a memory book I saw online but the description did not provide the number of pages. I called the Granville store and Georgina located the item in store and provided me with the information I needed as well as features of the book that were not apparent from the photos on the website. She went above and beyond!
For more than a decade I've been a loyal Indigo shopper, preferring to buy Canadian over Amazon. However, two recent experiences at the South Granville location have been extremely unpleasant and today's topped it off. I bought an item online and was notified by email that it was ready to be collected. When I went to the cash desk (long line, only two cashiers) I showed my email and was told, quite rudely, that I should not be in the cash line but waiting over by a pillar near the front door. She asked me why I had not read the sign. What sign? I went to the famous pillar as instructed and waited for an associate to arrive. Without a smile or greeting this associate told me - very rudely - not to move until she came back. I was so surprised to be spoken to like this. I told her I would be right there, browsing the Heather's Pick table which was ONE meter away. She folded her arms and took a stance like an angry correction officer and said "I'm not getting your order if you won't stay in the place where you're supposed to stay. Do you expect me to go looking for you with your order in my hand? Where would I put the package if I can't find you? " Really? We're talking about one meter away, and you're speaking to me like I'm a disobedient child. I wanted my order so I shut up and stayed put. When she eventually returned I told her I was disappointed in the strange pick-up rules and the way she spoke to me. I did not feel welcome to even be there, forget shopping some more. Her comment to me was "My manager is Holly, she's standing right over there, she loves complaints, so just go over and tell her your problem. See what I care. " And walked away. I just signed up for Amazon Prime.
Today I received amazing customer service from Vivi. Thank you so much for your assistance, I really appreciate it!
She took the time to help me pick out a beautiful gift for my in-laws. I was very stuck for days about what I should get them. Vivi took the time to help me pick out items around the store. I now have a handful of beautiful items that I feel confident gifting to them. Thank you again!
I went to buy a book for my daughter and the online price was cheaper than the store. I received amazing service as they honored the online price. They also have American dolls and will be buying one soon for my daughter's birthday.
Indigo is a great place to buy books. I can even order books online from them. For example I was successful in ordering a Yiddish-English dictionary from the YIVO Institute. I also bought a science fiction book about space travel and meeting aliens from outer space.
Today we went in to look for a gift for my partner‘s sister’s birthday. The security man at the front door asked if we made an online order. We said no that we were browsing for a gift. He then seemed to get frustrated and asked us if we had money, and said that we needed to buy something if we were browsing. When we said we had money he laughed at us. We just awkwardly laughed and walked in, assuming he was having a bad day. But then when the next person in line said that they were also browsing he was very polite and told them to take their time. I’m not sure why he was only passive aggressive towards us, but it obviously had something to do with how we looked seeing as we were polite to him. We are an interracial, non gender conforming couple with brightly coloured hair so we are used to being judged. I just can’t believe that he straight up laughed at us and even yelled “good for you” as we walked out with the book we bought. We will try coming back again but if we see him working the front we will have to go somewhere else as he made us very uncomfortable.
When entering the store we were told that we could not have a mask with a valve. We told them and showed them that the valves of our masks were deactivated (which was also shown on the front of the mask as well). They proceeded to have us wait for 10 minutes inside the store until a manager could verify whether they would let us shop. Once the manager came we explained again and he stated that everyone must have medical masks for consistency. This would be fine, except for the fact that the manager was wearing the thinnest cloth mask that I have ever seen in my life. He stated that he was allowed to have this type of mask with no further reasoning. We wanted to wear the mask we have as we are constantly around elderly people and our masks are fitted to our face and have a filter between the cloth. If you have a medical issue and cannot wear a mask or feel comfortable with your own mask I do not recommend shopping at this store.
We came to enjoy books and look at baby items as we are expecting and encountered the manager “Bart” who obviously completely lost sight of where he’s working and that we aren’t on the battlefield during WW2. My wife is wearing a face shield as it’s extremely difficult for her to be pregnant and winded from walking at the same time as wearing a “medical mask”. Bart sees this as a direct attack to his life and future of this country and proceeds to use the loudest possible voice to insist she wear a medical mask. Not once but four times in one breath. Now, we are understanding of the times we live in but there are definitely way more tactful ways of asking another person in a book store to wear a different type of mask. Mind you we had by then passed 20 other associates who said absolutely nothing about the face shield. After being berated in front of the entire store we decided it’s best not to buy from here as we don’t enjoy hostlity
Large selection but messy and unorganized. Asked for helped from 2 staff members. One helped me but the other said "I don't know much about this genre of books" and without helping at all they said "good luck"? Maybe put someone with knowledge of "that" genre in "that" section of the store️
Indigo will always be my favorite bookstore, although I love supporting the local joints too. This location is so big and I always walk out with many more books than I planned on. Also great if you order online and pick up in store.
Can an Indigo be something than wonderful? The variety of books are amazing, sales are always available, and beautiful kitchenware and mugs are eye catching!
Although there was a long lineup in front of the store in order to comply with Covid regulations, it moved relatively fast. Staff was friendly, and helpful. Highly recommended.
One of the last great bookstores left in Vancouver. Yes, it is a corporate store and not the nieghbourhood Mom and Pop, but those are getting harder to find. Great selection, helpful staff and an attractive store. Great place to find your next read.
Really nice, high end bookstore. All the environment and the items available (besides books) are catering to a relax and minimalistic style. Beautiful decorations during holiday season and good deals sometimes. The store is right on the side of a Starbucks, which makes it even better since the smell of good coffee fills the place. Huge selection of books, overall, indigo knows how to attract its audience. I am more into little moms-and-pops shops, but I still enjoy indigo a lot when I'm there.
I bought my friend a invisable ink pen set for her birthday. My friend was eager to use it, so she opened it right away. Turns out that one of the pens ink was all out, and the other just broke when she tried to uncap it. Also the light wasn't working. I do not recommend the stationary from this place.
Love indigo, always like to stop for looking around. But recently I found online ordering from Indigo is way cheaper than store. So I actually do online shopping more often. Once I need to buy a gift book< the old man and the sea> from store, the checking system showed it was in stock. But after I searched for 35 minutes. I found it so waste of time. Then I just drove home, ordered online!
Travelled across town to purchase a collector's edition novel at this location and was disappointed to see that the book had some damage on the cover.
Usually when there is damage to a book the staff will permit a 10% discount without any pushback. Unfortunately, in this case they chose not to grant the discount due to it being in "resellable condition". The book is sold at $54 per copy and I felt that it wasn't worth it to pay full price for a damaged product.
It was a very unfortunate experience all-around and I don't think it would have been been difficult for them to apply the discount.
I won't be shopping at this location anymore as I felt the customer service was lacking and it was a lot of time wasted for me
Indigo's reatively new location is a snappy, clean, and very spacious store. It's very pleasant to visit, and had that modern, chic store ambiance, but, not surprisingly, lacks the warm, old-timey feel of a classic bookstore. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Both and neither. Depends on what you like. But they have a good staff and the usual great selection of Indigo stores, especially for a store smaller than the one two iterations ago.
Decent bookstore with a huge collection of popular books in current print. Indigo also has a variety of gift ideas that aren't books, but they tend to be on the kitschy side. Staff are helpful and approachable. They also have several computers that you can use to locate any book you are looking for.
Nice appearance and decent selection; however, while I realize books are going out of fashion, I would have liked to have seen some foreign fantasy, sci fi, etc. Russian writers are phenomenal.
