We chose this restaurant for a farewell party, where the owner served us. Initially, the glasses weren't properly cleaned, with dust particles in the water. Despite requesting a change, we were denied the glass were clean and we had to rinse them ourselves on our side plate. The pad Thai had burnt shrimps, soggy noodles in excess sauce, and the Yellow curry was undercooked. Despite tipping appropriately, one coworker was publicly called out for insufficient tipping, causing embarrassment. Despite being a longtime customer, this embarrassing encounter makes it difficult to recommend or continue supporting this restraunt.
The food looked nice, but did not have proper flavour. The papaya salad was missing fish sauce and other notable Thai flavours. The pad Thai tasted a little burnt. The drunken noodle dish tasted good, but my wife did not like it at all.
I love this place but the food is a bit expensive for what you get. The location itself is small and doesn't have much space, but they do deliver.
If the place wasn't so cramped and the food was a bit cheaper, this would be an instant recommendation. I particularly love the Pad See Ew and Drunken Noodles, but the entire menu is pretty good.
The best Pad See Ew Chicken I've ever had! Chef Thunder is such an amazing chef with his personal recommendation.if you love Thai food, you NEED to try this!
This was a fairly nice Thai place with a modern vibe, and almost everything can be made vegetarian friendly. Prices are fairly standard across the board, but if you're used to getting a mountain of food at Thai places, Kin Kao takes a more conservative approach with portions (still enough food in my opinion). I felt that their spice level was higher than advertised, and that a mild was more like a moderate at most other places.
A bit pricey but justified by its flavor and ambience. Great date night location. Had pad see ew, pork belly, and tom yum soup. Would highly recommend the tom yum
Solid modern Thai: it’s flavorful and is more authentic than what you probably ate growing up. Pad Thai was tasty with good spice at medium. Loved the lychees added to the duck red curry. Chicken wings, like a few other reviews have mentioned, are bony and lack meat. Plus, if you’ve had or made Pok Pok wings, these are just okay. Papaya salad was fine. Pricey for Thai in general, but in line with modern/authentic versions, however compared to others like it, it’s good but not great.
Excellent dishes, the lychee in the red duck curry blended with the savory duck immaculately - but every dish was well done. The papaya salad was crisp, and the chicken satay could have used a bit more marinade but it was juicy and the peanut sauce makes up for it. The pad see ew noodles were pretty clumped together, which I guess gives them points for seeming house-made noodles, but they probably needed a bit more oil to not clump together. Overall very excellent meal.
This is what $88 worth of curry looks like. No rice included. They also have this ridiculous statement suggesting for extra tips on their Uber Eats menu:
"ALL TIPS go directly to our staff who work tirelessly for close to minimum wage during these times. "
Excuse me? You have the audacity to send food portions enough for a small child and also exclaim you pay your staff close to minimum wage?
The food tasted fine but the value is awful. Never again.
Not my first visit but excellent as always. Best Thai in Vancouver imo. Myself and a friend shared pad Thai and yellow curry, both vegetarian, and they were delicious. Tried to finish but had to accept defeat and get a takeaway box for the remains. From previous visits can say the papaya salad is also a winner. Can’t go wrong here.
There is a promotion on UberEats today. If you buy one Paneng Chicken Curry, you can get another one for free. I understand it’s a promotion and I expected the restaurant would make a smaller portion to make money. However, I didn’t expect it would be such a small portion. The $22 curry is in such a little box. Two boxes cannot simply make a dinner. Totally disappointing!
Delightful bright clean atmosphere with huge windows, delicious food presented beautifully, and motivated friendly staff. The Pad See Ew had very gelatinous noodles that were a more "challenging" consistency than I'm used to, but the sauce and spice and accompanying vegetables were good. I tried the Curry dish as well and it was a delicious rich curry with subtle flavors. Save room for dessert! The mango sticky rice is served with actual slices of mango lined up around the sticky rice and was delicious.
Used to be one of the best Thai Restaurants in Vancouver but with popularity they dont seem to care anymore about the customer. They will not make a simple substitution of tofu for chicken because “they are too busy”. Also they were sold out of three of the menu items I wanted. All this with maybe the most expensive Thai Food in Vancouver. They are more concerned it seems with takeout volumes. I would skip.
This is hands down my fave Thai place in all of Vancouver. Their green curry is my absolute favourite - I would actually dream about this at night when I think about eating leftovers for lunch the next day. The portions are really reasonable and the service is good. I've ordered for takeout and delivery as well and the quality is always consistent whether you eat in or take out.
AMAZING FOOD TASTE QUALITY AND SERVICE. We have toured the world and spent a month in Thailand. This is absolutley the same food taste as the real thing with a twist of fusion. Service was o point, friendly atmosphere. It is small but intimate. Has a very good vibe here. If you see negative reviews at all they have to be intentional. The best Thai food I've had in ten years
I absolutely love this place! Kin Kao was our go-to place for Thai food during covid and I always enjoyed their food in the takeaway boxes but I would rate them even higher after dining-in! The restaurant isn’t fancy but the food is Ah-mazing! The papaya salad was really refreshing and they altered the spicy level for us, and their Pad Thai is one of the best in the city! My favourite dish at Kin Kao is the pork belly stir-fry! It’s a must-try!
Stop whatever you’re doing and just try the green curry. Hands down the best I’ve had, even compared to the ones I’ve tried in Bangkok. It’s flavourful and fragrant without being too heavy, and with just the right amount of sweetness to balance it all out.
If you don’t enjoy a lot of spice, don’t worry, they will gladly adjust the spiciness to your preference!
Had my first experience with Kin Kao this week through UberEats. I got 5 dishes to share with my bf (a double order of satay, green papaya salad, drunken noodles, red duck curry, and Thai basil eggplant.) Everything we offered was delicious! My personal favorites were the papaya salad and eggplant dish. The noodles would be best enjoyed fresh and they became gelatinous upon arrival, but still yummy. The portions are perhaps smaller than average, but it was still a sizeable portion. 4 dishes would likely feed 2 people well. You need to order rice, although we made our own at home. For spice enthusiasts aim for Spicy or Thai level of heat. Others will enjoy mild or medium.
One of the most authentic Thai cuisines in the area.
Always pre order. These guys are super busy.
We usually get padThai with prawns, basil stir fry with chicken and jasmine rice on the side.
Flavours are bomb. Can’t go wrong! Watch out for the spice levels. We got 8/10 for both the dishes and found it too spicy to our liking. I would get a 6 next time to enjoy the dishes better.
Definitely not cheap when compared to most other places.
