3.5 average spot. Wonderful busy atmosphere and a good menu but expect crowdedness and some sticky floors. As with any pub, good fried food options and beers. Nothing bad here but also nothing "special" either. A good gathering spot to go to for pub vibes.
Just happened to walk in here and we will definitely be back! We sat at the bar and the service was excellent, the food was great there was a band playing live Irish music and we ended up meeting a wonderful couple sitting beside us. Truly a great night out!
Nice spot for a drink and meal. Nice selection with lots of classic Irish dishes on the menu.the Shepard's pie was very hot, but excellent. Very busy and quite loud, especially if there is live music, but I did not mind. I really liked all of the historic photos that were on the walls all over the pub.
I sat outside on a beautiful sunny day in July. I've been here 3 times before and the food is consistent and excellent. I love their fish & chips and the cocktails do not disappoint. Whenever I come to Victoria, this restaurant is always on my itinerary.
Mid-afternoon stop, and just the ticket. Fun spot to hang for a while and recharge the batteries. By that, I mean enjoying a Guinness! Though we did not eat during this visit, very inviting looking food serving trays passed us by often, held aloft as they were hefted up from the cellar kitchen. Lost count of all the smartly uniformed staff working here - bartender (female) was very sharp and attentive but left us alone doing our thing. Huge selection of spirits and drafts. Will be back!
Live music was great! Ended too early. Also your bouncer doesnt understand how to wear a mask.has to go above his nose. No matter how big his biceps are
Update: he still has no idea how to wear his mask.
Well I've been to this place many times over the last ten yrs but tonight will be the last. First off the manager tells me that they serve cod instead of halibut as their fish and chips BC it's to expensive. I used to love coming here for fish and chips but no more. Speaking of expensive. $10 for a shot of Jack Daniels. I'm not asking for Johnny Walker Blue Label. My friend ordered a crown float, they came back and made it with a different beer other than Guiness BC they were out, and didn't tell her. Worst experience ever!
Ummm this is actually a sick pub! It's in the touristy area so you kind of expect it to be kitschy or something, but it was great. Killer staff, killer room - and what a Killer band last night!
Fantastic musicians and beautiful pub. Sound level was dangerously high. I checked with a meter app on my phone.anything above 80dB for an extended period can cause damage. Meter was hitting 90 at times.
My husband & I stopped in here a couple times on our recent visit to Victoria. All the staff are super friendly. Delicious food, great service. Very cozy and comfortable.
I always liked the pub so 5 stars but the queso gets zero stars. Tastes like velveeta with pickles and corn added. DO-NOT-ORDER-THE-QUE-SO. I like the white cheese queso you get at Mexican restaurants in Texas.
Looked like a good place but the hostess turned to speak to staff whilst in conversation with us. And she didn't tell us that we would have five minutes to place our dinner order because the kitchen was having maintenance at 8 pm on a Thursday. We left and had a good meal and courteous staff at the Bard.
We ordered a Ruben and times salad. The Ruben was very small especially for the price! The times salad is like the dressing is a strawberry yogurt! And very greedy with candied nuts. Alcohol more expensive than others places around. 1st time and last time. Sorry
We spent 4 days in Victoria, and visited a whole lot of pubs, but this is the place where we spent the most time, partly because of the friends we made at the bar, but everything else, the decent food, beer selection, sports on the TV, good specials and excellent service.
Most attentive efficient bartsnder ever. Great selection of beers on tap. Wonderful environment. And tonight the live music was outstanding. I came for 1 drink and stayed for way more.
Only been here once since in the 18 months ive been here and can say that I enjoyed my experience with yall; decent food, decent price, really good customer service!
Delicious virgin bellini & wonderful outdoor seating area.lots of foot traffic passing by, but i did not mind.food was very yummy too all from the happy hour menu!
Classic Irish pub, the place was not really busy when a visited and the service is kind of slow. It take time to get our beers and it took a long time to get the bill, I was tempted to just leave cause it took a long time.
Prices are on the a little high, the beer is good.
I did no try the food, but my next time in Victoria I would try another place.
The location is great and they have a lot of outdoor seating.
Friendly staff, great environment, wonderful design for the building and extremely quick service.
I went in with the expectation of a really good poutine (based on other reviews) but was somewhat disappointed by the lack of savoury taste in the gravy. Food was good, but not my favourite poutine.
Good ambiance, tasty food and nice live music in the evenings. The drinks were good. I especially liked the veggie burger - special mention because the patty is a house-made vegetable patty, NOT beyond meat, which I really appreciated. The brownie was delicious and soft. If I had one gripe, it would be that the tables are quite sticky, but I suppose one can expect that in a pub. All in all, would recommend.
It was a fantastic night here with live music, which is energetic and lots of stories behind them. The food was good we ordered fish & chips and two kinds of beers.
The cocktails were strong and delicious, didn't try any food however. The inside of the pub is absolutely stunning, and the live music made our visit unforgettable. Service was decently quick, and our waitress was super friendly and outgoing!
Great food and vibe! We sat on the patio. I had the mac and cheese which was delectable. The drink menu is great. I tried the mimosa flight that was just perfect! Totally recommend visiting.
What you can expect from an Irish pub. Good selection of drinks and good food. Bartenders were super friendly. Live music was also a plus to the very well decorated place.
Excellent choice of frosty beverages and great pub menu. The Irish stew was delicious! The street side patio offers a nice bit of sun or shade and good atmosphere.
The food tasted great, and the service was pretty good, but the portions really didn't match the prices. Especially the Shepherds Pie. And apparently coleslaw is hard to come by, judging from the tiny spoonful that came with the fish and chips.
Consistently good food, great service from Lynne, especially considering EVERYONE is short staffed these days. I really like the location- it's great for people watching.
Got there too late for food but the ambience, the architecture of the building, the life band made for an amazing night. And the Guinness was served just perfectly too!:)
Never left a one star before. No drinks, just 2 Ceasar salad and 2 mac and cheese = $70. Pasta had no flavor, and the salads that we asked for vegetarian were made with bacon (which looked pre-frozen and wet). Small portions, bland food, and huge prices. Not worth it.
It is my wife's birthday today so we stopped here for lunch. We had a nice table outside away from Government St. We had the Tyger cauliflower for a starter and they were crunchy and spicy. The cauliflower was not too cooked. I had the Mac and Cheese which came out piping hot and super creamy. Very tasty. My wife had the veggie burger and it was huge. She had to cut it so she could eat it. I really enjoyed her fries, nice and crunchy. We were under a red umbrella so my pictures are tinted as such. Very enjoyable lunch date with my love.
One of the few places in town where you get can get a perfectly poured pint of Guinness. Has been a favorite of mine since moving to Victoria 4 years ago.
Just a shout out to our fav bar in Victoria - go there on a regular basis. Great food and service, lots of drink specials, live music is always a blast and just a warm vibe. Can get very busy at times especially on live music nights, but it's expected given that it's just a fun place (and not only for tourists). Some of the food items are a bit on the high side and no appy hour specials, but still tasty and a lot of great sharing items (and love their breakfasts).
Note: Costco sometimes has a gift card special good for several bars in Victoria, including Irish Times. Great value.
I just love these Irish/English style huge bar with so many corners and ppl from all ages coming to drink. And this one have a good selection of draft beer. Which is the only thing this kind of bar is supposed to have.
Good music, excellent decorum, staff is always friendly and fast. I would only request more live Irish music in the evenings, there is often good live music here, but there could be more in the later hours. Slantia
Great place in a historic building! The house shots were all good. They had a fantastic selection of local beer. The wait staff are excellent, and the food we got was good. Just in for drinks and appetizers. Fries are perfect, and the scotch egg was great!
This place has become too popular for its own good. Although the live music on weekends and Friday is nice, there is no sort of acoustic control and as such it is VERY loud and difficult to have a conversation in. The drinks are also some of the most expensive in town. I would advise you to go to Argyll Attic instead if you want an atmosphere you can actually socialize in.
A very close reproduction of an Irish pubs in a really central position. Complete and various menu, friendly fast and accurate but fast service. Recommended for anyone.
This place is amazing! We stopped in for drinks and some food, as we had been walking around Victoria all day. The atmosphere was amazing, very rich decor, and lovely wait staff. The food was great. We ordered the yam fries, and shepherds pie. As far as drinks are concerned, we got a flight of Scotches, black and tans, and an Irish Sour. Live music topped off the experience. A definite must for your trip to Victoria.
Expensive! However it's got a fun atmosphere and a large selection of beer on tap. It gets really busy on Friday and Saturday nights which tends to affect the service. There are live bands on the weekend which are usually pretty good. Fun place to check out for interesting beers.
Have the fish and chips! Great place to eat or just gather for drinks! The live band was great! If you're eating outside, beware of birds! We got pooped on! But the staff was great and replaced our food and drinks without even blinking!
Excellent pub. Lively friendly atmosphere with a good food and drinks menu and quick and efficient service also all the staff were first class and really welcoming and appeared to work as a team. Would highly recommend a visit if your in the area.
Had an excellent corn beef hash sandwich although had to wait a bit for it. Drinks were a bit more expensive than standard, but good. Server was very nice and visited frequently, if not too often. Fantastic decoration and furniture.
We stopped by on a warm afternoon, we sat on the patio to watch the the world go by (great place by the way) our waitress recommended the the Prosecco sangria, Wow was she right.it came in a pitcher full of fresh fruit and berries and the taste was perfect, really hit the spot (Highly Recommend). For lunch we ordered the Halibut fish and chips, great portions and the Halibut was so fresh. For an Irish pub in Canada Great place.highly recommend.
Staff was friendly and professional, service was timely and food was terrific. The shepherd's pie was amazing and I recommend the brownie for dessert. The live music was great. Very enjoyable.
Busy pub with long waits during tourist season. Location and building are great and beer selection was decent but menu was uninspired and nachos were sub par. Vibe was more like a restaurant rather than a pub.
