Kim & Co Hair Studio

I'll preface my review with the fact that I thought Kim the owner and hairstylist is an amazing lady. She is a one-woman show and is highly efficient at what she does.

I went in for a hair consultation before my actual appointment where I showed Kim some photos of a black-silver balayage. The job would require bleaching, a haircut and colour correction as the tips of my hair were currently light green. Kim told me that she could try to do it.

I went back 2 weeks later for the hair appointment. I told Kim that I only wanted a little bit of hair cut off, around 2", mainly to remove the split ends and add some layers. She completed the haircut in about 20 minutes and started putting in the foils for the highlights. While I was waiting for the bleach to take effect, she went to cut and colour two other clients' hair (I told you she is very efficient). She then came back and told me that she would dye the ends of my hair black. I was a bit surprised as I didn't think that my intended vision was to have black ends, but I couldn't really see what she was doing with all of the foils already in my hair. She also applied more bleach to some of the foils.

As I waited for the dye and bleach, she cut another person's hair.

Finally, the foils were removed and she toned the bleached parts to appear more silver. I wasn't really able to fully see everything that was done to my hair at the salon. She blow dried my hair, which was now black with silver highlights, not a balayage, and I left. The work took about 4 hours and I paid $330 after tip.

At home I noticed some serious issues. First, my haircut is uneven - the left side is shorter than the right and there are no layers to be seen. It looked like Kim took a pair of scissors and cut horizontally across the back. The highlights were not done to my roots and end abruptly about 2cm from my scalp. Not all parts were bleached evenly, so the highlights are a combination of ashy grey in some parts and brassy/bronze in other parts (especially the areas close to my scalp). My natural hair color is not black, but a deep brown, and the ends of my hair are now true black and quite striking.

I can live with the colour job but the haircut is very disappointing. I have been growing out my hair for a specific hairstyle for my wedding which is happening in 10 days. I have to now go to another trusted salon to see if they can fix it, and find hair extensions.

Unfortunately, while I really like Kim as a person, I will not be returning for another hairstyle. I wish she just declined my request during the initial consultation.

Me and my sister don’t get our hair done too often because we re lazy and it cost so much to get a a cut. Normally twice a year and no one cuts our hair as well as Kim does. It’s done in such a way where when it grows out it still looks fantastic! Even after 6 months. I had my hair coloured with her and she mixed a very beautiful colour that would warm and compliment my skin tone.

Kim was so personable, friendly and professional. She put in exactly the right color of blonde highlights. Fantastic experience! Definitely good value!

I've been getting my hair cut and coloured with Kim for many years! She is friendly, personable and a wonderful stylist! If ever I didn't feel right about the cut or the colour, Kim is very accommodating and will make sure I love it before ever leaving her salon.
