Kimu Japanese Cuisine

We came here on Saturday for lunch. We came to try their lunch boxes as the prices seemed very economically. These were massive! We were a party of 6 and we each got 1. We couldn't finish it as there was so much food. They are very generous with the portion sizes. I would recommend 2 people to share one and then maybe order a roll on the side instead of everyone ordering one. We tried the sushi boxes, chicken, pork and salmon. They were all not bad. But between the sushi and the chicken/pork ones I'd probably choose the chicken/ pork ones as the sushi didn't feel as fresh as I would have liked.

The sushi pizza was okay. Nothing outstanding. It fell apart too easily. I wouldn't order this again.

The service is okay. Not super fast or attentive. Checked up on us for water a couple of times. The place wasn't too busy or anything. Would definitely recommend this place for economical lunch boxes.

I visited in a month! My whole family enjoyed the food so much but the 2 stars was for the service of one of the servers.

Overall everyone there was very friendly & helpful except for one of the servers. She was taking our orders and look expressionless. Through out dinner, the way that server clears the plates & helping with our requests for more utensils, she looked pretty upset & annoyed. I thought she was having a rough day…until I saw her being capable of smiling & being friendly at Caucasian customers. I hope this is a one time incident because it was extremely off-putting & disconcerting for any customers. No one should deserve service like this.

Ordered the tempura, edamame, dynamite role, blue fin oshi, tamago cone, spicy scallop cone, froe gras, chicken yaki udon and miso ramen. The tempura was crispy on the outside and soft interior served with a tangy sweet sauce. The blue fin was seared with crispy tempura crisps, garlic crips, jalapeno and a buttery savory sauce. The tamago cone was served in a cone with 2 tamago rolls, the eggs were soft, flavourful and the rice was perfectly cooked. The spicy scallop cone was the same as the tomago cone with a white sauce and red spicy sauce. Scallops were fresh and I can't say more about the rice. The rice was really good, warm, soft and you can get each individual, they obviously washed the rice well before cooking. We ordered only one piece of froe gras, and it was buttery with a hint of seared fatty pork flavor. The yaki udon was flavourful, but not over powering, the chicken and udon were cooked well and was very soft, but didn't fall apart. The chicken in most places are overcooked and hard. The udon is either over or under cooked. The ramen was also good, the noodles were aldente and the soup base was flavourful. Also had an okina premium beer. Thought I was getting a glass, but got the full bottle.

Overall, I think I have found my favourite Japanese restaurant. Maybe another one will overtake this in the future.

A cozy Japanese restaurant is located at a resident corner. Two people of us always had a lot of sushi rolls before. So at this time we tried other special items like Premium sashimi, aburi foie gras, uni and seafood motoyaki with gomae and miso soup as pics below.

My favourite among these is Foie Gras. Premium sashimi and Uni are ok. I like the prawns, which is chef’s choice, in sashimi dish the most. The Seafood motoyaki tastes frozen to me that is acceptable with the price. I don’t like the gomae since the sauce is not so tasty and hard to mix well with spinach.

There were two waitresses. One was nice. The other one seemed like she’s being mad at something that made us confused when we’re being served. Generally service was ok. Food came out and the empty plates were cleared quickly.

Ordered the salmon Don and came in such a big bowl but very small portion for $15. Disappointed and will not be going back. Wish I took a picture to show but I was in disbelief that the portion was so small

Ordered a decent amount of takeout for 6 people to eat outside. When I got to my destination, I found out they didn't provide any utensils, tissues, or soy sauce. Pretty important things to have, and I can't believe so many essential items were missed. Made eating what we had difficult.

Best underrated japanese food in Vancouver. Seafood motoyaki is a must, and also the tune belly

Good for groups. The sushi is decent and prices are fairly reasonable. Best to keep expectations in check as this is not high end.

Fast, friendly service. They even have children's plates and cups. BBQ kalbi is delicious.

Been at a kimu many times because it's convenient. However one should mention that the quality and portions have diminished over the years and it is perhaps the reputation that brings people back. Menu has many items and they tend to make it as western as possible adding capers, garlic, olive oil and BBQ sauce. From our order tonight, belly king was our least favorite and sushi cake was the best item. Chirashi Don, had moderate amount of fish and nothing extraordinary. The belly king with lettuce and pesto like sauce tasted weird and nothing like a sushi. Sushi cake could have less imitation crab and a bit more salmon for $16. The Chirashi Don also contained a piece of ika that could be sitting there for a couple of days. A bit more rice with chirashi also could not hurt. Overall kimu has some more popular items on the menu that should be ordered and some are not ordered as much for a reason. Teriyaki chicken and beef are also quite popular FYI.

Since living in the neighbourhood, I go there often on my days off. The food at Kimu is fantastic! From the taste to the presentation, thats another keeps me going back there. However, the reson i give it 2 stars is because of its lack of friendly service! There was not once i was welcomed by a smile on their faces. I think to many people, include me, services in a restaurant is just as important as the food! I hate the attitutes of couple of their seinor waitresses! Hope see a change or i will not go back again!

Wow this was a surprise find on a whim and we were impressed with everything! Speedy service too. The sushi was fresh the sunomono was perfect and the noodles were hot and delicious. Dessert was generous and delicately sweet. The little fish shaped pastries are adorable. We loved this place and will be back soon and often!

Female waiter was abrasive, pointlessly rude out of nowhere, guy next to her taking orders was fine and got a bill from him.

Bizarre experience

I usually go to Kimu with my family of 6 and made a reservation. However my daughter sudden was not feeling well so only 5 of us can go this time.

When we arrived, I was blame by a lady that we have to call Kimu before we come. She said many people booked a table for 6 but only 5 came. She said that they don't reserve a table for less than 6 people. (Does it meaning I lie to her?)

I feel so angry and want to leave but we didn't. Because of my parents are too old and I don't want to upset them. It seems we beg for a table.

The lady served us with poked-face and no smile at all. We never have such experience in Kimu before as Kimu is our favourite restaurant.

I want to clarify that I did not know Kimu do not reserve a table less than 6. When I call, Kimu did not mention this policy even on their website.

I am sure we won't go to Kimu again even she has good food. I believe there is a lot of choice in the market.

We were so hungry! The teriyaki dish we order we eat it in the parking lot.didn't wait until home. The best we had:)

This restaurant used to be one of our go-to for a fast and tasty Japanese Bento lunch. But today we felt the service was a little short when we asked about the freshness of some tuna fish in a roll because of a darker than usual color. We got a rather rude, direct rejection from the male server when we tried to asked for a resolution (i.e. Can we change to something else? Can we cancel the order?) by just a 'No'. Other than that other food items are good on average.

We came here on a Friday at 5: 00 and was able to order right away. The inside of the store was probably at half capacity. We ordered 2 dons, a salmon don and a Oyako don. We probably waited 35 mins and was only provided an update after asking our waiter where our food was. We continuously saw orders for takeout come out of the kitchen. The salmon was warm. We had to wait an additional 5-10 mins for the oyako done to come out. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Wow, wow, wow, wow!
I thought I had been to the best sushi restaurants.nope, apparently not until this evening. A co-worker and I were looking for a place that was open late (we arrived at 8: 30), they had posted a closing time of 9pm. The staff happily treated us and invited us to sit down once a table was free. Clean friendly staff (you could see smiles even though they were wearing masks). After ordering the food arrived in a timely manner. Presentation was perfect.looked and smells great.
Then the best part. I'll start off this way. Every other place I've been in the past may have pulled off the above well. And the food may have tasted "good". BUT! This was the first time I've started to say wow. This is really, really great. Each different item not only looked different, but the flavor was amazing and as silly as it sounds, tasted deliciously different from the next. My co-worker and I will be back again. Heck I don't often write reviews. But I had to tonight.

The food is good but nothing extra from other Japanese restaurants and their food is quite expensive compared to other japanese restaurants.

If I can give no star, I would not give one star.
Food was just OK, but pricy, food quality is not very good. Service was terrible, the waitress poured tea on one of ur guest's plate, and the sushi was on the plate was ruined by the tea, and they only apologized. And when they serve the food, the put it at the edge of the table. Never come back again! Terrible experience.

First time eating here and the food is great. The place looks very clean and the service was outstanding. The tuna tataki was my favourite. I’ll be back for sure.

Prices were very reasonable at $6-12 for rolls, with a wide selection on the menu, including cooked items.

The food was alright, but the service was terrible. The portion sizes are average for the price and the sushi is well made. It looks like the servers here are too busy with takeout orders and are unable to keep up with in-house dining.

After being sat down, we waited for 15-20 minutes before being able to order food, and that was after we tried flagging down staff multiple times. There was one instance where we made direct eye contact with a server but she ignored us.

We were only able to order after a couple was sat at the table next to us. The server even took their order before ours.

We were right about to leave the restaurant, so it was pure luck that we were able to order.

Delicious sushi, with a hint of Korean dishes on the menu. Only been here a couple times, pretty sure that's gonna change soon!

Update: been endless times since 2019. Anyone who knows about this place knows it the best sushi in the area. The quality to price you can't beat. When I "crave sushi" it's sushi from Kimu!

For the price and quality of the aburi sushi oshi I got, this was good and worth it. I would go back for take out.

Mr. Alfredo Roll…. Most amazing roll! This restaurant is a hidden gem and needs a better location.

Shared lunch with a friend here the other day. Covid protocols were followed with spacing of tables, plastic screens between tables, covid passports checked, masks consistently worn by staff. We were promptly seated and served tea. Shared a number of nigiri, rolls and spicy agedashi tofu. The sushi was served quickly and seemed fresh. The spice on the tofu just seemed like squirts of sriracha. Was expecting something a bit more interesting/ balanced in flavour. When you get your bill, you need to get up and pay at the terminal near the back of the restaurant. We were not made aware of this arrangement so waited around a while to pay, expecting the server with terminal to come to the table. There are not a lot of dining choices on Boundary/ Joyce. This is a solid option.

Free parking in the strip mall parking lot. Passed by this place so many times and finally decided to try it. The food tastes great and service was good. Ordered the sushi cake, pork BBQ and salmon don. Also preferred those dishes in that order. The sushi cake was great.

This place is a hidden gem! Food was amazingly fresh and full of surprises. Staff were friendly and professional. Extra kudos to Victoria and Henry! I was so impressed that I had to go back with my mom to share the delight! Cannot wait to go back for more!

Great tasting sushi with Korean flare. I had the sushi and sashimi lunch bento which was a nice balance of a bit of everything with nice presentation. The scoop:

Miso soup: generic miso soup garnished with a piece of mushroom

Sashimi: excellent. Fresh, not fishy, and nice thick slices of generous portioned sashimi. The salmon sashimi tasted clean and creamy. The tuna was standard tuna tasting.

Nigiri: standard sushi restaurant nigiri consisting of tuna, salmon, and shrimp.

Sushi: tasted flavorful with a bit of spice and red pepper sauce. Had Korean vibes to it and some avocado and Tuna mash inside.

Potato Croquettes: filled with corn, mash potato, and intense white pepper flavor.

Salad: tasty but standard salad.

Tempura: Nice and crunchy array if shrimp, pumpkin/squash, and carrot but not drained well as there was a puddle of oil on the wax paper.

My meal, pictured below, cost around $18.50 before tip.

All chefs and 1 server had their mouth and/or nose exposed while wearing a mask.then what's the point of even wearing a mask? ! I gave out 3 stars cuz the food is actually decent

This is a great place, it was recommended to me by a friend for its nigiri and sashimi, in other words I was looking for fresh, quality raw fish and they didn't disappoint. I like other sushi places around the area too, but this place is the best I have had for its raw fish. Also the pizza sushi is a thing of beauty and quite ingenious.

I recently discovered this hidden gem through a friend. Their menu has some staple and typical Japanese restaurant food, but also very unique ones. Their ingredients (especially the raw fish) was very fresh, and their service was great despite that they were quite busy. Great place to take kids or just with friends, easy parking at the parkade on the side of building.

Nice quick service. Came here for lunch and had the sushi & sashimi Bento. Everything was fresh and nicely prepared. Excellent value!

We’ve passed by this place countless times and finally went in today for a late lunch. I had the Vegetable Bento box and the tempura was battered very nicely and fried just enough. The salad was fresh and tasty and the yam/avocado roll tasted good. The fried tofu on top of the vegetables were tasty as well. I didn't have the croquette as I let my kids have it but they seemed to enjoy it. I also tried the vegetable yakisoba and it is better than the other place I usually frequent. I'm glad we stopped by!

The worst Japanese restaurant ever in Vancouver. I went there with my colleagues. I only ordered a bento box and a deep fried tofu. My colleagues were most order a bento box too. 1. No waiters or waitress waited on our table. We have to call them a few times to get their attention for simple task like fill water. And restaurant is half empty that day. 2. It took so long for them to prepare a sample bento box. The average wait time is like half hour after we place our orders. 3. They force us to pay 20% tips even though there are no service. Think twice before you go. And I will never go their again

Kimu’s sushi is excellent and I like it so very much. The location is easily accessible with good parking, a parking lot and street parking. Staff is very friendly and thanks their customers each time. However the seating area is not really big, so get there early for dinners on weekends.

It's definitely worth a try. Super friendly staff and their food is fresh and tasty. Would definitely try again.

Beware of the online ordering system. The estimated time was actually more than double. I waited an 1 hour and 20 minutes for just 4 items. It should have been 40 minutes.

Just call to make your order. The food was fine.

Never fail. Take out cheat-key place. If you have no idea for lunch or dinner. Just order their best. You will hear best meal ever. Thanks guys.

The food is good but the service is atrocious. They won’t bring water or napkins unless you ask and even when you ask they ignore you plainly. They are also understaffed sometimes. The service is so bad that It stopped me from going there.

Great sushi and rolls options, friendly staff, I really like the deep fried and crispy rolls like deep fried yam roll.

Always a good standard of food when we come here. There is parking just before the slip into 29th.

Not sure why this place isn't rated higher, but it has definitely turned into my go-to sushi joint. Fish is always fresh and the prices are fair. Their toro nigiri is my favourite. I have recommended this place to a lot of other people and all have told me it's now their go-to as well. Definitely worth checking this place out

Ordered for takeout - friendly staff and reasonable price, however portion for the special Spicy Scorpion Roll is on the small side just FYI. Pretty delicious flavour and would order from again to try other menu items.

I Enjoyed dining out here - the tempura was yummy! So was the yakisoba chilly beef. Very attentive staff that followed COVID protocols to the T.

Kimu is my staple for sushi because of its consistency. The menu is very extensive, with unique and delicious special rolls such as the Belly King Roll and Bentley Roll. Their bento boxes are also worth it. They are very busy for dinner so expect to wait 40-60 minutes for takeout during peak dining hours. The prices have also gone up in the past couple of years but I will be a returning customer for their friendly service and diverse menu!

Food is great but services are horrible. One of the worst. Maybe due to its always busy but I would appreciate if services is better. Price is on the high side too but food tastes good.

Great food! A lot of unique options I haven't seen in other places. Definitely worth a try despite its difficult-to-reach-by-bus location!

Amazing starters, decent sushi, horrible ramen.
This is a picture of their untouched ramen. If you agree that soup is a important part of ramen, then this ramen is less than acceptable. They have two kinds of ramen on their menu, and the difference between them is the soup, according to their menu. However, as you can see, there is no soup in their ramen.

Not many people when we want at around 8: 30 pm. Food was good, loved the okonomyaki and spinach roll. Location is a bit isolated with not much to do in the area after dinner.

A nice little sushi place runned by koreans. Been here twice, and they tend to be quite busy, especially during dinner time on weekends. Staffs can be friendlier.

This is now my new go-to sushi place whenever I’m in Burnaby! After being completely ignored at Taku Sushi on Vanness Ave, we found that Kimu was just down the road.

We were greeted and served immediately by friendly staff. The restaurant is clean, open, and modern with plenty of seating. We ordered the Bentley Roll (Torched salmon on top of a California Roll with three different sauces on top), Beef Yakisoba (served on a sizzling plate), Volcano Roll (melted cheese on top of a tuna roll - it looked amazing), spicy agedashi tofu, and takoyaki. The Bentley Roll was probably the best roll I’ve had in ages (it beats out the Mania Roll at Sushi Mania for me). The special rolls are a little on the pricier side ($12) but I was STUFFED and had to take our food to go.

I will be back to try their bento boxes, sashimi, and Oshi!

Got the sashimi and sushi bento. Lots of food but the taste and quality is lacking a bit. I may consider going back but would probably order rolls or cooked food rather than sashimi. Service was very quick and nice.

This place is good and consistent. Small parking lot nearby, and there is lots of residential parking too. Kind and attentive staff, even when it's busy. Their lunch bento box is very good value and has a good variety of food. While their portions aren't as big as other sushi places in town, if you're not a big eater like me, you'll get full pretty easily still.

Location is a little odd, not many other food places around the area, but it definitely stands out among many other Japanese restaurants. Their more fusion and speciality dishes are delicious.

GREAT restaurant! Friendly staff and good seats. Not to mention the food is amazing. They offer your normal sushi, udon, don bowls, but they also offer some innovative dishes, like sushi cake, sushi pizza, and different types of roles. A must-go if you live in the area!

It's good stuff! Price point, solid dishes, no wonder it's busy! The menu reflects your standard sushi joint favorites like rice bowls, rolls, etc. Throw in the sushi pizza and sushi cake and it's worth a visit!

Solid Korean owned Japanese food. Aburi was delicious. Good choices for Bento boxes. Best choice for sushi in the nearby area.

A go to sushi joint if you are in the Joyce area. Their prices have slowly crept up in the last two years. Highly recommend!

Every time I went the food was decent. I usually order their normal selection of sushi. Quality of service depends how busy they are, pretty much expected. Reasonably priced.

Another Korean fusioned Japanese food place. Mediocre terriyaki beef lunch box. Beef are all in chunka and some of it burned. Minarated in Korean BBQ sauce that was too sweet.

I came with my boyfriend. We got prawn tempura, beef yakisoba, tofu teriyaki, and a California roll. With taxes, it came out to only $32. We ate our fill and had enough leftovers for another meal. The service was prompt, the food was tasty, the ambience was pleasing.

Our go to sushi destination. A couple notables are the sushi pizza, sushi cake and if you are dining in the tempura ice cream is a must try! Food is always consistently delicious.

A small Hole-in-wall Japanese sushi restaurant. Very good, authentic Japanese Cuisine. Reasonable price. Would go back again.
