Dr. Hunt is a caring, patient and knowledgeable veterinarian. Our family trusts in his care and we’re grateful that our senior kitties with complex needs have such an excellent doctor looking out for them. Front desk staff are friendly, attentive and take extra time to check in and ensure everything is taken care of. We’ve had a great experience at James Bay Vet over the last year and a half and that’s after trying 3 other clinics in the area that were not able to provide timely, caring and attentive care. A huge thank you to the whole team and we look forward to many years of excellent care.

I really appreciate every single person at James Bay Veterinary Clinic. Everyone is so kind, and very good at what they do. In the past I have had a hard time finding a vet that will actually have appointments available when we need them and I am thankful that James Bay Vet Clinic tries their best to get us in as quickly as possible each time. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Rachel and the whole team there. Highly recommend.

I had to bring my dog in for an emergency treatment after he was injured in Beacon Hill Park. I was not a patient at this clinic, and in spite of this they welcomed me in quickly and treated me and my canine companion with the utmost care and professionalism. I would especially like to thank Dr. Hunt, Miriam, and Kayt for brining such repose to what was an understanbly stressful situation for us.
It looks like Dex and I have found our new Vet!

I absolutely love the James Bay Vet Clinic The staff are all so thoughtful, caring and welcoming. Kayt goes above and beyond for Stella, always finding a way to squeeze her in at the last minute. When she had her spay surgery the techs took care of her for an additional day and treated her to lots of cuddles. I was told she spent most of the day in someone’s arms. You can feel how much the staff care about the animals they are treating. I am incredibly grateful and fortunate to have found this Team and Clinic I would rate above 5 stars if I could

Facility is nice and roomy. The vet was very helpful and knowlegable and lovely with Louie. The vet techs were friendly and handled Louie well. Of course the front staff was great too. Loiue is a large cat and can have a temper at times - however he was quite docile with the way everyone handled him there. A relief to me, really!

I had an emergency involving my 10 year old cat. My regular vet could not see us that day as they were booked up. I called around and James Bay Vet was able to see my cat immediately. I was so impressed that I could bring my sick cat in right away. The veterinarian was very thorough and gentle with my cat. I was given treatment for him and the next day the clinic called to see how my cat was doing. Very impressive! I was so happy with their service that I have now changed my vet needs to them. My new puppy Levi loved his first visit to James Bay Vet last week. He went for his vaccines. He was pampered, fawned over, and even though he was poked with a needle he didn't want to leave.

Wonderful veterinarian clinic. Everyone is very personable and friendly. We have been with them for 3 years now and they have always been consistent, compassionate and reliable.

I have already recommended several of my friends and colleagues to the JBV clinic. I am a first time dog owner and from the first visit I had with my puppy, I have been extremely happy. Kate, the lady at the front desk is an absolute pleasure to talk to and she is also very knowledgeable and understanding. After my first discussion with Kate, I knew I wanted to have Beau continue to come to this clinic. She went out of her way to make me feel comfortable with vaccine decisions and helped me relay information to the vet. She is truly a gem. The vets were also lovely and caring. Everyone at this clinic understood that my dog’s well being comes first but also understood that I have to be very cost conscious. Thank you all for an amazing experience thus far.

I’m really not impressed with the communication and pricing with James Bay Vet.

I was quoted $35 for a follow up booster vaccine and ended up being charged for an examination fee on top of that for a total of $110. I was not quoted for the second examination fee up front and I’ve never been charged for a second examination fee before at other vets when doing the second round of boosters.

I also requested a quote for spay - which came in at about double what I was expecting and significantly higher than others in the greater Victoria area.

It is clear to me that they care about the animals - this rating doesn’t reflect the level of care, but rather, reflects the poor communication and their exorbitant fees.

The vets at James Bay Vet are caring and professional. One of our cats died recently and we believe that the care she received in her final year improved her quality of life and extended the time she had.

Update: April 2023

My old gentleman cat needed blood work and, as usual, James Bay Vets, did the necessary deed almost immediately and we were on our way home.

Next month - annual physical.

We have been a client at the James Bay Veterinary Clinic for many years with our dogs.
We moved out to Sidney eighteen months ago and after receiving unsatisfactory service from a local vet, decided it was worth the drive back to the James Bay clinic for future consultations.
The staff are excellent to deal with, Dr Jenni Bartlett has been outstanding with our new dog Ora and Kayt on reception always welcomes you in a very friendly and pleasant manner when you walk through the door.

Always a pleasure to visit the staff at James Bay Veterinary Clinic. They are friendly, courteous and go out of their way to help.

Visiting James Bay Veterinary Clinic was a quick and easy. The staff are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We are used to having the same vet from 1992 through 2022 and when a move necessitated a new vet, we found a good one at James Bay Vet Clinic.

Gave no notice prescription is required for renal food, this is not a requirement at all vets. Buy your food at Oakland's they appreciate your business.

Really great experience with this clinic! They squeezed us in short notice. Staff was fantastic. They let us stay with our very anxious cat in private room while we waited. The vet was thorough, gentle, upfront about cost, and gave us detailed instructions on treatment. Highly recommend

Such an AMAZING team. From the receptionists, to the vet techs, to the vets, everyone along the way was so helpful and kind. The vet was very thorough with my pup and explain what was going on and what to look out for. My rescue dog can get very spicy but the vet was so kind and patient with him, there wasn't even any growling at all. Amazing team, can't recommend these amazing busy bees enough!

I was having so many issues with my 10 year old cat and my previous vet was just nickel and dime-ing me over unnecessary test after unnecessary test. 1 visit with James Bay Vet was all it took to diagnose the problem and offer me multiple solutions that I could choose that would work for my situation. 1 month later and years of physical pain, behavioural issues, and many unwanted pounds are GONE. I am so grateful I found them. I never thought my cat would have her issues corrected. It has made both mine and my cat's quality of life that much better.

All the staff have given our beloved dogs the best care, always willing to spend the time discussing treatment options for them. I would highly recommend this clinic.

I highly recommend James Bay Vet as since moving to Victoria with a 14.5 year old Westie (now 16.5) the service and caring has been incredible. As a senior Fergie has needed attention for various health issues and my visits have been many. I give Dr Kevin Hunt and Emily my outmost gratitude for the way they address our visits. Kayt at reception is knowledgeable, helpful and understanding.
Fergie who is not a fan of Vet visits trots off with Emily quite unconcerned and Dr Hunt really takes the time to discuss the issues at hand.
I rate them 10/10.

This clinic was able to squeeze me in for a last second appointment right before I left town for a trip. The veterinarian was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, reassuring, and efficient. I have been going to The Pacific Cat Clinic up until now, but I am highly considering switching places in the future. 10/10 recommend it.

This corporation advertises affordable end of life care, when in all reality their markup is extreme and unnecessary. This particular vet deals with Glory Bound Crematorium, in Sooke. Glory Bound offers private cremation based on weight. For my 30 lb dog I was quoted $150.00 which includes an urn, pick up of the deceased animal, and the return of the remains. James Bay Vet charges separate fees for euthanasia and then offers cremation. For the euthanasia portion I was quoted $170.00 and then offered either private or communal cremation. For the private cremation at Glory Bound, with the same pick up and drop off service, as well as the urn, I was quoted anywhere from $280.00 to $360.00 depending.

These individuals advertise themselves as being understanding and sympathetic to the extreme costs that come with euthanizing an animal, but they are just like any other corporation. There is absolutely no reason why there is such an extreme mark up to the cremation portion. It would be more ethical for them to raise the cost of euthanizing instead of gouging peoples wallets in a portion of the service that they have nothing to do with.

For anyone needing to euthanize a pet, please know that Glory Bound will retrieve your animal from either a vet or a home after its passed, and they do the same private cremation for nearly HALF the price advertised at James Bay Vet.

Janet, from Epiphany End of Life Care will come to your home and euthanize your pet for around $50 more than the vet quotes. This way you do not need to take your animal out of the house into the waiting room of an unsympathetic vet clinic.

Please, look deeper than the smoke and mirrors vets use to distract you while you are emotionally vulnerable.

Do better, James Bay Veterinary Clinic!

The Vet was great. My puppy had a good exam and terms I didn't understand were explained for me to get it.

The visit was on time and they took the time to review my pug's previous clinic records.

I think I made the right choice.

Professional, knowledgeable and kind staff. Pricing on par with industry. Moved here from another vet a couple years ago and much happier with this one. Only thing is it’s hard to get in, was recently offered 2.5 weeks out for an appointment. Didn’t minus a star for this as I was still given brief opinion over email, wasn’t anything urgent.

Friendly and very good with my cat and was good as far as explaining in plain English what was going on with my cat.

I loved this vet clinic and it will be one of the things I'll miss after moving from Victoria. The staff showed such care and compassion. Great service all round but it was a real treat to interact with Kate. Thanks for everything!

We're SO FORTUNATE to have such a wonderful vet clinic in James Bay! My cat is older, and everyone from the wonderful receptionists (who I think actually run the place and do it amazing well) to every vet that she's seen has been friendly and professional.

RAVE! I can't express how wonderful the James Bay Vet Clinic staff are. I'm a very anxious / helicopter cat parent and have experienced several different vets in search of the perfect place for our 2 kittens. The staff are beyond helpful and lovely, giving thorough explanations of every procedure, option and recommendation.

They are also the first folks I call when I have a question about my pets' care and Kate is usually the one who answers my (many) calls with such helpful and kind advice. She's incredibly knowledgeable and patient with me.

The physical clinic is beautifully maintained, very clean and COVID-safe. I recently took my male kitten to get shots and a check up. Dr. Kevin Hunt oversaw his physical check up and vaccines. Following the check up, Dr. Hunt gave me a thorough explanation of where my kitten was at in his development, health, teeth and bone development. (None of the other 3 vets I've visited have done this!) He offered a care plan for next vaccines and neutering, with a recommended timeline based on what he saw during the check up.

I felt extremely well taken care of as a first-time crazy cat mom, but also felt better informed about my pet's health options.

While I was waiting I also overheard Dr. Jeff Dand explain to a dog mom all the different options for a surgical procedure and was so impressed with the thoroughness of the explanation and once again, the health options clearly laid out. I've found that a lot of vet clinics make assumptions that you as a pet owner have the same knowledge about health options / procedures, when in my experience that's not the case.

We've had a few little hiccups / unexpected issues with our kittens and it has been such a pleasure having the JBV clinic as a resource for a very anxious pet mom.:) I really can't recommend them enough and can say in comparison with other service providers, they are truly top notch.

Best vet clinic I've been to in a long time. Eveyone there was very transparent and open about options for treatment and what procedures were necessary. It was refreshing compared with other clinics.
