Love this park for my puppy! It's beautiful at sunset and the water is warm in the summer. I love walking barefeet during low tide and puppy loves it too. Kids see sea life and we get some wonderful photos

Lovely park in Richmon. It is one of the mouths of the Fraser River. It is an interesting park because it has two areas. A beach area with tables and services. The other area is a long breakwater that juts out into the sea. Both areas are good for walking and seeing nature. Many times when I have gone there is low tide and you can hardly see the sea.

One of my favorite park and beach. It's sometimes crowded but it's an amazing place to watch birds and enjoy walking among the driftwood

Amazing park. The views here are stunning, and I highly recommend walking down the jetties extending from here, as that is an amazing walk that offers unbelievable views.

Came here in October and was glad I Wore layers. It was fairly wind on a clear day. The walking kept us warm but the wind chilled our face and ears. It was busy and hard to find parking around 3pm. The walk us about 45 min from end to and and a great walk to do on an afternoon.

One of the best recreation area for a long walk. Would recommend this place for a cute date and a great view post for flights passing.
10 November 2021 20:37
The place is not particularly gorgeous comparing with other outdoor areas in Vancouver however is still a good place to walk with your family, to bring your dog.
08 November 2021 6:53
It's a beautiful quite place with amazing views. You can spend the nice quite evening and watch the sun slowly going down and enjoy the plane landings.

Great place to enjoy nature. The beach is beautiful, and the park as a whole is the #1 place for bird species in all of Metro Vancouver. The jetty is a bit grueling and requires a lot of effort to get to the end, but it is worth it. Will be an incredible shame when they close the inner ponds permanently, as this is a very significant part of many species migration routes, and indeed some species have only been seen there and never anywhere else in the area.

I have to say I have lived here all my life and I only just visited this local regional park (I'm quite embarrassed to make that confession). There is so much to see (great for aircraft watching being so close to YVR) and hope my next visit won't take another lifetime to enjoy.
04 October 2021 11:01
The setting is unique in that it shows a large tideline which is a transition between the beach and the distant views of the mountains and YVR (Vancouver International Airport). The grasslands and marsh ponds are unique with viewing areas. The south pond doesn't appear to be accessible to walk around. According to Regional Park authorities, this is a major stop-over for migratory birds. During my September visit very little wild life was visible. So if you are a photographer, plan ahead. Apparently, the birds come during the spring and fall. There are rudimentary public washrooms (no change areas for hikers or cyclists) and no other amenities for refreshments (eg.public telephones or water dispensers that I could see). The Iona Jetty, which covers the main waste water treatment pipe to the Strait of Georgia is patrolled by Park Rangers and has wind shelters at approximately 1/3 and 2/3 points on the 4 km walk and road ways. The End of the Iona Jetty has a terminus with a viewing platform overlooking the Strait of Georgia. Dogs on a lease are permitted on the service road that runs alongside the main walking/biking path way. It's important to ensure you are prepared for your own safety with food and water as it can be trying on a hot or cold day. The reason for classifying this as three star area is that the existing facilities and access roads are not the best for cyclists and hikers. There are no clearly posted approach signs or pull-off areas outside of the conservation area indicating the direction to the area if it's your first visit you may want to use a GPS (Not sure but, perhaps that is intended as too many visitor could be disruptive to the wildlife.) During my visit, the most prominent activity was all the large jet air-traffic coming into the Vancouver Airport.

The jetty walk has many different looks depending on the tide and season. Always picturesque with the mountains in the distance to the north and south. Aviation fans can enjoy the planes. Audubon fans can enjoy the birds. Dog owners can let their pups run off-leash on the lower jetty trail. Leashing up is required when exploring the adjacent areas. Parking is usually not a problem.

Has become popular in recent times. The distinctive feature being the long walk along the pipe that goes out into the Straight of Georgia.

Officially my favorite Beach park!
Love it has a parking lot, washroom and a place to wash up after playing at the beach.
Love the flowers, sand, trees and everything there.
Kids love it here too.

I am sorry to say that I have been selfish in not talking about one of my favourite walks for fear of it being overcrowded. But to share something beautiful makes it more beautiful. (Or something like that).
I am personally not so keen on the jetty walk but other people like it. What I really enjoy is the nature walk at the end of the road. My pictures reflect the clockwise direction. Bring your own snacks and water. It might be wise to keep your small dog on a leash. Last time we were there I took a picture of what I thought was dog poop but with all of the seeds in it that didn’t make any sense until later we saw a very well behaved coyote. Don’t freak out. They usually leave you alone if you leave them alone. Do NOT feed it, keep your small dog on a leash. Don’t run away and if you are jogging alone probably a good idea to carry a sturdy hiking pole. If you are there during a low tide you get to walk along the North Fraser. You can go far or not so far.
We very much enjoy this special place and hope you do as well. They are talking about upgrading the processing plant so I am not sure if that will affect our future access. Hopefully not!

Iona Beach Park is amazing, it is so nice to see the birds here, and just by walking all the way to experience sunset is mesmerizing. And it is not crowded. Just pure ocean, fresh breeze, and sun.
02 August 2021 17:28
The walk is okay. If live near by would be perfect for a simple walk. The view scenery can catch Sunset view. I still think Vancouver seawall walk or Stanley Park is my go to places if I want to view water view within the city.

Another of Richmonds Gems.awesome family area for picnic & spectacular views of Vancouver, North Shore mountains & body of water of Georgia Straight
23 July 2021 4:03
Not a very good time for my family and I. Was low tide and they close at high tide so the whole place was just mud: ^ (. Also couldn't catch a cab so we had to walk to the airport.
14 July 2021 23:57
Nice beach, enjoy the ride around airport to reach it. Nice long walk for almost an hour with water on both sides. I like it
05 July 2021 17:01
Very clean and natural. Loved walking here and on the pier. Even the views are amazing. You can see forest on the side and ocean on one side. LAVVV IT
05 July 2021 13:47
So special place, not so many people, we walked long way to the end, so many species, so many huge logs at the end of road, we explored new place, after long walked, feel tired, good exercise for our family, also feel enrichment.

Great for sunsets, Running the jetty, chilling on the beach or watching wildlife. Loads of birds and eagles around. Lots of cyclists make it down here as it's a nice flat run. Can sometimes see whales if you go out far enough although never seen them personally.
23 June 2021 8:04
Such an underrated and hidden gem of Richmond. Walking on the jetti or strolling on the beach are two of my favorite activities in the area.
25 May 2021 14:29
Beautiful and serene, however, since COVID by far too many people. 8 am today on a Sunday and I took the last parking stall.
16 May 2021 22:34
You can spend an hour or the entire day. Bring bird Binocs or SLR camera and snap some great photos. The pipeline is also great for a afternoon walk, plan for 2-3hours depending on your pace. You can also bike the pipeline if you should wish. Respect Social distance and you will be fine!
19 October 2020 14:41
Love visiting this place year round and seeing all the different birds that stop by. Bring your binoculars.
18 April 2020 18:28
Very cool place to go bird watching. Has unique species throughout the year that is seen nowhere else in Metro Vancouver.
10 April 2020 22:31
Amazing seawalk that goes 4km into the ocean! Stunning views of the west coast and YVR airport. The whole park is also an off-leash dog area. Keeping in mind there are only a few washrooms and no place to buy food or water.
31 March 2020 19:08
This place is a hidden gem. Shhhhhhh. Don't tell anyone. It's uncrowded, its got lots of parking and has some of the best sunset vistas in the Lower Mainland. Bring mosquito repellant.
25 March 2020 7:11
Perhaps it wasn't the best place to visit during winters even though it was sunny? I'm not sure. The Beach was small, unappealing, full of half broken logs everywhere to the point you have to go over them to even get to the beach area. Didn't like it at all.
Will visit in the summers to see if it's better
21 March 2020 15:00
Amazing views. Good place for a walk, cycling. Observation deck at the end and begining. Restrooms present at the begining.

Avoid going on a windy day.
08 March 2020 11:42
Love this spot for late night drives and plane watching. Not the greatest amenities and can be a little dirty sometimes. Overall a good experience, just go to the washroom before you come late at night.
04 March 2020 17:24
Had an amazing experience. Walked around the park and everything about it so beautiful.

So many beautiful birds that you don’t even know names of! So much to learn I’d say.
And the breeze you find there is great so fresh and aromatic.
03 March 2020 5:19
This area used to be rural and now after a few years we went there today and seeing the encroachment of industry a diverse part of the Fraser River Delta is being destroyed.
Yes there is a park from MacDonald Beach Rd to Iona though it needs to be preserved for all species of birds and animals and protection of habitat!
14 December 2019 16:03
Great park for walking, sightseeing, bird watching, or just relaxing on the beach. Very pretty spot in our wonderful city! Parking was easy here and it is never too crowded. I love this place!
09 December 2019 20:29
An excellent place for a walk and bird watching. The mountain and water scenery is so nice, wish I got to spend more time here. The walk to the end of the path is longer than expected, takes ~2hr return. It can get very windy.

Can be a bit tricky if you are getting a taxi here, but I managed to get Richmond Taxis to pick me up.
12 November 2019 14:58
If you go at the right time of year there is good blackberry picking. It’s a clean beautiful beach, lovely paths & good parking.
05 November 2019 8:26
What a majestic and incredible walk/experience! I am newER to Vancouver and hadn’t heard of Iona Beach and I was blown away! It is gated and has plenty of parking and then you notice a great big, wide and long pier-ish area to walk down. There are markers telling you how far you have to go to get to the very end and how far you have to get back (2 km etc). There are lower and higher platforms to walk along and the area is definitely dog friendly. Once you reach the end there is a larger platform with railings looking out at an absolutely breathtaking view of the ocean and mountains. Watching the sunset from the platform is one of the prettiest sunsets I have ever seen (the pictures do not do it justice). The gates close at 7pm so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to leave so you don’t get locked in. I thoroughly enjoy my experiences here and without a doubt will come back. I am always taken aback by the absolute beauty of Mother Nature and what a well maintain and beautiful park Iona Beach is.

Wonderful place for long, quiet walk. Bird watching, plane watching, people watching.
Can be super windy, but dress appropriately and you'll be fine. There's a wind shelter around 1.25km down the 4km spit. Expect it to take at least 1.5hrs to go down and back (it's 8km total), or, if you take small children, 2 hours to just get to the wind shelter!
03 October 2019 2:49
Amazing place for taking sunset engagement photos. But lots and lote of mosquitos and tiny flies, so minus 1 star. Bring lots of bug spray.
24 September 2019 6:40
Flat cycling route on Ferguson Road, with moderate truck traffic from UPS and Canada Post. Washroom, water fountain, recycling and trash at end of road.
18 August 2019 1:58
I love this place. I have visited many times and have had lots of types of adventures. The water is cool & clean, low tide is super fun here, and theres trails to explore all over. It's usually pretty quiet, sunny and singing with birds. Probably the most underrated beach in GVA
16 August 2019 16:28
It's such a peaceful and idyllic place with incredible landscape. You can go for a walk or even go running for an exercise day! It's perfect! Moreover the airport is so near so you will enjoy the land of a lot of airplanes while you are there!
