It was a tough hike but when you see people on the way motivating you, it really helps! Make sure to bring enough water though…. Very worth the 3-4ish hour hike. The views were like no other
The visit to these lakes made my entire trip worth it! My first visit to Canada and one of my dreams was to be able to see one of its turquoise lakes, even though I went during rainy times (mid-October), it rained a little, but in the same way you could enjoy the walk very well, they are dreamlike landscapes, I fell in love.
I recommend dressing in layers, bringing enough water, snacks, hiking gear, especially good mountain shoes and a waterproof jacket.
Do not feed the animals (birds, squirrels, etc.), take their garbage. Go at your own pace, it is not difficult but I think it does require having some physical condition and having done some similar hiking routes before. I took a tour from Vancouver, but it doesn't include a guide, it was practically just transportation, and they wait for you when you return, and they give you your entrance pass, but I never saw them ask for it at the entrance, in fact there was no one when you entered.
The hike is definitely worth it. It took my husband and I almost 3 hours to upper lake. There are some steep incline steps so be ready for that. We are not professional hikers, or every day outdoor walking folks and we were able to hike it. I would recommend to stretch before hiking, and just be mentally prepare to not giving up even if you’re tired. Make sure you wear the appropriate shoes for hiking and if you’re able to get yourself trekking pole it that would be helpful.
Once I was invited to a “party. ” It was at a mansion with three swimming pools and a gorgeous backyard. Joffre is a good host and took good care of us during our stay. I would recommend again 5 stars ️️️️️ out of 5. Thank you so much Joffre.
The place is impressively beautiful, I recommend that if you plan to arrive you make a reservation online, since the parking spaces are few for the number of people who want to visit, there are three main lakes, I went in June and the climb is a bit heavy Because it is somewhat slippery, but the views are out of this world, the water is cold but there were people in the lake, there is no signal so you will disconnect quite a bit and enter nature.
Is this the most magical hike in BC? ! This is an extremely popular hike and you need to reserve free passes in order to get access to the trail. On weekends, passes are sold out within a minute of their release so you need to be ready at 7 am sharp to get your passes. The hike is easy/moderate. The viral log is at the second lake which probably has the best view. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this place if you’re around. It’s about 2.5 hours drive from Vancouver but it’s worth it.
Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is known for its incredible hiking opportunities, pristine lakes, and photo-worthy landscapes. It's a popular destination for day hikes and camping, but because of its popularity, it can get quite crowded during the summer months. Visitors are encouraged to practice Leave No Trace principles and respect the natural environment to preserve this beautiful area for future generations.
August 25, it was closed without notice. Drove all the way up from Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and not a sign indicating the closure. Stupidity at its finest
Superbe balade!
Even though it snowed a day before, the hike was enjoyable. One has to be a bit more cautious of frozen ice on steps. But view at the top is worth all effort
Currently, expect winter conditions. Many hiking in wore inappropriate footwear (runners) and were already slipping and sliding on the trail. The views were stunning but please wear hiking boots with micro spikes/cleats just to be safe. Hiking poles could be useful too.
Absolutely stunning views on a popular trail. We're not the most fit and it took us about 2 hours to reach the upper lake. Definitely worth the workout!
A total of 7 km hike across the three Joffre lakes are some of the most stunning sceneries you will ever see. Each lake gets more beautiful and turquoise from the other.
This was one of the best hikes ever. The scenery was stunning. The only negative was the crowds. We went to all three lakes. The trail was well marked and maintained.
Packed with people but obviously worth the trip nonetheless, with stunning views. Be sure to wear proper hiking gear (i.e. Boots/shoes) - it's essentially a 4km rocky uphill hike and I saw a lot of people struggling in adidas slides and all-white fashion Nike's in the mud.
This place is so breathtaking… we’ve been to Banff, Yoho and Jasper but Joffre is still for me one of the prettiest glacier fed lakes in Canada. The hike is not as bad as I was told by many people… the steps suck but just take your time if you have to. But if you’re in good shape you’ll make it to the upper lake in no more than 1h (45mins to the middle lake, if you get there might as well keep going). The hike is heavily transited so try going on a weekday if possible to avoid the crowds. Lots of mosquitoes on summer, hectic parking (yes, even on week days, just be patient and something will pop up) and need a free day pass, saw people that drove all the way there and didn’t know they needed one. Bring snacks and enough water to spend the day. Don’t make it a day trip.stop by Pemberton or Whistler to spend the night, make it a nice getaway. All in all this place is a must go in BC, it really is wonderful! More shots and videos at @maluzizz.
This is an amazing hike! I was in awe in the middle and upper lakes, the views are just stunning. The parking lot is not too big and gets full even when the weather is not the best.
Beautiful place. The lower lake is just 5 mins from the parking lot. The second lake is a long hike for 3kms and might take around 2.5-3 hours. The views are outstanding and magnificent. The third lake is one km and takes around 15 mins to reach. Great view of the glacier and the river from the top. The campground is further 1 km from the third lake. Washrooms are available at the first and second lake. Nothing in between. Carry water and be prepared for a good hike. You have to book in advance to enter the park. It is free!
One of the most beautiful places I have seen in my life! The scenery is just out of this. The level of difficulty of this hike is moderate/ difficult. There is a 400-500m elevation gain. The first lake is easy, right by the parking lot, the second is 1-2 hours. It is very steep. Wear your hiking shoes. The third lake is 0.5 hr from the second but also very steep to ascend. We continued further even up near the glacier. Bring lots of water with you, bring lunch as well. You will likely spend 5 hours here if you take your time but even more if you decide to go near the glacier- 7-8 hours. Soooo worth it! Please go you will not be disappointed.
DAY PASS REQUIRED! PLEASE BOOK A DAY PASS BEFORE YOU VISIT AT DISCOVERCAMPING. CA /ALSO TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR CONFIRMATION NUMBERS FOR US, THANK YOU
Beautiful but overcrowded. Trail is well maintained though. It was easy enough to get day pass (free of charge, but you need 1 pass for each adult in your group, can get up to 4 with one account per day, but in one transaction, a bit weird system.no passes needed for kids). Other thing is parking. It is SMALL for that amount of people.yes, people are are coming in and out, but when we got there at 11am (on Tuesday) parking was full and we spent good 20 mins waiting for a spot.
A gem! You have to hike all the way up to the upper lake. The prize at the end totally worth it. It is better for a dry day as the trail can be muddy and lots of up and down sections.
Late September 2021 A lucky beautiful weekend day - Free day pass is neccesary so we can keep lower impact of human to the environment - Main Parking lot will be full soon, but there is an overflow parking about 100m near there - Bring some fruit if you want to take picture with whisky jack bird, but please don't bring other type of human food that is not good for them and don't feed other wildlife - The park is beautiful, people are responsibily with not a single trash found on trail. Amazing - In normal sunny and dry day, a typical hiking or running shoe and light pack is good enough. However if it's a rainny day, please prepare for wet rock and be safe
Enjoy this beautiful glacier water. 2: 30 hrs driving from Vancouver is a gift.
Hope you guys all having a wonderful time with your friend and family over there️️
If you are a nature lover and happen to be in BC, don't miss this. It is a bit tough one of you are not a regular hiker. With enough breaks, we were able to complete the round trip. Magical beauty of the lakes makes you refresh you! Do it)
It is a pretty good climb to the midfle lake but so worth it. Pack a picnic to eat there. The top lake is only 30 minutes beyond with a falls on the way.
I have gone to Joffre Lake for three times already this year. It's always my favorite. This time my three friends and I went on Nov 12,2018. The trail was very icy and slippery. We wore mirco-spikes from the begin of the hike to the end. They helped us lot, we even didn't feel it's hard to walk whole the trip.we saw lot of people went on this trail unprepared and was hard to walk.
Amazing park and very easy to follow trails. It’s a bit of a drive to get here from Whistler, but the scenery is great and the remoteness is definitely worth it.
The trail signs say that it’s 3 hours each way to the top lake, but me and my mom did the entire hike in 4 hours (there and back) while stopping twice for snacks and photos.
I definitely recommend going up all the way to the top lake, it’s worth the trek. The hardest part I have to say is the “stairs” portion of the hike, just take your time and take lots of short breaks and you’ll do okay.
Beautiful lakes! Pictures don't do it justice. It took us about an hour to get to the second lake. The trail becomes steep and there's quite a few stairs. It was also very muddy! From the second lake to the third lake was about 20 minutes. There are some very friendly Grey Jay's at the top that will happily land on your hand if they think you have food. Well worth the drive!
We went mid October and it was perfect temperature to hike. We arrived at the parking lot around 12 noon and there was still enough parking for at least another 10 cars. It really is just a 5 minute walk to the first lake. From the first to the second lake about an hour. I’m not super fit and manage it well. There’s just one really steep park towards the end otherwise completely do-able. I wouldn’t recommend strollers on this hike unless you just want to check out the first lake as there is uneven ground and steps. We didn’t go to the third lake as we heard the third and second lake look very similar. Definitely recommended this hike to all. Go towards the end of the season when there are less people and the temperature is cool.
One of the best places I have visited so far. The trail is clear and well maintained. The area becomes too crowded on weekends, so parking could be a problem. Camping permit is required. The upper lake has few camping spots along the lake, and few on the hills. The camping area is less crowded compared to the viewing area on the upper lake. Middle to upper lake is challenging hike because of the quick elevation change. Mosquitoes repellent is advised if someone is going to camp at night. There are also outhouse facility available at the campsite and on the trail.
It’s truly a beautiful hike. A little steep going up, but it’s not rocky or rugged. I’ve done this hike several times and each time I’ve seen people of all ages making their way up. The lake and mountains is so incredibly stunning and the glacier is very captivating too if you decide to go beyond the first lake. A bit of a drive up there and it can get very busy as it’s a pretty trendy and popular hike around Vancouver tourism. So drive up as early as you can to beat the masses. Bring lots do water and snacks!
Amazing views and great hiking trail. Best time to walk the trails is in the summer and be prepared with proper equipment starting early October as the trail is often frozen ice sheets which need spikes. Several people fell and broke their hands or arms because they came unprepared, required the staff from the park to come help them out. Come with plenty of time to view all 3 lakes as the first one is barely a 5 minute walk away from the parking.
Parking can get tight in the good weather so come early and don’t park on the side of the highway if you don’t want to be towed away.
Three lakes, 10km up and down, glacier fed lakes that will mesmerize you and a must see hike. Took a dive into the second glacier fed lake and it was heart stopping
Oh beautiful British Columbia, you never fail to surprise! This place is also a gem! Beautiful turquoise water and tones of green Around. If you are brave enough you can have a dip into this glacier lake. Hiking to the lower lake is pretty easy and still picturesque, but if you have what it takes, I’d highly recommend hiking to upper lake. To be honest, it’s not the easiest hike for a man like me who doesn’t exercise and has a small belly. So take your time while you are going up. The signage on the trail shows a lot of hours to complete the trail but we got to the upper lake within 1,5-2hours. After breathing through your a**, you finally get what you deserve. Take it all in, enjoy the view and time being. And finally take all the litter you bring with you
The view was well worth it, mesmerizing. Be sure to get there early, even on a weekday as parking can be challenging. The hike is not as easy as most make it sound. Be sure to be prepared for some steeper, rockier parts of the trail
Get here early because the car park will be full. It's a really challenging walk to get to the lakes but it's really worth it. Absolutely beautiful scenery but very crowded.
Drove all the way to fucking Joffre Lake to turn around cause NO DOGS ALLOWED! All cause people bring their dogs and don’t leave them on leash and don’t pick up after them. Now no one can enjoy it. FUCKING RIDICULOUS!
Very beautiful place, really worth to go! I don't hike very often and I consider the trail for me as a little hard but easier than Brohm Lake. The park is very, very busy - I arrived there at 8: 30 on Saturday morning mid of July and there was no available parking anymore, it gets even busier by noon. The official website says that there's no parking allowed on highway 99 but by the time I was going back there was a line of cars parked on the edge of that highway all the way down for a good 2 km. Bug spray is a must! Take water and food. Washrooms available by every lake (bad quality though).
