My wife and I have driven past Karat for quite some time and finally we were walking by near closing time and decided to go in. Since Anne Annegrets chocolates closed we have been looking for a new (good) chocolate shop. Karat is that place. These little spheres of chocolaty goodness has made this place our new place to go. Everything from taste to packaging (looks like a jewelry box) will bring us back over and over.
Did I mention that they have coffee as well? Next time we go in and sample it and if it's any good, we will definitely have a new downtown spot.

The owner of the business where I work presented me with 4 luscious bars from Karat. I consumed 1 of the bars and it was delicious. I will be giving the other 4 as gifts. The receivers will be delighted as well, I'm positive. Delightful chocolate!

Not only the best pastry shop in Kelowna- the pastry here was hands down the BEST bite we had the entire trip. The pastries are a literally journey- stunning to the eye and full of layers of surprises. I watch a ton of baking shows and never understood the fuss the judges make about perfectly tempered chocolate UNTIL we tried the apple pastry and I felt that satisfying snap of the thin chocolate coating under the apple skin. The staff were also friendly, coffee was tasty and the atmosphere was lovely.

Second time coming here and their sweets are just so good! We always bring friends here when they visit from out of province. Always pleasantly surprised with new seasonal items. Their croissants are die for as well.

Lovely atmosphere, and amazing pastries. The flavours are definitely more appealing for an older palette. My kids found the flavour combinations strange. My husband and I really enjoyed the unique flavour combinations and beautiful presentations.

Without a doubt the best local dessert shop. They truly create edible art. Their pastries and chocolates are constantly changing and I love how they prioritize using fresh local ingredients. Kelowna is so lucky to have Karat Chocolate!

OMG. I have travelled the world and pastry and sweet is my thing. Read a comment about that place that it was the best thing the guy had put in his mouth and honestly, it was like that for me. PERFECTION

I have lived in Kelowna for 8 years and walked into this bakery for the first time the other day and purchased 1 tiramisu and 1 cherry pistachio dessert and were by far the best I've ever had. Will definately be returning

One of my favourite go-to’s! Delicious chocolate and baked treats, good to treat yourself but also makes great gifts!

Was told an item was gluten free when it wasn’t. Came in just to look at the beautiful pastries and when asked if I wanted to purchase anything I said no sorry I’m gluten free (celiac) and vegan and I doubt I can eat anything here. I was told there were gf vegan croissants. I clarified 3 times asking if the item was in fact gluten free because I couldn’t believe this place had vegan gluten free croissants. Additionally, the pastry case only stated the item was vegan and didn’t mention anything about gluten free (another reason why I asked staff 3 times if the item was in fact gluten free). Purchased and ate a bite of the croissant (which in fact is not gluten free) so now I am very sick. Contacted the manager the next day who was very accommodating and said staff would be talked to. However, just think it’s important for people with allergies to be very cautious. Fyi for anyone celiac, with a gluten allergy, or gluten intolerance no pastries are gluten free.

This one lady is really rude or maybe just racist because she seem very good and patient with others. When i order she always acts like she cant hear me or cant understand me. Food is really good, but as people you guys can do much better!

Going to this place makes you feel like you are on a little luxury trip in Europe. Go in, stay for a buttery, flakey croissant with an Americano. In fact, stay a bit longer and have about 4 more desserts and forget about dinner. The owners love what they are doing and you can taste it in each lovely bite. Definitely try the seasonal "fruits" -from cherries to apricots, apples and pears these lovely little bits are made from white chocolate shells. Inside you get a compote of local fruit, some mousse, a layer of cake and holding everything together on the bottom is a lovely little cookie. Believe it or not, sugar is not the first thing you taste! I could write about this place all day, but better you go in find try for yourself!

This is by far the best pastry shop I've been too.
If you visit Kelowna or live here you have to try their products you won't regret it.

Like others are saying, amazing pastries. It was almost 70$ for 3 pastries and a croissant, which is pretty insane (yes I know its homemade and things are expensive but thats still a lot). The lady at the cash was kinda cold. After reading the owners response to the bad reviews, my mind is blown away. The owner is so rude to customers who spent money on his/her business, instead of listening to people's experiences and wanting to improve, he/she is so defensive. Really sad because quality products are there but service is just a disgrace. Owning a business is hard and a lot of work, but to run a good one and maintain a reputation you should respect your clients.

To respond to the owner:
Yes I think I was over charged and the woman did not give me my receipt so its my mistake for not asking why it came up to that price. I'm not sure what is suspicious about me? Its the first time I leave a review. I have a food blog and I carefully read the good and bad reviews of all businesses before I go, I thought your responses were harsh. Good job on making amazing quality pastries but you should be nicer to the criticism. (not all clients who leave bad reviews are bad clients, and respect should always be maintained) I am not being passive aggressive.

Dessert (see picture) was good and well put together. I liked the cohesive theme of the decor and design of the venue. Come by to see the gorgeous selection of Karat chocolate on the shelves with elegantly modern packaging.

Just wow! Julian‽ is an amazing pastry chef. Coffee is good too. Lovely place to sit, great ambiance. The chocolate is very good, but the pastry makes you believe you've been to France. Staff is nice. But that pastry! Try a lychee cream puff or double chocolate crossaint!

Karat offers a fine selection of pastry's and treats.they sell some of the flakiest croissants and delicious desserts. They sell an amazing variety of homemade truffles.if you haven't been yet you must check it out.

Not happy with the service. If you are planing cake for wedding or birthday or anniversary don’t think to order from this place there are many better cake boutiques in kelowna. As I placed an order online the confirmation email was say that someone will contact you Shortly no one buddy contacted me by email or phone just on day on pickup they will text you that order is ready for pickup and if you asked then I didn’t record any email, they will suggest you don’t come for pickup you should buy it from somewhere else.
And one last thing if you are thinking about traditional round shape cake as it’s shown on there website you will get a log of cake.

Don't go for the coffee. I went there today, and the coffee was terrible. It was super bitter at first, which was fine after putting in some sugar. However, after drinking more of it, it had a very sour taste and I couldn't finish it, that was how terrible it was. Afterwards, I had a bad stomach ache and felt sick. I don't know if it was from the coffee machine not working well, or the cream being rotten, or the coffee quality being terrible, but 0/10 wouldn't coffee again. However, the macaroons are excellent there.

Amazing place I love going here they have elegant desserts but in affordable prices. The flavors are magnificent, once you eat you're dessert your mouth is bursting with beautifully delicious flavors. I would highly recommend to go here it is perfect, delicious and amazing affordable prices for beautifully elegant luxurious desserts.

What a wonderful little Cafe. Pastries were delightful and looked really cute. A great idea for gifts or special occasions. Their coffee was strong and tasty. Staff were really friendly and the cafe had a very warm welcoming feeling. Also I visited them during winter and the had chiristmas decorations done so it was very festive. I will definitely go back to this place and I do recommend it.

Karat is my all time favourite chocolate and pastry shop. I would go every week if I could! I’ve tried just about all their cakes and none of them disappoint. Their bon bons are also phenomenal. Needless to say I absolutely adore this shop and highly recommend!

We were visiting Kelowna for the weekend and I wanted to go to a dessert place. I was craving for a well constructed dessert something that I had had only seen in Vancouver. We were in downtown just roaming about when I came across this place. I didn’t expect to see to see the variety of art pieces in the form of desserts there. Not only were they visually stunning they were incredibly delicious too! It’s truly a must try for all those dessert lovers out there.

A true gem of the Okanagan. You need to stop by here and enjoy some of the best chocolates and sweets in the country

It’s absolutely amazing! Their coffee is great, and their desserts are amazing! So hard to find a nice cafe like this, its the perfect vibe.
Lastly, the staff is also very friendly.

Cozy atmosphere, phenomenal treats, and not to mention that Karat has the greatest and most welcoming staff. Respect for all they do.

Good tasting bake goods. Perhaps they could switch counters around so that you can view the product first (pastries etc) before the cashier. Or change the direction of the line. It was my first time and really did view the pastries just ask the cashier what was available.which took up her time to tell me what was in the show case. Just the flow was awkward. The pastries were delicious and we would go back again.

I got the strawberry sponge cake and a lime key cheesecake they were to die for. It taste so amazing and bursting with flavors it reminds me of this place back home that I use to get my delicious cheesecake from everytime.

Can’t say enough good things about this place! Not only are the deserts unique and delicious but the staff are professional and nice (it gets very busy and you would expect to see them overwhelmed or stressed and I never feel that from the employees at all) the desserts are expensive but the time and effort, the quality…. That is put into them… absolutely worth it! If you want to make someone in your life feel really special take them to Karat:)

Oh my gosh, where to even start? The beautiful exterior is thoughtfully designed and the bistro tables are reminiscent of a Parisian bakery. The interior was also beautiful and dine in is available at well-spaced tables. The chocolate bars line the shelf ready to be taken and enjoyed. The pastry case is a show stopper! The beautiful large fluffy croissants and the gorgeous tarts and cakes are almost TOO pretty to eat! I wish I had the time to try them all, but the Peach tart was definitely my favorite of the two we tried. The Black Forest Cherry was also delicious and the kirsch came through beautifully. The desserts are rich and decadent and SO flavorful. Words can't adequately describe the different flavors and layers and beauty in these thoughtful creations. You should most definitely stop and purchase a treat here; I don't think there could be a bad decision.

I saw the devine presentation of the pastries posted on their website and was very intruiged to go here. I read the positive reviews and was quite impressed, I go to look at the negative reviews (solely to observe how company's deal with complaints) and OH BOY. Whoever Julian is, the one replying to the negative reviews, that's clearly not how you get customers. After reading the way you reply I definitely will NOT be ordering from here. The way the owner/manager replies to feedback is very important in how a restaurant is portrayed and getting upset or angry at low star ratings isn't a way to get business.

This place is so lovely.
So many different options available and out of three I have tried, all were so lovely! I tried the strawberry shortcake croissant (very decadent, be aware!), feta and spinach croissant, and the little half moon with berry filling done very well and I am very picky on this.
The inside decor is lovely and very comfortable.

The entremets are insane! Chocolate, croissants, mini cakes, lemonade and coffees! Take your pic they are all incredibly well crafted and a delight to see as well as eat!

The staff and customer service is where the lower rating is coming from. I would give it a zero star on the service. We were the only ones in the store. We walked in greeting the staffs and the staffs made eye contact with us, so they definitely heard both of us saying "hello, " and they ignored us; no respond back.we were not helped at all. We asked questions about the cakes and got very cold one word responds. We did end up buying some sweets and leaving a tip because we support local and we truly do love the cakes. The male staff was more into flirting with the female staff instead of caring about customers.

Their chocolates, croissants, macarons, and dessert creations are all incredible! I’ve given out Karat chocolates for every birthday, thank you and special occasion this past year+, end all I’ve heard are rave reviews from the recipients! I’ve been really loving the pavlova croissant that they’ve been making lately!

WOW! I ordered the strawberry mousse/lemon curd cake for my mother-in-law's birthday and it was absolutely delicious! It was the most spectacular cake I have ever seen or eaten. Light, and perfectly moist, not too sweet - just perfect in every way. Thank you for an unforgettable cake!

High quality pastries, a perfect treat for special occasions! Got 5 pastries, 1 was given complimentary due to a misunderstanding with the order that wasn't caught until we opened the box at home (which is really fantastic service by their team/owner). We got a black forest tart, hazelnut cake, lemon dessert, another chocolate cake, and a strawberry delectable.

Black forest tart - contrasting textures with crunchy base, creamy inside and syrupy middle. Loved it being in the shape and colour (and tasting) like a cherry with some nice gold flecks for added sparkle!

The hazelnut cake had a harder chocolate base, with soft hazelnut cream and small slivers of nuts. Could taste the richness!

Would come back again to try the decadent looking croissants, and their other desserts!

Beautiful and just delicious. Always a nice treat when in town to stop here. I suggest ordering early for any special occasions, they tend to sell out quick and can have a lengthy turn around:)

Really nice design of their cakes, taste is alright but looks great. The best in taste out of the three cakes I got was the rectangular shape espresso cake. Special cakes are $12+tax, regular cakes are $9+tax.

Great staff. Beautiful chocolate. Unfortunately found more than one of the clientele rather rude and pushy. Too many privileged rich old white women for me.

This place is the star on top of the Christmas tree in Kelowna! Most bakeries in town are mediocre at best, Karat never disappoints, there’s always something new to try. Their pastries are not only pretty to look at but taste Amazing too.

Came to Karat because a friend recommended it. Bought three chocolate bars to fill some stockings. Have yet to try this expensive chocolate. It was a nice space with good cover protocol.

Karat chocolate is a lovely, sophisticated spot in downtown Kelowna. Beautiful on the outside as much as it is on the inside, the coffee was great and so were the pastries. Staff was friendly and helpful and there was plenty of room to sit and chat or study.

The pastries and chocolate are delicious, but the service left much to be desired. Family recommended this chocolate/pastry shop to us and of course we had to visit. We were pretty disappointed with the service of the staff. One lady seemed particularly impatient when we inquired about the flavours of the different pastries. It would've been helpful if the pastries had labels if she didn't want to explain what they were. She walked away while we were deciding, which was fine. So while ordering, it was the other lady who helped us and she did not ask "Was that all for you today? " or something along those lines, and just gave us the total payment amount partway through and turned the machine around for us to pay. We had to say there were a few other things we wanted. Finally, practically all businesses either have a plexiglass/shield at the cash register and/or the staff would be wearing masks. The impatient lady was not wearing a mask nor was there plexiglass! And she was the one making the drinks too. Definitely will not visit again, even though the croissants were pretty good.

Super disappointed they got rid of the single bon bon option or build your own box. Now people who have dietary restriction can't get anything from there. Really unfortunate. Hope they bring it back.

Everything is excellent. I go here whenever I need a little pick me up since my work is just a couple blocks away. The croissants are absolutely amazing and their chocolates are literally the best chocolates I have ever had. I got a bunch of their chocolate bars to send to friends this Christmas and I know they'll just love them!

Karat is the best! Such uniquely beautiful desserts and chocolates. Not only are they beautiful but they taste even better!

This place makes excellent chocolates with lots of variety. They also have a nice, cozy cafe where they do specialty coffee/hot chocolate/tea and baked goods. I have never had the coffees or baked goods but I often get the chocolates to give as gifts and for special occasions and they are always a hit.
