Embarrassing experience.
I was in line buying a few items. I did not realize my bank card was changed (since I got a new card a few weeks back). I thought it maybe the machine since this never happened to me before. I asked if I can try the other machine, cashier was hesitant but, eventually did. She then said in Cantonese (I guess she thought I did not understand since I was speaking English to her when she tried speaking Chinese to me.), " TSK, If it didn't work on that one machine, it won't work on the other machine if she doesn't have money. " she said this to her other co-worker right in front of me. It wasn't because I did NOT have money, the total was only 12 dollars. I just did not realize my bank card switched due to the new card, but I DID not appreciate how the employee spoke like this in front of me with her co-worker just because she thought I did not understand especially when there was other CUSTOMERS in the store that also understand the same language. I use to like going there before because the bake good was nice, but with an experience like that, I WILL NOT STEP FOOT IN THERE AGAIN.be careful on what they will say to you if they don't think you are Chinese.

If you're visiting from the US, don't expect any favorable exchange rates here. Wish I could give a review on the food, but I lost my appetite seeing their exchange rate sign, giving dollar for dollar on greenbacks. And of course, they dont accept credit cards. I believe they accept debit, but would not be surprised if there's a surcharge per transaction.

We came at 7pm to get the discount and the cashier said we needed to wait 15 minutes. We spoke to the other employee and they confirmed it was 7pm. They also advertise that the cookies are 50% off at 7pm and the cashier told us that is only for the employees. False advertisement and terrible service. Don't give these crooks your money.

The people are a bit rude which was surprising as it was my first day and place I went to in Vancouver and Canada overall. A person not necessarily yelled but hollered loudly at my sister to get in line to be helped where literally everyone heard and saw but she was just looking in the glass window where some baked goods were. She was definitely embarrassed and I felt concerned for her the rest of the day bc of it and bc they don't tell you they only allow cash or Canadian debit until you've gone up to the cash register with all the food you've picked then having to return it. It is written on a card smaller than a flashcard but again not written at the entrance or recognizable to the human eye before getting to the register. I've been to another Canadian bakery that only allowed cash and you noticed immediately when walking in they only accepted cash. So I wouldn't say we just weren't paying attention it just wasn't obvious for someone walking in for the first time.

The woman in front of us had American cash that she was allowed to pay in exchange but was arguing with the lady at the register bc the bakery said $1 USD = 1 Canadian dollar but really a USD dollar is worth more since it's currently $0.73 Canadian dollar is $1 USD. So definitely felt like they were trying to cheat and make Americans pay more.

Egg tarts were the highlight here at $2.25 and a larger than usual size. Very delicious and well made with great egg texture + flavour. It gets rather busy here being by the Mall and in front of a bus stop. The buns here are around mid $2ish as well and decently made. I would definitely come back here to grab some more baked goods. The Hong Kong milk tea though was not the best experience.overly sweet (pre-made in the fridge) at $3.50. Service here was very quick to check you out. They also serve quick meals here. No seating inside.just an order and go kind of spot. It's a cash or debit card spot only.

It is the best Hong Kong-style bakery in the Greater Vancouver area. The egg tart and pineapple bun is excellent.

Ordered the pineapple bun sandwich with luncheon meat (all sandwiches comes with eggs and cheese). There’s a slip to order just when you enter on the right. It was warm and delicious! The portion was very generous. Definitely would recommend.

Goods are always fresh, tasty, and great value compared to other bakeries (substantial stuffings - unlike Maxims). Always busy but lineup at the cashier is never slow for us)

I went late at night near closing, but was I was checking out well before closing. The cashier was super rude and aggressive. She began rushing me for no reason and didn’t listen when I said I would like to pay debit (which they accept now). I realized the cash I had in my hands weren’t enough so I asked to pay debit. She completely ignored me and she aggressive said that the cash I had wasn’t enough. That is why I asked to pay debit. I had to borrow cash from my friend because she was yelling at me to hurry and didn’t allow me to pay debit. Overall, while the baked goods are delicious, service is consistently poor. Tonight was the rudest service I had. Would rather go to their other locations.

Many selection of pastry and bakery. Staff are friendly but the only thing I dont like is that they only accept cash or canadian debit only. Im not from Canada so I have to withdrawn cash since they dont accept visa or master card. If you doing business and dont want to pay fee for credit card transactions?

Great bakery items, their iced lemon tea was to die for. It tasted like a well known boxed lemon tea drink. Other than that, pastries were okay.
02 September 2022 7:26
I like this spot.maybe it's the people, maybe it's the wide assortment of Chinese style buns and pastry but I always kinda feel like I'm in a completely different place far away on some adventure.its probably just me. I personally like the lemon buns.

Portuguese egg tart was pretty good. Wasn’t too expensive also so just had to try it. It did remind me a bit of Macau style ones. I also liked that it was warm so was a good texture and flavor.
13 April 2022 9:03
I don't care how delicious their pastries taste, they just need to learn how to serve customers first! I bought a whole bunch of buns, tarts, sandwiches and coffee, and kindly asked for some more napkins as they gave us (3 people) only 3 sheets. The lady who served me was hesitant and looked back at her manager, and the manager lady flat out refused it by throwing a loud "no" in my face. I stood there speechless in disbelief for a while. Seriously? ! Is it too much to ask? ! FFS, it wasn't like I just walked into their store and rudely asked some freaking napkins for free! Even if it was the case, I wouldn't treat anyone the way she did to me! It was just awful enough to ruin my day. I would've given ZERO star if I could! Shame, shame, shame!
12 April 2022 0:57
It is a bit scary now to have a homeless person inside the store greeting people. If you refuse to give him change, he will stare at you until you leave the store.
18 March 2022 23:13
Feels like in Hong Kong. We have been visiting this shop like 6 times during our trip to Vancouver last month.
15 March 2022 5:17
The bakery and food is super good. 5 stars to that but I would rate a 1 to 0 if I could in terms of service. Especially the lady in the short hair. She’s always very rude. Like the world owes her something. Too bad the bakery is so good or else I wouldn’t recommend. It’s like a 1 min transaction to pay for the bread but it’s like a torture if she helps you.
11 March 2022 13:46
Big sized buns, service was friendly and helpful. If you go before closing, buns are buy 2 get 1 free. They don't have a parking lot so you have to park at the Richmond Centre lot.

Amazing pineapple buns and wife pastry. If you’re coming from America, know that they’re USD to CSD is 1: 1 so have CSD on hand
07 December 2021 23:16
Amazing bakery. Their buns are so good for what you pay for. They're so soft, you just wanna eat more and more.
05 December 2021 18:05
Good place for asian baked goods.
Fresh.
Earl grey butter cookies.
Black sesame seed peanut cookies
30 November 2021 4:26
They open at 7am but items are not ready on display. U have to ask the cashier for the item u want for them to get at the back
25 November 2021 8:28
Asian bakery. Busier than Kam Do Plaza location. Accepts cash. Accepts debit card, only on purchase ≥$5. No storefront parking. Close to Richmond Centre, and Canada Line Brighouse Station.

OMG! Best? Cake I've had in a while! Definitely worth the wait!

Thank you Lin for the delicious birthday cake!

Mmmmm

Came here for their breakfast menu on a Sunday. The store was empty at 8am time but the shelves were full of goods. We ordered the pineapple bun sandwich with corned beef and the satay beef instant noodles. We also got the pineapple bun with red bean, wife cake, green bean cake, milk powder bun, sesame mochi, coconut bun and garlic ham bun.

I would recommend the coconut bun and the sesame mochi for the baked goods. The milk powder bun also had a lot of filling. The prices are moderately priced.

As for the pineapple bun with corned beef and cheese and egg. Boy oh boy did it create a mess in the car but it was very delicious. You couldn't really taste the cheese much but the egg was very creamy and delicious. The corned beef was just salty enough to balance the sweetness of the pineapple bun. The portion was also quite large. I just wish there was a bit of veggies in it maybe pickles or something to balance off the heaviness of everything.

As for the instant noodles with satay beef, I wouldn't order it again. The instant noodle soup base was okay. Nothing amazing. The instant noodles were cooked well. I liked that the container separated the instant noodles and the soup. They give you quite a bit of satay beef but it didn't have much satay flavour.

Overall would recommend their pineapple bun sandwich and some of their baked goods. I used to be a big fan of their wife cakes but as I've grown older I no longer crave for them. But they are definitely known for them and you should definitely try it if you have not.

All of Kam Do's desserts are baked fresh daily and made from high quality ingredients. In my opinion, Kam Do makes the BEST mango and coconut pudding in Richmond! The gelatinous mango pudding I ordered for $3.25 is made from REAL MANGO PULP. A cool, refreshing dessert that is very popular in Hong Kong is the perfect way to reward yourself after a long, hard day of work.

Huge variety of traditional Chinese baked goods, both sweet and savoury. Price is seriously unbeatable, most everything is under $2, and everything is delicious. They're cash only.
31 October 2019 23:56
Everytime I pass through or visit Vancouver I make it a point to stop by Kam Do Bakery and buy 4 to 5 dozen goodies to take home with me by plane. Not just because I may be in deep water with the family if I didn't.but seriously its great stuff. Stuff as in Delicious! It's worth the trip and the dollars.
14 October 2019 3:03
Always fresh and so fluffy. Pineapple buns for the win. Go after 6pm, then there’s a discount but less variety. I prefer the other location only because the staff can be quite abrupt and rude at this location but the buns are great!
No easy parking except at mall.
28 September 2019 7:56
The smell alone is all the advertising they need! Good Asian-style bakery with a decent selection of goods to choose from, and at a reasonable price. Hot dog buns are amazing when freshly made! Just remember to bring cash, as they don't take debit or credit card.
27 September 2019 14:52
Love this place. Right across from Brighouse skytrain station in the mall. Go almost every time I'm in Richmond via the train. Standard Chinese bakery fair. I chose a selection of savoury buns and either an egg tart or Portuguese tart. The fresh fruit cakes are beautiful and so yummy.
12 September 2019 4:43
Very popular Cantonese bakery. Love their mango roll cakes and buns (or the pastries). I tend to go around 8pm since that's when they have the discounts.

I really miss their HK diner, it was a local fav. It was always packed with customers and actually my childhood memory. I remember my parents always bringing me and the whole family there on Sundays to have morning/lunch tea. Owners are super friendly and nice, so are their staffs.

This location is super convenient for those on their way to take the transit (great place to buy a quick breakfast/snack).
03 September 2019 15:14
Really good bakery for Chinese baked goods located right beside Brighouse station. No tax if you buy 6 or more items.
30 August 2019 2:02
They don't take cash which is something to expect when going to these kind of bakerys but it's always a treat coming here.
23 August 2019 2:38
Lots of great pastry options! Buy 6 or more and they will not charge tax. You can also go later before they close for discounted prices.

Cash only!

Chicken bun was very good - they were generous in the filling and spot on on taste. I also really enjoyed the red bean mochi. My boyfriend had the tiramisu which was also good but I would suggest adding more expresso - needs a bit more of a coffee boost to it. I also which they didn’t wrap every single item in plastic - very wasteful.
31 July 2019 11:25
This place used to be in quite good reputation. However from recent merchandise they selling, neither quality nor portion keep up. Baked items are still fresh, except they prepared in a much cheaper way, and contents inside pastry items also feels cheating customers. For the price of what they charge, kinda expensive if you know the cost and ingredients that they were made from. Cash only is also another pain in the neck, but that's Richmond we speaking about.
06 June 2019 20:04
Just came here for the first time, found a bug walking around inside one of the buns I bought. I'm sure this is probably a one off, but maybe this happens more often than I think.

Look before you bite!
17 April 2019 19:20
Great selection of delectable Chinese Buns & Pastries with typical fillings. Tuna Bun & Curried Beef Bun in particular had a good ratio of filling to bun. Reasonable prices. Friendly service. Cash only.
06 April 2019 7:23
Cash only. Good selection and cashier's are nice enough. In and out, right across the street from Canada Line station. Good chicken buns.
05 April 2019 0:48
I love the buns and cakes here and it’s one of my favourite places to get them, I go here everyday after school to get a bun or two
24 February 2019 22:43
Good food, but cash only, and was definitely in the pockets of certain candidates in the last election.
