Kirin Seafood Restaurant (Starlight)

This was my first time at Kirin for dimsum and probably my last. I've been to the downtown location for dinner and thought the food was tasty, so I was expecting the same for dimsum. However, I thought most of the dishes we tried lacked flavour and portions weren't the greatest for some items. We ordered dimsum staples like bbq pork bun, har gow, and siu mai. The bbq pork bun had the most flavour out of the 3. The har gow had a lot of liquid that came out of it and the siu mai didn't taste like very much. We even asked for XO sauce but I found that to just be oily and didn't add any flavour. The deep fried tofu were in larger pieces and so the tofu didn't have much flavour. Since the ratio of the coating to tofu wasn't enough. We also ordered a noodle dish with shredded pork and vegetables. There was very little pork in it and the noodles didn't taste like much other than a bit of pepper. The soy sauce rice rolls were okay but they gave the smallest amount of sauce to go with it, with a large table like ours, it was a small dab for each person.

Overall, it was a pretty dissatisfying meal for a place I had high expectations for. At the prices they charge, I would have expected more from their food. The service though was pretty good and food came out relatively fast.

Top notch Chinese food.

Came for the whole suckling pig dinner set and it was amazing.

Came here for a Chinese banquet and everything tasted amazing and perfectly made! Service was highly professional and food quality was wow. Classy Chinese food experience.

The taste is okay but the service is extremely slow! ! ! ! ! I ordered a few things in total and still missed one thing. What memory? ? ? ? ? Is this what a service person does? ? ? ?

Good atmosphere, excellent dim sum but over salty dinner dishes. The only flavour I get is salt from all the dishes. Avoid and nothing stands out from simply the traditional simple dishes. String beans hardly any minced meat, almost all preserved vegetables. The eggplants, not enough umami flavours due to lack of sweetness and acidity. The worst is the beef, not crispy and not tangerine flavour anywhere in the dish. In terms of the dim sum, very nice, good balance of flavours and freshness, but in terms of other restaurant dishes, highly not recommended.

This Qilin restaurant is much better than the Qilin restaurant in Richmond, both in terms of snacks and dinner. What I appreciate most is that its braised chicken is super authentic.

Wow, your dim sum suck. Your a la carte dinner is superb, but wowwwww your dim sum is soooo below par. Shrimp chive spring roll should be cut 45 degrees and filled with paste.but you brought me some whiteboy spring rolls instead. And your chicken feet are from underfed chickens.not plump at all. Seriously, did your dim sum chef get lost or something?

I still enjoy the spaciousness and the service which is excellent. The quality of the food has really gone downhill. We had the suckling pig dinner, the suckling pig was still excellent but the rest were just so so

The suckling pig feast is really good. All the dishes are tasty and well prepared. The only downside of this restaurant is the slow pace between each dish item. Otherwise, would have given it a 5 stars.

Really good classics with some interesting new stuff. Missing some items though. Still worth the drive. Skip the egg custard.

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the experience my fiancé, brother, and I had at your restaurant tonight. As you may recall, we had previously visited the restaurant to inquire about hosting our wedding banquet and were met with a receptive manager, Rex, who seemed to genuinely answer our questions. However, tonight's visit has left me with a completely different impression.

We had high hopes for the meal, expecting delicious food and quality service, given that both my brother and I had attended a friend's wedding at your establishment in the past. Unfortunately, the reality was far from our expectations. We ordered a lobster set menu for two and a deep-fried calamari dish, anticipating flavorsome dishes typical of sit-down Chinese restaurants.

To our dismay, the lobster and fried squid were disappointingly tasteless. The lobster was drowned in a bland batter, robbing the otherwise juicy lobster of any flavor. I was taken aback by how utterly flavorless a deep-fried dish could be, rendering the entire meal unsatisfactory.

Adding to the disappointment was the lack of attentive customer service. Throughout the evening, Rex failed to check on our table or inquire about the food's quality or if we needed anything else for our meal. This was particularly disconcerting as I had previously discussed banquet plans with him just two weeks ago, and our conversation seemed positive at that time.

Moreover, I felt that Rex lacked enthusiasm and treated me as an unimportant customer, despite my polite demeanor. As someone genuinely considering your restaurant for a significant event like a wedding banquet, I expected better treatment and attention to detail.

The dessert situation was another letdown. Despite the dessert being included with our set menu, it took an excruciatingly long 15 minutes for the desserts to arrive, and even then, they never made it to our table. It was as if our presence in the restaurant went unnoticed, despite it being far from busy by that point.

When I mentioned the delayed desserts to Rex, he blatantly ignored me and looked away from me toward the empty restaurant. His lack of response and dismissive attitude were baffling and utterly unprofessional. Rex proceeded to hand the payment machine to my brother without saying one word. This treatment only compounded the frustration we were already experiencing. Needless to say, we did not tip one cent onto the whopping $170 dinner because of this final cherry on top of an experience.

I want to clarify that I approached this visit with the utmost respect and courtesy, even trying to communicate in Cantonese, despite my limitations. Prejudice or any form of unfair treatment towards customers should never be acceptable, and I believe I conducted myself reasonably throughout the evening.

Overall, my family and I were thoroughly disappointed with both the quality of the food and the level of service we received. This experience has left me with no desire to ever dine at your restaurant again, and I sincerely hope that this feedback reaches the management to prevent other customers from facing similar treatment.

I do recognize that the restaurant's atmosphere was relatively pleasant, although the lighting could be improved. I have rated the atmosphere neutrally at 3 stars for cleanliness and ambiance, despite my personal preference for brighter lighting.

I hope that this review is read by management and taken seriously. I hope that no other customers receive the poor treatment we received. As someone who genuinely wanted to consider your establishment for a special occasion, I am disheartened by the way the evening unfolded.

We will be choosing another establishment to host our banquet.

Heard good reviews about this place from other family members so I came in with high expectations.

Upon arrival the waitress asked us if we had a reservation and seemed frazzled over the fact that we didn't have one. I mean it wasn't a big deal if there wasn't any space as we would've gladly ate next door as well, however once we did get seated we were then disappointed by the service and food.

The food took a long time to arrive. Flavor extremely inconsistent; some meals had enough flavor meanwhile the majority of our meals were tasteless and bland. For the price we were paying, we were extremely disappointed by the quality and taste of the food. Not sure if it was an off day, or a new chef, but otherwise service and taste were very lackluster.

Servers were unapologetic and seemed to want to rush us out. Overall not a good experience and will not return. Again, i'm hoping this was an off day because this really should not be the standard for a Chinese restaurant that is considered "higher end".

Today, My friends came over from Calgary, and in the evening, we went to a restaurant next to the Starlight Casino for dinner. The service was extremely slow, with each dish taking more than ten minutes to be served. When they brought a dish of sautéed shrimp with yam and fungus, I ate more than half of the shrimp but felt that something was off - it had a fishy and unpleasant smell. Shortly after, I experienced stomach discomfort and began to vomit. Surprisingly, no waiter came to check if I needed any assistance. When I went to the restroom to vomit, the manager immediately took the dish away, seemingly trying to cover up the issue. He then told us that they had tested the dish and found nothing wrong, implying that the problem was with me, without offering a sincere apology or any compensation. My friends and I regret not stopping them from taking the dish away. Throughout the whole experience, it felt like the restaurant was taking advantage of us, and we don't understand where they get the confidence to serve such questionable food. Is this kind of service considered deceitful to customers? Especially the manager in the grey attire had an extremely unfriendly attitude.

Had the whole roast pig dinner. Food quality is good. Service is the part I really like, very attentive.

Had a good dim sum experience with a friend. Service was amazing. Food was good. Nice atmosphere. Reservations are recommended.

It's sad to say this Kirin has gone completely downhill over the years as I used to frequent for both lunch and dinner. The food was just disappointing, we ordered a ricenoodle with bbq duck, the noodles were completely overcooked. The fried specialty dishes lacked favor. Unfortunately I will not be returning for a long time

No one answer the phone, after many tries, i put on hold forever, Kirin cannot afford to hire sraffs? Rediculous

Totally horrible services, reservations no use in this restaurant they will cancel your booking without any reason Or they said receptionist forget to write down. No apologies at all!

Nice food but the service is not as good as other restaurants. Was booked two table with friends. I go to another table to chat with friends, the waiter came with poker face and said: hey, back to your table. I feel pretty uncomfortable even he might be joking.

No complaints at all about the flavor of the food nor the service level of our server, however, dishes were served rather slow and the portion sizes were embarrassingly tiny

The food is delicious, the service is very good, the change of plates is fast, the soup and desserts are well served, and the crab and lobster are also helpful. The only drawback may be that it is very urgent to collect the plates, and they come two or three times in a short time. A waiter asked if the food still needs to be eaten (to be taken away). To be honest, it only took 30-45 minutes to sit in the store. It is fast to serve 10 dishes, but our eating speed is not slow, so we keep asking if If you want to take it away, it feels like you are rushing customers. (If you talk about the table turnover rate.there are still many empty tables next to it, so you don't need to do this) (or it is close to closing time, and there are none, after all, you have to eat the next meal There are also customers who just came in) So, they just said one word, fast and accurate, fast, but some services are a little rushed.

Unexpectedly delicious, the price is not that expensive, we have 8 ppl in total for dinner, we ordered 10 dishes, it's just ~40 per person. Usually we don't go for the special menu because it's more expensive than ordering own it's own.
