The Kobe beef, sashimi and the plum wine are delicious! Really not a fan of the sushi though, the rice was too sticky

Kingyo has a very lovely staff and the vibes are pretty nice too.

The food is good, but it's small portions.
Don't expect to get full with one shared appetizers with one other person and your main dish. I left the restaurant still feeling hungry after spending 36 dollars.

Was excited to come due to good reviews however was very disappointed. It is definitely overrated. The food is so so. Pictures look good but not the taste. We spent about $200 3 adults and 1 kid.dinner menu is diff then lunch. A lot of food are not available during dinner. I wouldn’t want to come back enough said.

During my 5-day stay in Vancouver, I couldn't resist visiting the lovely Japanese restaurant not once, but twice. Its authentic flavors, serene ambiance, and impeccable service left an indelible mark. A fusion of traditional and contemporary elements made it a standout experience in Vancouver's vibrant culinary scene.

Service was okay! Food came on fast and was tasty. We ordered chicken karaage, salmon pressed sushi and yellow tail pressed sushi (seasonal/special).
Very happy with chicken karaage and salmon pressed sushi. The yellow tail pressed sushi was only okay. Had to sit at bar table.

You won’t be disappointed going here. Call ahead of time and make a reservation. I highly recommend the truffle miso carbonara.

It was my first time visiting the Japanese restaurant Kingyo, the food was absolutely good, and the service was no problem. Only one thing they limited table time to just one hour, my friends and I just had a quick drink, quick eating. Everything kinda super rushes, like eating fast food.

Food was not bad but really nothing special, the wagyu was mediocre but the uni on top was pretty good. Overall not a bad experience but wouldn’t exactly recommend as it’s really quite average.

Always so good! Loved the sashimi, miso soup and corn in particular.

Only complaint is that the chairs are fairly uncomfortable.

I first came here 7 years ago and again last week, it is as good as I remember. If I lived in Vancouver I would be here all the time

It's been too long since my last visit to Kingyo. They're still popular as ever, with an hour wait time on a Tuesday at 6: 00pm. Nuts.

Pressed salmon sushi ($15.80), stone-grilled beef tongue ($12.80), sizzling stone pork kakuni bowl ($16.80), spicy Kobe beef udon ($15.80), blue fin tuna & avocado carpaccio ($16.80), grilled pork cheek ($10.80).

Everything is well executed with thoughtful, attention to detail touches. Beef tongue was delicious (grill yourself style). Pork cheek was excellent, paired perfectly with a yuzu spice blend sauce. The udon had a tasty meat sauce with a nice underlying heat to it.

The wagyu carpaccio was delicious and the atmosphere was nice.
I recommend making a reservation - we were walk-in guests and the place was very busy. We were seated near the door, which turned out to be a tad cold (winter).

Had a very nice atmosphere in the corner with a lovely window seat. Food was great, sashimi was super fresh and tempura and noodles were very flavorful. Best part was hands down the dessert, almond tofu was soft and creamy and green tea brulee had a strong green tea taste and matched perfectly with the red bean paste. The service was also amazing and the waiters were so nice. Overall an amazing night out.

I highly recommend Kingyo’s Uni Miso Udon! Creamy, rich, and flavorful. Every flavor you read on the menu, you can taste, at an excellent quality. It’s a must get.

Sashimi was very soft and superb for the price point.

The Special Menu had a Blue Fin Tuna Tataki which is an excellent starter to raw fish. Partially seared, it tasted both meaty and fishy; Yuzu citrusy and had garlic nodes.

The pressed blue fin tuna sushi was intentionally salty, intentionally fishy, soft and melts in your mouth. If you like a more fishy flavor this one was delicious!

The spicy Kobe beef udon packs a punch! The flavor is very full, with hints of garlic. The spice comes from Japanese chili oil and the Kobe beef gives a strong meaty flavor. It’s for an eclectic palate due to its intricacy and depth of flavor. I recommend it as a non-fish option.

Because this place is always busy they’re able to serve fresher fish.

Portions on the smaller side but it’s enough for a meal.

Best to call in to reserve a table.

I enjoyed this place it was very clean and the service quick. I had the "sizzling seafood bowl". The food was just a bit too salty for my taste. Will come back!

The restaurant caught our attention when we walked by the restaurant around 11: 50am - people were lining up for the restaurant to open at noon. We were lucky to get the bar seating. It’s not a huge restaurant and some tables were reserved for customers who made advanced reservations. We ordered hot green tea, Stone-Grilled Beef Tongue, Beef Tenderloin Steak Bowl, Sizzling Stone Pork Kakuni Bowl, and all of them were delicious! Great meat quality and well prepared dishes. It’s a restaurant running by Japanese with great foods and services. I highly recommend this place with advanced reservation.

We are tourist from montreal and were looking for a nice place to have dinner with the teens. So lucky we were able to find this place. Great food and great service. Only 100$ish for a family of four. We recommend the deep fry corn. Enjoy

Very bad service! Portions were small, their taste was ok, and definitely not worthy! Very expensive for such small dish!

I had eagerly anticipated coming to Kingyo for quite some time, but sadly, my experience turned out to be a major disappointment.

The first dish I ordered was the ebi shrimp, which I had hoped would be a delightful and crispy treat. However, to my dismay, the shrimp arrived at my table soggy and revolting. Confused, I called the server over and asked if it was supposed to be crispy. Instead of addressing my concern or attempting to rectify the situation, the server simply nodded and walked away without offering any explanation or apology.

Later on, when the server returned to check if everything was okay, I had intended to express my dissatisfaction. However, before I had a chance to utter a word, the server hastily ran away, leaving me feeling ignored and disrespected.

This experience left a sour taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally. The lack of professionalism displayed by the server, combined with the disappointing quality of the food, has ensured that I will not be returning to this establishment in the future.

When dining out, it's essential to have an enjoyable experience, which unfortunately was not the case at this Japanese restaurant. I had looked forward to this visit with great anticipation, only to be met with subpar food and unprofessional service. As a result, I strongly advise against wasting your time and money at this particular establishment.

Just wow! Beef Tenderloin Steak Bowl. It was an absolute delight. The medium-rare beef tenderloin steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. The combination of balsamic vinegar, wasabi, butter, and soy-based sauce added a delightful blend of flavors that complemented the steak beautifully. The addition of a soft-boiled egg on top added a creamy richness to the dish. The accompanying miso soup was delicious and served as a wonderful complement.
